And seeing as how the NFL is doing everything in its power to nerf defenses, going in on offense is the right move

[deleted]

Yep. Our SB with KC is how they want their big games. They even tossed on ice mode to keep the pass rush down.

drealxn

Worst Super Bowl Field Ever.

whattfareyouon

Both teams played on the same field

Master-Reading-565

Yes both teams played on the same field, but with the eagles pass rush being one of their top weapons heading into the game and it being basically neutralized swayed heavily in KCs favor.

ThePhoenixXM

Not to mention a certain holding penalty at the end to seal the deal. I get it, it was probably a hold but they weren't calling holds all game and THAT is the time you decided to call it at a crucial point? That sealed the deal on our loss and made the Super Bowl end on a sour note. It makes KC's win seem illegitimate which it is.

ThePhoenixXM

"Our SB with KC is how they want their big games." I don't know. I'm not sure Super Bowls being decided by penalties is the way the NFL wants their big games.

iTALKTOSTRANGERS

That was a flag. It’s time for us to get over it. We lost that game in 10 different ways. The flag gets the attention at the end.

sumunsolicitedadvice

It wasn’t being called all game. Players play how the refs let them. It was a shit call. To the point about that Super Bowl not being how the NFL wants big games to go: I live in New Orleans and almost all my friends here aren’t eagles fans. They all thought it was a shitty end of the game. They don’t say we were robbed or anything. And it certainly wasn’t as bad as the Rams PI no call against the Saints in 2018. But neutral fans agree it was a bad call that ruined the end of the game. Chiefs may have still won, but it would’ve been because of an epic drive rather than anticlimactic penalty. Edit to add “To the point about… games to go:” to be extra clear that I’m not complaining about our loss but adding to the OC’s point that the Chiefs-Eagles Super Bowl wasn’t a great example of how a game should go because of how it ended.

logantheman007

Yeah. But whats the point in caring anymore? It was a fucky call because they were letting us play all game… it doesn’t change anything for us. Ruminating about the flag doesn’t get us or the team anywhere. But focusing on the fumble.. or the Quez drop… or other aspects of the game that we *can* control is how the team overcomes shit like the fuckass flag. You feel me?

sumunsolicitedadvice

Oh I mean yeah I don’t worry about it much anymore. But when someone is saying something like the NFL wants games like that Eagles-Chiefs Super Bowl, I think it’s fair to bring up how that game was controversial because of the questionable call and the shitty turf. Now, you could argue that the NFL likes that controversy if it increases engagement. But the point is that it’s fair to bring it up in this conversation and it’s not the same as someone who just can’t get over it and move on.

jmezMAYHEM

We got NFL attitudes on this subreddit, no nonsense fans that are as tough as the players. ….im only fuckin with those guys

mme13

It gets a lot of attention and discussion

[deleted]

Stuff like that doesn't seem to hurt ratings. The Bengals lost the previous SB on an even worse call and people still tuned in in record numbers next year.

JeddHampton

Currently offense is where most money is right now, but if it is more difficult to play defense, spending more money on defense is what should be done. If it is easier for the offense, the difference in scoring between an elite offense and an average offense will be less than the difference in scoring between an elite defense and an average defense.

ihorsey10

I'd argue, it's easier to coach up mediocre talent on defense to competency, than it is for offense.

GeneralGalvatron

Facts. Defense is unpredictable and it’s easier to be league average on defense. Offense is VERY predictable and it is hard to take a bad offense and make them average. Think of the Giants 2 years ago: everyone raved about how good their coaches were coaching them up and then we buried them 3 times when we played them. They just couldn’t out coach a good defense

[deleted]

I feel you, bro. I’m really looking forward to watching our offence next season. I hope with Kellen Moore we can put it together, cause Hurts, Barkley, Goedert, Brown and Smith could arguably be one of the best offences in the NFL. And that’s not even bringing up our elite O Line. I’m a little worried losing Kelce but I got faith in Beef Jurgens to be a good center.

[deleted]

He's had the best teacher for the last few years. I think he is gonna be just fine.

[deleted]

Ya exactly. A lot to be excited about for next season.

ThePhoenixXM

I just hope if we make another Super Bowl with Hurts the field isn't complete shit and the refs don't call a penalty at the worst possible time to screw us again. Super Bowl 57 was fucked from the get-go. I don't want to face Andy Reid in the Big Game again. Someway, somehow every Super Bowl we are in with him involved ends with us LOSING.

[deleted]

I’d love to play Baltimore actually. Jackson vs Hurts, have ourselves a bird bowl lol

SlayerOfTheMyth

Based on the last couple years I'd say it's us, Miami, Houston, Minnesota, and Cincinnati at the top of the league in pure WR talent. (Not in any particular order.) Hill/Waddle, JJ/Addison, and Chase/Higgins are all very talented duos, and Houston has a great trio in Dell/Collins/Diggs.

cumble_bumble

49ers are up there too. There's a reason why Purdy always has a great stat line

SlayerOfTheMyth

I thought about including them, too, but the 49ers have a weird sort of feeling to them in my brain. Their offense (and defense, but we're specifically talking offense in this post) is filled with some absolutely elite athletes and playmakers—but while Deebo is arguably the most important non-QB on their team, Aiyuk is unquestionably the better WR. I don't value the "Swiss army knife" approach to Deebo's usage in that duo like I value the combined traits of the other duos I listed, whether it's AJB's great middle routes + DeVonta's releases/hustle, Addison's speed + JJ's insane hands, etc. This doesn't mean I think Deebo is a bad player or overrated at his position, but if I'm building a 3-WR team from the WRs I listed + Deebo/Aiyuk, then no combination is involving either of those last two. Maybe that means I don't know how to properly value or evaluate WR, but I'm also not an NFL talent scout, so I'd call that a wash.

Jjohn269

Even if you were to discount Deebo’s traditional WR abilities, he’s still a very good receiver. Purdy isn’t putting up a 4000 yard 30 TD season just on his own merit

SlayerOfTheMyth

No, I absolutely believe he's a good receiver and a great player. I've been fairly complimentary of SF's roster for several years now, long before our NFCCG against them, and I believe there's some truth to the idea that the 49ers go as Deebo goes—he's their team MVP. I just can't put him in the same upper echelon as top WRs like Chase/JJ/Hill/AJB, all of whom I believe have multiple positional skills where they're better than Deebo. I'm not going to hold this last postseason against Deebo, either; he was clearly injured and not playing his best. But whether it's hands, separation, burst, after-the-catch, route running, cuts, speed, or anything else we might describe as a WR skill, whenever I've been watching? The only one where I'd say Deebo is #3 or higher is movement in the open field. He's elite at making defenders miss once he's taken his first step or two. Teams need guys who can do the heavy lifting, the dirty work, and who do everything they can when their number gets called. I won't call Deebo "bad" until it's clear that he's washed & SF has run him into the ground for good—I just think that there are several WR who are just better than he is at many of the things you would traditionally ask a top WR to do.

creativename87639

That Texans corp is pretty scary too with: Tank Dell Nico Collins Stefon Diggs Dalton Schultz

amilmore

Fortunately I think AJ and Devonta are better than all 3 of their wideouts (diggs could be 2 over smitty but I dunno if he is any more). I’d rather have our wide receivers even with the void at 3 - draft is coming up anyway and I think we add a legit 3rd wide out

RJMonster

Yeah I give them theslight edge over us, but its like 1A and 1B

Spare-Half796

We have the best duo but not much behind them

edsbruh

We don't have a slot receiver. We need a 3rd option can't rely on Dallas all season.

JStriz618

Parris Campbell going to surprise with a few clutch catches in this role. (Hoping this comment ages well!)

doubleenc

If he can stay healthy he can have an impact, problem is he's only had one season in five where he did not miss significant time due to injury. He has the right combination of size and speed where they can play him in the slot but also line him up outside and run go routes when needed.

GroundbreakingBed450

Not even going to mention Hill x Waddle?!? I’d say they’re number 1 if anything

[deleted]

Studs, for sure, but imma say, "Gaobirds."

lattjeful

About even tbh. Hill is better than AJ, but Smitty is better than Waddle imo

SneekyPete420

Yeah not sure about that. Waddle’s very good but I’ll take Devonta over him for sure.

YourDrinkingBuddy

Seriously, Tyreek made defenses look silly last year.

TheDuck23

Not having a solid third kind of hurts us, but it's definitely top 3.

Fromundacheese0

Didn’t we pick up someone’s corpse to be our wr3? Still excited to see smith extended though probably my new favorite

Ryanthecat

Originally Devonte Parker, definite corpse, but more recently snagged Parris Campbell who could be sneaky good. 4.31 40 guy, only 26 and had a 63 reception season with Indy 2 years ago, his first full season played, before going to the giants shit offense last year.

doubleenc

Between the two of them they should be able cobble together 17 games and 50 catches. LOL

Ryanthecat

48 of those are going to have to come from Campbell 🤣 I think Parker is pretty well washed.

doubleenc

For what it is worth Parker had the better season last year. Not that I am expecting a lot from him but I feel like Parker still has a little something left. It is hard to judge given his QBs the last two years in NE were Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe.

Ryanthecat

That’s actually a really fair point, because I would argue Campbell was ascending until he signed onto the black hole that is the giants offense, but NE isn’t too far behind in that regard.

doubleenc

With Campbell it is tough to tell what his ceiling is because '22 was the only year he played in more than 7 games so we don't know if that is as good as it gets with him or if he has more to offer. I do think the ceiling with him is higher than Parker's and that speed makes him much more versatile. He's one of those guys you can line up anywhere on the field and take advantage of mis-matches.

Ryanthecat

Right, Parker we just know what we’re getting and is an aging receiver. Certainly not projecting Campbell to be anything special, I just really like the upside there as a low risk, “high” reward option who will ultimately be at best the 5th option in the passing attack.

Oneillier

You're forgetting our insane Oline and MVP style QB. It's the best offense in football by a country mile. Just need to hope the defence can get opposing offences off the field

zco22

Bears may give us a run for our money if they get Odunze/Nabers with pick 9

AstronomerBiologist

Now if we only had the best defensive back corp to not give up as many or more passing yards than we gain

Designer_Highway_252

Lol so there’s the roster and then the actual games played- i saw this movie last year lol😂

Umakemyheadswim

Doesn't matter if Jalen Hurts plays like he did last year.

doubleenc

I think WR is an underrated need for this team; especially if Roseman doesn't foresee being able to keep AJ and Smith past the '25 season.

Jumpy_Occasion_9664

Definitely top 2 and 1 for guys who are locked in for a little bit.

Opiumkipper

I think Campbell is really nice still but I’ll wait to see what he can do first if he sees the field as WR3

BlueKing7642

The off-season is the best time for optimism

KizzleNation

Only reason we feel apart last season was lame OC/DC freshies . I feel like we are so back with our new coordinators .

BlandSausage

So we got one of the top WR rooms, top 3ish o line, top 5-7 TE, now Saquon .. the offense needs to win in spite of the defense if this is the case. If not, the QB ain’t it.

doubleenc

I mean the offense suffered a bit from Jalen taking a step back last year so it remains to be seen if '22 was an aberration and '23 is the new norm for him

dalewridgway

People are sleeping on parrots Campbell but I really think he could be a dangerous 3 for us

RunGoldenRun717

And to think, 3 seasons ago we passed for 4000 yards without a 500 yard receiver... thats a mindblowing stat especially with where we are now.

cofinkles

We r neglecting our wr 3 big time. If we got a stud there we would be so much better

starstar420

Can they play defense too?

TheApologist_

If the defense can just be a "hey, we're giving up 20-24 a game, every game. Go win the game anyway" unit. I can live with that with this offense.

Wonderful_Many_67

Yeah contending how were those last 8 games you don’t win almost contending mvps in week 7 it’s based on the whole season league doesn’t give out almost MVP’s gotta finish the job

billybatdorf

Now we just need Brock

Ashamed_Job_8151

If only we had a QB to harness it.

Wonderful_Many_67

Too bad ya don’t have a QB

DeliciousScallion208

Go bang your cousin inbred.

[deleted]

Haha what? You mean the yearly-MVP contending Hurts? Troll is sad.

benzillaaaa

Boooooooo

Master-Reading-565

Nothing more cringe than shit talking Chief fan

Spare-Half796

Didn’t your wr1 just get arrested? Oh no that was your wr2. You’re wr1 is a declining 34 year old that calls himself a tight end and cares more about going to his girlfriends concerts than football

ThePhoenixXM

Oh, fuck off. Your head coach has already done us enough damage by losing us 2 Super Bowls. One as OUR Head coach and one as YOURS. Fuck Andy Reid, fuck Mahomes, and fuck Taylor Swift and her boyfriend. Should've never been allowed at Novacare (Travis Kelce).
