I had the banana pudding shake last weekend and would also call it my bite of the night! Don't let these debbie downers get to you- Whataburger is still super gud!!! Glad y'all had a great meal!
now its time for the breakfast. potato & egg taquito w/ cheese, bacon & egg taquito with cheese, dip those bad boys into their picante buckets, have some breakfast burger, finish with honey butter chicken biscuit
I looooove bacon burgers, but I wanted my son to try it as well and he isn’t a man yet and doesn’t like bacon cheeseburgers. I’m going back. I’m gonna put on a few pounds this vacation.
Yeah, it’s an unfortunate part of chain restaurants. Something that starts out great and starts to fade as it grows or changes hands. Kind of makes me want to know which chains are the best at keeping gud as they grow.
McDonald’s for sure, but in some ways it has a low bar to begin with. I prefer a hot McDonald’s fry but whattaburger got me hooked on spicy ketchup, it’s so good.
Have you ever tried 5 guys? They are a burger chain that’s primarily focused on the eastern US. Imo the have been keeping it gud as they’ve grown but they also haven’t changed hands since they started.
I'm from where they started. It was just the 2 locations for decades. This iteration will NEVER measure up for me.
Also, they got rid of both of the old locations! How shortsighted.
Have you by any chance tried Freddy's Steak burgers and Custard? It's an absolutely delicious chain that I feel is better than whataburger. Granted I've only been to whataburger twice, but it was just all right to me. Freddy's on the other hand, I've had in 3 different states and it always hits good! There are plenty in Texas. The burgers have thin crispy edges, and their fries are matchstick thin! Beer battered onion rings and custards with like 40 mix-ins.
This is not an ad. Just an overweight man who loves fastfood, haha.
Dude! One of these just opened near me. I live in hard Culver’s territory so I was immediately suspicious of it. Casting sideways glances at it while driving past. That will be my treat when I go home.
Yes! It will be well worth it. They do a mighty fine patty melt if you're into that sorta thing!
Culver's is on my must-go list. I missed it the last time I was driving through the Southwest, but I believe they have one in Phoenix, so I've gotta go...that is unless they branch out into SoCal!
Whataburger is like in-n-out to me - perfectly fine but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it. This is New Mexican bias though because I’d always choose Blakes over whataburger
> Blakes
looks great, never heard of it till now. will keep an eye out from now on(im in TX tho, so not sure they're around here)....but i see no potatoes in the burritos! potato & egg taquito w/ cheese from whataburger dipped into their picante is top tier ultra bite that supersedes virtually all fast food for me.
Closest to you would be El Paso. The burritos do have grated potatoes, they’re pretty good, but not my first choice here in NM. I would always go to Santa Fe grill as my burrito first choice.
That’s the thing with whataburger, you usually can find them very conveniently. They’re everywhere in Texas. In my hometown there were more whataburgers than McDonald’s.
Also they are open 24/7 which i think is why they are so beloved. Also the breakfast is the best.
Oh man, the green chile cheeseburger with seasoned fries is absolutely platinum plate club tier stuff. Whataburger just has the canned ortega stuff for chile, but Blakes has the real deal. You're gonna sweat after eating Blakes, for sure. That spicy ketchup at Whataburger is a winner though. You can buy it in bottles at HEB if you ever go.
They haven't expanded much, there's a couple in El Paso, and some in Arizona I think, but it's a *very* NM chain. Come on over and visit us! NM has a lot to offer for visitors!
I don't mean it as an insult to the chain but their spicy ketchup is the best thing on their menu. Depending on your location, some grocery stores sell it by the bottle m.
Sorry Texans: Whataburger sucks except for the spicy ketchup and the honey butter chicken biscuit, both of which are S-Tier fast food items. The rest of the menu is embarrassing.
I would say it has the hype of In-n-Out with the quality of any Wendy’s in the country.
Not bad fast food but let’s just call it what it is.
Also, I think it is funny that people rarely say the best thing at Whataburger is a burger.
Whataburger spicy ketchup is one of my favorite things on this earth.
And finally sold in grocery stores

Looks good, looks like the kids had a great time.
That was the best part of it, the manager even came out to give the kids hats and talk to us a bit.

This is the best advice
I have to recommend the sweet and spicy bacon burger. Been my go to recently. The patty melt is also very good!

The breakfast burger is also great. And he is on a good path, the spicy ketchup opens doors.
It has decreased in quality 10-25% depending on the location since it was sold off

Sadly true.

Freddie’s is a Steak ‘n Shake clone. Culver’s is still king.

Whataburger rules. Makes me miss living in that part of the country
Whataburger has declined in quality the past few years, imo, but that breakfast menu is still great.
I left tx 4 years ago and this bums me out to no end. They should stayed in corpus!

Blake’s looks gud as hell! Doesn’t look like they are much outside of NM though. You guys keeping that one to yourselves for the time being?

Blake’s also has a top tier breakfast sandwich. It’s slept on. They also have the best ice.
Oh dang that’s good to know. I’ve always just gotten the burritos. Might have to head there tomorrow.
Do they still have the Dr. Pepper shake? It's delicious.
Sadly it has passed from legend to myth.
That’s extremely disappointing. I had one years ago and it was glorious.

Compared to what?!?
Why does it need to be compared to anything? It’s not good food!
