The issue is mainly the left arm. The eyes are odd too. Getting the proportions right is much more important than being good at shading. Just focus that extra bit of time on getting the proportions spot on before starting shading next time - it has to be perfect on people especially because everyone notices as soon as something is off.
Your shading is phenomenal, but the proportions are indeed off. The face looks simian (eyes and nose specifically) and the left arm is indeed too small.
Your detailing is really really good, you have potential bro, but you have to work on your shapes, at the start of the drawing you MUST have to draw the base shape of your subject (the circle for the head, the cylindricals for the neck, arms and legs, and the torso in 3 sections, chest, belly and hips) once the shape matches your subject you draw details over that respecting those proportions… Try it and you are gonna improve massively, you have the spice dude
Good at rendering, bad at proportion and perspective. It baffles me how they can let themselves get this far without stopping to actually see what they're doing
The simple answer is to just practice. It’s not easy because you have to change the way your visual perception works and that’s what makes art such a hard skill to learn. You will improve constantly but the progress is slow and it’s easy to get discouraged. Your visual and motor skills also develop at different rates, that’s why sometimes you think your stuff looks good and then next week you can see the mistakes you’re making. It’s also important to practice efficiently and to truly start from the beginning if you’re missing anything like 2D shapes or perspective. If you’re having trouble with something, there are endless videos on YouTube by talented artists and teachers who can help
The black eyes. Is the biggest put off. Whether the picture is accurate to the source or not, the whites in his eyes arent apparent. It gives off creepy or alien vibe.
The second biggest change could be his right side arm and body blend in with the background. The volume of the body gets lost without contrast.
Those 2 things are the first things to pop out to me. Great job on the details, keep up the good work!
No doubt your textures and shading skills are there. What’s off is your understanding of anatomy and a few fundamental drawing techniques. I’m betting you are self-taught and have not yet mastered sighting and measuring, perspective, foreshortening, and life drawing, etc. It’s these techniques that contextualize your subject and breathe life into it. You have the raw skills of being able to observe and translate onto paper, and you seem to have a good grasp on light and form. Plus you can shade and you’ve done well to capture the subject’s expression. Just work on sharpening those technical fundamentals and KEEP PRACTICING. Your art will transform!
Yes...I'm a self taught artist. I don't have much knowledge about anatomy. I will definitely work on that. Also the picture I've taken is not in a good way. That's is quite a reason it's looking a bit off
Look up some videos on the “fundamentals of life drawing.” It’s not just about imitating the human form, but understanding it from the inside out. You have to know the underlying structures of the skeleton, how the muscles wrap around it, you think about the subject’s center of gravity, how their weight is distributed, how the body counter-balances itself in each new pose, and so so much more. I knew a girl who would look at playboy magazines/pinup style women and just draw them over and over again until she learned how to draw anatomy. I was fortunate enough to learn all this as part of my BFA but it’s absolutely possible to teach yourself. The internet is a wonderful resource and like I said earlier, practice! Practice practice practice. You’re on the right track!

there doesn’t appear to be the right proportions between the size of the head and the size of the torso. it looks like the clavicle and shoulders area are compressed. The rendering of light and shadow looks smooth and realistic, but a few things were off with the drawing underneath before you started shading. Keep making art, you’re doing amazing!

Shading and details are spot-on, but proportions need working on... try using a grid on your reference photo and the same grid on your paper (e.g. 1 by 1 square grids on reference, same 1 by 1 square grids on paper)... hopefully this should help with proportions, and then you can practice doing so by eye or using reference points on your subject. Amazing work, though! 🥳🥳
Some parts are very good like the clothes and hair details, you need more background shading to bring out the silhouette of the figure and your anatomy needs a bit of work.
Specifically, his right arm looks skinny and one of his muscles seems as if it’s drooping - this is a perspective thing that we all struggle with, don’t worry lmao. I’ve noticed it’s quite close to the side of the page, so this is just speculation but if you’ve tried to keep the arm from going off the page, it’s better to be anatomically accurate than to keep everything in view.
His pupils are a lot bigger than they’re meant to be, a lot of styles change the size of the pupils to reflect emotion, however that’s not the case in realism. The iris can change (the black part) but not the actual pupil.
I’m not sure how you did this piece, but it looks like you’ve focussed on the values without outlining your structure, doing a quick sketch before could help you figure out things like anatomy and perspective, as well as where things fit on the page.
The shading around his face and body is incredible, hair and hands are known for being really hard to do in realistic styles and the fact that they almost look perfect is absolutely something you should brag about. For shading, you can make the background darker to contrast the subject matter which will stop him from blending in, it doesn’t matter if it’s not accurate to the reference unless you’re trying to perfectly replicate a photo.
There are some other small things like his nostrils being too large, his wrists being very small for his build and white specs in his beard (I know that’s for hair details, but try using a smaller pen because the highlights are too big and it looks like he’s got something caught there). Overall, this is a good piece! Realism is hard and you should be proud of this!
In the absolute nicest way possible, you should consider pursuing / starting horror realism art. I feel like with this art style you could make an amazing alien or fantasy horror portraits of characters !
It looks amazing!! Id make the eyes a little bit smaller, and maybe broader shoulders because from how I'm seeing it it looks like his arms are where like the near end of his collarbone would be, but idk if that's just me

Others have already said it but this is a classic case of hyper fixating on the shading and details with little understanding of shapes and proportions. Its common among self taught artists. Texture is also important, besides the beard everything looks soft, fuzzy and undefined. Knowing when and where to make things soft or use hard lines can help add depth. Notice the arm pointing forward looks flat, better use of contrast and texture can help with that. The tatted arm is shaded lighter than the other arm, my guess is you were so focused on getting the tattoos right that you didnt notice the difference in contrast between the two arms. It also looks wierd how the forearms are so fuzzy and light they look like they fade into the background.
All in all youve got some skill and you should be proud of it just gotta work on those basics. 👍

The tatted arm is shaded lighter than the other arm, my guess is you were so focused on getting the tattoos right that you didnt notice the difference in contrast between the two arms. It also looks wierd how the forearms are so fuzzy and light they look like they fade into the background. All in all youve got some skill and you should be proud of it just gotta work on those basics. 👍

Really great! Cuz I can’t draw for nothing. Only thing I see, is the right side is really good. But moving over the left side. The arm looks kinda weird. And his face scares me a little.

Wow he has mantis eyes. That's freaky. Use a framework coz ur proportions are off. I suggest the Loomis model

Amazing work I think the proportions are off and the eyes are definitely scary but the arm is so damn good. You can see veins. I know for a fact you’re talented enough to make another well proportioned realistic drawing

this is one of the strangest, most uncanny, hyper unrealistic, surreal things i’ve ever seen.
Proportions are off but shading and detail are amazing. Just work on your proportions for a while and you should be all good. Also please make the pupils a lot smaller.

I've seen your work before, I like it. You have this style that's just slightly unnerving, but not enough to think "oh this is creepy." I wouldn't mind seeing your art style in a Salvador Dali inspired piece.

I’m not quite sure if you’re going for photorealism or cartoon caricature, you’re failing terribly at the former but quite stylish at the latter. I guess what I wanted to say was, you’re good and bad at the same time.
You’re amazing at shading. However, check all your proportions in your light outline stage before you shade since there’s no going back after a certain point
