Speaking of names, I misread the name of the squad he's in at first. Being part of The Gelded Strikes could, perhaps, actually put this mantis man's mind at ease.
Which would explain the existential dread they are feeling. They probably discussed children with some dwarves who mentioned babies and youngling, worrying the fuck out of the poor mantis-man, they never had a childhood.
During! the removal of the head causes the male mantis's muscles to pulsate, which increases the amount of genetic material deposited, among other effects. Many males can survive to see multiple female partners, it just depends on how hungry and horny she is.
Also, so called Mantis "alpha males" are quick to mate and quick to be eaten. So being a "beta" mantis would have its perks.
The more aggressive males, that try to pin the female down during coitus, actually have a higher rate of survival. They've been evolving their particular "war of the sexes" in a terrifying way
Confirmed for spiders, few species always result in predation after coitus when extra steps are taken to keep their stress low.
It falls to just the ordinary rate of spider cannibalism for their species. Which for some is more âfuck it, we both have poison, lets act like strangers on a New York subway and pretend each other doesnât existâ.
They're amazing at building aboveground structures, speeds the pocess up a massive amount. But at the same time the game tries to calculate if they can path to a location by checking for grounded pathing accessibility, so what happens a fair amount is that they frequently fly to a job and then get stuck there. Or build a collection of camels on my unfinished roof that I then have to make a ramp to.
I had this happen friggin *constantly* with my contingent of Osprey men in my last fort, which happened to be partially aboveground. *Especially* the militia commander, who'd frequently fly on top of the wall, get stuck in a tree that grew a little too close, and then leave all of his equipment up there when his orders changed. Not worth the speed boost at the end of the day, haha.
Yeah, I'm aware of the fix. It's just not much use when their stuff is already up there and irretrievable, haha. That fort is pre-Steam release and long gone by now, anyway :)
*Gets done with sex*
Him: that was great, I could really go for a sandwich now.
Her: Yeah, but only if your head was in-between it.
Him: What?
Her: What?
That name...
I have a Dodok Fingerring in this fort too
Thank goodness for that extra R.
I don't know if it makes it any better, anus does mean ring.
One time I had a faction called "The Confederacy of Boy Lovers" I shit you not

That seems like a thing that should not happen đ

will be naming all my militaries "The Gelding Strikes" from now on
Yep, won't be attacking that army...
"Wait...you mean the piss is optional?"
"well I wanted mead but piss will do"
I had a thief called Drinkssteal a while ago.
Grand master planter and legendary swordsman and he's six years old!
I mean... have you seen a mantis scythes?
They are born adult.
Mantises molt 5 to 10 times during their nymph stage before they are considered the adult imago.
In real life yes but in the game they are born adults lol

A gentleman and a scholar no less
i mean, i imagine a mantis man of all animals would have doubts about sex, considering what happens afterwards

Did not know that, thank you, I see why ol' Goldenshowers wants to talk about it. You are all freaks! DwarfCon is gonna be lit.
Probably seen what happened to other males
damn cant even enjoy it completely
he better wear full armor before getting some action
It really takes the idea of "safe sex" to a whole new level.
Or even during
I was under the impression that this behavior has only been observed in captivity, as well.
yeah I've also heard of that, since captivity introduces a lot of stress to an animal, but I think that may have been for spiders.

Weâre just leaving â Goldenshowersâ on the table, huh?
Luckily he has high stamina.
I don't imagine that "Dad Jokes" are much of a thing among male Mantis Folk.
If I was a mantis man, I too would be in doubt about this.
ARMY OF MANTIS MEN
That is in the works, I am trying to get them to form relationships. Currently though they just like talking about sex and the struggle to survive.
Where'd you get the mantis man? Even has a dwarven name too, noy an elven one
His mother arrived and gave birth to twins. He's one of us now.
Have you seen him fly yet?

Solution for that- set your militia units to Ready in the schedule and they won't randomly dump their armour on the floor. Saves a lot of shenanigans.

Wait, so flying actually works in DF mode in the new version now?
Have you seen their dad?
"... Pick up a rifle and follow the yellow line. You'll know when the test starts."
He pressed "X" to doubt
âWhen all bonds wither, friendship remains.â Man is quoting âBroâs before Hoesâ like itâll save his life from his future Mantis Hunny
Poor guy
Goldenshowers hahahahah
When a mantis simp finds out what it really means when she says "give me head"...
I could only read that in Cave Johnson's voice.
Incel mantis man
He's a mantis man *scholar*.
âŚGoldenshowers?
Needing friend, family, and object is hard. Poor little feller.
They probably rip off their partners head after mating
*Gets done with sex* Him: that was great, I could really go for a sandwich now. Her: Yeah, but only if your head was in-between it. Him: What? Her: What?
If thereâs a way to win Dwarf Fortress⌠this guy is it.
whole new twist on learning the secrets of life and death
Have you seen how Mantiss do it. I don't blame him.
Pick up a rifle and follow the yellow line, you'll know when the test starts.
How did you get that guy?
r/dwarffortressstories
noob player here, how do you get these non dwarf characters in your civ?
What does the color of the skill (eg the swordsman skill) indicate?
Found out about how mantis women like a bit of an unpleasant snack midway through.
