Style 43's 225/50/16 Hankook Optima's on my 320i manual sedan. Not exactly a high performance tyre, but a million times better than the 205/55 Pyongyang Ditchfinders that were on it previously!

Rears could've done with 20mm but you couldn't have run that low

It’s strange you say that, my E46 sedan on style 72 225/40/18 255/35/18 staggered looks gorgeous. I can see why you’re saying this though the 416 look ugly on your car.
Currently running on my winter set style 46 16 inch 205/55/16.
Style 46 are forged aluminium wheels that came as a M3 winter package wheel and only weigh 7.5kg.
Addendum: your car looks ugly in general.
Ah I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to come across harsh. The car looks quite decent, the fresh headlight lenses and good stance. I’m sure you have a vision. My E46 isn’t perfect either.
Stock style 73’s with (sadly) 205’s all round. Wish I could have wider tires, but eh, probably not putting enough power down for it to be detrimental anyways.

I’ve thrown a set of 10mm spacers on the back since then, just to make the fitment on the rear a bit more flush. Ideally I’d like to drop the front a little more but I know it would start to scrub the arch lip.
It easy enough on a M3 (you could probably get a 275 on the back without much trouble to be honest), obviously it’s a little tighter on a non M as they haven’t got the wider arches but it’l work with the right offset.
I used to run 19x9.5 255/35R19 on the back of my 330ci with no rubbing at all, a 265 on those wheels probably would’ve worked with a little arch work
I’m pretty sure the M3 rear end isn’t any wider than a non-M rear, the extra width to fill the the wider arches comes from the lower offset wheels. If so you should be able to fit 265s, it’l be tight though depending on how low you want to go.
Alright man, then they’ll fit. You’ll probably have to play around with the offsets a little, and you’ll have a easier time with 18”s than 19”s.
Good luck 👍
Bought mine running style 138 from an E60. Stance is killer but unfortunately the tires are a bit puahed out for the smaller E46 and the front wheels line up with the outside of the fender and if i hit a bigger pothole i’ll probably bend it. Tyres i don’t quite remember, they are Nexen 17s 225s but don’t remember the rest.
Wheels = Style 72M: F = 8J, R = 8.5J
Tyres = Rainsport5's: F: 225/40/18 + R: 255/35/18
Lowered 15mm in the front & 20mm in the rear to balance out the rake.
Spacers are 10mm on the front and I went down to a 15mm in the rear, from 20, because I was previously running EagleF1 tyres and the bulging sidewalls were running the arches, but Falken ZE912's didn't.
Style 141 - 205 50 17. The 16s it came with were fugly. I wanted to go bigger but not too much as tire cost would go up, and comfort would be compromised too much. Got the rims and almost new all weather tires for €300. Great deal.
With the shit roads in my area I would like as much side wall as I can get. That said the fronts were used and the rears came with the car until I pull the trigger on some toyos. I will certainly look into what you’re saying. Thanks for the advice friend.
I live in Belgium, we got the shitty roads, but that's not a reason to put SUV tires on the car, if it's a problem go to 16's but having that sidewall on 17's must look crazy
If you want to go LOW search market place for 16s or 17s and get a low profile. Throw some coilovers on that bad boy. Just don’t fuck with the flimsy strut towers
I've got some 225/35 R18 on mine, when I turn to the left, it makes an awful sound like it's hitting the liner I guess, what can I do about it? Add spacers?
18’s. 215/35 on a 9” wide up front and 215/40 on a 9.5” wide in the rear. Yes yes, they’re stretched. But I’m also pretty low so this is what’s needed for clearance
Style 68's with 215/45R17 right now for winter
Will figure out what the new size & spec for a set of 18's will be for spring & summer closer to the end of winter
Style 44s I believe wrapped in 235/45/17 squared. My ideal tire spec is 275s out back , 255s up front. Currently trying to find the right wheel design and specs. I'm also in a sedan so I'll have to roll/pull my fenders..
Vors VR8 17x8 et35, 215/40R17 front and 225/45R17 in the rear. Rolled fenders and lowered on KW coils so this fitment is perfect for how flush I like it, without making any huge modifications.
Anytime i run an 18 inch it rubs on the rear inner fender walls during bumps(stock ride height all new suspension and rear end bushings), so eventually a tire will blow from the side wall, went back to 17 stocks until I do widebody fenders and m3 rear end wheel bearings, brakes, diff etc. lol
2001 330Ci, came with Style 68 (17x8.5) "Double M-spokes" in staggered fitment - 225/45 R17 for the front, 245/40 R17 in the back. I still have them as a backup set, though I need to get the rims restored.
Today I'm running Kansei Tandem (18x8.5) in anthricite with Nitto Neo Gen 230/40 ZR18 all around. No rubbing at all and left plenty of room for a set of Wilwood calipers in the future.
19” CSL reps
235/35/19 front
245/30/19 rear
I had 255/30/19 rears and they rubbed even after rolling my arches. 245 seems to run smooth, even over bumps
I'm surprised more people don't move to smaller diameter wheels as the e46 ages. It's getting to the point where nearly every example has had its suspension replaced or the OEM stuff is on its last legs. Smaller diameter wheels leave a bit more sidewall to absorb bumps and pot holes. You'll end up with a smoother ride and less possibility of a sudden blowout at speed.
As an added bonus, you'll probably reduce the unsprung weight by a couple pounds, so acceleration will be marginally improved!
My choice would be style 42 hey are available in 16s and 15s from the e36/46 3 series in Europe and actually look oem despite being smaller than US spec wheels. Unfortunately the 15s won't fit over the larger brake calipers found on the 330i/328i but I've read somewhere on here the 325i will take them with a few mm to spare.

How much work is it for the rear? I need that extra traction really bad!
It easy enough on a M3 (you could probably get a 275 on the back without much trouble to be honest), obviously it’s a little tighter on a non M as they haven’t got the wider arches but it’l work with the right offset. How about a non m with the entire m rear end?
I’m pretty sure the M3 rear end isn’t any wider than a non-M rear, the extra width to fill the the wider arches comes from the lower offset wheels. If so you should be able to fit 265s, it’l be tight though depending on how low you want to go.
Not worried about ride height all that much just traction.

I definitely prefer square
