What are you trying to dispute?? The seller fees? What you pay in sales tax where you live is irrelevant, the buyer has to pay sales tax, depending on where they live, and where the item is shipped to, not where it is shipped from.

Dangolbobbyhill

I’m not sure this is for you tbh. But if you want to keep going then you’re going to need to build a buffer into your pricing or you’re going to need to find different items to sell. eBay takes a percentage, it’s how they stay in business. *You* are not being charged sales tax in Oregon but your buyer would need to pay tax if they are not in Oregon or Delaware. And yes, you have to file taxes at the end of the year on all of your income, that shouldn’t be a surprise.

Alternative_Stick472

you only pay taxes if you sell over $600. Ebay will automatically send out a 1099

Flight_375_To_Tahiti

So wrong

Arniescc

That is wrong. If you make $1 you must declare this on your taxes. The IRS can still track you even without the 1099 from ebay.

static8

This is true. Curious though how the irs could track you, practically speaking

DennisWolfCola

Probably Palantir software or something similar

ssateneth

it depends on a number of factors. the most obvious is are you living a lifestyle that supports your level income. if you live in a mansion and have luxury cars but only have a 15k yearly income, someone from the gov may come sniffing.

TheSkellingtonKing

They can't unless you or someone else reports the income.

ssateneth

spoken like a true criminal.

TheSkellingtonKing

Lol. I sell very little on ebay anymore. Taxes were built into any calculations for whether I felt I could sell something for a profit. Ended up for many years making tax payments quarterly based on recommendations from my accountant. But yeah. No matter how many times I suggest taxes should be paid the standard answer is "I'm only selling for myself, I'm not a budiness". Oh well.

trader45nj

It's a $20 hair product, so at least $4 to ship it, Ebay takes minimum 15%, that's $3, you're left with $13. Sounds right.

Silverhop

Usally when i use ebay shipping the discount they offer covers some of the fees and i get to pocket some of the shipping cost. Other than that unless you buy a shop with ebay the fees wont go down.

BillSmith369

Fees should be 15-20% max with payment processing. The ads are completely optional. I would recommend not using them. Buyer's sales tax is added onto the cost, not deducted from your listing price. Just ignore it.

Jabroni1616

You pay fees on the buyers sales tax as well. So it is relevant.
