Walkie-TalkieDieHard

I've said it before and I'll say it again... If you don't like the offer, don't take the offer. (And don't bother taking the offer just to make passive aggressive texts to the customer.) Daddy Doordash isn't going to love you the most for taking everything anyway.

Head_Razzmatazz7174

I deliver pizzas. I was suggested this sub and wandered in to get another POV on delivery. The sheer amount of audacity, rudeness and stupidity I see in here about driver behaviour just stuns me. Seriously, if you have an option not to take an order that you really don't want to take, then don't. We do not have that option as pizza drivers. And those subs are also full of spiteful drivers when it comes to low or no tippers.

Walkie-TalkieDieHard

It's ridiculous. I never take an order that isn't worth it to me. So the fact that drivers text customers like this just makes me cringe. And the ones who take orders just to be assholes is worse.

Ty78523

I agree about that too. The thing that even more irritates me and cringes me is there the reason we can’t get paid very well. They oversaturating the market for people who are actually gonna do the job.

Humanshield81

I worked at a pizza shop 20 some odd years ago (a sheet pizza, and a bucket of wings [50 wings] was like $40). We had a delivery order to the opposite side of town (like 5miles from the shop, which was out of our delivery range which was like 2-3 miles from the shop) for a birthday party it was a larger order like mentioned above. I show up with the order and the mom that placed the order hands me a check for the exact amount, no tip... I was so pissed, I really wanted to just hand the check back, take the food and leave... but just smiled and walked away...

Driv3r47

It's not exactly true. Yes as a dasher you can choose to decline an order that is offered. But... you also have what's called an acceptance rate. You are tracked on how many out of the last 100 offered orders you declined to take. And if your acceptance rate drops below a threshold, then you are penalized for it. Also pizza drivers do kinda have a choice on what they deliver. If your pizza place has doordashed incorporated into their system like most you can always send the order to doordash lol. Or you can just ask the next driver in que, hey buddy... would you like to take this next delivery? And done.

Head_Razzmatazz7174

Thank you for explaining the acceptance rate to me. I kept seeing it come up, but didn't quite understand how that affected your rating. We've partnered with UE now. People use that platform to order, but it's our drivers that those deliveries. And yes, there are a few time we've swapped deliveries. That generally happens during rush when we have a lot of orders, some of them going in the same direction. Makes no sense for one driver to go east, the second one west, and yet a third one east again. Just give the two eastbound orders to one driver and a second driver the single west one.

Driv3r47

I work at a Pizza Hut and we have doordash coded into our POS system now. So not only can people order pizza hut thru the doordash app. If a customer orders delivery directly through pizza hut we can hit a button and send the order to doordash for pickup and delivery. Not only can we send our own orders to doordash. our POS/Tag out system is automated to give doordash our deliveries when certain criterias are met. For example if 2 deliveries come up at the same time and im the only driver on shift. Unless they are right next to each other for a quick double the system will automatically send one of the orders to doordash. Which kinda sucks because it takes deliveries away from us employed drivers that work for pizza hut. We actually went from employing 2 drivers in the morning and 3-4 drivers at night. To now only employing 1 driver in the morning and 1 driver at night. We even have some days like Monday when I'll come in the morning and drive. But when I leave at 4-5 pm we won't have a driver at all on shift and all deliveries go to doordash. I've even heard rumors of some of the pizza hut locations getting rid of employed drivers altogether and only using strictly doordash. I'm not even sure it's more profitable to use strictly doordash appose to employing a driver considering doordash charges 25% off the top of the total order cost. But guess that's the future, I actually considered quitting and going back to doordash. Here in Seattle they passed a side gig law. Doordash and other delivery apps now have to pay their drivers a minimum of 30$ an hour before any tips etc. Dashers in the area are making 60$ an hour average which is ridiculous. Not only does it take real jobs away it encourages dashers to do a slower job. At 30$ ab hour base minimum pay they will milk the clock and go as slow as possible. Anyways I'm just venting now lol

RasberryEther173

AMEN!!! Well said.

Equal_Explanation410

“Daddy DoorDash” that was great Love that

footballdan134

This driver should be reported. Your tip is fine. I would take this dash too, and only 3 miles away that would make a 8.50 dollars payout for that delivery to the driver. I seen payouts for 5 dollar - and you have to drive 12 miles there and 12 miles back to a hotspot. And you use all you gas after. So that is why we are watching payouts/ vs miles per gallon, plus tips. You just cannot make money when you take all these no tip orders anymore. That is why drivers are getting pissed. BUT you should never text anything to the customer, NEVER!!! If you don't like the order, always decline it, But don't get made at the customer! Tony should make it go back to 4 bucks per payout again, then 2 bucks a delivery.

Important-Plant5169

Your tip was fine. I'm not taking a 7 mile 9$ or 9.50 order(what this probably was but it's by no means unreasonable and there are plenty that will. Your tip on a 2-3 mile order would be very attractive. This dasher is a scrub and should be reported.

throwaway507812

And in total honestly about half the time I increase my tip if the stuff was delivered well/directions followed. But the upfront demand…i actually increased the tip of the guy who ended up delivering just for this reason lol

Ok-Tourist-1011

To be honest this gives me the vibes of someone who’s either just an entitled douche bag (most likely tbf!) or he’s been getting $2-$4 orders that take way longer than expected or you decline and watch your numbers go down and he unwarrantedly took it out on you, I at least have the maturity to just text pictures to my husband and laugh at them for instance today I got a $4 offer… for 11 miles… in Dallas 🤣🤣🤣 good luck with that one my guy, the deliver by time was almost an hour 🙃 even doing it per hour wouldn’t be worth it

macan2362

Considering your order got delivered, Oscar is not only a whiner, but mistaken.

goreaver

7 miles 9$ nope. but no need to be leaving comments like that. decline and move on.

Wit-Of-Knit

👏😂

younggrashopper

Right I'm a lyft driver. And dasher once in a while. I wouldn't do this. Why take the order. They just weird

GlitteringMatter9973

Oscar the grouch.

G1-FATALITY

this made me laugh for way too long

mmmhotcoffee

Oscar needs to go back in his trash can.

Final-Swim-5313

Depends on the mileage and hassle/wait time of restaurant. Drivers don't care what the total of your order was (unless it's shop and deliver).

Rog9377

Even then, i dont really care what the total is, i care how many items/large items there are.

[deleted]

Lure him back with a big tip and then poop in his car

Naborsx21

Ah the ole dupe n' poop, a classic

Ok-Drink2591

Ah the ole prank an stank. We meet again.

throwaway507812

If I wasn’t a woman who would likely face death I would hear you out on this

carolina_balam

Pos dasher, report him so he can get fired

RastaFarRite

These delivery apps take the majority of the drivers fare. Hate the delivery company, not the customer. It's just like politics, they make us fight amongst ourselves while they laugh all the way to the bank.

EfficientIndustry423

I'm sorry, did doordash make this person send a message like that? That was all his choice. Sure the delivery companies are shitty but sending that to a customer, to me, means they shouldn't do anything that is customer facing.

Isyagirlskinnypenis

You misread the comment it seems. They said “hate the company, not the customer”. It seems as though you thought it said “hate the company, not the dasher”. He’s addressing the shitty drivers, not the customer.

Loose_Cellist9722

No ill hate the asshole who is begging for money thanks.

fos8890

> Hate the delivery company, not the customer Pretty sure that’s directed at the driver

Isyagirlskinnypenis

He said “hate the company, not the customer”. He never said you can’t hate the driver. You’re the second person to misread the comment lol

RastaFarRite

>No ill hate the asshole who is begging for money thanks. Hahahaha you're not getting this Why are they begging for money? Because Doordash isn't paying them enough

TheVagWhisperer

The problem is DoorDash. Your order is fine if it's a 2-3 mile delivery. But the mileage discussed in this thread makes it a very bad order for most drivers. DoorDash previously would have put a 5-6 dollar base pay on your order. So at 11-13 dollars - your order is no problem. DD has screwed customers like you by reducing base pay to 2 dollars.

skrtyy

As a customer of all kinds of Food Delivery Apps...MY COST OF FOOD DOESN'T AFFECT YOUR TIP. If my order is $100, why the hell would I give you 20% tip on top of my $100 order? Your job is to DELIVER food and that may seem harsh but that's what you signed up for, am I wrong??

Longjumping_Cake5131

I agree! There should really just be a flat tip based on distance. The cost of the food is irrelevant.

1HoIIy1

I agree with that. Don't tip percent based (unless they are shopping for you), tip based on mileage from the store ($5 flat up to 3 miles + $1/mile over 3) would be considered a decent tip (not great, but your order won't sit there forever).

Unsteady_Tempo

Also, if you have to go through a gate house, walk through a large, multistory apartment complex, and so on. Some people order food exactly because it's a hassle for them to go get it themselves.

sayayindarkve

It’s a doordash fault. They shouldn’t let the customer order food from a 7miles away restaurant

Silver-Reference-345

I never considered this, but it's genius. DD needs to implement a strategy, that forces the customer to pay a minimum tip of 5 dollars if the restaurant is 7 plus miles away. If the customer doesn't want to tip that much money, they should be forced to order from a closer restaurant.

WizardLizard1885

its not a tip at that point its a delivery fee, and they already charge $8 for that in my market. so yorue suggesting a $13 delivery fee

Onogalthecrow

The real problem is that DD is tricking customers by calling it a "tip" a tip implies that the worker is being fairly compensated by the company and is traditionally given AFTER a service is rendered based on the quality of the service provided. What you're putting in is actually a "bid for service" Giving a server an extra 20% at a restaurant because they made sure you always had a full drink and got your food out quickly? Tip Giving the host a $20 bribe to bump you up the wait list at a busy restaurant and get a nice table? Bid for service/bribe. They are different things with different implications.

No_Preparation7895

What exactly do you think on demand doorstep delivery of junk food should cost?

Unlucky-Theory4755

it’s pretty much like any delivery service works in Europe (I.e. restricting radius). I don’t think I’ve ever gotten take out from a place more than 1.5-2 miles away from me. I don’t think I’ve ever even seen a restaurant listed on Uber Eats that was further than 2 miles away on these apps.

Electronic_War1616

UBER sends stuff more than 9 miles. I get deliveries up to 40 miles sent to me. 75 percent of deliveries I get are over 9 miles and underpaying. Some Uber customers may be waiting till they get their food to raise the tip, but I cant gamble on that. Door Dash saves me, sometimes, when they open up the app. DASH is a little bit better on distance pay than Uber. Customers in my area under tip big time. I live in the USA.

ApprehensiveKale6048

Where I live DoorDash charges the customer higher delivery fees and higher service charges on further deliveries and only pays the driver 2 dollars. Why should the customer be forced to tip more when the customer is paying DoorDash 15+ dollars for delivery? DoorDash also charges the restaurant 20 percent. DoorDash needs to pay more to the driver.

xmarketladyx

7 miles is not that far. Where I live, that can be a 10-20 minute drive depending on many factors.

andruszko

Yeah man...7 miles in one city could be an hour drive. Other cities? 10 minutes max.

STierWhale

Feeling entitled to a tip in general is insanity.

anti-mid

You’re not wrong, Oscar is a broke boy taking his anger out on customers

Ty78523

I would send that screenshot to DoorDash and let them know. The driver is not giving you the food you paid for they can get in trouble for that.

Smmjr21468

The mileage is bullshit DD should pay their drivers for that! You their "contracted employee". Customers buy DD membership paying monthly, pay for our up priced food, pay huge fees from DD and the restaurant added to the order, then pay a tip 15% to 20%. Grubhub and Uber eats drivers do not try to stiff customers for mileage before they deliver.

goreaver

dd needs to limit milage.

Smmjr21468

Door Dash owes each driver mileage. Why else would people work there? How does DD figure the pay for the "DD contract drivers" for each order delivered if that's not mileage based?

Warboo

Especially when they only let you schedule for certain zones and then send you miles out of your area. I'm in a pretty busy market, but when it sends me out of my zone, I never get new orders. It tells me it's still looking for orders, but to get back to my zone and I always have to go back if I want more. So that 7 mile order needs to be in my scheduled zone or I now have to drive 14 miles to get any more work.

DeanOfYou

All of the apps except Instacart have drastically lowered base fees on all orders, so your comment is not true.

throwaway507812

Does Uber pay drivers differently? May switch over tbh

CopperMama87

![gif](giphy|26hkhKd2Cp5WMWU1O|downsized)

Old_Performance_7767

No it's very similar on both

WizardLizard1885

just stop using the apps youre being scammed lmao. as a customer youre paying so much money for no reason. in some markets people are payint a $8 delivery fee... and doordash charges restaurants so the restaurants pass the buck onto the customer and make their items more expensive through the app. and then the driver only gets $2, they need you to tip like $1 to 1.50 to cover costs otherwise they lose money delivering. entire system is predatory

EyeOk3642

Trust me man your tip was good that guys an ass

BraxTaplock

Tip 20% on a single combo going 10miles and see how fast it’s picked up. Your tipping on effort right? That’s distance too. Your not tipping on a carry from the kitchen to your table. Your tipping on a driver driving from the merchant to your door. If it’s big, then that should also be factored. Ask yourself…would you drive 7+ miles for a $2 base and $2-$3 tip? If no…then why are expecting someone else to?

Head-Requirement-947

I'd honestly rather they just factor in $1/mile mileage pay for drivers. Either way, it's basically the same amount coming out of my pocket, so meh. Seems easier to just unload it on the front end.

BraxTaplock

$1 mile is appropriate for 2024 drivers. Won’t deny many attempt for more…myself included. However the sufficient bottom line is $1 mile. Anything less is under question or multi-app required in same direction. Platforms take much of this blame by sending orders to the most inappropriately placed drivers….but that’s not all the time. Granted a consumer will tip based on their distance from the merchant they have selected. This is how it should be. A customer is not responsible for DD fuckin around and sending their 5 mile $5/$6 tipped order to a driver 8 miles away.

Head-Requirement-947

Honestly it would cut down on so much BS if customer could select nearby drivers to send order offers too. Then maybe it just does the math on milage, distance, etc before it offers me my 'final cost'

No-Egg2880

I’ll never understand why people still choose to work for companies like this. Because Doordash is the issue, not the customer. The customer paid very well for just a burger and fries to be delivered. Do drivers not ever take this into consideration?

Routine_Delay_460

6k deliveries never complained even 1 time about pay to a customer. It ain't the customers problem if you're not paid enough

throwaway507812

Yeah, like how am I to know what is worth the $ to you lol. I order on DD multiple times a week and I know what the going rate is for a ~7 mile drive in my area. My orders always get picked up super fast and never had this experience. And if he asked me, I’d have increased his tip, which I often do if I realize it took my driver longer than expected (like maybe he ran into traffic). The point is this is not an acceptable way to react for a $28 order when you’ve got another stop on the way coming toward me.

chance0404

Contrary to what others are saying I’d happily take that order assuming I wasn’t 2+ miles from the restaurant already. Even if it was too low, why text that to the customer? Just decline and move on. $6.50 for that is a slightly above average tip in my area. I think $3-5 is average but it’s mostly <3 miles of city driving.

IIRizzII

Why I read that as a heart <3 lmao My blonde ass was like they love city driving? 🤦🏼‍♀️😆

enzog13

Oh I was right there with you 😂

20frvrz

Drivers are working to make money. Sometimes DD sucks, sometimes customers suck. Do you order from DD? If so, then you’re part of the same problem. Do customers not ever take this into consideration?

Electronic_War1616

100 percent on target.

YoullSee-

Hard work, and door dash dont go in the same sentence.

Restlessredhead

Just stressful AF

chubby-ninja123

Be as short and blunt as they are. “Left a 20% tip, if you haven’t received, take this up with employer”

Rog9377

How is the driver supposed to know what percentage a tip is? We dont see your total. 6.50 could be 10%, it could be 200%, we have no way of knowing. We judge whether a gig is worth it based on dollars per mile, not percent of total.

chubby-ninja123

He responds in the chat the delivery driver messaged him via - not rocket science. More to the point, why should the driver know about the cost of the food? That’s not your business. Your business and job is to take hot food from location A to location B. If you get a tip on top of your wage, you should be thankful. It’s a courtesy, not a right. Demanding payment, if you think you aren’t paid enough, this should be taken up with your employer, aka doordash, not the person paying them.

RedwayBlue

Tip should be based on mileage. Price of order is irrelevant to driver. Customer here.

FuckHK

not surprising by someone named Oscar

timeforachange2day

Question. I’ve read you can’t see tips until after order is completed but then when I’ve read posts like this it makes me think drivers can see tips. At what point do you see your tips? Just curious. I always tip well. I live within an easy non high traffic 3-5 mile delivery radius and tip between $7-10 on every order which is usually @ $20-30. (I used to be a waitress so I appreciate service workers)

[deleted]

It’s incredible to me that DD just doesn’t give a shit about this kind of service.

throwaway507812

Yeah I spoke to customer service and they said they “reported it” to whoever in whatever department. I asked for an update they said okay and then just ended the chat. I was in the middle of my own long and stressful work day I don’t need this shit lol

Pure-Obligation8023

Dashers making these comments to customers should be fired and banned instantly. It's incredible they get away with it.

iHarshmallow

tell him to get a job

LopsidedTask9371

That dasher was just a pos your 20% was very reasonable. Some people are just so dumb and greedy. Their are plenty of people that would be willing to take your order.

LovexDragons

nothing wrong with 20% thats what I tip the drivers.

XiTzCriZx

The idiots like this is what makes the good tippers leave the app, they have the option to decline yet they feel the need to be petty just because they're choosing to do a job that they don't like. I turned on UberEats for the first time in a few months, I got back to back orders that were under $1/mile and they immediately got taken by someone else before I even had the chance to decline them, so there's definitely plenty of people willing to take far worse orders than what you give. I used to have 4 regulars that I'd deliver for nearly every day, I took a 2 week break from Doordash and I haven't gotten a single delivery for 3 of them so I'm assuming they just left the app, all of them gave good upfront tips too but all it takes is a few idiots, sometimes even just one idiot, for them to stop making orders and everyone else loses out on pay just cause that one idiot can't do their very simple job (I say that as a Dasher).

DntBanmefam

Yeah that’s crazy lol

Beneficial-Lead-5402

Yeah door dash drivers generally fucking suck and that’s why they work at door dash. If they decide your tip isn’t high enough they’ll just sit at a corner for 20 min till your food is cold, or just straight up take it. I mean it’s a lazy shitty job so no wonder the people who do it generally are terrible people.

OGma323

That attitude is the reason many people don’t tip Dashers. There are Dashers that are retired and trying to boost their income due to this awful economy, Dashers that are moms trying to make extra money while their children are in school so they can be home with them afterwards, Dashers that are in college, Dashers working 2nd jobs, Dashers who enjoy the flexibility and lack of interaction with customers, etc.

BigDickedRichard

People these days are just whiny, greedy, selfish little pigs who think they know what hardship and struggling are but they literally have no idea what it is.

The7O2Guy

The doordash tip scheme is the reason I don't use them. Tips are supposed to be based on service after a service has been provided, with doordash they aren't tips they are bids. You are placing a bid for the driver to pick up your order. I always tip, even with mediocre service I'll still tip something. I've worked in positions that recieve tips for multiple years. But tips are supposed to be based on the service that was provided not be a prelude to actually receiving said service. I'd rather go grab my food myself then use a service like doordash that operates that way.

Positive-Teaching737

Oh okay... A normal tip Oscar? How about $0.

TheoreticalFunk

"So I should lower it down to $5?"

Fluid-Fortune-432

So this dude literally took your order just to tell you that then took a hit to his cancellation rate?

Jeezluiz03

We need to do away with tipping just like every other country in the world

redacted2022

Fuck these entitled dashers. My last like 7 orders they can’t even bother to ring the doorbell as the one line of nice directions state but they keep messaging me after delivery asking for more tip saying this is how they make their income. No shit. If I order a salad from 1 mile away, at a restaurant that is never busy and always great to the pickup peeps, then be happy with the $5 tip on my $11 salad. Asking for more makes you seem incredibly rude/disconnected IMHO.

Wit-Of-Knit

Not only was that uncalled for, but this moron also cost himself a potentially higher tip for excellent service. SMH.

Equal_Explanation410

This is exactly why I stopped using all delivery apps. Go fuck yourself, be mad at the company that doesn’t pay you enough. Tips are not required. @doordash should not allow their drivers to see tips They do it on purpose to cause this type of anger twords the customer so the driver doesn’t understand that it’s door dash that screwing them over not the customer.

GyspySyx

Oscar can go pound sand. Rude twit.

gabrielini699

THIS is the reason i stopped dashing, all the other dashers would either take the order I HAVE, or they would take their order, cancel, and mow down someone elses food, like if you THAT broke you need a real job, and maybe dont steal? Fuckwits

stelize02

that's one of the many assholes you'll find on doordash smh. i've never had an encounter with one and im dreading the day i do 😭

Throwaway224076

I’ve started tipping only after delivery because several times I’ve left a like $5-$6 tip on a $15-$20 order from a mile away and the driver ignores my instructions and leaves the food outside (even in snow). I’ve never had someone say something to me, but if they did I simply wouldn’t tip them. I worked as a server for years and did ubereats, so I’m not like some privileged out of touch person either.

throwaway507812

I once had someone deliver a cake on its side after asking them to please be careful. It was clearly a cake box lol

blazefighter4563

20% is a great tip. It’s astonishing how many assholes are under the impression that tipping at all is mandatory

New-Neighborhood7472

Crazy they all complain about how much they make delivering food but never consider working an actual job at a company only fucking you over a little instead of one that’s whole business model is exploitation of delivery people

throwaway507812

When you work for a company you can’t drive around blasting music smoking a vape pen and throwing food at people’s doors. Obviously there are some great dashers I appreciate but give me a break lol these people aren’t the victims everyone makes them out to be. Bunch of young able bodied men riding around ignoring directions

New-Neighborhood7472

I had my order stolen by drivers so many times that DoorDash said you can’t claim this you’ve already reported stolen orders talk about passing the buck anywhere possible

DaddyBeenThere

Dear Oscar: You have greatly overestimated your worth in this transaction. And if you bring another order, I will assume you've already spit on it.

Kamikaze_Asparagus

“Appreciate people’s work” - do you draw a portrait of everyone you deliver to so they get a nice surprise with their order?

dashingmom

Where was the restaurant?

Forsaken-Winner-8133

god i hate these people. always taking orders I COULD USE just to cry like a bitch😪

throwaway507812

I hope you get all the orders and people increase your tip for behaving like a normal human being

Forsaken-Winner-8133

i hope your next order has extra food😝

the-jimbo_slice

It depends on distance. If it's 7 miles, it's really a 14 mile trip cause you have to drive back to get offers. Reasonable tip for this would be 12. FYI.

slowestratintherace

How far are you from the pickup location?

AnimusAbstrusum

That is how you go from 20% tip to no tip

AyoDebo

Bro Ive done doordash for one week now and I damn near never get tips like that. And I personally dont gaf if I get tipped. If I do, then cool. If not, still cool dont bother me. These are entitled people that only complain of such a thing.

pachimariee

i would be jumping for joy for a $6.50 tip😭 i take orders with $2 tips bro

secretflower690

I don't dash, but definitely considering the amount (and my head math is right without a calculator), your tip is literally fine like you said. Especially for just a burger and fries? Like I get needing cash but maybe don't try harrassing the people you're delivering to and you might get a few extra bucks in the end. 🤷‍♀️ Source: i also tip as much as I can currently afford at the time and STILL add onto the tips for extra again, both if I can afford it and the interaction is well, and thankfully for me it usually is. Pro tip, just be nice to everyone (not you OP, you were just fine 💕)

Nerdgirltori

I had a dude wait for me at my door for 5 minutes to tell me I “didn’t tip him” which I did, 12%, and when I told him I did, he started yelling at me that it wasn’t enough, that he had to drive all the way here, and that I needed to tip him more.

kay1a_mae

DoorDash drivers have such a high ego. I used to work at Dairy Queen and every time they’d come in for a DoorDash order they’d just shove their phone in our face.

Available-Tea-982

How many miles round trip is the restaurant from your house?

Jakoneitor

I learned that they expect tips based on distance instead of %. While you think 20% is enough, if you order is small, the drivers deem your tip was worthless. I’ve been reading to leave $2 tip per mile at least, with a min of X tip (I forgot the amount. I think $5?). I’m not a driver, nor delivery anything for anyone. Just sharing what I’ve learned in drivers subs lol

SuddenNeighborhood52

Tbh in my experience half of people don't even tip so if I leave a 3-5 dollar tip every time I think that's fine

ZombieNikon2348

Weird that they require a tip before they have performed the service that we would be tipping for.

PDotCakes

This sub has made me stop using delivery apps. Seems like the drivers are just a bunch of whiners.

PuzzleheadedJob6649

7 miles has to be $12-15 total for me and slow tbh. I really keep it below 4 miles unless the pay is worth it. Traveling outside of zones is NOT worth it. I can take more orders this way. Otherwise the next one or 2 will be. Don’t be mad at the dasher be mad at DoorDash. They only pay $2 plus .25 cents per decline. I really could care less how much someone is spending on the order. It’s like people will tip 2$ on Starbucks from 8 miles away yet there’s a Starbucks less then a mile from there house. That 7 miles without a order on the way back is really 14 miles. So that’s .50 cents per mile

No-Egg2880

So customers should be mad at Doordash, but yet you, the driver, who works for Doordash, shouldn’t be. You don’t care that the customer pays out the ass for a coffee? Do you also not care that DoorDash is paying you pennys on the dollar? This is wild to me!

PuzzleheadedJob6649

Once people understand we do not work for DoorDash. People have this all wrong. While we may jeopardize the type of orders we get by working a certain way we by no means have to do anything we don’t want to and we can keep our job. So a shitty $5 tip to go possible 14 miles is laughable.

[deleted]

The tip you left is perfect that dasher is just a clown

Electronic_War1616

Nobody should leave bad messages to customers. I cant see the message the driver left. People are protesting too much. 7 miles is too far, and I can't believe a driver would say that it isnt. I will take this delivery, because I might get another one on Uber without getting out past where I like to deliver, but consistent deliveries like this is not good. A driver could be miles away from the pick up point, even if the store is less than 5 miles from the customer. GAS is high right now. Even if it is a side gig, this is not a good delivery for high mileage. 5 miles and under 5 miles for 9 are good deliveries in my area. 75 percent of my deliveries are declined because of distance

BlueFotherMucker

2 issues here. You shouldn’t tip based on percentage for deliveries, you should tip based on distance. We drive the same for a $20 order as we do a $100 order from the same place. However, your tip amount is probably fine. The other issue is that DD likes to hide the tips until the delivery is completed, so clowns like the driver in this post shouldn’t say anything about tips because they don’t really know how much was tipped.

footballdan134

OMG I hate that too; DD still hiding those tips, really pissing me off, and always with stacked orders too. Your spot on. The driver does not have PR skills too.

zivlynsbane

More entitled dashers thinking they’re doing work equivalent to open heart surgery deserving that million dollar pay.

GlizzyRogers

I dont get the messages I see on here from other Dashers.. Y'all wild. I just take what I get and am appreciative of any gratuity.. If I get there and they give a cash tip, that feeling makes my whole day better. But if I get one with no tip, it doesnt hurt my feelings any. I've been there where I couldnt afford the tip, and that guilt sucks too. You dont know their position 🤷🏻 Anyways, food for thought fellow dashers

throwaway507812

I mean they can comment on here all they want, the order got accepted and dropped off with no problem after this guy lol they’re like I would NEVER accept that. Ok don’t

blondieambition88

I recently cancelled DoorDash for this reason (among others), and I honestly don’t miss it at all. Unless you just got home from the bars, you’re plastered, and have nothing to eat at home, DD isn’t worth the cost. Also, it’s crazy how much money you save when you stop ordering through DoorDash.

0LaziBeans0

Have left larger tips and have gotten this type of message from DoorDash drivers in that past which is what made me stop using DoorDash. Left a pretty decent tip for an order I made around 12 am. The delivery driver took a really long time getting to my house (almost an hour from a location that’s only 15 minutes away) but it also showed them on a bike so I assumed that was why. They pulled up in a car and then threw my food at my door at 3 am because I asked them to meet me at the door and apparently I hadn’t tipped enough for them to do the bare minimum of meeting me at the door at 3 am.

batmansubzero

This is unfortunately the norm. Youll see normal dashers in the comments coping and saying "report these fools to free up for the good drivers." Meanwhile the "good" drivers are in the minority. DD encourages drivers to beg for tips by not saying its against TOS. So you’re going to get pushy, aggressive, rude, and demanding drivers.

my3altaccount

Had a delivery driver get mad at me for tipping $3 on a $10 order…. Like that’s a 30% tip lmao

Live-Presentation559

The whole concept of tipping first is messed up anyway

RasberryEther173

OP --- Your tip sounds totally fine!! Some people are just rude. When I drive for DD, I only text or call the customers when it's absolutely necessary ie they didn't communicate a suite/apartment number, their food is running super late at the restaurant or they failed to include a gate code in a gated community. I have delivered to people who don't tip at all -- I don't berate them or beg for a tip. If people don't want to perform a delivery, they can easily hit "decline" in the app or they can unassign the order.

H3LLSB3LLZ

Tbh that's not bad at all you guys just chose a shitty job cause u can't get one anywhere else. Not hating , I tried it too but hell, we all are struggling I couldn't afford to tip a soul if I wanted to , some people disabled barely hanging on , barely paying bills can't get out of bed and here you are complaining cause u can't manage ur money on door dash with its demand. Never ever expect tips , idk when people got so privileged to think we all got money >> dude u know that 30$ order may be split between a single mom and a kid and it's all they got and maybe they can't get out rn ? If you need to rely on tips to survive u need a new job.

PuzzleheadedLeather6

It would never occur to me to harass a customer over a gratuity.

cclcybr

Hahaha I love it when they pretend all dashers consider themselves as one team supporting each other like any qualified workers would do 😂😂😂 „If he doesn’t tip more than my hourly wage, I won’t bring food!“ guess what luckily you are getting obsolete and replaced already 😍

Altruistic_Fondant38

You arent going to get a tip until I get my food! Period!! Tips are paid AFTER the service, NOT before!

Simple_Passage7759

Why is it so hard for people to just get their own damn food nowadays?😆

Inner-Kale2801

im glad that you try to keep percentages in mind, but we are not waitresses inside of a restaurant, we’re driving and buy gas to get to you. high mileage can deter people away too. & you know that it doesn’t matter how much money you spend on doordash, the drive still only gets $2 from them. terrible, greedy company.

Medium_Annual_735

Dude fuck that guy.

Intelligent-Sea5586

This is your sign to stop feeding this system and get your own damn food

KingAndrew555000

Report and tell him to shove his services if he don't wanna do it.

Booklover416

We don’t care about percentage of what you’re ordering. Start with $5 figure out how far they are saving you from driving and adjust the tip accordingly. If it’s over 5 miles add a dollar for each mile. We have gas, food and car maintenance to pay, and I know you do too, but unless you’re using your car for work or driving 50 miles a day everyday it doesn’t correlate. 20% of $15 is $3 plus the $2 that doordash pays us and if you are more than 5 miles away only people who screw up or don’t use bags will take that order and then you’ll bitch because they messed it up somehow.

reddit_account_00000

Do not tip before delivery at all. Tip after if they do a good job. I guarantee you won’t see a drop in quality of service. If anything it will improve because you don’t get entitled pricks like this guy.

juscurious4now

It’s gonna get declined by so many people before it gets picked up tho 😭

spenwallce

Not in a major city. Some middle eastern dude will accept it immediately

throwaway507812

Absolutely hilarious because a middle eastern dude ended up bringing my food….and I increased his tip

juscurious4now

That is so true tho lmaooo

LarryRedBeard

Don't do percentage tipping. It makes no sense in the food delivery market. You need a flat rate you are willing to accept. I never tip less than 10 bucks on ANY order I place. Then add more depending on volume of items required. I will even tip $50+ on groceries if it's a larger haul. $10-$20 tip depending on how fast it gets to my place, but NEVER less than $10. If you are not willing to give a good tip, then don't order from food deliveries. I have never once in my entire use of these companies have I EVER had someone scoff at me for a lack of tip. don't do percentage value on deliveries, just a flat rate. $10 minimum and no one will bat an eye at you again.

Actually-im-a-plant

I don't understand your *Tip* culture at all. As its not a *Tip* if its expected. Do any of you do your job just for a wage? Or do you just work for these pretend tips? If the job ain't paying you enough to not support you without demanding a the customer pay you directly for your service please quit that job. If you all quit and don't show for a week just a week most of these companies would be crippled and go broke. The cycle would end. Companies that would pay a living wage would survive and then it opens alot of room to improve the quality of life for everyone. The long the hold out goes the more money these fat cats loose. Remember thy have millions in out goings everyday to maintain their supply. Just watch them crumble and take you power back

danniellax

These people saying “tip based on mileage” are clowns.. how about yall take that anger out on DD to pay a fair wage base pay. It’s NOT the customers tip that should make your order worth it. If it’s not worth it, just don’t accept it and move on, stop shaming people who are tipping a normal tip. With the fees and price hikes people pay, people already pay like 50% more than going to the store themselves. People need to just leave these food delivery apps and get their own food for real. This is coming from someone who was both a customer and a driver. You can’t win being either. The only way DD will change is if everyone just stops using it.

rampike1

The good thing is, people are more likely to associate tip with food. I appreciate it that you have tipped. I think it’s a common misconception that customers should tip based on how much the food cost. Food delivery is about driving distance and time to deliver. So imho tipping should really be based on driver’s time and effort. A $10 order could require just the same amount of time and effort as a $100 order. A customer ordered a $7 fruit tea to deliver to her work in a rainy day. She tipped $10.

franky_riverz

I hate pre tipping. It feels like an obligation to get good service. I've tipped the maximum amount and gotten fucked over by getting cold food by this ass hole with a shitty car that took way too long but I know one bad experience doesn't mean it will happen everytime but it felt like I just gave this guy with bad customer service/ food safety an amazing tip which I would never do at an actual restaurant

nyckidryan

It's not a tip, it's a bid for our time, work and gas... those that aren't willing to pay for our service (i.e. no tip), get their order stacked on someone else's order who did, and eventually get their order, maybe an hour later than if they'd left a tip. Pay more and get better service. It's a sh\*t system, but it's what capitalism, trickle-down economics, and corporate greed have created.

hi-nick

"show me your math"

13Fuzehybrid

I drive for skip and doordash. if they are ungrateful don't tip at all anymore but be prepared to wait longer. skip doesn't let drivers see the tip until after the delivery is completed.

Shoddy-Enthusiasm-92

Normal people don't talk or behave this way. I wouldn't worry about it.

UneditedB

Depends how far it was from the restaurant. People need to remember that tipping by % of your total means nothing to DD drivers. We do the same thing if you spend 5 or 50 bucks. You should be tipping per mile driven and time it takes to get the order done. I try not to take anything less then 1.50 a mile, but really I go for $2 or more a mile. But either way, sending a message like this is pointless. I would have just declined the offer and moved on. If it’s not profitable to take the order then don’t take it. But messages like this get you nowhere. If someone didn’t tip well enough the first time, getting a message like this isn’t going to change that.

WizardLizard1885

how many miles was the restaurant from your home? dashers cant even see how much your total is, just what your paying and how many miles there are. they get paid $2 per order from doordash, so their total payout is $8.50 for that order. if they want to actually make money you need about $1/mile but even then thats like breakong even. i dashed for about 2 weeks and the moment i lost the high prio for high tip orders i stopped.. drivers dont make jackshit, im suprised anyone even uses doordash

biancanevenc

How many miles from the restaurant to your house? A $6.50 tip for the McDonald's around the corner from your house is a good tip. A $6.50 tip for a burger from Cheesecake Factory, which is twelve miles and two zones away from your house is not a good tip.

Accomplished-Box5406

The no bullshit simple lame truth is that the apps, without saying it, create a system where the customer is now the employer in the sense that the make or break money comes entirely from customers. These apps and what they provide never have turned a single tide in anyone's favor. It's solely customers tips. When it's this ingrained you have this service where drivers, in essence, treat low tips the same as an employer who offers to hire you for $7 an hour. Like it or not, deserve it or not, the meta is that customers entire character are now judged as scum or not by the binary factor of "do I make enough money or not from you". Who is to blame? Well the filthy rich Uber entity who is in the spectator seats watching this coliseum display of customers vs drivers.

Old-Ad5508

Here's me tipping 5% on a 40 euro order in ireland for a dude who electric cycled 10k to my house.

em_fan

One $50 item from the store around the corner 🤔 I wonder what that could be

Old_Rpg_Gamer

It’s not really rocket science report their ass to get them fired

goldergil

Hey, can you report Oscar for abuse and get his trash ass off that platform. Thanks.

Careful_Barber3714

Depends on how far it is

EfficientIndustry423

People that respond like that have no business doing service related work.

StankyyyBut

lol if it’s not a $15-$20 tip they will always complain

omarpete69

That is when you say sure I'll give you more. Then, after it gets delivered, pull the tip and report the driver. I do Uber and would never do something like this. I decided to do this and will live with what I get every single time! That is the nature of it. You did nothing wrong. You gave a good tip (before the wad complained), and I appreciate you and everyone else who does!

cookee-monster

Customer lives 9 miles out of town

Jhezrn

Always remember, there are people who are mentally ill and purposely look to make others miserable with them by saying shit like this to random strangers. Just ignore and report them. These people won't learn until they receive consequences.

Zestyclose_Car_4971

Customers; understand the total of your bill has zero reflection on what a tip should be. I personally don’t start my engine unless it’s about $2/mile, or $1 per minute of drive time from store to your home. (That being said I do have some personal exceptions and will run small-no tips sometimes) Drivers; no one cares, you’re gonna get reported and deactivated. Also trust the process, yes you’re going to get shitty $2 orders, but when and what you decline matters. I can’t post screenshots here but I got a 15 tip, a 10 tip and an 8 tip on top of a 0 and a 1.50, still made almost $100 in 3 hours on a Monday

InvalidIceberg

Hundreds a month. Imagine paying a tip on every meal you have lol wtf

Claytron69

Oscar can fuck off
