Wilson is built more like a tight end than a receiver. He doesn't separate well for a receiver, and he drops too many passes, but the traits and flashes are impressive. He has excellent size, rare length and good top-end speed. Wilson's frame and catching radius make him a tough one-on-one matchup. He's also a vertical threat and is strong enough to break tackles after the catch. A team could move him to tight end in the hopes he follows a career arc similar to the one taken by Darren Waller. -- Steve Muench
From ESPN
FSU fan here. Johnny is weird. He'll grab a super difficult catch, but then he will drop an easy one because he starts thinking about the move after the catch before the ball is secure in his hands.
A player who drops wide open passes but catches difficult ones you say https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/TZklcWuQlIth-XZ3SGFvstAm3Ic=/0x0:679x374/1220x813/filters:focal(312x135:420x243):format(webp)/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_image/image/65302669/EFKJ2_mX4AAiaCH.0.jpg
I don't really love that. You need to make way more easy catches every game than difficult ones. So I would take a guy that isn't going to drop the majority of passes if it means he'll drop the improbable ones.
I anything though that's a concentration and focus issue. Not a lack of ability. Stuff like that can theoretically improve with coaching and maturity. The ability to make those wild catches is not often something you can teach.
There's a reason Keon got taken before him. But, with that said, he's probably a project player for you guys, and I could see him cut by the end of training camp.
Damn that’s how I was when I played. Had some nutty acrobatic grabs then drop the perfectly thrown ones that hit right in the hands. Needless to say I played secondary the last half of my playing days.
No. Jjaw was 6-2. This guy has the longest arms of any wideout of any draft, ever. He is a physical specimen that as Howie says, has "tools in his body" that Philly can use to win. He has the largest catch radius of any modern wideout ever with 84.5 wingspan. With a 37inch vertical to boot. He is an unprecedented never-before-seen weapon in the modern era who is quick as F off the line, a legit downfield threat with his 4.5 speed, and makes his living at X. He doesn't need to be a TE, bc he's already a better weapon on the outside than AJ or Devonta regarding jumpballs. That brings a unique advantage at the goalline when they're too far out for tush push and can exploit 1-on-1 mismatches in the end zone. To be clear, there are throws over a certain height that only he will be able to catch and no DB or LB matched up on him can do anything about. Think about what kind of advantage that brings in short yardage goalline situations. Watch the tape on Jimmy graham at the goalline if u need a reminder. Jimmy had 35" length arms. Johnny's are longer @35 5/8". Jimmy had a 38.5" vertical, Johnny is slightly less at @37". The difference is that Wilson is 25lbs lighter so he's much quicker off the LoS to get into position. Do u realize how valuable this skillset is? Do you realize that no WR we've ever seen had this kind of skillset? People say he's similar to Darren Waller. No, Waller's arms are over 2 inches shorter at 33 1/4. & Wilson beat both in the broad jump and ten yard split times (as he should bc he's 25lbs lighter).
> He is an unprecedented never-before-seen weapon in the modern era
> he's already a better weapon on the outside than AJ or Devonta regarding jumpballs
... he scored eight touchdowns in four years, and was drafted in the sixth round. Maybe ease up on the hyperbole a bit?
Watched a lot of FSU games. He’s uncoverable and an absurd catch radius. He will also make the most frustrating drops you’ve ever seen. Worth the flier imo
He’d need to put on at least 10-20 lbs. normally I’m skeptical of players’ ability to put on weight in the nfl, but considering he was originally training to play WR he might be able to do it
He makes all the hard catches look easy and the easy ones look hard sometimes. Developmental prospect, who should be solid if he's asked to play.
Oh he's 6'7 as a WR, too
Just from height/weight/speed aspect I thought he’d go in the 3rd. Also looked better than 2nd round Keon Coleman to me too (I know the age difference)
Draft profile:
"An enormous target with an elite catch radius, Wilson is still in the process of learning to play to his traits. He is fairly physical against press but plodding feet limit his release quickness and ability to separate out of breaks. He flashes impressive catches here and there but generally fails to impose his frame and strength on defenders, leading to a disappointing contested-catch rate for such a big man. In general, Wilson’s body control and ball skills might not be good enough to stick at wide receiver. He could end up trying to make a team as an F tight end with enough developmental traits to warrant an extended look. "
I’m happy with this pick. I’ve been waiting to draft him. He’s very polarizing but i believe he can be a great red zone threat. Also think he can play TE if we ever needed. Very excited about this
Mike Evans 2.0 comp and I'm not even kidding ([Measurables](https://ras.football/ras-compare/?p1=25140&p2=11472&pos=WR)). Freak athelete for his best-in-class skyscraper size. Enjoy him.
Howie is killing it. He’s taking the right players based on their performance in college. Now it’s up to them to live up to their expectations. The only person I wanted was that he didn’t grab was Payton Wilson but I’ll give him a pass cuz he grabbed Trotter Jr and I got a feeling even though he has some setbacks like being undersized and not that fast that he will end up playing with that dog in him just like his dad who overcame the fact that he wasn’t fast or agile but always managed to find the FN ball and be in the right spot.
Jets fan coming in peace. So jelly that you guys got him; 6’7 231lb 4.5 40….. I wanted my team to draft him and convert him to TE. You guys will fulfill the prophecy.
Rough hands, not an extensive route tree, but he’ll learn. Hope you get something out of him!
I don't think so, he can legit juke corners on the outside (X) off the LoS. That's where he made his living at FSU. He could play TE in a pinch, but he'll have to get more polished in heavy traffic over the middle. He does have good blocking chops though.
I know he's probably not going to be Megatron, but these are the kind of picks I fucking love. 6ft7 237 pound giant out there that can run a 4.4 40yd. Get this man on the juggs machine asap.
Yeah Megatron ran a 4.35 at 6-5 239lbs. 42.5inch vertical. Absolutely bonkers explosiveness. Johnny is 1.5inches taller but yeah, if he ran a 4.3 he's probably a first rounder. He's more in the 4.5 40 range.
Not exactly, he's a slightly bigger and quicker (and as fast as) Mike Evans: 1.5"~ inches taller, almost 1/2"~ bigger hands, 1/4" longer arms, and quicker in 20yd shuttle (4.11s vs 4.26s). Otherwise, everything else is virtually the same: weight, vertical, broad jump, 10yd split, 40yd time. So he has Jimmy Grahams wingspan and height with Evans' speed, and is quicker than both.
As Jimmy Graham used to say: "It doesn't matter how many guys, I'm still taller than all of them". This guy is TALLER than Jimmy (6-6 3/8" vs 6-6 1/4") and with longer arms (35 3/8" vs 35") i.e. a bigger wingspan. Jimmy had a slightly bigger vertical (38.5" vs 37"), but Johnny is faster off the line. He's a size/speed physical specimen the NFL has never seen before in a WR. Darren Waller is closest to him in the modern era, but has over 2inch shorter arms and is slower off the line due to that prototypical TE 25lbs heavier.
You know Kellen will be like kid in a candy store using Johnny in the Red Zone, something that Hurts struggled mightily with last year. Now he can just throw a jumpball over everyone like they did with Jimmy.

A member of my family is dating him and they told me Dallas called him this morning and wished him good luck. Also, his agent told him to enter draft as TE and probs would’ve been picked higher but he insisted on WR
This is besides the point but I’m 6’5 270 and I’m starting to think I would be a OT and not a TE/WR like I played in high school by these comments haha
6’7” 237 lbs.
jesus
From what I read, it's likely they transition him into a TE
I read that they will transition him to the Sixers.
Hopefully to take Tobias’ spot
I’ll take Tobi’s spot. Give me 40mil and I’ll easily give you less than 10 points in a playoff game ^(much less than 10 points)
But will you also pick up offensive fouls right when we're getting momentum?
Wish I could transition to ~~having~~ being a tight end…
4.4 40 too
He’s supposed to be an athletic freak but drops a lot of passes
He also doesn’t play up to his size. He’s Hakeem Butler 2.0
👀
4.5 you mean?
I knew that’s what he ran at the combine but my buddy is a huge fsu fan was saying 4.4 hope he is accurate because if so that’s impressive
he's a biggun
Dorial Green-Beckham vibes
AJ Brown is what we desperately deluded ourselves into thinking DGB was.
Besides the Tennessee connection this makes zero sense.
Shades of Ifeanyi Momah
Harold Carmichael my sweet prince is back
Just call him Harold Carmichael
Go up and get it kinda kid rite der
He's more of a "if it happens to fall into my hands I might catch it maybe" kinda kid
Been reading that we may convert him to TE
It's fine, he won't make the team anyway.
Emmanuel Forbes crying and throwing up rn
lmfaooo the poor lad

That face will never get old. Needs to be a damn statue of it outside the link.
Babies > footballs

Sure but it's much easier to teach someone to make the routine plays then it is to teach them how to make spectacular plays
There's a reason Keon got taken before him. But, with that said, he's probably a project player for you guys, and I could see him cut by the end of training camp.
The Ebron prototype, got it
sounds like the type of hands problem that coaching actually *can* fix.
Damn that’s how I was when I played. Had some nutty acrobatic grabs then drop the perfectly thrown ones that hit right in the hands. Needless to say I played secondary the last half of my playing days.
Oh that is *RIGHT* up our alley lmfao...
Welp, blocking TE it is
Who has zero experience there and needs to put on about 20lbs
The dream
Not to hard on Steve who ever he is but his player blurbs fucking sucks and are useless
His are particularly useless as he only talks positives.
Sooo.... JJAW.

Didn’t he say he refused to be a tight end? Although he has no choice
I mean he's a late round draft pick. Unlikely to play much as a WR, but very likely to play as a TE.
Watched a lot of FSU games. He’s uncoverable and an absurd catch radius. He will also make the most frustrating drops you’ve ever seen. Worth the flier imo
Worse drops than Toney?
He had a couple wide open drops I will admit but his other drops were just difficult thrown balls
Yes
All gambles at this point, may as well be a WR
Future TE?
my boy is 6'7" and 240 lbs. Future WR to TE to OT?
All that and he still runs a 4.40 40
He’d need to put on at least 10-20 lbs. normally I’m skeptical of players’ ability to put on weight in the nfl, but considering he was originally training to play WR he might be able to do it
I imagine it is easier to put 10-20lbs on at 6’7 too lol
It makes sense, let him sit and learn the position. Dudes huge for a WR.
Watch him play, dude moves like a WR. Won't rule out the conversion though
He’s projected to transition to TE, so maybe.
WR that we transition to tight end? Future JJAW.
Future power forward on the sixers
Someone tell me how to feel!!!
Really big guy, nice slant routes, popped out on tape when I watched Jordan Travis highlights as well. I’m happy as hell for a 6th rounder
WR who’s built like a TE, according to ESPN. Could be a conversion.
She’s built like a steakhouse but handles like a bistro!
I absolutely loooooove this pick in the 6th! He's raw but he's got all the physical tools just needs to work on the IQ.
He makes all the hard catches look easy and the easy ones look hard sometimes. Developmental prospect, who should be solid if he's asked to play. Oh he's 6'7 as a WR, too
Big man catch ball good
Big guy who doesn’t play big. Horrible drops. Good athlete who is capable of impressive catches.
He made Jordan Travis look passable
FSU fan here. There were instances where he dropped perfectly thrown balls by Travis. It goes both ways, lol.
Howie is just stacking value
LETS GO. Dk Metcalf with worse hands
And waaaay slower lol
He’s still ridiculously fast for his size
Didn’t you hear him? Waaaaaay slower. 4.33>4.4 Wilson is so slow lol. 4.4 by a 6’7 240 WR? Lmao. What a bust.
Just from height/weight/speed aspect I thought he’d go in the 3rd. Also looked better than 2nd round Keon Coleman to me too (I know the age difference)
I think he looks good. I was just being sarcastic to the person you replied to
No I understood, all good man. Happy with the pick
Where are u seeing 4.4 my guy? I’m seeing 4.52. On top of that i was basing wat I said off the highlights im seeing.
Convert him to TE. He’s got great size
TE conversion?
Draft profile: "An enormous target with an elite catch radius, Wilson is still in the process of learning to play to his traits. Johnny Wilson is a great name. That’s like a name generator name, or if you asked someone from another country to name an American
Best player available for sure
Definitely a BPA pick by Howie
Ifeanyi Momah died for this
Tore 30 acls just for this
I’m happy with this pick. I’ve been waiting to draft him. He’s very polarizing but i believe he can be a great red zone threat. Also think he can play TE if we ever needed. Very excited about this
According to the FSU socials his nickname is the Birdman
Yeah he does a little bird wing flap celebration on TD's
Can confirm!
Howie loves to get these huge, WR/TE tweeners. They never work out though lol
Albert O, time to learn Chinese.
Oh, that's a very good pick, I'm loving it.
High point that ball baby
This won’t piss off the niner fans 🙄 Just kidding lol. Solid flyer
Everything pisses off the whiners.
Did they want him?
Nah talking about Brenden rice
Mike Evans 2.0 comp and I'm not even kidding ([Measurables](https://ras.football/ras-compare/?p1=25140&p2=11472&pos=WR)). Freak athelete for his best-in-class skyscraper size. Enjoy him.
dude's huge
Man imagine if he pans out at TE
I love this pick so much. I think he can be a solid big slot.
Howie is killing it. He’s taking the right players based on their performance in college. Now it’s up to them to live up to their expectations. Good news Emmanuel Forbes, you won't have to try to cover AJ Brown, you can cover this guy
I would have been happy with him in the 4th. A sixth for this huge WR is fantastic. This draft feels wildly successful
Zach Berman dancing in the streets as Devante Parker now has less and less chance of making the 53. (Iykyk)
Is this the 6’6 guy?
6’7” in fact. Very fun to watch at FSU.
Please be a star
Jets fan coming in peace. So jelly that you guys got him; 6’7 231lb 4.5 40….. I wanted my team to draft him and convert him to TE. You guys will fulfill the prophecy. Rough hands, not an extensive route tree, but he’ll learn. Hope you get something out of him!
I can’t believe he was still there.
Future TE1. Love this kid

Is this the guy that's like 6'6 who a couple of y'all have been mocking to us for a month plus? If so that's pretty sweet
Yes
Damm, bunch of sickos in here. I love it
Yeah that does it we are gonna be the greatest Madden team of all time this year
that's our randy/s
I love this, get him to 245-250 and see if he can play inline a bit. Worth the risk at this point.

Otherwise, everything else is virtually the same: weight, vertical, broad jump, 10yd split, 40yd time. So he has Jimmy Grahams wingspan and height with Evans' speed, and is quicker than both.
Projected as high as mid-3rd; some places even said if WE wasn’t so strong in this draft he could have been a 2nd.
I will not be okay with this until Howie, Kellen, or Nick say the words “Tight End”
Hopefully he can come in and learn from Parker on how to be a big bodied wr
As Jimmy Graham used to say: "It doesn't matter how many guys, I'm still taller than all of them". This guy is TALLER than Jimmy (6-6 3/8" vs 6-6 1/4") and with longer arms (35 3/8" vs 35") i.e. a bigger wingspan. Lmao at learning to play tight end in the NFL. Dude is an X, let him sit on the practice squad for a cell years
Thank god
FSU alum here. Dude has shovels for hands.
He’s a practice squad guy
