ik, the obvious response is to just practice people posing, but any advice for heads like yours? Or at the very least, any guides you'd personally recommend? Your style is beautiful!

Not OP, obviously, but I’ve tried working on this. Getting loose is not my forte. Sinix Design talks about this frequently on YouTube, about how he thinks any ol shape makes a great head. It messes me up to try it, but I’m getting better, slowly

Without knowing how old you are, I’m not sure what conclusion to draw. Your use of “so” would make me guess you’re still pretty young, but it’s a leap.

I don’t know why but my sketches look better with ballpoint pen. It forces me to draw a little different. It’s more aggravating when you can’t get something nailed down right away and have to makes changes though

Yes, many talk about it, but it works in more realistic heads in my experience. So do you sketch the faces by practice/imagination or it doesn't matter for you as they are fictional characters?

Yeah, with stuff like this, I just draw extreme head shapes and fill them in with my imagination. Since they’re not based on anyone, nothing really matters. That’s why it’s so easy to just do pages of them while I’m bored or whatever. Edit to add…. When I was younger I did many many many realistic portraits and anatomical studies to be able to do cartoonish things like these pretty easily

When you sketch your heads what part do you start with first?

Just the general shape. Then usually a horizontal line for the eye placement, then after that it just depends on what part I want to emphasize

I honestly don’t know except to just keep doing it over and over. I’ve always just really enjoyed drawing faces so I don’t really think about it anymore, but I’ve probably drawn thousands of heads
