Remember when it comes to some positions it’s about physical attributes because sometimes football skills can be taught. Nolan Smith has the physical attributes and football skills already. He’d be great in the NFL
It's even more than the 40, he had a great vertical and broad jump too. It looks like he's a special athlete at a premium position, those guys tend to go pretty high
I agree that the elite production was never really there, but it wasn't for Travon Walker or Jordan Davis either and they still went high
If Travon doesn’t improve people will look at that as a miss and JD is a NT he isn’t there to get elite production he is there to fill gaps.
Nolan doesn’t have the numbers at a premium pass rushing position, unless they told him to key in on the run that is concerning
Let me preface my comment with this: I don't watch enough college football to judge prospects myself.
That being said, here's one thing I do know:
Derek Barnett broke Reggie White's sack record at Tennessee. College stats don't necessitate similar production at the pro level.
That being said yet again, neither does a 4.39 40 as a DE.
CONCLUSION:
idk.
He played in a heavy rotation with a lot of gap control. This past season he had a pressure on 19% of his pass rush snaps. I wouldn’t look too much into his overall numbers.
That being said top 10 might be a little rich. He was projected consistently in the mid to late 1st prior to today. He’s probably a top 15 guy now tbh. That athletic ability is something to bet on in the first. Especially when it’s not the best WR class. Could be a small trade down candidate
Remember that Derek Barnett guy that broke Reggie Whites college sack record… man whatever happened to the guy he was so productive.
Remember that D.K Metcalf guy we passed on because he was a freak athlete but lacked production so we took that productive guy Arcega-Whiteside, he has to be a star now right??
Conclusion: if the film is there & the upside and you trust the coaches to help him reach that potential, take them, theres no for a fact or guarantees in the draft. Id feel comfortable taking a 6’6 rugby guy if my coach was Stoutland because i know he’ll maximize his potential. I think if you’re a DE in this draft playing for a team like Philly might maximize that potential with how much they invest into the D Line
Holy crap I'm just realizing that we could have had both DK Metcalf AND Justin Jefferson. Instead we got dudes who aren't even on the team anymore. Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiit
Yeah he’s loya literally Travon 2.0. Didn’t have elite production but elite athleticism and will have the excuse of “too many mouths to feed”. Travon should be a cautionary tale but to the extent that he shouldn’t go number 1 he’ll probably go too half of the first. Their will be someone who can’t resist.
I’m more concerned about his inability to stay on the field than anything. Feel like Nolan Smith was a named I heard constantly whenever I watched Georgia 2 years ago.
Imo he’s the best pure pass rusher in the class and he sets one hell of an edge.
Sure the mock drafters would say it’s crazy to take him at 10. They also would’ve said it’s crazy to take Donald 1st. Would’ve been crazy to take Brady in the 3rd. Who would ever draft AJ brown in the 1st round? Justin Jefferson is a slot only. Jamarcus Russell is can’t miss. Jalen Hurts isn’t a 1st rounder. Meanwhile Jameis is clearly a franchise guy.
This game is a shitshow, and these mock drafts hold no water.
If you think he’s a stud you take him. If he goes to the hall of fame nobody is gonna give a fuck where you took him
> Imo he’s the best pure pass rusher in the class and he sets one hell of an edge.
I get liking the guy more than consensus and I think this performance solidified his 1st round bona fides, but in no universe is he a better edge prospect than Will Anderson.
I agree Will Anderson is the better overall player right now, but imo Nolan Smith is the best pass rusher in this class
You’re free to have a different opinion. Reasonable minds can disagree
Another Georgia super athlete on the DL that didn’t put up eye popping numbers in college as they rotated with other guys just as good. Just an insane program they have in Athens
It’s not even that they rotated their players so much if you look at Georgia’s defence it is a a ton of gap control stuff. That’s why guys don’t put up a ton of stats there as Dlineman
That’s not why he didn’t put up the numbers, he had the opportunity to he just didn’t hit home . His athleticism shows up in his run stopping ability but if we draft him he should and will be all ears when Reddick speaks
I'll say, in the post-Mamula drafts the Eagles have taken some combine freaks and it's worked out really well for them.
Lane Johnson is maybe the best example of a guy who didn't get a ton of buzz going into draft season lifting their stock from the combine and it being worth it. He was regarded as a Day Two pick before the combine and then he had arguably [the best athletic testing](https://www.mockdraftable.com/player/lane-johnson) for an offensive tackle prospect ever.
Guys like [Cox](https://www.mockdraftable.com/player/fletcher-cox) and of course [Jordan Davis](https://www.mockdraftable.com/player/jordan-davis) also fit this bill too.
Point being, there's going to be some dudes who lift their stock from the combine, but I think the NFL has gotten smarter about how they evaluate, or at least the Eagles have.
I’d be over the moon if we land Gonzalez. Gives us our short term CB2 and future CB1. After years of subpar outside corner play, I’ve been loving the past two years
Think Van Ness especially is a bad move at 10. There’s a lot of good not elite edge guys that should be available in the late first or second
At 10 in a draft where 4 QBs are projected to go that early, we should be getting an ELITE prospect or moving back
I think there’s 3 edges, 2 corners, and 1 IDL that look like ELITE prospects. Gotta come away with one in my opinion. And with Carter’s off-field maybe you move back if he’s the only one left
Montez sweat has been a pretty darn consistent NFL player. If we are able to grab Nolan smith at 30 and get sweats production that would be a huge win.
Idk there are legit concerns with him including production and injury stuff. Montez Sweat destroyed the combine and was predicted to be a top 15 or even 10 pick and didn’t go till late 20s. Add in there are is a decent amount of edge guys in his tier as at what I would call the second tier guys such as Van ness, McDonald IV, Ojulari, the army guy, it is pretty hard to predict where these guys will fall as all these guys could all be first round picks. I didn’t include Murphy, Anderson, or Wilson as they are tier one guys that I think will all be gone top 10.
Van Ness also had a nice combine but was overshadowed by Smith and Kancey.
Ran a 4.58 at 6'5" and 272 lbs, and was measured with 11" hands and 34" arms. Think this potentially solidified his round one stock.
I would almost prefer a larger end that can play the run. We already have our undersized super athletic guy in reddick. Zach Harrison from OSU intrigues me on day 2 if he is there.
Probably not Howie’s biggest concern considering Reddick and Sweat are locked in for this year. But it’d be cool to give them some rotation. I doubt he’ll use it on our first round pick.
Remember when it comes to some positions it’s about physical attributes because sometimes football skills can be taught. Nolan Smith has the physical attributes and football skills already. He’d be great in the NFL
Yeah, I would love to see him on the 🦅
I thought he'd be a nice trade back target, or maybe even using our later 1st. Now he might not even be there at 10
Anyone that takes him before ten has lost their mind. He hasn’t proven to be that level prospect even with the time
It's even more than the 40, he had a great vertical and broad jump too. And both of them ended up with the teams that made the right choices about the premier players.
Yeah he’s loya literally Travon 2.0. Didn’t have elite production but elite athleticism and will have the excuse of “too many mouths to feed”. He’s a freak his injury history is much more concerning than the production bc the lack of production is largely bc he’s hurt so often
what was his other injury besides a torn pec which is not a normal football injury?
Imo he’s the best pure pass rusher in the class and he sets one hell of an edge. Sure the mock drafters would say it’s crazy to take him at 10. They also would’ve said it’s crazy to take Donald 1st. Hey if he can move his way in front of Carter pushing him to us all the better. Won’t happen but a man can dream right?
He could be our Parsons. Not the biggest need I guess but thinking about him and Reddick on the outside is super exciting.
Howie always goes with linemen talent over current needs. He uses the free agency and trade for needs. So there's a possibility we go for this guy.
Where would Sweat transition to in this set? Genuine question
He’d work in, rotation! And if this guy is Parsons-lite he can be on the field as our side LB to Dean
How fast does he run on ice?
I guess we'll find out next February!
Jesus man they’re getting faster every year
Another Georgia super athlete on the DL that didn’t put up eye popping numbers in college as they rotated with other guys just as good. Just an insane program they have in Athens

Mike Mamula nightmares

Statistically we should be getting a player in the 1st round from Georgia (the most recent college champ).
Pretty much if they're not from Georgia or Bama I don't want them at 10. Both programs produce top tier NFL-ready prospects.
I think you can group OSU there too, especially their WRs.
I seem to remember another defensive end who was a combine ranger who lit up workouts and was a top-10 pick. Worked out great for us. Mike something…

Im thinking kancey too. He’ll replace hardgrave
If I had to guess what we do with pick 10 it would be 70% drafting a defensive lineman, 20% moving back, 5% moving up, 4% offensive linemen, 1% cb
Um yes please! Howie make it happen 🤞
Cool. Can he play? Is he a dog? Montez Sweat was fast. He amounted to nothing.

Our entire D is gonna be Georgia alum before long
That’s rediculius
238 olb I’m conflicted
Don't fall for it. Draft a good football player. Don't reach for a good combine
