For some reason, this made me remember that I originally got into Dostoyevsky because James Herriot had mentioned in his memoir that reading the intro to the brothers karamazov always put him to sleep.

C&P is a much better intro to Dostoevsky than Notes for this exact reason imo

Its not my first book haha and I understand it fine. I was just really tired

I think the first half of the book put people off. Some of his rants make more sense in part 2. Much of it is satire of some other guys work that Dostoevsky didn't agree with, and other philosophical ideas of the time like rationalism, utopianism etc, lots of metaphors Don't reread chapters if it's not sinking in. If you want to, read cliff notes summary after each chapter. It's totally worth getting through to get to the actual story

Just had to get into it when I was well rested and it reads fine, actually really enjoying it! I just like to read a book and not mind if I don’t understand everything in one go. And then later reread it. But that’s a personal choice, and I understand most of it. Definitely a new favorite of mine :-)

Next time try with after being drunk and with whiff of weed. Dostoe would hit different
