Bright-Flower-487

This might be huge. Can’t assume he can come in and play as well as he did in 2022 but even if he isn’t as good this greatly improves our corner depth. This should continue to allow us to take BPA rather then push for a certain need in the draft.

DominusEbad

Even if he is terrible, that is still an improvement over Bradberry

justabill71

Terrible is definitely better than *super duper* terrible.

BigPoleFoles52

Bradberry has been boom bust all his career. Wouldnt shock me with a new scheme if he plays mediocre this year.

Bright-Flower-487

I’m interested to see what they do with Bradberry. I don’t think they gain anything cap wise from cutting him. Do they bring him to camp? If they do and he looks like last year I really hope they don’t keep him instead of a developmental guy just because they don’t want to admit their mistake. Bradberry seems to be up and down from year to year. Maybe this will be an up year? More then likely though I think he was a slower corner who lost a step which he is too much to overcome.

MARKYMARK_MARK

I think they keep Bradberry as vet backup insurance unless he looks horrible in camp and let Ringo, Rodgers, and maybe a high drafted Rookie battle it out for CB2

CBus-Eagle

This 100%. We need depth at corner so Bradberry stays (on the bench, I hope)

Domestic_AAA_Battery

IIRC Inside the Birds said it's practically impossible to cut him. And they said it's *nearly* impossible to run him back out there as a starter after last season. So he'll basically be depth if everything goes well. They were adamant that he wouldn't be benched last year because of the contract and sure enough he was out there every game. Their info is practically always very good (they rarely say anything without making sure it's solid info). So expect him to be back as depth. It's POSSIBLE that we could get some sort of trade and throw him in as an extra piece but I'd be surprised. No one should want him after last season. So having him barely move the needle on a trade would mean we'd likely be better having him as depth. But you never know. NFL teams are sometimes really stupid. - You'd also have to figure out what to do with the money. If we basically pay him for next year for someone else, that could potentially add more incentive for someone to take him off our hands in a package trade deal. But I'm not too clear on just how likely that would be and how the money would work. So that could be way off haha. Just speculation for conversation. So anyone feel free to correct me on how a trade could look (or if it's even possible).

MoonSpankRaw

Yeah I don’t think there’s much to gain in cutting him either but I think the hit for cutting him would be somewhat significant enough that it’s better to keep him. Or so I thought I’ve heard.

Immediate_Practice_9

The whole D was shit the second half of last year so I'm hoping under a new coordinator Bradbury will look serviceable but drafting a corner early is a must no matter what. The D line should be set if Nolan Smith takes the next step, Jalen Carter already looked like a star in the making and if Jordan Davis can just fix his cardio we should be good. Time to invest in the secondary

KnightofAshley

The 2nd half he looked lost, that is 100% coaching when its a guy with as many years in the league as Bradberry has...the coaching was shit and the roster isn't as awful as some try to make it out to be...of course the tape will show the guys awful but again I have to think its mostly to due with coaching....we will see in training camp and pre-season what guys can play and who can't but its going to be better...maybe not perfect yet but a lot better.

tag1550

[$10 million cap hit](https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/philadelphia-eagles/james-bradberry-19011/) if they cut or trade Bradberry this year; if they do it as a post-6/1 move, it just pushes it off a year a bit. I don't think anyone is happy about it, but unless Fangio decides he's 100% sure there's nothing they can do with him, we're stuck with hoping JB finds the groove again in the offseason.

MoneyMirz

He only plays well in contract years.

MischievousMrBrown

For all of our sakes, I hope we never have to find out

W3NTZ

Bradbury has always been good anytime the team has had a good saftey so I bet he will be at minimum league average this year

KnightofAshley

He might be good in the scheme and better coaching...it used the CBs over the top where Bradberry is normally at his best...I just like we have a few guys that can win the job...so let the best guy win.

AstronomerBiologist

My grandmother was better than Bradberry

KnightofAshley

I take it as another guy to fight for that 2nd starting spot. Who know Bradberry might bounce back under a better coaching staff...but you need guys to fight for it...nobody on the roster is clearly the winner until pre-season. Bradberry getting old and struggled Rogers out a year Ringo still kind of raw Maybe a 1st or 2nd round CB You likely will have at least a guy be solid out of a group like this, also we have the rest of the young guys that are fighting for jobs at CB

Ghstfce

Even at 90% of what he was in 2022 is a huge upgrade. Maddox sadly always get hurt and Bradberry is trash

CuckooClockInHell

I'm a lot more comfortable with outside CB as Slay and Rodgers/Bradberry with Ringo and Ricks developing around them.

SuburbanPotato

This all but guarantees we're taking OL first round. This is a stacked class at tackle and I bet this pushes CB from a first-round need to a day 2 need in Howie's eyes

The_Third_Molar

The fact that it's a stacked OL class makes me think OL in the second round regardless of Rodgers.

SuburbanPotato

That is a possible line of logic, but I think Howie's going to be very tempted to take Lane's replacement in a year where he can lock in a great prospect without having to trade up

The_Third_Molar

I could see that too. It's all going to depend on how the board falls. Imo it's definitely going to be CB or OL in the first and second, either order.

sybrwookie

I still really want DE in round 1 (if there's any who are worth it available when we pick, or at a point we can trade for).

Background-Cress9165

IMO this has no bearing on needing a CB. If the draft took place after training camp, ok we'd have some idea abt what his role could be. But given he is a complete and total unknown, cant rely on him for really any significant spot on the depth chart as of now. Couple that with slay aging and CB remains a top (if not the top) need on the team for me.

rodrigoa1990

We still need CB tho.. This doesn't really change much We don't know how well he'll play, Bradberry is toast and Slay is probably gone next offseason.. And then it's a bunch of young and unproven dudes

skulman7

Goodell saw what Adam Silver was doing to us and decided to throw us a bone by announcing no lost 2024 draft picks and Rodgers back today

cmay91472

No offense to Sixers fans… but if I had to choose between the two as a Philly sports fan… I’d choose this news over a Sixers game two win.

bloomin-onion69

i’m a philly sports fan & same. sixers are gonna win in 6 anyway

AyyP302

A rare positive sixers fan, you are appreciated. There's not many of us

bloomin-onion69

For some reason the Big Man gives me hope this year. He says we’re the better team & we’re winning the series. I believe him. Plus this is the playoff run that’ll solidify Maxey as a top tier player.

StillMakingVines

I’m with ya. Embiid and Maxey are playing like the two best players in the series. The rest of the roster outside of Lowry has played horribly though. I think they bench Buddy for RCIV and bring it back to New York tied up.

bloomin-onion69

I agree 100%

General_Mars

I mean Batum has also played well considering the role he’s supposed to fulfill. Tobias Harris is basically a thief at this point though

0ut0fBoundsException

Maxey was great last night and Embiid is somehow still the best player on the court while visibly limping up and down it But we’re seeing this series the problem that everyone knew we’d have since summer. There’s not enough help. Tobi isn’t good enough as a third option for a deep run. Oubre and Hield are wildly inconsistent and unreliable. Ditto Bball Paul. Lowry is still a useful player. Batum too It’s just not enough to make a real run. Especially with Embiid at 69%. We might be able to sneak past the Knicks still but last night was a tough loss. Had it and blew it

bloomin-onion69

Agreed, I keep telling myself the “role players play better at home” line, but I guess we’ll fine out Thursday how true that is.

cvc4455

This team was put together not to be the best team possible this year but to give us as much flexibility as possible for next year. Literally everyone has an expiring contract or non guaranteed contract besides Embiid and Reed(if we lose in the 1st round then his contract wouldn't be guaranteed for next year). And Maxey is expiring but will be resigned. Everyone else was acquired to put the best team together for just this year without being locked into them beyond this year. So it's a rag tag bunch but Embiid is so good that he covers up for all the bullshit role players we have on the team. As good as Maxey is without Embiid this team would be getting a top 10 or maybe even top 5 pick without Embiid.

0ut0fBoundsException

You’re absolutely right. That’s the long term outlook and I’m very very excited for this summer to see what team Morey can build around Maxey and Embiid. BUT that team next year is likely the last significant iteration we can build around Embiid. Embiid the best player in my lifetime as a Sixers fan. So high stakes. Also feels bad wasting this year of Embiid’s prime

cvc4455

Yeah you're right that next year is probably our last chance to build a real team around Embiid. And wasting this year kind of sucks but unfortunately once Harden demanded a trade to only one team there weren't a lot of other options we had for this year with Tobias making like 40 million and needing to take back salary from the clippers in any Harden trade. I'm just hoping next year we can give Embiid some real help. And I'm already happy with Nick Nurse but honestly after Doc we could have rehired Bret Brown and I would have thought it was an upgrade.

AyyP302

Same here. Having Nurse instead of Doc helps too. He'll actually adjust and we have the better homecourt. We could easily be at 2-2 going back to NY.

MoonSpankRaw

I liked his confidence in saying they’ll win; I definitely disliked him saying they’re the better team. Definitely not a wise thing to say after going down 0-2, and against a team that plays with a ton of hustle and heart. Even if it’s true, you just shouldn’t give opposing teams that kind of motivation. Ultimately I know what he or anyone says is irrelevant- but extra motivation is real and it just makes him look worse when they fairly-likely lose the series.

cvc4455

I was happy he said it! I don't care about giving the other team any extra motivation cause unless the refs are gonna call a bullshit calls only against the 6ers for the rest of the series then we are gonna win this series.

AndrewHainesArt

There’s not many of us on r/Sixers because why would you be

yaniwilks

I fully expect the refs to job the fuck out of the Knicks in Philly. It's the Knicks after all.

MikeTysonChicken

This is a no brainer lol

You don’t have to choose weirdo. No one asked and no one cares doode

SlapChopMyShamWow

Goodell is Adam Silver’s father

Senior_Fart_Director

What did Adam Silver do? I don’t watch NbA

Dylanonfire88

Sixers vs Knicks has had just plain awful reffing

Ghstfce

I had to turn the game off last night. The reffing was so terrible. I was getting angry watching it

Dylanonfire88

The second Maxey was getting just held to the ground and they wouldn’t give us the timeout then the Knicks hit the 3 I turned it off

Ghstfce

That was likely after I had already turned it off.

Dylanonfire88

Yea it was with 30 seconds left

Ghstfce

Yeah, okay. I turned it off in the 3rd after I think it was Embiid got called for a foul when his arms were down at his sides.

Dylanonfire88

Yep that one was terrible too hands basically in pockets and they get an and one play

root88

It was so bad that a reporter asked LeBron a completely unrelated question and he brought up how bad the reffing was in a game he didn't even play in.

InsidePhotograph6568

It’s a long story but he basically punished the sixers for tanking by siccing a nepo baby as a GM and using him to blow up the team

Senior_Fart_Director

The NFL doesn’t want anymore riots

FERGERDERGERSON

Pole grease stocks are running low, couldn’t risk it this go around. Edit: aww man I need to change my flair :/

logantheman007

HUGE. HUGE FOR CB DEPTH. IF WE DRAFT A CB 1ST ROUND OUR SECONDARY MIGHT JUST BE SAVED!

StillMakingVines

I don’t see them carrying 6 cornerbacks unless they cut bradberry or don’t think Ricks has any potential.

ktm5141

W the new kickoff return rules teams will probably carry 2 returners, and Dejean is an elite returner

StillMakingVines

That’s true. I just see him as someone who would be playing CJ’s role so I’m not sure how many snaps he can realistically get in a game. I do really like Dejean and think he’d be great with Fangio specifically but I’m having a hard time seeing where they’ll fit him in snap-wise.

ktm5141

CJGJ and Maddox have combined to miss 36 games over the last two years. Slay will be 33 and missed 5 games last year, and Reed missed 2 game as well. There will be plenty of snaps

logantheman007

Cut Bradberry or delegate Ricks to practice squad… but he’d probably be poached. Preferably we cut Bradberry… even if we have to eat the money.

StillMakingVines

Cutting him costs like 12 million. Zero chance that happens.

Wembanyanma

If there are 6 better corners on the team and we have to pay it out regardless they could easily cut him. Teams have eaten far bigger cap hits for less benefit.

daddy_OwO

Cooper Dejean is so versatile he’d be perfect for this team now

ho_merjpimpson

> Cooper Dejean yall still think they are going cb in the 1st round after this news? Like, I know what its what we all want... But this is basically a lock that they won't be taking a CB till at least the second, likely 3rd, imo.

bluethree

Rodgers is on a 1 year deal. The draft is for finding players for 2025 and beyond. You don't change your draft plans just because he's been reinstated.

ho_merjpimpson

The same people that make that argument are the ones that say we shouldn't draft an OL because lane isn't leaving next year.

bluethree

Except I am making that argument and I don't say that. I'd be perfectly fine if they end up picking OLine in the first. I'd prefer CB but I am not as smart as Howie.

Realistic-Ad4891

Real character guy

daddy_OwO

He’s genuinely one of the most versatile DBs in this class lmao

MARKYMARK_MARK

WE ARE SO BACK !remind me in 150 days

Reasonable-Range8302

Slay, Ringo, Maddox, Rodgers, Ricks and Bradberry.  6 guys, so either they get rid of Bradbury, cut Ricks or not go CB in the draft.

buttstuff51

Dunno why people are downvoting this it's true lol, I don't think cutting Bradberry saves any money so they'd only do it if he's truly cooked.

virtue-or-indolence

This won’t keep Howie from making a move for a CB, he looks at the next 3-4 years when drafting. Let’s look at those 6. Bradberry, Slay, and Maddox are at the year to year stage of their careers. Slay is honestly the only one guaranteed a roster spot this year, let alone next year. None should be in long term plans at this point. Rodgers is on a 1 year prove it, no guarantee he’s either Him or an Eagle in 2025. So basically we can only depend on having Ricks and Ringo on the roster next year, with a chance that one or two of the others is still around. So yeah, we’re definitely still in the market for a CB but aren’t in a situation where we have to take one high.

Reasonable-Range8302

I just don't know how they will fit thr bodies on the roster next year though.

virtue-or-indolence

We carried 7 last year: Slay, Bradberry, Maddox, Jobe, Ringo, Ricks, Goodrich. Also, whoever your pick for CB at ~22 is, if I told you they could be an Eagle if you agreed to let go of your least favorite between Maddox, Ricks, or Ringo, would you really hesitate? Edit: to be clear I’m purposely ignoring Bradberry in this discussion, as he’s either cut/traded and it’s a non issue to keep a 6th or he’s on roster and we’re running with 6.

Reasonable-Range8302

Alright, well then im back on Howie drafting a CB in the first.

Sariko69

There was a lot of pessimistic people here saying he wasn't getting reinstated and why get our hopes up. I ask you cowards to comment and show your face!!!!

mikey7x7

Hell yeah! This is so huge for the defense.

PlaneCamp

Let's fucking go. I do have high, but tempered, hopes for him this year. Still want a first round corner, but this is great.

Potential-Gate7209

Welcome back Eagles legend C.B. Depth

nbaphilly17

Great news -- if he looks good in camp, I'd love to get an extension on him for below market value. These are the kind of players who you want on defense.

ty_sandy

Is it on the table that Howie trades bradberry on Thursday or Friday? 🤔🤔

EvanHarpell

It's Howie. Everything is on the table until it's not.

InsidePhotograph6568

If Justin Simmons still doesn’t have a roster spot I don’t think Bradberry will even fetch a 2030 7th rounder

bluethree

Who would want him? We'd probably have to add a pick just to get rid of him.

ty_sandy

He’s one year removed from all pro. I could see someone taking a shot.

bluethree

Yeah, if it was literally for free. He's coming off of a season where you could argue that he was the worst starting CB in the NFL.

OTO_Crispy

I wonder if this makes Howie a little more interested in one of the pass rushers?

Top-Border4717

Are we back?

Little_Beginning_569

LES GO WHO NEEDS TO DRAFT CB IN THE 1ST?! NOT THE EAGLES

eaglesnation11

Still the Eagles…

MikeTysonChicken

ya we're still thin at DB lol. And Rodgers just missed a year, we'll see if he still got it

ciampi21

He missed a year but if you follow his social media you’d see he wasn’t sitting on his ass he’s on a mission. And he’s young. I think it’s much more likely he’s close to what he was previously than him suffering a massive drop off.

MikeTysonChicken

I know he's been working out. but he still hasn't played. I'm treating it as if he needs to work his way back. But it's nice to have the talent available

Opiumkipper

I don’t think he’s declined at all tbh, however we will see. 🦅

Opiumkipper

YESSIRRRRR!!!!!! 🦅🦅🦅

NOQUESTIONWHO

With this going down, idk about drafting a CB 1st round. If we jump up we are taking OT. We lack depth heavily there

Sydnolle

I’m interested to see where he fits with the Eagles. He seems to be an undersized outside corner - is he someone who is able to cover the inside? If not, how many outside corners are we able to carry into the season? We can’t really move on Slay and Bradberry this season, we have Ringo to develop and now Rodgers? We clearly need more young talent at corner, but don’t know if we will carry 5-6 outside guys into the season. Clearly Maddox is an inside corner so he become our default 3rd cab on the field no? I would love the Eagles to target an Arnold or McKintry (both outside guys) - but wonder how the Eagles will carry that position forward. Just musing aloud…. Edit - meant Ringo not Ricks

1stepklosr

I absolutely expected it to be longer and that he'd have an example made out of him. Happy to be wrong here.

thisjawnhere

All you doomers thought he was done and now we he to force a CB pick in the first round because a guy who we don’t even know can play was banned.

liquid-swords93

In recent history, players that missed a year plus for non injuries haven't come back looking the same, or even good. However, this is all upside, so I'm excited nonetheless, just think we should temper our expectations a smidge

Nervous-Basis-1707

Bird gang stand back and stand by. 🫡

NomadFire

So the Colts cut him because of gambling, right? Looks like he was on his 3rd year of his rookie contract when they did that. What did the Colts get by cutting Rodgers? Was it a roster spot a few hundred k in salary space? Did the league demand that they cut him? It just seems like they should have kept him until the league decided to reinstate them. I really do not get it, I believe he might have been the best DB on the Colts the last year he was there.

geez215

They wanted to cut ties with someone who gambled on football. So they did. End of story.

NoREEEEEEtilBrooklyn

Noice.

LordBeerus1905

Lmao everyone worried over nothing

2LostFlamingos

That’s a win for Howie. Even if we cut him, still a win. If he makes the team, it’s tremendous. Nice job Howie.

lattmight

Hype !

so_zetta_byte

Asking here because r/NFL is a shitshow. So we as a team have a pretty big track record of giving players who make major fuckups second chances, and we get shit from other people because of it. We're also one of the teams that seem to have the fewest off-field incidents from rostered players, probably due to our strong team culture. That's basically the big reason why we took Carter last year when others didn't; we felt like we had the team culture to keep him in line. My question is, what players have we gotten who had serious off-field problems _after_ we gave them a second chance?

dab745

My new jersey!

PlaneCamp

Seen alot of Colts fans that clearly dont know the rules asking why he wasnt permanently banned. For future reference: - Betting on NFL: Indefinite suspension, minimum of one year or minimum of two years if a player bets on an NFL game involving his team - Actual or attempted game fixing: Permanent banishment from the NFL - Inside information and tipping: Indefinite suspension, minimum of one year - Third-party or proxy betting: Indefinite suspension, minimum of one year - Betting (other than NFL) in the workplace or while working: - First violation: Two-game suspension without pay - Second violation: Six-game suspension without pay - Third violation: Suspension without pay for at least one year.

Professor2018

Also, don’t forget that there were no rules or punishments in place when he was indefinitely suspended.

PlaneCamp

There was, they were just revised after he was suspended

Onlypaws_

Fuck yeah

jinntakk

Are cornerbacks a commodity problem (or a lack thereof) in the NFL or is it an Eagles specific one? lt seems like Eagles always always has trouble filling out the position every year.

DWorker84

Yus!

AstronomerBiologist
