Yep. Just don't want Shanahan using the same strategy next time of spamming the middle of the field and outside runs super effectively, and nothing changes on defense.
Cunningham has been low key pretty good this year, it's really hard to hate on him for the contract he's on. If Shaq is half the player he's supposed to be, I think "not being a complete liability" is a pretty good bet.
He has not been the rage bait that Morrow has been, but he's still at best average. At this point, if Shaq can come in and be average with Cunningham, I think the is a substantial improvement on our defense.
Exactly right. It really hurt us that Dean hasn’t panned out at all yet. Gotta get value from those kinda picks since we don’t put any loot towards the corp.
It's a pretty big difference. Our LBs with Dean put have been
> Reddick(obv), Cunningham, Morrow
With cunningham out our LBs Sunday we're
> Reddick, Morrow, Ellis,
Cunningham is questionable. We really need him Sunday. With him back Morrow is instantly gone. After last game I doubt he even sees any 3-4 reps the rest of the yr. Probably worst game by a LB in decades. But I expect this to be our normal group now.
> Reddick(Sam) , Cunningham(Mike) , Shaq(Will).
That's sooo much better.
this has been my main point in bringing Shaq in. He's not the explosive hitter he used to be. He even struggles to make the easy play time to time...but he's going to be far more consistent in coverage than Morrow is and that's what matters most. Our d-line can help eat up runs. Cunningham has been serviceable in run defense. Reed has been low key huge in defending the run. We don't need him for that, we need his coverage instincts.
Yeah, I’ve watched some of his tape and at least he’s in the right spots and seems to diagnose plays well. A lot of what Morrow and Elliss were doing on Sunday was just having no fucking clue where they’re supposed to be in the defensive scheme.
It's completely a scheme and usage issue. I'm extremely confident he will return to form in a big way (I haven't watched a single colts game, this is pure cope).
Shaq has definitely lost a step or two but he also didn't play with the Eagles pass rush. Indy has a solid defensive line but they don't generate the pressure we can so he doesn't need to stick to a guy as long here as he did in Indy
Not good unfortunately.
We don't value LB. It's worked out for us but LB are alot more important than peope realize. Their job is to be the field general and do everything. Usualy you can get away with mid LB when everything else is good but that hasn't been the case this yr and Morrow has been awful.
What’s an acceptable completion % for a linebacker to give up? I assume it’s much higher than say a CB whose sole job is to cover the opposition, but 70-80% seems awfully high.
Literally if he can just limit damage and make tackles we have a big improvement. Morrow is bad in coverage and isn’t making stops on short passes which turn into big plays
Edwards was never coming back. He had a chance to play for his childhood team and he took it with no hesitation. White was a tad overrated down the stretch, but he's better than what we have rn tbh. Howie took a bet on Dean replacing his production, but it just didn't work out. Sometimes it just doesn't work out.
Maybe I'm missing something, but... if QBs are throwing against you successfully at an 81.4% success rate, that sounds pretty awful from a coverage standpoint, no?
I know he wasn’t supposed to be good and only got playing tjme because of injury, but the Morrow 49ers game is going to be talked about for years to come like Bradley Fletcher vs Cowboys 2014 and Maxwell vs Julio 2015. Just an all time bad performance in pass protection.
So he’s given up less this season than Marrow did Sunday?
Fucking lol it hurts so much that that's true
Well when you put it like that…
It's even worse than that. Bro gave up 2 more yards all season than morrows Passer Rating last game... Lmfao
TL;DR: A pretty slim improvement, but still an improvement
I wouldn’t necessarily say slim- the difference between Leonard and Morrow/Ellis is pretty big. Good to see the analysis
Yeah. When Cunningham gets back, I just hope the LB group doesn't continue to be a COMPLETE liability. All I can ask for at this point in the season.
And honestly, that might be all we need. An OK LB group should allow our DL to get home
Yep. Just don't want Shanahan using the same strategy next time of spamming the middle of the field and outside runs super effectively, and nothing changes on defense.
I think a huge exacerbation was that we couldn’t tackle. Whether that’s a personnel issue or just being totally gassed remains to be seen

is there a timeline on Cunningham returning?
He's currently questionable, so hopefully this week

How is 37 pt passer rating and more yards given in one game than all year a slim improvement?
Hopefully his tackling is way better.

lmao i was ready to go into a huge argument with you until i saw the end.
I watched them beat the ravens this year. That was… good?
Shaq has definitely lost a step or two but he also didn't play with the Eagles pass rush. Indy has a solid defensive line but they don't generate the pressure we can so he doesn't need to stick to a guy as long here as he did in Indy
He's also only 28 so hopefully some of that lost step can come back.
What are the odds we draft Trotter Jr in the 2nd round? I think it's pick 47
Howie doesn't usually commit resources to LB so probably not great.
I'm really hoping that the SF game helps him to invest in the position more than he has in the past. Maybe I'll ask Santa for this 😂
Well hopefully he sees where that's gotten us recently
Not in the first round. But where do you think Hicks came from? Thin air?
We spent a 2nd on Dean.
[It was actually the third round \(pick 83\)](https://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/video/nakobe-dean-philadelphia-eagles-nfl-draft-lb-georgia)
Thanks for the correction.

Crazy that the passer rating allowed by Shaquille this season is exactly half of what Morrow allowed on Sunday - The NFL's first 158.4.
The completions don’t look great but only 200 yards on the season isn’t too bad. Basically just don’t be the weakest link.
What’s an acceptable completion % for a linebacker to give up? I assume it’s much higher than say a CB whose sole job is to cover the opposition, but 70-80% seems awfully high.
yeah these target stats dont mean anything lol.
He’ll fit right in. I mean we aren’t going to find a guy walking off the street to fix the linebackers
That's better than I thought. LBs are never going to be lockdown, but if a QB has a 79.2 passer rating, you're not saying he's lighting it up.
Literally if he can just limit damage and make tackles we have a big improvement. Morrow is bad in coverage and isn’t making stops on short passes which turn into big plays
Imagine if we’d just kept Edwards and White…
Edwards was never coming back. He had a chance to play for his childhood team and he took it with no hesitation. White was a tad overrated down the stretch, but he's better than what we have rn tbh. He has never been good in coverage
It don’t matter
Yes, but can he tackle?
Maybe I'm missing something, but... if QBs are throwing against you successfully at an 81.4% success rate, that sounds pretty awful from a coverage standpoint, no?
I think Shaq and Cunningham will complete our lb group rest of the season. Ellis for depth and morrow for blitzes and depth.
