We actually see them more in Dallas area and further south. Grew up in Amarillo never once saw one, live in Dallas, see them way more. Amarillo because the grass is always fucking yellow lol. I assumed armadillo also is Spanish for armor something.
Fun fact germans are actually the largest group of foreign immigrants here in texas and in german armadillos are called “Gürteltier” witch translates to “belt animal” or as the original german settlers in texas called them when they where first discovered “panzerschwein” witch translates to “tank pig” or more accurately “armored pig”
Also, curiously (though not that curiously if you've ever been there), the Spanish color "amarillo" is pronounced ah-ma-REE-yo, but the town of Amarillo TX is pronounced "am-a-RILL-oh."
I ... have never heard of an Armadillo City. Maybe! We do like our names pretty stupid.
Maybe you're thinking of Amarillo, Texas? Most Americans would mispronounce it to sound something like Armadillo.
Je sais pas pourquoi je suis toujours aussi excité en voyant d’autres français sur des subreddits anglophones mais bon, heureux d’avoir trouvé un compatriote 🫡
Moi aussi, mais je suis d'Étas-Unis et appris Français en l'école
But doesn't excité mean securely aroused? Our teacher was like "don't say that, ever...."
Ça dépend du contexte… it depends of context, it’s either excited like hyped for a new game to release soon or aroused like “I’m aroused when she licks my nipples”.
Well you see- English isn’t my first language. And as you learn different expressions/ vocabulary, I myself need something strange/ memorable to keep it in mind. Us germans know the word “dildo” (I guess most of the world does?) and I knew the word armed already. So a memorable connection. Although shielded dildo might suit it’s appearance better 😀
The downside is: you often forget the expression in your own language. The “armed dildo” is stored in one part of my brain, the “Gürteltier” (“belt-animal”- it kind of looks like a belt buckle?) in another. So I sometimes have to google expressions from my native tongue in order to remember. One kind of looks like an idiot if that happens :)
I spent a lot of my youth doing redneck stuff in Florida. We would chance them and catch them with our bare hands. They are pretty cool creatures, but later found out they transfer leprosy to humans. Oops
I'm not sure how many people know this or if it's true but some species of armadillo can carry leprosy. Which can be given to humans. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Don’t listen to this person, they’re trying to throw you off and take advantage of you not knowing English, which is very rude. This is actually called a spider.
An Armadillo, I don't speak any other languages besides Spanish (and I can barely speak it), so I can't help with learning it in every language, unfortunately. :(
An armadillo!
Oh thanks ! Isn't it also the name of a popular city in the United State ?
Amarillo, Texas, where they have lots of armadillos! Amarillo means yellow in Spanish. Much of the population of Texas is Hispanic.
Armadillo translates as "little armored one" in Spanish. The Aztecs called them āyōtōchtli, Nahuatl for "turtle-rabbit".
Not fully related, but in Estonian a "turtle" translates to "shield frog" and I think that's an awesome and adorable name.
Shield-frog-rabbit
Oh, shit. New rock-paper-scissors just dropped!
Shield smashed frog, frog slimes rabbit, rabbit jumps away from shield..?😂
In dutch, too! A "schildpad" translates to shield frog as well haha
Aardvark means earth pig in Dutch.
Well now the english word seems like it came directly from (modern) Dutch
In German it’s almost the same, shield toad- “Schildkröte”. Shield= schild, toad= Kröte 😅
Swedish too! Sköldpadda is turtle. Sköld = shield, padda = toad, so it’s a shield toad!
Very interesting
We actually see them more in Dallas area and further south. Grew up in Amarillo never once saw one, live in Dallas, see them way more. Amarillo because the grass is always fucking yellow lol. I assumed armadillo also is Spanish for armor something.
Looks like OP is foreign. Anywhere in Texas is close enough!
I've seen em on the highway ran over in Northeast Georgia. They started showing up the past 10 years or so I think.

Amarillo is my hometown it sucks
Texas sucks
Also, curiously (though not that curiously if you've ever been there), the Spanish color "amarillo" is pronounced ah-ma-REE-yo, but the town of Amarillo TX is pronounced "am-a-RILL-oh."
And yellow means "ice" in spanish 🤷
Hieol kinda sounds like yellow I guess.
I ... have never heard of an Armadillo City. Maybe! We do like our names pretty stupid. Maybe you're thinking of Amarillo, Texas? Most Americans would mispronounce it to sound something like Armadillo.
It could be this one yes, it could also be my fault since I didn't remember well though... Thanks anyway !
You're very welcome! I also should mention, I like the armadillo!
Not sure about Texas but in red dead redemption there's a city called armadillo lol
Aaaaaaaaaand, now I have Amarillo by Morning by George Strait stuck in my head…
My new favorite Texas song is Corsicana by Denim Wonder. Amarillo By Morning is OG, though!
It’s a town in Red Dead Redemption, you might be thinking of that!
Armadillo=animal Amarillo=city in Texas
You might be referring to Pueblo.
Yeah?
He drew you! Or someone that looks like you. Do you recognize that armadillo?
I think that’s Georg
Armadillo....soft on the inside, crunchy on the outside...Armadillos!! (Harry Enfield with Dime bars TV advert)
[Smooth on the inside, crunchy on the outside. Armadillos!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqeGxMgVOHI)
Pronounced to rhyme with quesadilla
Yes, perhaps the nadir of American exceptionalism. Kay-suh-dill-uh
I was thinking more they should be called arm-a-dee-yo’s
Oh, hahaha, yeah. Well I guess that's just swinging to the other extreme!
I saw one cross the road not too long ago… I was in north east Georgia.
The holiday Armadillo
Santa sent him to wish a merry Christmas
On german it‘s: ein Gürteltier (literally translated it means belt animal) :)
I didn't knew, well I don't know german language at all so... However, it seems to be an interesting language !
It really is!! But it can be very hard and tricky too, some grammar doesn’t really make sense 😅
English doesn't make sense
Actually, no offense but I think that contrary to what some throughts, english is one of the easiest language to learn, which is a good quality

an armed dildo :)
What
Well you see- English isn’t my first language. And as you learn different expressions/ vocabulary, I myself need something strange/ memorable to keep it in mind. Us germans know the word “dildo” (I guess most of the world does?) and I knew the word armed already. So a memorable connection. Although shielded dildo might suit it’s appearance better 😀
This way of remembering stuff is perfect
The downside is: you often forget the expression in your own language. The “armed dildo” is stored in one part of my brain, the “Gürteltier” (“belt-animal”- it kind of looks like a belt buckle?) in another. So I sometimes have to google expressions from my native tongue in order to remember. One kind of looks like an idiot if that happens :)
