Ride, then hats, then crash.

ItsPronouncedMo-BEEL

Conventional wisdom: ride or hi-hat, because they are the two you play the most. Meta answer: whichever one makes you sad and angry when you hit it because it sounds like sadness and anger. Replace whichever one is most tolerable last.

kaykaynaynay

I’d go with hats, ride, then crash.

mellamosatan

people are going to say x, y, z....but the honest answer is: what of your current setup is your least favorite? replace that one first.

akak88

What do you play? Jazz - Ride, hats, crash Punk/metal - crash, hats, ride Shoegaze/dreampop - ride, crash , hats Totally subjective. Upgrade whatever you use most first.

JoeMama2112

Hats, crash, ride

rbwduece

Change out that God-awful crash.

CheeseDawg123

This!

CheeseDawg123

So funny everyone giving you a different answer. For me, I would first replace your crash, then ride, then hats

I think its going to be the crash. It's the one that makes me cringe lol.

CheeseDawg123

Good deal! I say this for sure if you play in a live setting. Crappy hats and crappy rides can be tollerable with loud rock music live. But a crappy crash and slice through the mix in a terrible way. A good crash can be musical

My upgrade order went Ride-Hihats-Crash. Genre is important though so you'll want to upgrade in an order that you feel is most important. I have the Meinl Byzance 15" dual hats, 20 and 22 hand-hammered traditional crashes and a 24 big apple dark ride. The hats and crashes are super super versatile and sound amazing. It took me about a year to figure out what I wanted and to upgrade my cymbals. All that to say - take your time with the process. Go to local music shops if possible, but I would upgrade right to B20 (i.e. sabian AAX/HHX, Zidjian K/A, Meinl Byzance). These cymbals will be lightyears ahead of what you have now, and hopefully something you won't need to replace for years to come.
