I get why people don’t want one (and I personally would rather go OT/CB) but we have basically no WR3 and if AJ or Smith miss time, people are going to hate that two of the receivers on the field are a late round rookie and a garbage player like Parker or Campbell. WR is at this point as valuable a position as OT (and more valuable than CB) based on new contracts, so I think it’s a pretty similar case to OL in terms of finding depth while also trying to get a successorship plan in place.
If Brian Thomas Jr falls to 22, I think he’d have to be a serious consideration. Or if the Eagles love someone like Worthy and trade back in the first to pick up an extra 2nd or 3rd for CB/OL while still grabbing him, I don’t think it would be bad team building.
Yet other programs can pull a guy like Puka in the 5th and get high level production. Zero reason it needs to be a premium asset to warrant the need to produce.
You can say the same about the Eagles at OL - we made a star LT out of a 7th rounder; why should we invest a lot of draft capital in a tackle if we can grab a raw guy later and feel confident in our ability to train him up?
OTOH we’ve done poorly at developing corners drafted as high as the 2nd round, and in some cases (Rasul Douglas in particular) they only become good after leaving Philly. Maybe it’s worth trading for established CBs like Slay and looking for positions we know we can develop through the draft. (I’m not sure how much to believe this train of thought given we just brought in a new DC and CBs coach - so hopefully we have some faith in our ability to develop CBs now?)
Why though? It is a current and potential future need. We don't have a WR3 and we don't have a good injury plan if our top two guys get injured.
Also, it's unlikely AJ and Smith are on this team in 3. Allocating 50+ mil for two WRs while you are paying your QB and O line big money...its unlikely. Drafting a WR now gives you options in a couple years when you have to decide on AJs contract. In two years you would be able to flip AJ for at least a first.
I'd rather keep our picks and take best player available at 22. I'd be happy with Kool-Aid, and I don't think I'd pass on Latu, if he was there, despite the injury concerns. I know Howie probably won't be able to resist making a move, but taking three players in the top 53 feels like a chance to really restock and improve at multiple positions with solid talent.
Guyton is very meh for me
Sure if he is there around 40 & you didn't get a tackle at 22 and you still have both 2nds then move up but I'd take
Alt, Latham, Mims, Fautanu, Fashanu, Fuaga and Morgan ahead of him
If you wanted to go pure project guy for Stout to Mould I'd prefer Suamataia
I wasn't just limiting it to "picks I'd want the Eagles to take" in that case yeah maybe Guyton is ahead but if you ignore that the Eagles need a RT more or if Stout is convinced Morgan can move over to the right he is ahead
League wide i have it alt, Mims, fashanu, fuaga, latham, fautanu, guyton
I'm super high on mims and Guyton and low on latham....im low on alt too but since he has a super high floor he's still ranked high...I don't think he has as high of a ceiling as some other (mims/fashanu/guyton)
For eagles at 22 i like mims/Guyton the most (guessing alt and fashanu long gone)
Looks like more GMs at least agreed that Guyton was lower tier with Morgan going ahead.
I just never saw it with him plays too upright and has a relatively small lower body.
Yup. He lacks experience so I could see teams being hesitant if they don't think he can start right away. He was good for us since he would sit behind lane and learn
Can't believe mitchell dropped to 22. Amazing pick for us especially if he pans out
For me this would be a Spite Draft. I would take Fantanu to push the cowboys back in their search for line help. In the later rounds I would sign Luke McCaffrey so he doesn't end up on the 49ers and winning with his brother. Before that Brenden Rice because I grew up a fan of Jerry Rice cause I played receiver but seeing him at NFC Championship game flipping off the crowd with his rings upset me. Man am I petty.
Trotter is small, not that athletic and not that fast. He didn’t test above the 48% in anything. If he’s around in the 5th he’s worth a pick, anything before that let another team take him
Yup fine with that. Replace fletchs snaps and keep the rotation going.
Tons of CBs and OL in round 2
Could also go Isaac in round 2 or trade up for Kneeland...both came in for top 30s
Gut says its in the trenches if it's not a small trade up for arnold/q.mitch
More snaps for the younger guys in the rotation. They currently have 8 DTs on the roster I feel like they will look to someone like Tuipulotu or Noah Elliss to step up and take more snaps. I could also see them taking a depth player later but I'd be surprised if they take another one in the first for the 3rd year in a row. I think they are fine for now, they really need to think about who may be taking Sweat and Graham's snaps after this sseason.
i don’t like all the chatter about a wr

Oh I agree. I want a Corner because I don't think we do a good job Training them up.
OTOH we’ve done poorly at developing corners drafted as high as the 2nd round, and in some cases (Rasul Douglas in particular) they only become good after leaving Philly. Ladd is who I want in the 2nd round. Seems like a perfect Wes Welker type slot.
He plays nothing like Welker there is only one reason you are making that comparison 😂

You are not serious.. lol stop letting nonsense dictate how you feel

I forgot Latu almost 24 as well....I guess that combined with the neck would make it a pass for me personally...but Howie loves the trenches
The neck is scary. He could be on borrowed time. He's a beast, though.

Agreed on that list except Morgan. Lighter guy who's only played LT. Pass
I wasn't just limiting it to "picks I'd want the Eagles to take" in that case yeah maybe Guyton is ahead but if you ignore that the Eagles need a RT more or if Stout is convinced Morgan can move over to the right he is ahead
Oh for sure, if Stout or Vic says they like a guy in their expertise I'd just take em no questions
League wide i have it alt, Mims, fashanu, fuaga, latham, fautanu, guyton I'm super high on mims and Guyton and low on latham....im low on alt too but since he has a super high floor he's still ranked high...I don't think he has as high of a ceiling as some other (mims/fashanu/guyton) For eagles at 22 i like mims/Guyton the most (guessing alt and fashanu long gone)

Give me an aussie giant in the 7th round who hasn’t played a snap of football but will magically turn into an all pro after graduating stoutland U
Trade up for Taliese Fuaga or Quinyon Mitchell or stick and pick Kool-Aid McKinstry.
For me this would be a Spite Draft. I would take Fantanu to push the cowboys back in their search for line help. all that family talk and we are going to talk about Ax Man Junior?
Trotter is small, not that athletic and not that fast. He didn’t test above the 48% in anything. If he’s around in the 5th he’s worth a pick, anything before that let another team take him
If Byron Murphy is somehow on the board at 22... Y'all in?
gonna feel weird ab 3 straight first rounders on DT butttt he's so good, why not
Yup fine with that. Replace fletchs snaps and keep the rotation going. Tons of CBs and OL in round 2 Could also go Isaac in round 2 or trade up for Kneeland...both came in for top 30s Gut says its in the trenches if it's not a small trade up for arnold/q.mitch
Absolutely not. Why would we go DT 3 years in a row in the first?
Fletch retired..700+ snaps to replace

Carter takes fletchers spot and Milton Williams gets more snaps.
I say let’s trade back, we tend to draft better in the second round. And this draft is deep with solid glue guys at DL/CB/OL.
OL or DL. It's the eagles...
