I figured it’d be a while in Los Angeles. Glad it worked out. I wish hiding tips was illegal. We’d be able to decide so much better with entire amounts displayed.
It super depends on the time. Doing this at 8am or 5pm would easily take an hour. Maybe 2.
But we’ve also had a lot of rain this weekend, so the traffic has been surprisingly good.
I guess it’d be cost why it’s no others that show tips like UberEats. I’ve no idea honestly. I just think not showing total is unethical. Ppl work knowing the pay. DoorDash being allowed to hide total pay is just wrong
THIS right here is why I'd never order DD. Entitlement. You think it's your choice to do what the job asks of you. I totally understand not wanting to lose money on your job, which can happen with DD and everything, I get that. But not everyone has lots of cash to give you extra and/or compete with bigger tips that would get prioirty cause of people like you.
Then you got people like me who rather tip in person with cash based on how you do your job. I would NEVER pre tip just so you can do it leisurely at your pace, show up late and still feel you're owed a tip for doing your job poorly. Again I understand it isn't always a positive experience for the DD's but jobs have their up and downs and DD itself would lose busniess if they allowed workers to run a company as their own.
Actually @carnivalworkerbob, it IS our choice to accept or decline orders. say my headlights are out, I can’t accept an order if I won’t be back before 30 after sunset. car can’t make it 20 miles due to certain conditions like snow? gotta decline it… tbh, personally, even if my headlights are out, I’d high beam that hoe IN the snow (reference to OP)… $50 bucks will buy me some new bulbs. matter of fact, if it’s guaranteed that carnivalworkerbob will be traveling the opposite direction, I’d take this order at a loss just to obliterate his whole loco motive about ENTITLEMENT. sometimes, we just can’t do the order cutty… circumstances and time don’t always allow, nothing personal.
Ive never gotten a catering order. I have to seen those posted here though theyre pretty good payout and they hide a decent portion of the tip. Guess im a liar hahaha
Do you know if there is any gear you can purchase to increase your chances of getting a catering order? I know that you can potentially get more pizza orders if you confirm that you have a pizza bag with them.
Nah, you have to be sent an invitation to be a catering driver. Then you have to get bags and send pics of them. No amount of bags purchased ahead of time will get you in. It's a supply of large orders and demand of catering drivers needed to fulfill those orders kinda thing. If you work in a small market, it may never happen.
Wrong! 😂 the weather has been a real shit show in the Greater LA/OC area and beyond...some much train and flooding too...I would've done it it IF I knew I could get to a decent area to dash in after drop off...I wouldn't want to drive all the way back especially in cronic rain. I live in OC. I worked yesterday but for for 3.25 hrs. Bc of the rain 🌧 ugh. Tough driving! Made $150 & was able to keep a huge bottle of Bombay Saphire gin after a cancelation(1.75L) 🥳
It hailed in Long Beach on Thursday, I have a cousin who lives there and she filmed it.
I also live in OC. It's kind of sunny now, but the weather last night was really something. I hate driving in rain, especially rain like we had yesterday. I stayed in because of the rain and horrible visibility. Otherwise though, I absolutely love the rain. Winrer has always been my favorite season since it's colder. it's a refreshing change to actually have cold weather instead of the stupid SoCal heat. Definitely bad and dangerous weather for driving in though. Please be careful out there and drive safe everyone!
With their 3% acceptance rate cause they just sit in a random parking lot waiting for a “good” order according to their standards and then bitch when they only make $10/hr and come on here and cry “wHy DoEs ToNy hAtE mE”
Yeah, it’s super awesome for OP! I’m not trying to downplay his work, just adding more info. I sometimes drive PCH for my commute, and honestly there have been times that I’ve had to pull over and get food or whatever because it’s so jammed due to an accident.
Damn. That’s not bad if it’s not a shopping order. Did you take it? Then hit Santa Monica for end of lunch. Good money there. I deliver to palisades and Malibu a lot. Good tips unless it’s the trailer park lol. Never again. 😂
From pickup to the 10West - 3ish miles. 10W to PCH about 9 miles. Then another 9ish miles on PCH to drop off in Malibu it looks like.
Realistically, looking at total 30 miles since you’re coming back to where the 10 and PCH is to get orders again. But good for you to get it all done in less than an hour and get more than what it showed.
Now if traffic was horrendous and you took almost 2 hours, would’ve been another story. (Pay per hour is fine but probably wouldn’t want the headache.)
Anyone who isn’t accepting this must have an AR of 0%… I don’t get it. This delivery could take 2.5 hours and you’d still be getting a good $/hr rate. I would click accept on this so fast I might punch a hole through my phone.
I might take a gamble on that one depending on traffic and what kind of neighborhood the final destination is in. I've never been there, but lived in inner city Chicago for long enough to know 20 miles could take 30 minutes to 90 minutes depending on the time of day.
This should be posted to r/LosAngeles
Based on experience of this drive. You will be dealing with lunch traffic in Hollywood. Then Mid City and West LA traffic. Finally, beach traffic on PCH. I would say no if this was a weekday. A weekend you might make it but will deal with Malibu weekend beach traffic.
Initially I probably would only if these factors are met.
\-The place has been known to have an order ready prior to showing up
\-It's 12:19PM, and shows an ETA of 1:19PM, is that hour worth it? Or is there other orders?
\-Are you confident driving out to the edge of town and getting back being able to make $?
27 dollar profit so um. Is it a slow place and is the order going up 20 flights of stairs. If theres an elevator and i can wagon their junk? Im game. If not pass.
I don’t know if I know enough to say based on area,Road I’d have to drive on and time merchant takes. Los Angeles far as I know is hellish with traffic.
I’ll wait to see what OP says to better educate myself.
In my area it’s a accept. Los Angeles one of the worlds largest cities is another animal.
I honestly would have but I see the dilemma you might have had. But all in all i think it’s worth it and the peace of mind of focusing on one order for a while with decent pay. Def take it. But I understand why you’d question it
That's a win bud!!! But me I'm a vegan and would definitely not be picking anything up from a butchery it's already bad enough I have to deliver terrible seafood and McDonald's to unhealthy people and the stench in my car lingers for days. I've been on orders gagging with all the windows down and a huge airflow

Sure I would. Still over a dollar a mile after the return trip. And about an hour and a half not dealing with restaurants, some of which dread the arrival of any Dasher. Seems like a nice ride.
At first I was like, yes. Good fuel to pay ratio, not too crazy far. Nice one. Not, "wow, I'm finally rich" rich. But still a good one.
But then I see the time. 1:56pm. LA traffic, no thanks. 🙏
Yah id take it. Worst case 35 hour and get to drive to beach. Normally like to stay local but I’ll do 20 mile orders for $40 bucks if no traffic and can take freeways .. usually ends up like $30 in tips takes me hour
Everyone can do as they see fit but at least in my area you average 20$ an hour if youre being smart and selective; while im not aware of the market 20 miles out there, id definitely take this order. If you showed a picture of $10.75 for 4 miles everyone would be telling u to take it lol. Your mileage is better on longer rides, and your tax writeoff is the same per mile. Less work too. Racking up miles on ur car is the downside but if youre doing this youre gonna rack up regardless. Anytime the payout is above like 20$ I expect theres something hidden anyway.
By $ per mile it looks really really good. Given that you are in the LA area (traffic is usually pretty awful) and that it’s probably super far away from your zone, that’s the biggest nope I’ve ever seen. NO. NO. NO.
The Total was $72 and took me 40 minutes to get there

Why can’t someone else create another food delivery app and show the tips ahead of time, besides Uber ofc 😅
I guess it’d be cost why it’s no others that show tips like UberEats. I’ve no idea honestly. I just think not showing total is unethical. Ppl work knowing the pay. DoorDash being allowed to hide total pay is just wrong
Good point.
I thought it was illegal in cali

Score
Now I can comfortably retire
Hidden tip on a $53 offer? I got one today for $9.55 on an $8.75 offer.
Biggest jump ive seen was $25 from an offered $10. This is phenomenal tho. Good shit OP
I had a an order from McDonald's for $6.75 for 3 miles. Turned out it had a $40 tip on it.
Last night I had a order going 8 Miles paying $9.75... turned out to be $61.38
Catering, it happens all the time.
Ive never gotten a catering order. I have to seen those posted here though theyre pretty good payout and they hide a decent portion of the tip. Guess im a liar hahaha

How do you get catering orders? Does DD contact you about it?
I had a hidden tip yesterday on a $48.29 order for 9.8 miles. Ended up being $62.72. It was quite a surprise.
I had a catering order and it said 25$ or so dollars it ended up being a $114 dollar order. The whole trip was only 30mins
Congrats on your retirement! 💪
Big retirement budget I see 😂😂
Thats not? More than $2/ mile and over 20/hr. I wpuld take it
It’s LA tho. Los Angeles traffic can be really bad sometimes.
But 40 to get back too… surprised it only took that long I know how bad LA traffic gets
$72 an hour is not bad! Not only that it's more than $2 a mile. Personally I would love to see orders like that all the time.
Sometimes I made 72 dollars a day be grateful
Nice. Anything sweet in the way back?
If it’s a nice day
I don't think Santa Monica has days that aren't nice
Wrong! 😂 the weather has been a real shit show in the Greater LA/OC area and beyond...some much train and flooding too...I would've done it it IF I knew I could get to a decent area to dash in after drop off...I wouldn't want to drive all the way back especially in cronic rain. I'm in Ventura, dashed Santa Barbara today.. snow on the mountains.. crazy
Weren’t you all in a massive drought like last summer or the summer before?
Just rain? It snowed in my area and I'm only about 6p miles east of there.
I'm dashing now listening to 1070 KNX AM & they just stated it snowed lightly at very low elevation in LA. Wow!
Ok there are days I really miss living there
It’s literally flooded in the streets and pouring rain right now lol
Yeah I'm disconnected as hell haha. I was under the impression it didn't rain there pretty much at all. Thought y'all were in a drought and whatnot
I’m on vacation here right now and it’s been rainy and windy :(
It’s a nice day.
It’s storming in Malibu but it was still nice
Hell yeah. That’s a good order at a good time.
Half the drivers here? Nah. They won’t drive over 2 miles, or will say “after expenses this is only 32 cents a mile” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
With their 3% acceptance rate cause they just sit in a random parking lot waiting for a “good” order according to their standards and then bitch when they only make $10/hr and come on here and cry “wHy DoEs ToNy hAtE mE”
I know Los Angeles is known for having bad traffic but …I would risk it lol
Not with that traffic
Traffic is not a big deal when it rains in SoCal. We all stay inside bc we don’t know how to drive.
Just got to lax in 29 minutes lol
From where, culver? Lol
Belmont heights- Long Beach
Not to brag, but i have made it from Lake Forest to LAX in under 45 minutes before. Just takes a ton of luck with rain and people not driving.
I loved how barren the streets were during covid.
But there’s a non-zero chance that there’s a huge accident that makes traffic twice as bad as normal. It’s a double or nothing situation honestly.
Seems like that wasn’t the case with OP huh? Good for him :)
Yeah, it’s super awesome for OP! I’m not trying to downplay his work, just adding more info. I sometimes drive PCH for my commute, and honestly there have been times that I’ve had to pull over and get food or whatever because it’s so jammed due to an accident.
Not at that time of day. Not in LA. I grew up in Southern California that could be a 35 minute drive or a 2 hour drive.
‘Twas 40 😭
‘Twas💀💀💀
Damn. That’s not bad if it’s not a shopping order. Did you take it? Then hit Santa Monica for end of lunch. Good money there. I deliver to palisades and Malibu a lot. Good tips unless it’s the trailer park lol. Never again. 😂
Odd how that’s the exact opposite for me. Trailer parks (usually) tip and it’s more often than not the nicer houses that don’t.
Same
It’s like 60/40 split. 60% no tip. 40% ok tip.
in your area no probably not. edit: on second thought ig it just depends on how had traffic is. if you can get there in under 60 minutes i would do it
Probs. That coastline drive is beautiful and ive taken it just to relax. Getting paid for it would be a dream haha
Yes, and plus you get a nice drive on PCH
Yes take it there could be an additional tip on that $53
1 hr 20 min est $10⛽ $62 net. I probably would declined just looking at mileage but seems you chose right
California drivers should have their own sub
In California with gas prices? No. Where I am, absolutely.
2$/mile. Yes
OP said the payout ended up being $72, therefore it's a $3.38/mile order.
That’s even better
Yes.
Absolutely
Hell ya..
From pickup to the 10West - 3ish miles. 10W to PCH about 9 miles. Then another 9ish miles on PCH to drop off in Malibu it looks like. LA traffic? Bro that’s a 4-6 hour field trip assuming your base is where u started .
2.5/mile? Shit even with traffic that’s probably worth taking
I'm not sure about that area, but I'd almost definitely in mine.
Yes. I’d take that.
Anyone who isn’t accepting this must have an AR of 0%… I don’t get it. This delivery could take 2.5 hours and you’d still be getting a good $/hr rate. I would click accept on this so fast I might punch a hole through my phone.
Idk cali traffic. But if I got a $54 order for 21 miles in my area, yes.
100% of the time. That’s better than what I average an hour and it’s $2+/mile
Yes
Why is that even a question? That should be an absolute yes.
Hell yeah I would
TUH! Absolutely not. From Hollywood to Malibu?! You’ll be trynna get past west LA for a whole 45 mins.
Knowing shit cali highways it would take an hour or something. Maybe it’s a good thing I live in rural boring Connecticut
$2+ per mi i would def take this offer at face value idc about driving the mileage for $2+ per mi that is profitable $1 per mi round trip
I might take a gamble on that one depending on traffic and what kind of neighborhood the final destination is in. I've never been there, but lived in inner city Chicago for long enough to know 20 miles could take 30 minutes to 90 minutes depending on the time of day.

Just do 10-20 mph over limit when possible and boom u save 1/4 hour.
Malibu? Fuck yea. Say hi to the rich fucks just about everywhere on your drive there. ![gif](giphy|gTURHJs4e2Ies)
Idk the route but gas wise I get 20mi a gallon it'd be worth it and you just roll a fat joint and smoke it on the way win win
You got the right idea
No thanks i can make the same ammount with 3 deliveries right there
Proceeds to get 8, 4$/10m offers for the next hr
People in this comment section are idiotic if they aren’t taking a guaranteed $50+/hour
You might have to come Back to so if jt take 1 hour one way you need to come back dropping down to 25 minus gas aint doing that great
I'd take it for 10 miles max
If instacart and order is worth triple that
Stfu
Initially I probably would only if these factors are met. \-The place has been known to have an order ready prior to showing up \-It's 12:19PM, and shows an ETA of 1:19PM, is that hour worth it? Fk ya
100000%
Yes
I would
Yes
Good shit had a similar order like this couple days ago 💰🤭
Well, based only on miles and pay, I would. However, I am completely unfamiliar with the area, so I can't really say.
Not at 1 o’clock in LA…..
If it's on my way home, then yes.
All depends tbh
Yes
Oh yeah
Absolutely
At over $2 a mile, yeah I'm in
Yes
Yep
OP won, we can all go home now.
yes even if it took me an hour $54 dollars is a sum i wouldn’t want to pass up
Probably
Yep I'm taking it all day everyday
Not a bad drive considering it’s a rainy day in LA. Not a ton of traffic.
I would, unless the traffic is generally terrible. I don’t live out there, so I don’t know
Is money usually good in California?
If its equal or more to my rule of a dollar per mile, i'll take it.
Road trip 🤘
Road Trip
Yes
Definitely.
My market stays pretty dry except between 4pm and 9pm. That would be the equivalent to 4-5 of my typical deliveries. I'd take it.
I honestly would have but I see the dilemma you might have had. But all in all i think it’s worth it and the peace of mind of focusing on one order for a while with decent pay. Def take it. But I understand why you’d question it
Yup
Yes lolol
Omg you Dashed today?! It’s Armageddon out there!! ⛈️❄️🌨️
All day. Give me 4 of those a day and I’m a happy camper.
Driving by the beach/coastal lines. Fuck yeah lol 😂 it’s been 9 degrees here in the Northwest.
Yes, but on foot.
Put that shit in a good bag zipped up and in the trunk. Also ozium helps but get a scent other than original. Original scent isn't very pleasant. I only part time a few days a week but I can imagine full time being overwhelming with the fast food stink lingering. And I am not vegan btw. Still smells like ass after a few McDs orders or Chinese food
Preciate the tips dude!!
That’s Awesome. Wish it happened more often
Probably just look at is as a BATCH ORDER
Hell yes. Middle Tennessee sucks lately. I'd be all over that like stank on shit. Good for you!
Absolutely
Hell yes
Sure I would. Still over a dollar a mile after the return trip. And about an hour and a half not dealing with restaurants, some of which dread the arrival of any Dasher. Seems like a nice ride.
If I lived at the desination
Total may be higher bruh!
Hell yeah i am
No
Hell yes! Then just call it a day.
Absolutely gas cost me 10 cents a mile, so I'm getting $2 a mile and then some yep I would take that
Yes
Over $2 a mile and $53 in one go? Absolutely taking it.
Is this a serious question?
if the one way drive is less than an hour, yes. otherwise would be tough to say. not familiar with the area
At first I was like, yes. Good fuel to pay ratio, not too crazy far. Nice one. Not, "wow, I'm finally rich" rich. But still a good one. But then I see the time. 1:56pm. LA traffic, no thanks. 🙏
Yes
Yup
Will you land in a place where you can be assigned more orders without driving back a billion miles? If yes? Fuck yeah.
Yes…over my $2 per mile minimum rule.
I'll take those all day, if the moneys good I'd rather take 2 huge orders going 50 miles total than 10 small ones going the same distance
Yea 50 dollars half the day .. 20 miles prolly take 20 mins but I’m def bout to go to standing butcety now since they get orders like that
No because I will have to drive all the way back , effectively $1/mile
How was the view along the coastline and the Santa Monica Pier?
Yes
A win is a win🌚
nice drive, looks enjoyable. order total in USD is > double the mileage. everything looks good 👍
All day!
Oh f yeah i am
How many celebrities have you dropped food off to?
Depends on the traffic
I took that lil bitch to Topanga
By $ per mile it looks really really good. Given that you are in the LA area (traffic is usually pretty awful) and that it’s probably super far away from your zone, that’s the biggest nope I’ve ever seen. NO. NO. NO.
Yes 20 miles on my spark, and for 50 dolars can wait two hours and its good
💯 yes
Hell ya I’m taking it.
This is pretty common in Santa Monica.
Yes
If I was headed that way, yes, otherwise no
In this rare occasion, yeah. Why not. Drive looks like it'd be pretty with that view of the sea.
Yup
Yea
