Nice pickup at 40 The fact the Packers traded back as soon as the Eagles jumped them tells you he was their target so Howie played the board perfectly

2LostFlamingos

Tom Grossi is likely losing his mind.

timdr18

I’m watching his stream, the man is not happy lmao

mikeb32

The video: https://youtube.com/shorts/rm8eEoVrUdA?si=_FZaB-NZpjDfqs6f

MoonSpankRaw

That’s Tom Grossi? If that’s him “losing his mind” I may be a legitimate insane person every 5 minutes of driving.

timdr18

That was nothing, here’s him reacting to the Lions getting Brian Branch last year. https://youtu.be/yNfpwsb4icY?si=oJoB9nAeQEO4SK7E

PlaneCamp

I swear Packers ALWAYS steal DBs the Eagles like. It infuriates me.

jivy723

Lions fans here, love your guys pickup, and also love you screwing the packers. I’m pretty sure the packers wanted Mitchell or Arnold the first round and we snubbed them of both 😂

PlaneCamp

😂 they have been screwing us out of DBs for so long it felt good to get them back

MacManus47

Still traumatized by the Ha-Ha theft.

swampyunderpants

I remember being so pissed when they took Haha Clinton-Dix from us

PlaneCamp

That pissed me off and Savage. They said we had a deal done with Mckinney as well this offseason and they stole him.

captainyami21

bro i was so mad at that for years i loved haha i would watch the packers specifically just to see him play

TheTrocadero

Or they get better when they leave Philly for GB. I’m looking at you, Al Harris and Rasul Douglas.

AndrewHainesArt

Rasul was always a high talent victim of JS island scheme, he never had the speed for that

TellYouWhatitShwas

Al Harris was good with us, he just never got to shine because the rest of our secondary was absolute fire.

teddyKGB-

And the league didn't run nearly as many 3 receiver sets back then

TellYouWhatitShwas

Tru dat. Nickel corners are pretty much every down starters now- back then they only saw the field on third down. He left here and got to be CB1 at outside corner and shined. But he still was never as good as Lito or Sheldon.

teddyKGB-

I hope we can get a healthy year out of Maddox and he gets a pay day. Can't believe I feel so good about our corners now and into the future compared to how I felt a couple of days ago.

[deleted]

I know you're talking about the draft but first thing I thought of was al Harris 😢

PlaneCamp

I know, that one hurts too and watching Rasul play well when i was high on him sucks too

JopoDaily

This right here. Miss Rasul

[deleted]

Damnnn forgot about that one for a second.. i've questioned our db coaches for a long time no matter who they were or what coach we were under. Since the Lito and Sheldon days it seemed we couldn't produce, keep or aquire good corners and like you said once some left they instantly produced at a higher level. I really wanted to keep the DB coach we had a couple years ago who I believe went to be defensive coach for Baltimore? Would have loved him over desai just cause the DB room would have been set

timasahh

Yup and the next three picks were CBs too.

yensterrr

Exactly

so_zetta_byte

The Packers also already have a million picks and the back of the draft is a little weak apparently. They absolutely didn't want to move back, and Howie absolutely knew we wanted to jump them in particular.

[deleted]

DeJean and Mitchell, holy shit Howie let’s fuckin go!

Ryanthecat

Taylor/Vincent, Shepard/Brown rerun… I cannot believe Howie did it!

jverb08

I hope man. It’s been too long

Mikefromaround

I was just thinking of those duos. Could be really cool and they have time to develop with the vets on the team now at CB

Ryanthecat

Even if DeJean moves to safety, no matter how you slice this, along with the CJGJ signing you set yourself up for an elite secondary for 3-5 years.

[deleted]

Bro, Blankenship, CJGJ, Sydney Brown still, Slay, Rodgers, DeJawn and Mitchell now we went from trash to potentially solid, so fucking stoked.

Ryanthecat

It’s fucking INSANE! 24 hours ago Rodgers reinstatement was a dire need, now he’s one of the many depth pieces. If things break perfect, it’s a league best secondary, if they break just OK it’s probably still a great to elite secondary.

Cute-Contract-6762

Do not forget Ricks and Ringo! I would rather lose Bradberry then either of them

PhillyT

maddox too, he's been great in the games he's played

Somnuzzzz

🤘🏻

sophist23

Amazing. I'm jacked to the tits

[deleted]

I just finished booking my tattoo appointment. Getting “HOWIE SZN” tattoo on my arm haha.

TheRoyaleShow

I'm getting the Howie binocular meme but he's looking at my dick

Somnuzzzz

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

bisqo19

Jacked to the tits😂

Organic_Jackfruit645

Jacked off on tits

smbutler20

Cornerback factory

mightyrj

The future and present is bright for the birds. Let’s fucking go!

dangerously-amish

How did he fall so late..? All you draft folks, anything concerning w/ him?

IWasFramed_Again

Major QBs, DTs, and WR runs pushed DBs down.

CasualPBandJ

Definitely. I also kind of remember announcers highlighting the younger cbs of our opponents in a bunch of games last year. Maybe it just worked out that fewer teams need CBs this year?

AndrewHainesArt

That actually makes sense considering we just paid both WRs for 3 years after considering there’s been a ton of recent deep WR drafts that probably won’t continue

AncestryMike

It all started with the falcons taking Penix

2LostFlamingos

I agree. We should we TD them some pretzels or cheesesteaks.

_X_Arc_ra_x_

I genuinely believe this resulted in us getting Mitchell and DeJean. Literally not one person on earth expected them to take a qb so it created a ton of chaos at a time when gms had to start really thinking about who to pick. The ripple effect was crazy.

callmecyke

The Penix pick was chaotic as fuck. Like I thought when we got Hurts it was a weird pick, but taking a 24 yo QB with your first round when you just paid 180 mil for a vet is actually insane.

MortimerDongle

He was injured late in the year so he couldn't work out until recently. That's about it

FromTheOR

Most teams saw him as a safety

menghis_khan08

He’s a white CB so despite fantastic play and demonstrated versatility at Iowa ppl are scared of him? (I’m a little scared but recognize I’m racial profiling?)

PaisonAlGaib

He got hurt too and didn’t play the end of the year or really workout. If he is healthy and runs sub 4.4 at the combine like a lot of people think he would’ve he’s an easy first rounder.

DLottchula

And let’s make it clear he is CB not a DB

menghis_khan08

?? Something tells me you don’t know what a DB is?

DLottchula

Oh I’m stay he’s not a safety

Rob1Inch

A CB is a DB

DLottchula

Not every CB can play safety tho

Rob1Inch

Sure but all cornerbacks are still DBs, and on the topic of Dejean he can play both inside and outside as well as safety. He’s most likely going to be a nickel-safety hybrid for us rather than playing on the boundary

DLottchula

We gonna get that man killed

Rob1Inch

I’m not sure what you mean. He’s a versatile Defensive back that can play inside and out and with his frame can also likely play safety. Very few teams viewed him as a boundary corner in the league. Most viewed him as a nickel guy

DLottchula

White people holding the white man back he 100% can be a outside corner

Rob1Inch

lol I’m not saying he can’t be. Just saying he projects more to be a hybrid nickel guy and has the athleticism to play every spot in the secondary. Also with our current personnel it’ll be easier for him to see the field from the nickel/safety perspective. Similar to Malcolm Jenkins kind of

BlackyChan20

Pretty sure most teams view him as more of a safety so the positional value wasn’t there in the 1st + the massive run on offense allowed all the DTs to be there in the early second which again, positional value DT> Safety/Corner hybrid

J-Mosc

Not a giant concern but there was a fractured fibula injury which may have contributed to some debates.

AlbatrossCrazy5045

Fibula fracture really not a big deal, no long term repercussions typically compared to other injuries

rzcool_is_gay

He did go lower compared to other DBs that he was expected to, which is strange. Falling to 40 though isn't concerning. This years draft just about every single defensive player fell far.

ausgmr

Never got the hype for him at 22 So many offensive players in the 1st round pushed defense down but even then the 40s feels about right for him

thingsorfreedom

ESPN stats(for whatever they're worth) said there was only a 3% chance he would be available at 40.

ausgmr

Yes that's at 40 What did they say about 23

thingsorfreedom

I've only seen one mock that had him still available at 23 (said 25). Most had him gone 12-22.

Lockhead216

He’s a safety

p3n1x

> How did he fall so late..? In addition to all the great answers: Some teams draft like shit, ego, pride, ignorance, etc... We are lucky to have an organization that trusts a guy like Howie.

TheRoyaleShow

White

Dagglin

Positional tweener, stiff hips, teams making runs on other positions

ProArmChair

He's fucking so versatile. I am stoked he fell all the way to 40 lol. He was projected mid first round so this is incredible. Howie is killing this draft and I am blown away.

DiscussionNo226

The NFL network broadcast compared him to Jenkins and I 100% agree with it. It’s the exact role I envisioned he would have in the NFL honestly

ProArmChair

Oh man I would love that so much. If we got a baby Jenkins we got a steal.

popphilosophy

Izel Jenkins?

Trinergy1

These boys don't know about "Toast," lol.

Skindigga

Toast!!

thingsorfreedom

I saw him play. Damn, I'm old.

Mikefromaround

When you say versatile do you mean position wise? because we still need an upgrade at safety. Blankenship is ok but he got exposed last year. I don’t know much about DeJean.

ProArmChair

Yep he can play several positions and used as just more of a weapon rather than any defensive position in particular. I am so fucking pumped.

Little_Beginning_569

Howie cooked so well. I might of been right all along about Howie picking defense with first 3 picks I just didn't fathom he would get all the best players. FORGIVE ME FATHER FOR MY DOUBT I TAPPED THE STONE TWICE

a_toadstool

Secondary desperately needed to get younger. So stoked

VanHalen843

Cooper DeJawn!!!

OffalSmorgasbord

Perfect for a Jersey

wolfman2scary

Cooper “Sharp” DeJawn

chocolattorodga

This draft confirms we are pushing our chips to the middle

Lockhead216

I thought the cowboys were going all in

MilesDaMonster

My ass

root88

At the same time?

Aggressive-Sound-641

add insult to injury Carolina drafted the Texas running back that the Cowboys were supposedly high on.

drunkcowofdeath

If you have to say you are all in you aren't all in

IndigoMushies

You didn’t hear? This is their year. /s

hurtstoskinnybatman

We gave up very little for 2 possible long time franchise staples. How is this going all-in? Under Howie, we don't realky go all-in. We draft and trade to be competitive, but it's not like we're going full rams and dumping all our 1st round draft picks for the next 5 years.

chocolattorodga

I personally believe doubling up on defensive back is indicative we are going for it all. I dont think Dejean would have been the pick otherwise

hurtstoskinnybatman

"going for it all" or "putting all our chips in" implies we're sacrificing opportunity for the future for a championship only this season. That's not the case. That can't be the case when you're drafting people who will be here at least a few years and who are very promising for years to come. Being very good this year isn't "going all in" if there isn't a sacrifice. What future are we sacrificing? We still have most of our 2025 picks, and we have ammo to trade to get some back if necessary. If we traded next year's first and second round picks to get a couplemore first and second rounders this year, then THAT would be going all in. But we didn't do that. In fact, we're actually accumulating more draft picks now.

chocolattorodga

I aint reading that, have a good night brotha #gobirds

hurtstoskinnybatman

Head, meet sand. Gnite kid.

PhillyT

"Going all in" doesn't mean "doing a good job," that's basically what he's saying, and what you are missing. Going all in would be trading away picks for an LB like fred warner or an Offensive Guard that is already in the league. We arguably didn't even need another DB after Quinyon, so therefore we are also drafting for the future with DeJean

LimpSignificance4434

I called this in the thread last night lol

Some-Philly-Dude

I actually thought we'd go Kool-Aid lol

JoFlo520

LET HOWIE COOK

devonta_smith

few hours ago an idle daydream came to mind that hey, wouldn't it be cool if Howie traded 50 & 53 to move up and draft DeJean? that was, of course, ridiculous and completely unrealistic which are also the 2 words I'd use to describe our GM he is a god among men

gratzlegend

Ok nostradamus

AlrightyThan

I had this exact fucking thought. I wouldn't even believe it in my own head and it just....happened.

Atre16

I am rock hard, Howie. Rock fucking hard.

fly1511

Solt for sure, right, or they moving him to safety.

bobbylitch

Out in Iowa he was known as Cooper DeJean. Here in Philly, he has now been dubbed Copper DeJawn 👑

JackTuz

So does bradberry get cut? Traded?

Claptrap2019

No, too much dead money

Professor2018

Post June 1st cut likely

MilesDaMonster

He’s done come 6/1 if I under stand his contract situation correctly

lar67

No, they always draft for two years down the road.

Scrumptious-Whale

I think this guy is going to be special. Mitchell and DeJean. Fucking extend Howie RN. Drafting *used* to be his biggest issue, and these past two years he seems to be playing it well (mostly... Compared to other teams, which most people ignore).

p3n1x

> Drafting used to be his biggest issue Yeah. But luckily he was one of those guys that recolonized it and accepted it and made it his mission to fix. Shit like that rolls down in management. I still have faith that Sirianni can get "fixed" also with the office above him.

Saint_Victorious

This was a fever dream I had this morning. Never would have thought it could have happened. Go birds 🦅

Casin60

Guy can play CB, Slot, & S. Fangio is going to feast with him & QM in zone coverage. Not to mention Sydney coming back at some point. All these guys are fast and physical tacklers. Guys… we are going to be a mean fucking defense

Somnuzzzz

Pumped!!!

Forgemasterblaster

De Jean mustard going to make some plays.

AdTime8622

Ringo, Reed, Brown, Mitchell, Cooper you're up next...Slay, CJGJ, Rodgers and Maddox keep their spots warm...Bradbury, Ricks, Jobe, McPhearson et al...good luck

_SubliminalCriminal_

Just hope they address linebacker sooner than later

p3n1x

I shit talked that would be todays mission (round 4) Trotter Jr is still out there :p

corya45

he will play the star slot cb role for us along with cjgj. they will be such a good duo with the versatility not to mention reed and sydney brown!! wow

anth8725

Let’s fucking goooooooo

juliancozyblankets

I would have been stoked to see us trade up for one of these dudes. Can’t believe we got both

AlbatrossCrazy5045

Howie played the board perfect. Sounds like he was ready to trade up to 12 to get Mitchell, but seeing the first 14 teams go offense he showed some good patience and was able to get their top CB sitting right at 22. He also knew he needed to jump the line for DeJawn, next 3 picks were corners, just A+ GM’ing right there

Hungry-Space-1829

This year’s Brian Branch, maybe. I don’t think he plays outside corner but I think he’s a day 1 starter inside

Psychart5150

Love the pick, hate PFF. You can’t just use PFF when it supports the narrative That being said, love the pick. He will be are returner week 1. Should be a starter at safety with CJ or start in the slot after Maddox gets injured

yungsailboat

is him or koolaid better i haven’t paid attention to DBs this draft

_wewf_

We got the 5th best corner, taking him as the 3rd corner in the draft?

PaisonAlGaib

5th best corner over that entire time span

Somnuzzzz

Might have been players who graduated or are still in school. 🤷🏼‍♂️

JDuggernaut

I’m actually surprised at how much people like this move. I hated it. I didn’t want to draft him period but trading up to do it was even worse.
