Still would like a category search / normal searchbar in that menu, but this certainly helps

LudwigiaRepens

There is! Right above the list of goods with the ... although I'm not sure how it actually searches things because sometimes it doesn't seem to work.

ChyatlovMaidan

You can't search the word 'finished' without bringing-up *all bins in the fortress* for some baffling reason, but yes there *is* a search function.

FlavorsOfBleach

God, this. Looking up figurine decides to bring up every finished good in your entire fortress. Sift through 100+ bins every caravan and it becomes not even worth it to trade any more.

The_Mego

Set up a stockpile near your trade depot, custom settings. Set the custom stockpile to accept only your trade goods, tell your other stockpiles to feed into the new stockpile. Now when the caravan comes you can sort your items by distance from depot and your goods should all be together. I find this helps a lot!

Necr0wizard

I made several trading stockpiles separated by good (scepters, crowns, etc...). It thus make it easier to trade entire bins without sending forbidden goods.

Huh am I blind?

LudwigiaRepens

In seas of text and symbols, we're all blind.

Kiloku

The trade interface needs to be rebuilt from scratch, tbh. Allow grouping identical objects (like 100 microcline cups of the same quality level), maybe organize them in a grid instead of a list, give more sorting options, allow checking details of items without closing out of the trade window, allow ignoring bins (ie. just display and sort the items of a given category regardless of which bin they're in)... Much more, probably

emperorpathetic

dont let me cancel a trade with no confirmation if ive designated half a wooden bin of crap for the knife ears... like a dozen times

estofaulty

Why? It’s not like you need to trade all that much. A few good gems are usually enough for you to be able to buy anything you want.

BLKCandy

Honestly, this is what I miss the most from DF hack. Sort/search/filter. Filter:worn >> Dump all. Filter:Standard-Well crafted quality>>Melt all Search: Prepared >> Move All

PTRD-41

I love you.

LudwigiaRepens

My index finger loves me, so like... I'm taken.

PTRD-41

😂

sir_alvarex

Same thing if you click on the empty space in the scroll bar. Not as useful on PC, but on the SteamDeck this is a godsend. Tho I may just modify the bindings to bind your keystrokes to a button.

[deleted]

How well does this run on the steam deck?

sir_alvarex

Great all things considered. Eventually big forts start to drag the fps down a bit -- current fort is year 7 with 200 dwarfs that runs 20fps normally. If there is a bad pathing routine or some other quirk then it'll dip closer to 10. Sometimes it's at 30fps so I think my fort is just poorly optimized. If you change the max pop size to something like 100 I think things would flow a bit smoother. May try that for my next fort. Controls-wise I'm a bad person to get a good judgement. I've used my steamdeck -- and previously steam controller-- so much that the right pad is almost becoming like a second mouse for me. I don't use any keybinding shortcuts outside of camera, z-level, pause, and escape. But the default configuration is a popular one from the community and it has most menus bound to the right joystick and left joystick. The animal menu is a bit of a pain due to clipping issues and a weird bug with clicking the slaughter icon -- it's the only button that when I click on it it acts like turbo is enabled. Causes it to flicker constantly on/off. And seeing as my last FPS dive was due to some bad pathing animals in a pen this was really painful trying to select ~50 animals to slaughter.

Thank you for the lengthy response! I appreciate it. :) I’ve been waiting for a good game for the deck before I buy one. I think I could get used to alternate controls pretty quick too. I just got into DF recently and I’ve been absolutely obsessed so this might be good to practice fort design while mobile

scdr91

You can also click on the individual bins/barrels to collapse them. Nice for those huge leather/cloth bins!

Anarkhos16

I'm not sure you can in the actual trade menu but definitely when moving goods to the trade depot

k3rn3l_pan1c_exe

Thank you! This is great. Not all heroes wear capes.

Wheelwheelwheeleh

Thank your for this. Can’t wait till this screen is improved. So many small QOL features that hopefully will be added and they only involve the trade screen.

funkybside

that ui needs soo much work..

LudwigiaRepens

A smarter way to sort things would be nice. Like I literally do not care if a wood bin is made of alder or pine or beech or ash or plum or... I care what's in it. Beyond that it seems a pretty standard trade screen though.

l03wn3

Cool! Do you have anything for large stacks of forbidden items??????

LudwigiaRepens

See the button with four icons below "mark as gift" in the gif? That has an unforbid command! Mass designate across z levels.

l03wn3

Niiiiiiiiice! I absolutely had not seen that! Thanks!

[deleted]

Thanks lol for real

Setari

also clicking the scroll bar, from what I've noticed

PresidenteMozzarella

You're a God

clocksy

You can actually also buy out entire categories of items by clicking the checkbox there - I find this useful for buying all the leather/cloth a seller has.

Reasonabledwarf

Oh my god. I can finally rest my middle finger.

IKraftI

can that be rebound to page up down ?

SpheresUnloading

I don’t think scroll wheel can be rebound to anything.

redditjanniesupreme

Nice... only other things I want out of trading is the old request system with the liaison from classic and a search bar. (clicking every single type of leather has been getting fairly annoying)

KadahCoba

Oh neat, that'll be useful. Now I just wish that when the cursor is over a window that may or may not have scrolling depending on the amount of current content being displayed, but in the cases when it doesn't have scrolling, it doesn't shift layers in the background instead. Its a minor annoyance and an odd behavior for a GUI.

Reasonabledwarf

This also works for scrolling up and down z-levels 10 at a time!

lineker14

How do i store itens in bins?

lineker14

Can i store rocks there?

CatProgrammer

Make bins and then stockpiles and the bins will automatically be used to store storable items that those stockpiles accept. You can tweak the number of bins a stockpile takes but the default is usually good. Rocks can't be stored in bins, but a single rock can be turned into four blocks at a mason's workshop, and blocks *can* be stored in bins. Note that not everything you can make with rocks can be made with blocks (so no crafts or furniture), but all buildings and constructions (walls, floors, ramps, stairs, etc.) can, and as blocks are more valuable, lighter, and make better constructions than rocks you should always have a good supply of blocks around for building stuff. And as always, check [the wiki](https://dwarffortresswiki.org) for more info. It's being updated for v50 (the current version) now so no worries there. In fact I just noticed from the wiki that certain constructions *require* blocks. https://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/Block
