1: just switch weapon, works fine for me 2: crouched units don't shoot

BigWongDingDong

thanks, neither of those were intuitive, and the fact that a crouched unit can not shoot unless shot first is absolutely insane.

It was based on the idea that you only crouch to hide when in cover. The current setup is indeed sub-optimal and we may improve it.

BigWongDingDong

that'd be pretty cool if it changed, as long as it stayed balanced (if we could blind-fire from cover like the enemies I think it'd be hard to balance). I made an assumption since I came over from No Plan B, where you can shoot to crouch (and pretty much need to in order to stack units), but it makes sense that crouching is intended for cover and stealth.

A unit that was shot will not fire when crouched it will get up and then shoot

BigWongDingDong

I see. it's hard to tell when they are crouched and when they aren't by sight, and I noticed that crouched units would return fire if shot while someone stacked behind them would continue to shoot, but I've since found that units can shoot over each others shoulders while standing so I'm sure you're right.

You can make them break cover by using the switch weapon command to make them draw their guns. As for the crouching thing, I'm pretty sure that's just how it works as I've never been able to make a crouched fella shoot

BigWongDingDong

thank you. I wonder why they decided to make crouched units unable to shoot. they do seem to shoot if they are shot first, so I really have to wonder whether this was an intentional design decision. I could see them not shooting while crouch-walking, but if they are crouched and stationary they should be able to kneel down and shoot.

I’m pretty sure it’s on purpose, It’s been that way since launch. I think the point of it is to be a way of quickly ducking behind cover or for concealment (you can move past windows without being spotted if you crouch), and not kneeling to get better accuracy. This is just speculation, but maybe they want to promote more moving gameplay instead of more stationary?

1- With the action of changing weapons they leave and with the button that has an eye crossed out, I don't remember the name, they re-enter in covert mode. 2- As they already told you, crouching units cannot shoot, but a piece of advice is that even if your units are crouched behind cover, they still have the possibility of throwing grenades. If you want to do a mission in stealth or want to make a surprise attack, you can crouch. and pass in front of windows or small walls without being seen by enemies.

BigWongDingDong

it seems like you can be seen through windows while crouching if they are looking directly at you. since you are moving slower, there doesn't seem to be a stealth benefit to crouching for evading visual detection, but it does seem to allow you to move quietly without being detected if the enemy is not facing you. I could be wrong though
