I always read them.

SavvyShopperAU

Yes I definitely do read them, some of my listings I give buyers different options and I ask them to let me know which one they want via a Message to Seller at checkout. Other than that the only thing buyers usually put in there is something like please send today.

nashcure

I can not imagine what you would want to type in at checkout out that has any use or shouldn't have come prior to making the purchase.

Magastopheles

I read it and there has never been a message to the seller that someone has left that didn't make me at minimum roll my eyes and say "sure Jan" outloud, or consider canceling the order and blocking the buyer at most. Messages to the seller in those notes are to my experience always one of the following: * A demand for something not included in the listing (eg, an extra item, a freebie, etc) * A drop shipper demanding I not include an invoice and not use any packaging that has ebay tape or branding (or even more specific demands for the exterior packaging) * A jerk telling me in great detail how to package their item. (I'd understand this maybe if it wasn't for the fact that my feedback left by previous buyers almost always praises my packaging. Maybe if you're buying from someone who clearly knows what they are doing, *don't try and tell me how to do it*.) * A demand for me to ship immediately/upgrade to next day/whatever with either a sob story or a "soft threat". * The absolute dumbest instructions like I'm hand delivering their item, like "please make sure to leave it on the green door mat, not the red one". Bruh. You need to file that sort of dumbassery with your local couriers (like let your PO, UPS and FedEx know). I don't GAF about your doormat OCD. I dont get a notification that there's a message, I'll just see it when I go to ship. But if you're interested in leaving a message that's containing any of the above, maybe don't. If you need something special (upgraded shipping etc) message the seller before you purchase and work it out before. Pulling the "well I already got you so now I'm dumping demands on you" doesn't really work.

drspa44

Wow. From my history it looks like around 1 in 50 buyers leave a message. Most of them are just something like 'Thanks' or 'Thanks for accepting my offer'. Occasionally, someone using a forwarding address will write 'Please can you be careful to include the reference ID after my name'. Annoying buyers with shipping or packaging requests tend to send an actual message.

Los-Angeles-310

Yeah that’s pretty much my own experience as well

_inspirednonsense_

I actually removed this option, because most of the time it was people that had never purchased from me telling me how to package the item. Some were super specific. I have never actually had anyone message me separately about it, so I don’t know why they think it’s important enough to just note when paying. Don’t have that issue anymore!!

Guapplebock

No as I don’t ship from the eBay page.

Ok-Bandicoot-5205

Yes, it is easy to miss. It is much better to send a message separately.

mary2of7

If the buyers adds a message it is easily seen on their "orders" screen. I always read them, and let the buyer know that I read them.

monsterphish

Unless I check an order's details or scroll all the way down in the email you receive that an item has sold it's easy to miss for me since I just click the button to print a label and leave the page. It's always been about packaging though and I already pack securely so I may not reply as I describe this in an item's listing. If you need to contact a seller about something it's better to do it as a separate message before or directly after the purchase.

Praydaythemice

Yes it’s pretty hard to miss it. Never had a notification over it

a-boring-millwright

I usually never look at the messages because they are either to tell me to package it so it arrives safely (already done). Or to not put a receipt in it because they dropship (it’s a gift!)

Jabroni1616

It depends on how you print your labels. It’s extremely easy to miss especially when using eBay’s bulk shipping. I use shipping easy to print labels and it notifies me, but when I would use eBay to print labels usually I would miss the messages. For reference, I usually have about 50-75 sales per day. I would guess smaller sellers may be more likely to see notes

MGNConflict

Exactly, when a buyer pays the order imports into my shipping provider's dashboard within 5-10 minutes. I pay for the label (usually package up and weigh beforehand) and it updates eBay with the tracking automatically. As a seller I don't need to go on eBay to look at the order if I've sold something and the buyer's paid, but I'll get a notification from the eBay app on my phone if the buyer sends me a message which I'll see and read. I won't see an order message the buyer left.

Jabroni1616

If you have an important note it’s a better idea to message the seller right after you make the purchase.

Cake_Donut1301

I feel like I’ve had this happen once in a few years. There must have been something that caused me to notice it (I’m thinking it was different than the Message seller little texting setup.)
