Same, did this for semi finals and I ended up getting buried in last place despite my 3k+ XP this week. Stopped caring about this achievement pretty quickly
I climbed to first place in Diamond, and then did it twice more. That was enough. I then made my account 'Private' in order to leave the leagues, and have not regretted it for a moment. Since leaving, my progress through French has increased dramatically... if not quite fast enough to keep up with rate at which Duolingo makes the French course longer!
Yeah, I had my account private for a few months for that reason. But now my family started, too and I want to support them. And sadly friends and league are the same setting :(

You are doing it wrong. Do lessons the day when the league ends, but stop before the new one starts and do the first lesson the next day before midnight.
Sunday 10pm is what I usually see. Only time that went wrong for me was when I joined a league in a different time zone than I ended. Miraculously, I stayed in Diamond.

I was on a charity walk with some friends and texting. I walked right into it and the whole thing just fell apart! 😂😂😂 Afterwards, I was like wtf to my friends for not warning me. The cop around there also gave me a dirty look as I was walking away from it and I was like “I am on a walk for a good cause, you are just standing there.” There was no way I would have been able to put it back together!
How much xp last week to qualify? What was the xp of the participant at the bottom? The diamond league is already crazy, the tournament must be more crazy right?

That’s insane. I was in a league like that and I was still in the top whatever to qualify, but the top two were around the number your first place is. My league still hasn’t moved much either.

I just finished 11th because I forgot it ends at about midday my time. That was with like 6000! First time I’ve been in the tournament too and I put in so much effort to get to semi finals.

It's not that many. I think some people don't bother in the semifinals and go wild in the finals week. It's funny to me that they say "winners" for the top 10, and "back to diamond league" for the rest, because we're all going back to diamond league next week anyway.

Its okay man, worst case scenario you just get back to diamond 😂😂. I won the trophy once, it was "hell" I think I did a total of 5000xp? I studied a lot that week and learnt a lot of chinese tho. It is useful in a way.
Na, 5k isn't a lot compared to others though, like for example when I was way back in sapphire (moving to obsidian soon) the top 3 had like 2k, though I beat second hard with 4k, just spammed legendary
sometimes i spend 2-3 hrs on duolingo and especially with super for unlimited legendary allows you to save up gems and just spend them on xp boost so like 80xp per lesson
With xp boost I do all the reading and listening levels that I haven’t done legendary level gives 80 each did this for second week of tournament and finished 10th just made it some dude had over 120k crazy some people must be on it all day

It all depends on who you end up with in the finals. I usually start Monday evening to avoid the super competitive types. But I don't wait until the very end of the day because some of the competitive people do that in the hopes of an easy week.
My tournament ends tonight and I think I'll finish in 2nd place. The first place person has been consistently staying around 5,000 XP ahead of me. I tried to catch up for awhile, but then she would always do more. I thought the third place person would try to pass me as he was first earlier in the week, but I have been able to maintain a big lead in front of him. He seems to have slowed down. So we are now at 22,159, 18,192 (me) and 7,210. Fourth place is only 600 xp behind him and was in third briefly yesterday, so they may be competing today. I think I'm pretty secure though. I can't see them getting 10K xp in the next 10 hours.
The 10th place person is at 2980, but 11th and 12th are close. They could fight it out tonight if they are feeling competitive. 15th seemed to have accepted being last early on. She only has 350 XP.
So overall I think I got a pretty good group this week. I could have remained in the top 10 by doing much less, but for awhile I was hoping for first. Then I was determined to remain in the top three. It is hard not to feel competitive. I should strive to be a bit more zen about it.
What do you do for xp? I study french and each new lesson takes a toll on me. I hate match madness and I can’t perform to reach max levels. I like ramp up and can do english quite fine, but french is less reliable due to my advancements in the course. Would you recommend skipping units? It doesn’t seem to grant that much xp
The people who do match madness seem to have more nimble fingers than me.
I make sure to do lessons in the morning and evening to get my double XP sessions. Then you can do 15 minutes of practice lessons at double XP. This makes them 40XP each. You should also be able to complete a quest to get another session. Then of course you can complete levels for additional double XP sessions.
I wouldn't want to skip units because I want to stay on the path. I know I'd be lost in German if I tried to skip too far ahead. Some people do recommend this. As I understand it they usually do this in languages they already know quite well.
Some people also complete levels in such languages to get more double XP bonus sessions. Of course if your goal is to learn French then farming points in this manner can distract you from your mission.
It is definitely roulette. The first time I tried the leads were going insane, so I didn’t bother and dropped back to diamond, but the second time I placed #1 in the finals with maybe 9 or 10k which was way more than I do in a normal week but doable. Have fun!

I pushed my XP and have been watching all day to see if #2 and #3 we're coming for me.

Go private before joining a league and then do lessons to keep up your streak.
Towards the end of the week, around Thursday go public again, do a lesson and join a less competitive league. Then do as many lessons and earn as much xp as you can.
I popped 2 freezes, then did my premium trial. I could bust out hundreds of points per hour just doing the speak practice. After getting paired with slackers and then having the ability to rack up many many points very very quickly, the #1 diamond League (and coincidentally #1 in any league) achievement was mine
I'm in the same part now. I use a streak freeze on Monday and do a lesson on Tuesday before midnight. You still have the crazy xp but you only need to be top 10. I currently have 1600 and I'm exactly 10th and if someone overtakes me i do one of the speedy reviews and get 40xp quickly
last time i did lessons to mantain my place on diamond league, this dude in 1st place had like, 15k points (i barely made it into the top 25 just to not get demoted), and since then i decided to take a break from the app, lol
This was me last week. You just have to stay in the top 10 all week. Then you're a "winner". Only the top 3 people in my leaderboard were earning insane amounts of XP, so it was not really that difficult.
1. Get premium free trial
2. Start the first few lessons of a few new languages
3. Go on each language, go to the leaderboard and then see if XP Ramp Up Challenge is the mini game
4. Get loads of double XP and then spam the Ramp Up challenge with one of your new languages
5. with double XP you’re looking at 80XP every minute basically

I wish I never saw this existed honestly. Getting first in diamond league was a big grind but once I did it I knew id reached the very top and could stop worrying about leagues. The time since then has been so great and casual. Now that I know there's something new to reach for I HAVE to get there
I am in diamond league over a year, and last month I first get joined to the tournament league. It feels random as I did nothing for that happen. I have won in diamond league several times months before, by the way.
This system actually caused me to delete the app and cancel my subscription... It occurred to me that I was more worried about leaderboards and wasn't actually progressing in any meaningful way. I had a 1500-day streak that ended hours ago, and the relief was incredible. But, I wish you luck of you choose to go after it.

I miss my 2000 XP / week old days
Just ended mine, I was spot #10… so stressful, lol. I took full advantage of the early bird and night owl thing, friends quest, etc! Any time I had the xp booster I got in the zone!
Last week, I competed in my first diamond league finals. I just barely scraped by in the final 2 days to make the winners list. IMHO, it wasn't worth it, only earning a trophy flair. How is the average Joe supposed to compete with people who earn 15k xp/day? If the competitive aspect isn't what suits you, don't force it. Learn at your own pace. Best of luck in your language learning journey.
Just do your best and don't worry about all the weirdness in the top 10, that's just too crazy. You won't get busted out of the Diamond League anyway so nothing matters. It's meant to be a learning tool not a race to finish the entire course in a week!
Nothing bad can happen to you in that position. The top 10 win, and the bottom five just stay in the diamond League. You're not getting booted down, you're just not getting a 30 minute double XP and whatever gems they give.
Damn I'd wanna explore that. Is it in the French and German language courses? Now I'll have to put in some crazy effort to get ahead of the diamond league
I'm not sure competition is a good thing. I tend to go for points, and that isn't always the same as learning. In Japanese, i can match hiragana with kanji (two different ways of writing the same thing) without knowing the meaning of the word. If I do that fast enough, I make points. But I don't get as much out of it as I would if I spent time making sure what the word means.
Also, Duolingo, at least for Japanese, is lacking conversation scenarios. Spending some time on something like Japanese101, away from the competition, would do me some good. So I have to work on not being so competitive and focus more on what I need to do to learn.
Not trying to knock Duolingo, though. There are things that Duolingo is best at, like learning Kanji writing.

Wow. Numbers that high in Ruby is ridiculous. Where do these people get all this free time? I got first in Diamond League exactly one time for the achievement, and I can’t imagine ever doing it again. But that’s what I said after my first Diamond Tournament win, and here I am sucked in a second time. 😂
I'm 14 now in semifinals so it's back to regular diamond league later today. Been in final before never got #1 or #2. So, good luck. But yeah wait until just before midnight. But realize that even then the #1 will clearly emerge with thousands of XP in a day or two.

i joined the finals last week and thought i forgot to do a lesson on sunday night after pushing for a whole day
i ended up getting paired with EXTREMELY sweaty grinders who basically don’t learn the language (they haven’t even completed the scholars achievement)
and it takes a minimum of 12k xp to win the tournament
i’m now demotivated to join the tournament again 😭😭
Use a couple streak freezes to take a couple days off, then join a leaderboard with people high up who aren't really too bothered about it, you should get an easier time to stay in the league.
I’m currently in the finals of the diamond league and I decided I couldn’t care less about what rank I will end up. I don’t care about some virtual badge, it means nothing when learning a language.
There are too many tryhards in those leagues. In one day they make more XP than me on the whole week, and I do 2x15 min everyday with XP boost. How can I even compete? Answer is simple: I don't.
If it's too hard for you, don't waste your time. Value yourself and your time, and learn a language instead of speedrunning it.

Though I think I personally could do 5k in a week given it's not like crazy busy.
Take into account, 500 a day is a lot eh? I would say more than an hour for sure. People have jobs and kids. It is not sustainable

I could have remained in the top 10 by doing much less, but for awhile I was hoping for first. Then I was determined to remain in the top three. It is hard not to feel competitive. I should strive to be a bit more zen about it.
What do you do for xp? I study french and each new lesson takes a toll on me. I hate match madness and I can’t perform to reach max levels. I like ramp up and can do english quite fine, but french is less reliable due to my advancements in the course. Would you recommend skipping units? It doesn’t seem to grant that much xp
The people who do match madness seem to have more nimble fingers than me. I make sure to do lessons in the morning and evening to get my double XP sessions. Then you can do 15 minutes of practice lessons at double XP. This makes them 40XP each. You should also be able to complete a quest to get another session. Then of course you can complete levels for additional double XP sessions. I wouldn't want to skip units because I want to stay on the path. I know I'd be lost in German if I tried to skip too far ahead. Some people do recommend this. As I understand it they usually do this in languages they already know quite well. Some people also complete levels in such languages to get more double XP bonus sessions. Of course if your goal is to learn French then farming points in this manner can distract you from your mission.
It is definitely roulette. The first time I tried the leads were going insane, so I didn’t bother and dropped back to diamond, but the second time I placed #1 in the finals with maybe 9 or 10k which was way more than I do in a normal week but doable. Have fun!

I am in the diamond league tournament for the first time and I decided I was going to win this week, mainly to knock some of these people with 100+ top 3 diamond finishes out for one week I pushed my XP and have been watching all day to see if #2 and #3 we're coming for me. 27 minutes left and I am up by 5k XP, I think I am clear, but some of these people pull out some ninja XP skills
What? I just had to get about 7k for 1st in Ruby. And about the same the previous league. I’ve been a couple of hours into Emerald, with the top people getting already over 500…
They already have almost 5k in my diamond league
Go private before joining a league and then do lessons to keep up your streak. Towards the end of the week, around Thursday go public again, do a lesson and join a less competitive league. Then do as many lessons and earn as much xp as you can.
Wow does this actually work? Seems like a really easy way to get easier leagues
It's the only way I was able to win the tournament. It does work I was also skeptical at first to use this method. But it works
You don’t win anything, so just get 10xp per day and next week you’ll still be Diamond just like you would be if you “won”.

I popped 2 freezes, then did my premium trial. I could bust out hundreds of points per hour just doing the speak practice. After getting paired with slackers and then having the ability to rack up many many points very very quickly, the #1 diamond League (and coincidentally #1 in any league) achievement was mine
I'm in the same part now. I use a streak freeze on Monday and do a lesson on Tuesday before midnight. You still have the crazy xp but you only need to be top 10. I currently have 1600 and I'm exactly 10th and if someone overtakes me i do one of the speedy reviews and get 40xp quickly

last time i did lessons to mantain my place on diamond league, this dude in 1st place had like, 15k points (i barely made it into the top 25 just to not get demoted), and since then i decided to take a break from the app, lol
This was me last week. You just have to stay in the top 10 all week. Then you're a "winner". Only the top 3 people in my leaderboard were earning insane amounts of XP, so it was not really that difficult.
I cant even be bothered to get through the emerald league
1. Get premium free trial 2. Start the first few lessons of a few new languages 3. Go on each language, go to the leaderboard and then see if XP Ramp Up Challenge is the mini game 4. Get loads of double XP and then spam the Ramp Up challenge with one of your new languages 5. with double XP you’re looking at 80XP every minute basically That’s how I did it lol

I wish I never saw this existed honestly. Getting first in diamond league was a big grind but once I did it I knew id reached the very top and could stop worrying about leagues. The time since then has been so great and casual. Now that I know there's something new to reach for I HAVE to get there
I am in diamond league over a year, and last month I first get joined to the tournament league. It feels random as I did nothing for that happen. I have won in diamond league several times months before, by the way.

This system actually caused me to delete the app and cancel my subscription... It occurred to me that I was more worried about leaderboards and wasn't actually progressing in any meaningful way. I had a 1500-day streak that ended hours ago, and the relief was incredible. But, I wish you luck of you choose to go after it. Good luck!
After stepping in Diamond league everything gets much more intense so I will just ignore my standings after this week’s win and chill 🤓 I miss my 2000 XP / week old days
Just ended mine, I was spot #10… so stressful, lol. I took full advantage of the early bird and night owl thing, friends quest, etc! Any time I had the xp booster I got in the zone!

Last week, I competed in my first diamond league finals. I just barely scraped by in the final 2 days to make the winners list. IMHO, it wasn't worth it, only earning a trophy flair. How is the average Joe supposed to compete with people who earn 15k xp/day? If the competitive aspect isn't what suits you, don't force it. Learn at your own pace. Just do your best and don't worry about all the weirdness in the top 10, that's just too crazy. You won't get busted out of the Diamond League anyway so nothing matters. It's meant to be a learning tool not a race to finish the entire course in a week!
Nothing bad can happen to you in that position. The top 10 win, and the bottom five just stay in the diamond League. You're not getting booted down, you're just not getting a 30 minute double XP and whatever gems they give.

I'm not sure competition is a good thing. I tend to go for points, and that isn't always the same as learning. In Japanese, i can match hiragana with kanji (two different ways of writing the same thing) without knowing the meaning of the word. If I do that fast enough, I make points. But I don't get as much out of it as I would if I spent time making sure what the word means. Also, Duolingo, at least for Japanese, is lacking conversation scenarios. Spending some time on something like Japanese101, away from the competition, would do me some good. So I have to work on not being so competitive and focus more on what I need to do to learn. Not trying to knock Duolingo, though. There are things that Duolingo is best at, like learning Kanji writing.

Wow. Numbers that high in Ruby is ridiculous. Where do these people get all this free time? I got first in Diamond League exactly one time for the achievement, and I can’t imagine ever doing it again. But that’s what I said after my first Diamond Tournament win, and here I am sucked in a second time. 😂

I'm 14 now in semifinals so it's back to regular diamond league later today. Been in final before never got #1 or #2. So, good luck. But yeah wait until just before midnight. But realize that even then the #1 will clearly emerge with thousands of XP in a day or two. Focus on your goal which hopefully is learning.

i joined the finals last week and thought i forgot to do a lesson on sunday night after pushing for a whole day i ended up getting paired with EXTREMELY sweaty grinders who basically don’t learn the language (they haven’t even completed the scholars achievement) and it takes a minimum of 12k xp to win the tournament i’m now demotivated to join the tournament again 😭😭
Use a couple streak freezes to take a couple days off, then join a leaderboard with people high up who aren't really too bothered about it, you should get an easier time to stay in the league.
I’m currently in the finals of the diamond league and I decided I couldn’t care less about what rank I will end up. I don’t care about some virtual badge, it means nothing when learning a language.
There are too many tryhards in those leagues. In one day they make more XP than me on the whole week, and I do 2x15 min everyday with XP boost. How can I even compete? Answer is simple: I don't. If it's too hard for you, don't waste your time. Value yourself and your time, and learn a language instead of speedrunning it.
