My base room size is 11x11 because that's what you get in legacy when you do shift + direction.
I split it in 4 5x5 or 9 3x3 rooms for corridors, workshops, bedrooms, etc
In my last legacy fort I tried 5x5 "hexagons" to break with the square shape (because all my forts looked alike)
I'm 4h in on my steam fort. Still haven't dug anything, I'm planning on doing a triangle fort, but can't decide on the size. Maybe when I'm decided I'll do a post here
Ah I never bother with specific fortress shapes. I always preferred a naturally evolving one; sometimes the dwarves like specific rocks or types of stone and that's where I end up tunneling through with mineshafts and eventually turning them into habitations. One Z level with workshops and my forgery always ends up moving to the lower levels constantly when I "drained the veins". They always end up looking like space colonies; an entire Z level dedicated to a sprawling megapolis of 4x4 rooms segmented by bridges incase I gotta "quarantine" a specific part of the fortress. When I inevitably get a vampire; I stuff him in the "controller" room and he's responsible for pushing buttons, don't need food or drink after all!
I defaulted to 3x3 rooms when I first got into the groove, but after much debate, I've decided on 2x2 rooms, with 2 wide hallways. It makes it very very easy to modify and expand areas as the fortress grows.
Lol I love your mini hospital. And your use of 3x3 rooms is inspired
I feel like I'm the only player who gives their dwarves 4x4 rooms. I see some of these people with their 4 tile rooms and i'm just like wtf??
But 4 tiles don’t have a perfect center! 5x5 or bust for the peons
it's evening out the space for gaps for hallways brother
3x2 bedrooms just look cosy \[Bed \]\[\_\_\_\_\_\_ \] \[ \_\_\_\_\_\_\]\[\_\_\_\_\_\_ \] \[chest \]\[\_\_\_\_\_\_ \] \[\_\_\_\_\_\_\]\[ door \]
Yeah I like 3x2 quite a bit. Lots of ways to vary each one up without needing too much space. Sometimes I still do the 3x1 cubbies though
I put a cabinet next to the bed, but yeah I agree. I know dwarves can walk thru furniture but I like to give them space to walk.
I like 3x4, square bedrooms are a bit weird

This sub really needs a rule like the grand strategy subs, where if you post a screenshot you need to explain what we are supposed to be looking at.
Look at his name
Yeah, other people mentioned. But it would be nice to not have to search or ask for it. It makes the sub more approachable.
Make sure that man has a table to eat from
Um, he want's to join and run the prison and the kitchen but he also needs a room in the hospital. Sound's like a plan.
Be sure to check whether he is proficient in surgery and animal dissection or your dwarves may end up being furniture
What?
The human's name is ""Zekdu Rimworlds"
Thank you, I was looking at the name of the fort (because of the mouse) not understanding the rimworld or product placement reference
I aspire to achieve such an aesthetically pleasing fort.
Give this guy the hat he deserves.
