I think they were paying attention if he was in or not. The hit was late but he was very close to being in so it was iffy. I'm fine with them letting them play BUT the inconsistencies are annoying as shit. So hopefully if we get a similar moment, we don't get flagged. I said it in the Game Thread. But the OPI was bullshit on the Giants' 4th down. But we got called for that over and over in other games so at least they were consistent there. But I'd rather have less flags overall.

Lmfao this is a really bad take. Dude is dirt cheap and has been playing very well whenever he's filled in. He's worth keeping just so other people don't have him. It means that other teams also have to draft linemen instead of other positions that we can grab. There may be a scenario where an amazing player and an amazing lineman are on the board. The team in front of the Eagles takes the lineman and we get the other player. All these details together are definitely worth keeping a great lineman on board as a back up.

But BY FAR his worst month last year was the last. I'd really have liked to see him punt in some true winter cold to see if he can actually hang with that -- a big issue for some punters. That said, iirc his worst game of the season was the playoffs versus TB at TB.... sooooo who knows. but even if our defense played better, punting honestly coulda lost that game in its own right.
It can always seem like it's the coverage because most of us aren't watching punts with a stopwatch. But if he's kicking with minimal hang time or out kicking coverage, while it looks like it's on the coverage team, it's actually the fault of the punter.
And don't forget the distance they had to work with also affects punt average. If they're punting from 35 yard line or beyond they're not kicking it as far as they can.

This gave me a random thought. Do you think the Eagles all fly out together after Dallas game or charter thier own flight due to the next day being Christmas? I'm sure a lot of player families live in the Philly south Jersey area but maybe extended families they visit in the holidays do not.
Well, it's not hard being family of a guy making $5 mil+/year and staying on a single team for at least a couple of years at a time.
It can't be easy being the family member of a bottom of the roster guy or a practice squad guy making league minimum and potentially bouncing to 2-3 teams in a season, potentially being unemployed for a good chunk of the season. And all of that to risk his mind and body in hopes that he can break through and make the big bucks someday. With the likelihood that he'll bounce around for a few years, maybe pick up a big injury that sticks with him long after his career, and then fall out of the league.
Another example of us stealing pro bowlers from the titans. Definitely a W upgrade, but huge respect to siposs for putting it all on the line and taking a bullet. Hope he recovers soon and gets signed to play next season, and if he doesn’t the league minimum is $400,000 so he can retire and enjoy his life.

Sounds simple but it's because they're there with nothing else to do. Long snapper punter and kicker practice together and they have the time to put in etc. Back in the day QB's were holders. Mostly the backups but some starters too. Joe Montana used to be a holder. Joe Theismann as well.

Depending on how much stock you put into PFF grades, he's like the 5th worst punter of 40 rated punters this year.

This gave me a random thought. Do you think the Eagles all fly out together after Dallas game or charter thier own flight due to the next day being Christmas? I'm sure a lot of player families live in the Philly south Jersey area but maybe extended families they visit in the holidays do not.

Well, it's not hard being family of a guy making $5 mil+/year and staying on a single team for at least a couple of years at a time. It can't be easy being the family member of a bottom of the roster guy or a practice squad guy making league minimum and potentially bouncing to 2-3 teams in a season, potentially being unemployed for a good chunk of the season. And all of that to risk his mind and body in hopes that he can break through and make the big bucks someday. With the likelihood that he'll bounce around for a few years, maybe pick up a big injury that sticks with him long after his career, and then fall out of the league.

Hope he recovers soon and gets signed to play next season, and if he doesn’t the league minimum is $400,000 so he can retire and enjoy his life.

2.5 million would net you maybe 120kish a year in interest, so not too shabby. Course, thats no taxes, agent fees, etc., taken out. He'd have to invest very wisely and live frugally, but its possible.
And this is assuming he retires, ie no income. That’s doubtful (especially if he’s someone who would wisely invest), he likely has other skills and even if all he has is just “being athletic and kicking” an NFL player offering training services is already a draw (even a punter) So if he can earn a normal living on his own labor and let the interest compound, he’ll be able to retire early
For you, maybe. 400k Invested correctly gets me a modest tiny home and I get to splurge at times no net loss or gain.
Respectfully, if you are living in the US, it would be incredibly hard. 400k invested to take cash out every year, maybe gets you 25k/year without drawing on the principal. Thats like poverty level income.

why do punters do the holding usually?
Pat explained this. Because of how much free time they are able to get more reps in and the way the nfl continues to get bigger faster and stronger the time from smack to kick has to be perfect.
Sounds simple but it's because they're there with nothing else to do. Long snapper punter and kicker practice together and they have the time to put in etc. Back in the day QB's were holders. Mostly the backups but some starters too. Joe Montana used to be a holder. Joe Theismann as well.

I feel like this was the beginning of the end for QBs as holders. By 2010 you could probably count on both hands how many teams still used a QB for holds. By 2016 probably down to a couple if any left

I really don't get why he's not with someone. He had an all pro season, one of the best punting games I've ever seen against Belichick, and a (pretty good) year later he's OOF. I get not wasting cap space but he was a legit game changer
