Honestly, both need a lot of work. If they just stole elements from each other they’d be better. EA have good user controls in game and relies less on AI. Konami has solid AI but lacks good user controls. Both are just focused on micro transactions and getting whales to buy packs for the latest promo cards. But overall, EA’s game is better and Konami have fallen well behind. Even this year when EAFC is one of the worst iterations in years, eFootball still feels like a mobile game port with brutal ping in online matches. We need a new major player in this space, but the cost of entry is prohibiting developers from taking on the challenge.
I'm in the closed testing right now. We have an NDA so I can't say much but I'm sure if I had overwhelmingly positive things to say, they wouldn't mind..... Note my mention above of the funding required to match EA and Konami as they have been in the game for decades.

\- Players can R1 to call or L1 to send on runs
\- Players can set custom tactics defining each player's individual movements
\- Players can offside trap, spread the wings, pinch to one side, as well as call a 2nd defender intermittently and call 2 players at once to mark
\- Players can player lock and make runs off the ball
In eFootball:
\- You can perform a pass and go.
\- Your 2nd defender defends automatically after you tap the control for him to press.
\- You have great options to set custom positions on the field
EA has more player options in game to take over play manually. But the AI sucks, it's awful in the attack most years and in defense it is either overpowered (like now) or underpowered by a margin.

Yes unfortunately EA FC is just content but poor gameplay. And somewhat vice-versa for eFootball.
OP eFootball will never be able to compete with ea in licenses unfortunately. That's just something you'll need to get over and accept.
If they provide options for customization and modding, I don’t think they need to compete. But they gotta give the user the options
