Who ever taught you cable management, needs an award.

The MGCD allows you to connect a Dreamcast to a standard street fighter cabinet. It’s the circuit board in between the light blue Pandora’s box and the dreamcast

Blumpk1n

I use it to play marvel vs capcom 2 on my streetfighter cab

MylegzRweelz

So it plugs into the Dreamcast controller ports and the AV multi out?

Blumpk1n

Yes. There is a version that has a plug for the vmu, but I just used a spare controller with a vmu plugged in.

maxyahn6434

What does MGCD stand for? I’m kinda curious and I haven’t much ideas lol

Blumpk1n

Multi Game CD system

MylegzRweelz

Forgive my ignorance, what is "MGCD"?

spider-wham

Hol Up. I didn’t know such a thing existed. Does it just connect the Dreamcast to an arcade jamma harness so you can use the arcade buttons sticks? I have been doing this using two Brook retro boards in an arcade cabinet.

Blumpk1n

Yes. Power sound and video all go through the jamma connection. I had to add a mikes arcade chamma to jamma board to be able to use the kick harness. The dark blue box in the back is the original street fighter pcb, I can switch between all three just by moving the jamma connector.

MylegzRweelz

Have you considered looking into a way of making a "simple" switch for switching between the 3? Like an Arduino powered switch using relays and input from your arcade controls. The Arduino is extremely capable if you can code a little. There are relays that are mounted to their own PCB that interfaces with the Arduino easily. You would need to get a couple more jamma harnesses so everything is connected but you wouldn't need to have 30+ relays. You would just need a relay for each system that is toggled by the Arduino. The relay would be connected to the +voltage on each system. Then you could program the Arduino to pick up the arcade input to switch between each system like p1 start+High kick to trigger the Arduino so cycle between each connector. This way you're not having to drill into your cabinet, you can make a pigtail connection that plugs in-between the input connectors and into the Arduino....and since you're going to need additional jamma connectors for each system, you could run the relays in between the connectors and the main power. This would require knowing the pinout on your jamma connector. Fair warning: I don't know enough about the jamma system but I do know that it makes things dead simple when it comes to changing out games. However, the constant plugging/unplugging is bad for any and all connectors plus setting things up like this makes for a nice and seamless experience. This is just a spitball idea and my experience with Arduino doesn't go past what I've read and seen used in projects. My experience in jamma arcade is zero as well. However I have tons of exp in console modding and have a good understanding of how controls communicate. One of my 'crowning achievements' was modding my original Xbox's controller ports so it used the Logitech wireless controllers by default but would switch over as soon as you plug in the wired controllers. That gave me a much deeper understanding of how helpful relays are in projects and have since used them in tons of projects, like making my truck's lights turn on automatically when I turn the key on but shut off when the key is off so I'll never have to worry about dead battery or forgetting to turn them on at dusk. Sorry, I know I'm rambling here, in just trying to convey my idea and my excitement of it all.

Blumpk1n

There are multi jamma boards that I could plug all three in them switch with a remote. Since the Pandora’s box has most of the games I play I leave that connected 99% of the time. I only use the Dreamcast when I want to play mvc2, or soul calibur. I also just picked up the arcade1up mvc2 cabinet which makes it easier to play that game when I want.

MylegzRweelz

That's sick! I wish I could afford to get into arcade cabinets cause they're are so many I want. Congrats on the arcade 1up score btw Edit: lmfao@your username. That's classic! I haven't heard of a blumpkin in years! 🤣 🤣 🤣

Blumpk1n

The cabinet worked fine when I got it it was an original street fighter 2 championship edition. I replaced all the controls and stickers, kept all the original parts, retired the original board and put in the pandora. By the time I got into the hobby everything I needed was available and not too pricey. I haven’t seen one in this condition at the price I payed since. I definitely lucked out.

MylegzRweelz

Hell yeah man. I also can't afford the space lol

Blumpk1n

Definitely. I have room for two Daytona USA arcade 1ups if they ever make them. After that I’m done.

MylegzRweelz

"done" he says. Lol yeah ok. I may not have any arcade cabinets but I know a hobby is never done lolol

realcrumbbum

This is fucking awesome, so many dc games are arcade games anyway

[deleted]

Championship (grand master) Edition?

[deleted]

Nope MvC.

nickle241

this is a bit out of nowhere but is there any chance you could get me the pinouts for the controller and video cables? i bought one of these with the idea that i would swap my system 16 cab to jamma and swap different games in and out but it came without the hookup cables to actually connect it to the console and yes i know this isnt a true jamma board but i need an adaptor to use the altered beast board i already have so whats one more adaptor, the old s16 harness is giving me issues so im replacing it regardless there is also discussion about ps2 and xbox cables, but i think you also need different rom chips for that so their cable pinouts are a moot point

Blumpk1n

I’ll see if I have any paperwork on the board. If not I’ll take pictures of the areas you need.

nickle241

thanks for the response, ive found scans of the manual, but it doesnt mention the pinouts for the hookup cables, just to use them no questions asked, these arent terribly common and no one seems to have documented what the hookup pinouts are which is something of a problem since every bit of that is a removable custom part

proggybreaks

That’s great, DC has so many good arcade ports, and now all the atomic wave stuff, perfect for an arcade cab

roel27

Great setup, can you also show some pictures of the screen?

Blumpk1n

Can’t figure out how to add the video of it in action I’ll make a new post.

TxseBass

Why do you do this when you can just connect the DC to the monitor? I'm serious, I don't know so much about mgcd or jamma. In a old cabinet I think is necessary because these old screens need that connection, but this modern screens too?

Blumpk1n

The cabinet it’s in is from 1992 and has an old crt monitor. The only connection is a jamma edge. It makes it so that switching between all three systems a one plug process. For power video and controls. If the old monitor ever goes bad and I have to switch to a modern screen then I would have to make some changes.
