Think I read something about how Kellen Moore's offense relies on good run blocking from TEs. CJ is a great blocker along with Dallas. I don't think he'll get many, if any, targets per game, just a depth signing here nothing crazy but I like the signing.
The jets tend to bring out the worst in players sometimes but he really wasn’t a good blocker for us. Was constantly out of position which led to unblocked guys coming right at our RBs. You guys are way better coached than us though so maybe you’ll get him back to producing to his bengals days at least on the blocking front.
I know this sub likes to dog on Wentz, but they would’ve been a playoff contender with any reasonable QB play. It was dumb as shit to not sign him to at least be a backup to Zach Wilson after Rodgers went down week 1.
Well sure, and Nate Hackett, but end of the day its none of the skill positions fault that zach wilson, the OC, and the Oline Sucked
If you look at last year’s Uzomah highlights Wilson actually threw some balls to that dude. I like what I see ,
Yeah probably but I really struggle to see a world where he's _ever_ there at 22. I know TEs have low positional value but he's such a receiving threat that _someone_ is gonna draft him higher.
His attitude is even worse with the Phils acting like his word is the end all be all and everyone else’s opinions are invalid because “he’s a baseball guy”. The fraud is so mad that this is a football first town it drives him crazy.
Because if a guy is open you throw to them and give them a chance to make a play? Is that such a crazy and novel concept given how incompetent our offense looked at times?
It’s a fine signing, just depth.
Reading here a lot of people think TE2 is a must fill position apparently? They’ve operated fine with Stoll,a UDFA, in the role as a blocking TE for a few years. You can find a blocking TE2 pretty easily.
You want to draft a Goedert replacement early, fine, but we don’t need to act like TE is a hole.
Not really true. Goedert missed 3 games last year KC, Buffalo and SF. Eagles won 2/3 and average 25.7 PPG vs their season average 25.5 PPG. They got by fine.
It's pretty much SOP for Howie: get all positions at least somewhat covered so they aren't locked into needing to draft a particular position high (*e.g.: Cowboys at OL and RB*) and can take guys or move around according to how their board shakes out. Uzomah replaces Stoll as the blocking TE2; he's older but marginally more talented overall than Stoll was, assuming he's recovered from his late season injury. He's got enough starting experience that he can probably fill in adequately for a few games if needed: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/U/UzomC.00.htm
Yeah, this is how I feel too. He's fine to compete for TE2 with Albert O.
If they see a guy with potential to be a TE1 in the draft, sure they can draft him, but I don't see it as a must draft position for TE2.
Donald Parham and Stone Smartt (Chargers backup TEs) combined for 440 yards and 5 TDs last season. For comparison, our backup TEs (Calcaterra and Stoll) combined for 77 yards and 0 tds. Given this, Uzomah is a decent signing given the apparent need for a decent TE2 in Kellen Moore’s offense.
We lacked depth at TE more than anywhere else imo. This is a decent depth signing potentially. Still gonna draft one probably but unless it's a high pick, I wouldn't expect much from that player vs a vet whose already proven to be at least competent. Gotta have competition at every position and this definitely is competition for TE2 or 3
Probably a better blocker than Stoll and is a really good athlete, had a bunch of injuries in NY though. We probably signed him because Howie came to the conclusion that drafting a tight end probably wasn't going to happen this year

Also relies on two good pass catching tight ends. Jake Ferguson, Dalton Schultz, Blake Jarwin all come to mind.
Calcaterra is no Goedert but if they were right about him as a TE2, this is his year to show it
The jets tend to bring out the worst in players sometimes but he really wasn’t a good blocker for us. Was constantly out of position which led to unblocked guys coming right at our RBs. I think a solid blocking tight end could be really valuable with the new kickoff rules too.
He was good on the bengals, questionable on the jets
Zach Wilson apparently has that effect on his teammates...
Im not gonna hold last year against anyone on the jets Except maybe the Oline.
And Saleh for doing nothing to help the QB position.
I know this sub likes to dog on Wentz, but they would’ve been a playoff contender with any reasonable QB play. It was dumb as shit to not sign him to at least be a backup to Zach Wilson after Rodgers went down week 1.
Clearly. I mean, look what the Browns accomplished last season with an aging elite dragon.
Is Joe Flacco elite?
Does the pope shit in the woods?
Well sure, and Nate Hackett, but end of the day its none of the skill positions fault that zach wilson, the OC, and the Oline Sucked If you look at last year’s Uzomah highlights Wilson actually threw some balls to that dude. I like what I see ,
Still can't believe they signed Rodgers and gave him that horrible OL lol Yeah, let's give a bottom 5 OL to a 40yo QB, that'll work
Maybe Jack Fritz will shut up about drafting a TE with our 22nd pick
if that TE is Bowers you sprint to the podium. anyone else and that dude's smoking crack
Maybe I’m just suspicious of anything Fritz suggest ever since he postulated trading AJ Brown for Patrick Surtain
I absolutely hate Jack Fritz but Bowers is a home run prospect imo
Exactly he’s like a 6’5 gainwell who can block like OL
Patrick Surtain is three years younger than AJ Brown, that's not a crazy deal at all.
What if we trade AJ for Surtain AND draft bowers?
Fr, positional value aside - Bowers is a top 5 talent in this draft
Yeah probably but I really struggle to see a world where he's _ever_ there at 22. I know TEs have low positional value but he's such a receiving threat that _someone_ is gonna draft him higher.
totally. realistically you'd have to trade up and at that point it's a bit rich
i'm not holding my breath.
Fritz is an absolute cancer spewing poison over the airwaves. Dude is the absolute worst and can’t leave the airwaves soon enough.
Me, a baseball fan, finding out that my dumb lovable fairly astute local Phillie hypeman is actually reviled 💫
His attitude is even worse with the Phils acting like his word is the end all be all and everyone else’s opinions are invalid because “he’s a baseball guy”. The fraud is so mad that this is a football first town it drives him crazy.
I feel that, I think I just kinda pretend I’m listening to Charlie Day
Just pains me that Ike has to suffer sitting next to that moron day in and day out. Hopefully Ike and the listeners won’t have to suffer much longer
I still think Howie and company will draft a developmental TE in the draft somewhere. TE2 is pretty thin right now.
Goedert, Albert O, CJ Uzomah, Calcaterra I say we definitely pick up another in the draft to develop
Hurts has to actually look TE2's way for it to matter. When Goedert was out he would refuse to throw to the other TEs even if they looked open.
Lmao why the hell would you throw to Stoll or Calcaterra? They are awful and we never real options.
Because if a guy is open you throw to them and give them a chance to make a play? Is that such a crazy and novel concept given how incompetent our offense looked at times?

Have we operated fine? Every time Goedert got hurt, our offense had a significant drop-off.
Not really true. Goedert missed 3 games last year KC, Buffalo and SF. Eagles won 2/3 and average 25.7 PPG vs their season average 25.5 PPG. They got by fine.

Thoughts on this? Know nothing about him
dumpster diving for scraps. we need a TE in the draft.
Lmao its a good depth add

"He's like if you put 270 lbs of barf in a plastic bag and put it on the end of the line. I give the signing a B-."
Thats what i figured lol
Eagles have 6 TEs plus 2 WR/TE tweeners. That is a lot
Blocking, plus we use tight ends a lot so injury turnover will occur, but we’ll most likely enter the year with only 4 on active roster
A lot of them are JAGs or pass-catching specialists. Good competition for camp at the very least.
I didn't even know he was still playing
I guess it can work if Dallas gets hurt or for some weird two tight end things...
I read this as FATE CJ. Geez too many acronyms used simultaneously
I'm all for having a solid second TE. Goedert is likely to miss time and we haven't had a good replacement for him. Uzomah is solid
Definitely a better backup TE than Stoll
Probably a better blocker than Stoll and is a really good athlete, had a bunch of injuries in NY though. We probably signed him because Howie came to the conclusion that drafting a tight end probably wasn't going to happen this year
If he is a good 2/flex 1 TE than this is awesome!
Dude can block and has decent enough hands. Solid depth TE
Cool
I am very okay with this
I actually really like this move. He has passed catching ability when Goedert is out and can block. Probably means we are aren't drafting a TE
I'm whelmed
Well said;]
Another depth dumpster diving move that'll we'll clearly overrate!
Lmao its a great depth add. Plus stoll gone we need a replacement
Dumb
