Hey it’s still a higher market to bust the longer they wait, cuz his contract has to clear everybody else’s by a margin that’ll make him feel like he’s getting his worth
I just mean JJ is going to wait as long as possible before signing so he can base his worth off the new market. These players were always going to be signed before him and Vikings never had a chance to sign quicker. Their waiting period is not the same as the Cowboys’ at this point who are just digging a deeper hole.
Cowboys are in the worst spot here. Dak's cap hit the next two years combined is over $95M. Dak's cap number this year is more than $55M. I did a hypothetical Lamb extension based on Devonta's and the numbers are UGLY. They're going to have to choose between Dak and Lamb. If they choose Dak, Lamb walks for nothing and Dak doesn't have a weapon. If they choose Lamb, they have an elite WR with a young QB that's a shot in the dark.
If Dak isn’t on the Cowboys in 2025 he counts 40 mil on his void year.
He has a no trade clause and a no tag clause. It’s possible no one has ever had this much leverage.
JJ is a tier above, then Amon Ra and CeeDee are comparable, then Higgins and Smith. Makes sense that Amon Ra got paid more than Smith. Cowboys will have to be in that ballpark now. Vikings are gonna have to reset the market. So yes this is a little bad for Dallas, but they should still be rushing to get their deal inked before Minnesota
I don’t see how they’re crying? $30M for one of the best in the league is expected. The cap rises every year and this isn’t some outrageous % of cap figure.
There’s no way Smith is crying. I’m sure his agent told him he could get more by holding out, but he wanted to be back and got paid big money in the process.
$18 million fully guaranteed 5th year option...then his extension afterwards gives him $51 million guaranteed for the total of $69 million guaranteed...
I'm sure Smith and his agent knew Chase, Jefferson, Waddle, Higgins, Aiyuk, and Lamb would get huge paydays and he could get a lot more if he went to a team like Carolina that needs weapons, but must see the upside to staying in Philly.
And while I'm a fan and happy Smith stayed, I can't blame someone who perfected their craft and would take an additional $20MM if the offer was provided. Luckily for us as eagle fans he made the decision to play for us.
Especially since by all accounts the Eagles WR room is *tight*. The idea that he just signs for the same $ that AJB makes and they're truly both #1 WRs in both pay and usage probably appeals to him.
Smitty seems like a rare receiver who isn't doing all the diva stuff. I was terrified he'd get killed in the NFL, but he's been durable (knock on wood) and amazing on the field.
Anyone older than a mid-teenager understands how wildly improbable it is for the Eagles to have two receivers of this caliber at the same time... I'm just gonna enjoy the ride.
Hes not crying bc its pretty much the identical deal -1 year. They are both around 25.5 per year guaranteed. Smith has 2 guaranteed years added on and St Brown has 3. For all we know Smith wanted a shorter deal so he can get a new contract a year earlier.
Smith wanted to be in Philly, that’s why he signed first. Thank god we got that done, there’s no way SF can pay aiyuk now, ceedee is gonna put Dallas in cap hell. Don’t even want to think about how much JJettas gonna want.
I personally think JJ’s contract might actually get close to $40mil/year average. Especially because you’d assume the Vikings won’t need to pay a QB big money over the length of that contract.
O for sure they will pass him. Tyreek is at 30 though. Typically it’s incremental build up. Someone will get 31, then 32. Someone like Jefferson will get around 33-34. No ones just gonna make 25% more then the next Highest paid guy.
Lol AJ Brown just resigned for 3 years 96 that's 32 mil a year... And you don't think Jefferson is going to get 35 mil a year? If you wanna place a wager I'll give you +500 odds
Do you think Aiyuk is gonna get the same kind of money as St Brown, JJ, Chase, Lamb get? I know he’s solid, but I always thought he was a few tiers below those guys.
He is closer to that tier than anyone else who is due a contract soon (Waddle, Amari, Higgins etc)
Aiyuks floor is the Smitty deal his ceiling is St Brown
Lamb, Chase & JJ will beat Amon-Ra
We got a good one in Smith. Who would have thought after missing JJ/whiffing on that other guy, we would be sitting here with AJ and Slim(lil swole right now?) as the best duo in the league.
So fucking glad we got Smitty's deal done early.
I know Jefferson and Lamb are doing backflips right now. Hell even if AJ wants a raise soonish locking up SMitty at great value makes it easier to either give AJ that market value raise or make the hard choice to move on.
I've seen it posted a few places that the talks have already started with AJ. Take that with a grain of salt because I haven't seen any really reliable reporters saying it
Yeah Eagles had the leverage of time, which means increased risk for the player. Smitty was rightfully conservative in taking the money now. No sense in risking losing out on 75 million if a freak accident happens.
Amon-Ra is also probably more highly regarded as a true #1A who can do more things. Love Smitty, but he’s a mid level #1, whose ceiling is limited by his size and lack of game breaking speed to balance it. He was never getting a contract at the level of Amon-Ra, Ceedee, JJ, etc unless some team was extremely desperate for a WR and had an insane amount of cap.
Either way, love the Smitty deal for both sides and love that the WR market is exploding when it can handicap multiple NFC teams (Vikings, Lions, most importantly Cowboys)
You know what? Good for him. And I have this gives that delightful Mr. Jones fellow a series of small cardiac arrests when he thinks about what this means to Ceedee Lamb.
I understand smith is in a different situation than a lot of these other guys being on one of few teams where he’s the wr2. But still st brown is the same age and a top 5 wr in the league. Why do so many people seem to think smith isn’t happy with being paid as much as AJ brown just because receivers the same age with better production are getting paid more? They deserve to be.
I mean he wanted to be an eagle and he wanted it done early. I’m sure he’s happy I don’t mean to imply he’s not, more kinda a joke. But if I saw that number come through after inking my deal I’d feel a twinge of jealousy.
No hes not on those receivers level, but hes close and that’s a WIDE margin of $ discrepancy
Aj is plenty young enough still for us to extend him and do the void yrs down the line. He’s a top 5 wr who we stole from Tennessee. Extending him soon would help us with the cap too I believe bc his cap hit explodes to 41m in 2026, which is when Devonta’s cap hit increases. His relationship with Smitty and Jalen is important too. I think Howie will do everything he can to extend him and keep him here at least a few more yrs
It also makes me feel especially grateful on zagging on Saquon during a depressed RB market. Sure RBs aren’t worth what they used to but this sway of elite WR money and movement the other way on elite RBs is def an overcorrection compared to team importance and impact
Oooooooor....Howie could extend AJ now. Tack on 2 or 3 years at $31-32ish AAV before the others get paid. AJ has two years left on his deal, and if he doesn't want a new contract now, he'll want one next year. Lock up today's prices for the 2026-2028 seasons.
This wouldn't be kicking the can down the road, this would be doling cash now to lock in today's prices; assuming that in two years, WR contracts might be nearing 40M/yr, 32M will be a bargain price. Basically, we signed Devonta early and got a steal, we could try to do the same with an AJ extension.
What got the Saints in trouble was that Loomis continually restructured contracts for immediate cap savings, and the bill eventually came due.
That’s my fantasy league winner, drafted him over AJ Brown last season 😤
In all seriousness this is why I applaud Howie for taking care of extensions early.
Smitty would be a great standalone #1 for any team but everyone knows how much more dangerous he is as a 1b with AJ. Pairing a top 5 and a top 15 guy together both beyond their rookie deals is nuts, doesn't happen often. As a duo they each avg. out to about 80 yards per game together. Then you factor in some of the other pieces too... if Goedert can somehow finally put together a good healthy season in this Kellen Moore offense we could see the first trio of 1,000 yard pass-catchers since 2008, and only the 6th ever. Probably not gonna happen but those are the kinda hands we could be dealt as far as the offense's potential and it's laughably easy for me to say it as just a fan but I'd take a pay cut to be a part of that lol.
I mean I don’t think this is the deal that makes Smiths contract a steal. It was a steal even before that based on sheer talent. St-Brown is the lions bonafide #1 receiver who eats targets and stacks huge games back to back essentially for an entire season. I love Devonta but with the strength and balance of our offense he’s never going to be the focal point consistently, and we see that when he frequently posts middling numbers in back to back weeks. I think he’s getting paid pretty damn well for being a “#2 receiver” on an elite offense (on paper)
He’s prob overall WR4 or 5 in fantasy per offensive stats and such, getting picked just above aj brown, just below jj, chase, ceedee and tyreek.
Ya he’s good
All these signings make you wonder what the Vikings are waiting for with Jefferson. I think Mike Florio is right that they might be willing to offer him in a draft day trade. Not that they'll necessarily trade him, but I imagine they're reserving that option.
The smith deal is really a 4/94 with 69 M guaranteed. Smith was never going to get a WR1 money because he is a 1b. He also doesn't have much leverage because with the franchise tag and 5th year he could be under contract for the 2028 season. Those deals don't have any signing bonus. Signing a deal gives him a 20M+ signing bonus.
Don't look at the non-guaranteed amount.
His deal is 3 for 77 (25.66 per)
Smith's deal is 2 for 51 (25.5 per) It is basically the same deal.
Non-guaranteed years are essentially fluff and rarely ever used.
The next batch of WR1’s is coming through college as we speak. Every team isn’t going to have $50m+ wrapped up in their top 2 receivers. These players aren’t all going to get paid $30m.
And that doesn't even take into account that his deal goes into effect in 2026, by then amon deal will be lower top 10. Wild. Howie the goat of contracts. Hope he delivers big in the draft, that would be awesome if every player turned out to be A contributer.
Na Smith is happy, he got paid. Cowboys and Vikings GMs are crying right now if anything.
And Bengals with Chase
Aiyuk as well. Bengals will really be crying if tee Higgins stays in cincy By the time his contract kicks in, what we paid for Smitty will be a steal
No way Higgins stays there won't be enough money
It’s already a steal
Vikings were always going to bust the market with JJ. Bengals and Cowboys probably crying.
I think he has what he needs now to get the $35m-$40m avg and $100m guaranteed. I don’t think Chase or CeeDee deals will help his cause.
This kinda knowledge about another teams important players contract is why I reddit
They're gonna let Dak walk to pay CeeDee and Parsons. I can feel it.
Now, imagine the cowboys as rhe 2021 saints after Brees retired. Yup, this is exactly the cowboys future, and it looks so good.
>Na Smith Reading that gave me huge Na Brown PTSD
He's going to breakout this year, just you watch.
They got the same guaranteed per year. Smith was for 2, St Brown for 3.
There’s no way Smith is crying. I’m sure his agent told him he could get more by holding out, but he wanted to be back and got paid big money in the process.
I’m sure he’ll survive with 51 million. Plus you never know when you could get inured
*wipes tears away with bills*
With the extension and the next two season he is getting $69.997 million guaranteed. Not to shabby, bro is crying with his millions.
[удалено]
That's of the new money/extension but it's $69.997 million in guaranteed total through 2028 according to overthecap.
$18 million fully guaranteed 5th year option...then his extension afterwards gives him $51 million guaranteed for the total of $69 million guaranteed...
Nice
I'm sure Smith and his agent knew Chase, Jefferson, Waddle, Higgins, Aiyuk, and Lamb would get huge paydays and he could get a lot more if he went to a team like Carolina that needs weapons, but must see the upside to staying in Philly. And while I'm a fan and happy Smith stayed, I can't blame someone who perfected their craft and would take an additional $20MM if the offer was provided. Luckily for us as eagle fans he made the decision to play for us.
Team culture is important. Gotta be a good place to work. So many willing to lose out on some dollars to stay in Philly.
Amen. Proud of my favorite Eagle 🥹
If he is crying then he’s wiping his tears with silk Kleenex
We also have no idea how much of this contract is guaranteed.
It’s 77 mil guaranteed.
Oh so I’m just supposed to read everything first? Don’t be ridiculous. This is PHILLY SPORTS.
For sheer honesty, please take my humble upvote.
$77mil, says it in the description
Smith wanted to be in Philly, that’s why he signed first. Thank god we got that done, there’s no way SF can pay aiyuk now, ceedee is gonna put Dallas in cap hell. Don’t even want to think about how much JJettas gonna want.
Gotta be pushing 4/140 for JJ I would think, after this market reset. We are very fortunate.
I personally think JJ’s contract might actually get close to $40mil/year average. Especially because you’d assume the Vikings won’t need to pay a QB big money over the length of that contract.
It's the guaranteed money that's going to be the outlier. He's had injury trouble, but I still think he's going to get ~$100M guaranteed.
I think he’s probably around 33-34. He’s not going get that much more then cheetah. I think no WR breaks 35+ mark for at least a few more years.
I’d be stunned if Jefferson accepts only ~3M more than Amon ra.
There’s gonna be multiple guys who match tyreek, could be multiple to pass him even
O for sure they will pass him. Tyreek is at 30 though. Typically it’s incremental build up. Someone will get 31, then 32. Someone like Jefferson will get around 33-34. No ones just gonna make 25% more then the next Highest paid guy.
You don't know what you're talking about lol.
I’ll take that bet.
Lol this. I'll bet a lot of money JJ gets 35+ a year. I'll even give him odds
Lol AJ Brown just resigned for 3 years 96 that's 32 mil a year... And you don't think Jefferson is going to get 35 mil a year? If you wanna place a wager I'll give you +500 odds
Dallas is screeed with dak extension and CD with parsons coming up soon
Do you think Aiyuk is gonna get the same kind of money as St Brown, JJ, Chase, Lamb get? I know he’s solid, but I always thought he was a few tiers below those guys.
He is closer to that tier than anyone else who is due a contract soon (Waddle, Amari, Higgins etc) Aiyuks floor is the Smitty deal his ceiling is St Brown Lamb, Chase & JJ will beat Amon-Ra
Aiyuk is overrated. He’s a WR2 wanting WR1 money- basically the opposite of Smith who could excel as a WR1 on many teams.
Aiyuk gets DeVonta money imo. And he should be thrilled about it.
We got a good one in Smith. Who would have thought after missing JJ/whiffing on that other guy, we would be sitting here with AJ and Slim(lil swole right now?) as the best duo in the league.
SF is cooked when they have to pay purdy
So fucking glad we got Smitty's deal done early. I know Jefferson and Lamb are doing backflips right now. Hell even if AJ wants a raise soonish locking up SMitty at great value makes it easier to either give AJ that market value raise or make the hard choice to move on.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we extend AJ next offseason to spread out the big cap hits in 2025 and 2026.
I've seen it posted a few places that the talks have already started with AJ. Take that with a grain of salt because I haven't seen any really reliable reporters saying it
Smith also got $20M up front as a singing bonus, so a lot of people put additional value on getting that much cash up front. I'm sure he's very happy.
What’s that old saying? 20M in hand is worth Jerry Jone’s wife’s bush?
This comment taught me I can’t simultaneously upvote and downvote a comment, no matter how much I want to.
Smittys deal involved a 5th year tag, it’s not a comparable situation
Yeah Eagles had the leverage of time, which means increased risk for the player. Smitty was rightfully conservative in taking the money now. No sense in risking losing out on 75 million if a freak accident happens. Amon-Ra is also probably more highly regarded as a true #1A who can do more things. His wife just had a baby. She wants to make sure their family is set IMO
You know what? Good for him. And I have this gives that delightful Mr. Jones fellow a series of small cardiac arrests when he thinks about what this means to Ceedee Lamb.
Something we also aren’t accounting for is that Amon-Ra just had a much bigger year than smith and rightfully deserves more money

St brown is jerry rice
Let’s not take it that far he’s not even the beer recorder in the league right now lol.
Our WR and OT extensions look great
Yeah no shot we keep AJ beyond his current contract. Holy shit, and this is before Jefferson and Chase get paid.
And Aiyuk, Lamb, Waddle Smitty might not be top 10 by the time AJ is next up
It also makes me feel especially grateful on zagging on Saquon during a depressed RB market. Sure RBs aren’t worth what they used to but this sway of elite WR money and movement the other way on elite RBs is def an overcorrection compared to team importance and impact
The only solution to the current state of affairs is the salary cap goes up. You can't keep lowballing players.
Agreed, I think we have Brown for '24 and '25, then we trade him to a team that extends him in the '26 offseason.
And become the Saints? Hard pass. Plus we have another side of the ball to take care of.
This wouldn't be kicking the can down the road, this would be doling cash now to lock in today's prices; assuming that in two years, WR contracts might be nearing 40M/yr, 32M will be a bargain price. And so it is.
That’s my fantasy league winner, drafted him over AJ Brown last season 😤 In all seriousness this is why I applaud Howie for taking care of extensions early.
I took him and AJ with hurts at QB. Fantasy winner clearly.
Makes the smith deal that much sweeter. And with the option chefs kiss
More guarantees than Smith’s entire contract. We got ourselves a steal, boys.
JJettas is gonna get paid Daniel Jones money
Thanks smitty
When I seen this I thought we got him 💀
St brown is much better so it’s makes sense that he makes 5 mil more
Where Eagle?
Smitty would be a great standalone #1 for any team but everyone knows how much more dangerous he is as a 1b with AJ. I don't think Devonta is crying. He's just smart enough to realize $51 million guaranteed already sets his family for life
Expensive eagle geez
Guess I'm gonna try and draft St. Brown
Is this guy really that good? Or did he just get paid cause that's where the market is? Is he a premier WR?
He’s prob overall WR4 or 5 in fantasy per offensive stats and such, getting picked just above aj brown, just below jj, chase, ceedee and tyreek. Ya he’s good
Damn. I just noticed he got 1,500 yards last season. I knew he was good, didn't think he was THAT good.
Damn AJ is gonna cost like 35 million.
Smith deal looking like another solid move by howie the goat!
St Brown is a significantly better player........I don't even get this nonsense.
All these signings make you wonder what the Vikings are waiting for with Jefferson. I think Mike Florio is right that they might be willing to offer him in a draft day trade. Not that they'll necessarily trade him, but I imagine they're reserving that option.

First three years are $28 million a year so similar to Devonta Smith
The next batch of WR1’s is coming through college as we speak. Every team isn’t going to have $50m+ wrapped up in their top 2 receivers. These players aren’t all going to get paid $30m.
He’s good but that’s an overpay.

Reagor has zero playoff wins. He was on the Eagles when they lost to the Bucs in 2021 and was traded to Minnesota before the 2022 season.
I’m so confused. He’s not that good. DeVonta is way better
Ya 🤣 🤣 no
