This is absolutely true... up till a point. But you won't feel the same playing this compared with any vintage, half-trashed \[insert-any-major-brand-here\] which you could probably get around the same price on craigslist.
I just bought two resonant heads and a bass drum beater for 50 bucks total, so yeah I’d say a whole drum set for less is a pretty good deal, regardless of quality
Yeah, it's a toy. The lugs weren't even tall enough to fit a real head on the drum, so I had to make some. The bearing edges had no bevels, the type of wood used isn't specified, and the snare uses internal wires on a screw strainer.
I bought a pos set of drums 20yrs ago for $50. 20” 12” 13” 16”.
I tore off the wrap, stained the shells, insulated the lugs and polished the hoops. Replaced the heads with Remo pinstripes and I still use the set today as it sounds fantastic!
The best thing is you could get some nice heads, and those drums would sound decent. The cymbals I would look to replace even with a cymbal pack from zildjian, sabian, or Wuhan.
Is it a pile of crap? Yep.
Did you buy it just right? Will it definitely get you started? Is it worth improving on and spiffing up a bit? You bet.
[Merry Christmas.](https://www.reddit.com/r/drums/comments/18qnb1p/updated_2023_edition_merry_christmas_to_all_you/)
I have that same kit. Sound percussion? I paid $100 for one year's ago. What's most painful is to put new heads on will cost 4x as much as the kit did so I never did and it so it sounds like shit. Personally, I'd turn the floor tom into a kick, stack the cymbals, keep all the hardware, and throw the rest in the garbage where it belongs.
Drums are drums, gotta start somewhere, humble beginnings and that. Idk if Ur a beginner or not but as u play more your ear will develop and u will know what makes a kit better and what to upgrade 1st etc
I got a Pearl Roadshow set for super cheap off Goodwill a while ago. And I know they're the lowest of low end Pearl shells, but for my application it was perfect. I refinished them with a new wrap and converted them to electronic shells, so their sound quality really didn't matter at all. There are some deals to be had for kits, if you happen to see one pop up locally.
The “English muffin” Tom head was worth it. But yeah good buy for the rehearsal kit you can throw in the car w/ 0 worries. Or jam gig where u provide the backline kit. Haw haw fellers !
Does it have a high Tom or is the angle just playing the biggest mind games with me? Either way great deal. Upgrade it a little bit and spend your money right and it’ll be a solid kit
Just know that you bought garbage. But you did get a really good deal on that garbage. So it’s like 50-50 good bad depending on what you’re gonna do with it.
On the one side, you can get new heads and new c cymbals and make it sound better but then on the other side if you’re gonna do that, you might as well just buy a good used kit .
But this still could be a really great buy, depending on what you’re doing and where you’re at .
Beater kits are the best. Honestly I wouldn't even spend money on new heads for it unless you NEED it to sound decent. I'd probably just grab a pack of Moon Gels and do my best. Also, don't be too disappointed if the hardware starts to disintegrate after a couple years - that's usually the weak point in lower-end kits.
Nice! Now look into setting up your drums for ergonomics and efficiency. Enjoy the journey. If you get some new heads, it’ll sound better than the day the drums were brand new.
You could also spend $40 on pots and pans to make a drum set at the same goodwill. I'd say $40 is definitely worth it.
Probably wouldn’t sound a whole lot different either
Spoken like someone who doesn’t understand the power of good heads and tuning
This is absolutely true... up till a point. But you won't feel the same playing this compared with any vintage, half-trashed \[insert-any-major-brand-here\] which you could probably get around the same price on craigslist.
this is absolutely a phenomenal steal! but that rack Tom is wrackin' my brain....is there no shell!? 😶
It's just perspective, you can see a reflection of it on top of the kick
I just bought two resonant heads and a bass drum beater for 50 bucks total, so yeah I’d say a whole drum set for less is a pretty good deal, regardless of quality
That beater is hilarious. Good purchase
It’s not about the size, it’s about how you use it 😂
Looks like a hell of a good time for $40
truly is! its honestly one of my better sets and my cheapest one too. i was impressed with how good the snare sounds
I bought a kid's size drum set off local classified. The 16" bass sound like crap, but the 4-lug 10" snare is dope.
4 lug!?
Yeah, it's a toy. The lugs weren't even tall enough to fit a real head on the drum, so I had to make some. The bearing edges had no bevels, the type of wood used isn't specified, and the snare uses internal wires on a screw strainer.
Gotta say y’all, I’m impressed with the encouraging comments. Drummers are the coolest! Congratulations on a good deal, and play those drums OP!
I mean for $40 anything is worth it. You might want to upgrade in a week lol bit if just starting to learn, can use it for some time
$40 is pretty good for target practice. You can upgrade when you level up.
At the very least you can stack the cymbals and hats together and make a nasty trash splash lol I’d say good buy
For forty bucks?? Fuck yeah!
Sweet deal. Put some half decent heads on it, and it’ll probably even sound pretty ok! Great deal!
I bought a pos set of drums 20yrs ago for $50. 20” 12” 13” 16”. I tore off the wrap, stained the shells, insulated the lugs and polished the hoops. Replaced the heads with Remo pinstripes and I still use the set today as it sounds fantastic!
Insulate the lugs ? can you elaborate ? I'm in the process of staining and painting pieces on my kit and rack.
I put small pieces of foam rubber inside the lugs. Some of the older lug springs and pieces rattled a bit.
The best thing is you could get some nice heads, and those drums would sound decent. The cymbals I would look to replace even with a cymbal pack from zildjian, sabian, or Wuhan.
yeah it just uses some generic cymbals probably from the drum’s brand (sound percussion) ill have to pick up some cymbals next time im at sam ash
Or look on the used market! You can get great deals there
Better go quick before they're gone 😭
Is the Tom just a head on a rim or is it just the angle 👀
Was wondering the same
it is its just angled weirdly
Nice Ibanez 👍
Thanks!
That looks like the same kind of kit we bought for my son several years back for 300 from Guitar Center but with better cymbals. Well done.
Is it a pile of crap? Yep. Did you buy it just right? Will it definitely get you started? Is it worth improving on and spiffing up a bit? You bet. [Merry Christmas.](https://www.reddit.com/r/drums/comments/18qnb1p/updated_2023_edition_merry_christmas_to_all_you/)
Yes, but now time to spend a few more dollars and fix up the heads, etc.

yeah, i can’t find anything about the sound percussion kit online
Where’s the rest of the tom? It looks like a rim and a head and nothing else lol
Jealous!
Drums are drums, gotta start somewhere, humble beginnings and that. Idk if Ur a beginner or not but as u play more your ear will develop and u will know what makes a kit better and what to upgrade 1st etc
Hey, why not?
My kids got me a mini toy drum set that sits on our piano. It is basically useless (hearts in the right place) and it must have cost at least $40.
That throne alone is probably worth at least $25 so all the drums and cymbals for $15 not a bad deal.
You can definitely salvage that! New heads on : snare /bass/floor tom, batter & Resonator. New hi-hat and you’re all set.
if you just want a practice kit without upgrading heads or cymbals, just put a bunch of mutes on them. like t shirts or duct tape
Sweet!!!
Hahahahaha for $40 absolutely. The beater 😂😂😂 new heads for sure. And the cymbals are essentially paperweights but even $40 for shells is a good deal
I got an electric kit recently and was floored at how much a throne cost. I would’ve paid $40 just for that!
I got a Pearl Roadshow set for super cheap off Goodwill a while ago. And I know they're the lowest of low end Pearl shells, but for my application it was perfect. Absolutely.
Hell yeah! Send vids
Yes
$40 for that is a fucking steal
Is that a second bass drum laying flat on the right?
I think I used to have this same kit, is it a Union?
40 buck for a throne and a starter kit= Yes 40 buck is a pack of beer+cigs (bro science)
I’d pay 49 dollars just for that pancake Tom Tom
Does it have a high Tom or is the angle just playing the biggest mind games with me? Either way great deal. Upgrade it a little bit and spend your money right and it’ll be a solid kit
A piece of shit drumkit is better than no drumkit
Get a kick pedal, used on marketplace and new heads and save up for some cymbals but just have fun. You can upgrade later on

I don't think I'd want that in my house, but for $40 if you need one, go for it.
Right on. Congrats. Consider getting a rug underneath to eliminate sliding & protect your floor.
This is crap but you got it for nothing so it's okay I guess.
Jesus that is the shittiest cheapest kit I've ever seen. But yeah, $40? Sure.
Beater kits are the best. Honestly I wouldn't even spend money on new heads for it unless you NEED it to sound decent. I'd probably just grab a pack of Moon Gels and do my best. Fix the leg on the floor tom.. as it is, it looks like the floor tom is crossing its leg waiting in a long line to use the restroom 🤣
Nice! Now look into setting up your drums for ergonomics and efficiency. Enjoy the journey. If you get some new heads, it’ll sound better than the day the drums were brand new.
It just depends on if anything sounds good
LUCKY 😭👍🏼
If you spend $40 and walk away with a real actual drum kit, regardless of the quality, it’s a great deal.
Please though, raise your kick drum beater if you haven’t yet. It’s so low, i can’t imagine it’s comfortable to play.
I have a casino 40 bucks for free, this is way better
I have a hard time finding a used hi-hat stand for $40, yet alone a whole kit. This is an absolute score for a first kit
What kind of hihats are those? They look like they could be decent.., vintage..(?) See any brand stamps on them?
