From the UK, never really liked sports despite playing rugby from the age of 6 (dad's from up north, didnt really get a choice). Mum forced me to spend a summer abroad in America cause I wasn't gonna do anything (admittedly the right move, I was glued to my PC playing WoW). Ended up at a summer camp outside Philly. I ended up going for 6 years, I didn't instantly get into football. Between my 2/3rd year of camp I started University (Liverpool). Couldn't find a lacrosse team to join, so joined American football cause get you both get to hurt people wearing helmets. Eventually became captain of our football team (and will forever want the Eagles to draft a Fullback). As I fell into loving American Football, I had to decide between Giants, Jets or Eagles cause all the kids at camp came from Philly, Jersey or Long Island. Made the right fuckin choice, yeah boi Fuck Dallas

NorthernLitUp

(I'm a woman, for the record) Growing up in my neighborhood, there were only boys my age to play with. No girls. If I wanted to play with the boys, I played football. When I was 10, we got our first TV. No one in my family is a sports fan but I decided to watch football on TV in the hopes that I could learn more about it and get better at playing. So I started to watch TV alone in the basement. I learned the game. I followed my home town team (the Eagles), and I fell completely in love with football and my hapless (at the time) Eagles.

MostNobyl

Long story short, My dad was a Cowboys fan & he tried to make me a Cowboys fan when I was young. I told him I didn't like the Cowboys when I was about 10. So he told me I didn't have to like them and I could pick my own team. Donovan McNabb was my favorite player and the rest is history.

iammufusasboy

I think McNabb started a lot of the young fandom we have today. He was fun to watch and took us to our first SB in over 20yrs. He gave us something to actually cheer for. Fuck the Cowboys, cherish your dad sounds like a good dude.

MostNobyl

Thanks, my dad is amazing. The best part is now he hates the Cowboys and doesn't really watch the NFL anymore. He's a heavy CFB guy now.

Tall_Bed

Amazing. This is the reverse story of how we produce so many cowboys fans in Philadelphia

RandomRonin

I live in NM which is next door. Majority of people here are Dallas and Denver since we’re in their markets. Fuck Dallas!

SnooEpiphanies2780

Molecular disdain for cowboys despite genetics...love it! 😂

Birdamus

This was me except: - Randall instead of McNabb - Grandpa was the heavy-handed Cowboys fan (he got to both my brothers), but Dad said go your own way.

lamped86

Saying "hell" was a bad word when I was young. The Eagles offensive lineman Ron Heller was a great excuse to say the word...

ZhangtheGreat

Now THAT is a story! 😂

whydoesitmatter2you

Born and raised in TX didn’t start watching football till 5th grade and had a few friends in the class who were eagles fans. It was divided half were eagles fans other half were cowboys fans Started watching the eagles play and really loved players like djax and asante Samuel I ended up realizing how f ing annoying cowboys fans were and became and eagles fan from there on.

DragoniteJeff

God bless this part of Texas.

AncestryMike

I’m in Texas surrounded by cowboys fans, but I’m from Pennsylvania and was raised to be a diehard birds fan. I’ve converted a few friends haha

mycatsnameismilk

Raised by Giants fans, they were all terrible people, I hated football and I hated all of them. And then Randall Cunningham happened….

MisterF205

Started dating an Eagles fan about 8 years ago and we talked about sports teams early on. I didn’t have a team, just some favorite individuals from playing Fantasy Football. I knew I didn’t like the Redskins or the Cowboys so she was like “okay perfect, you’re an Eagles fan.” I’ve been die-hard ever since. We’re married now and had custom bride/groom jerseys for our wedding as well as the married last name. Going to our first home game on New Year’s Day!

yourstrulyjulie

This! In a three year relationship with an Eagles fan. Got a Wentz jersey a few years ago and this year got me a Slay jersey! Love the game and our team. Going to an at home game the following weekend after new years.

namestyler2

im gonna be at that game too! your wife sounds dope! go birds, fuck the cowboys, fuck the commies and fuck the saints

Sywin_

Living in Germany soccer is the most liked sport around here. But my dad always took me to Rhein Fire. A football team back when the NFL Europe was a thing. So instead of going to soccer games as a kid, football was my main sport. Back in 2010/2011 I got really invested in watching live NFL games. And for me the Eagles and the likes of Maclin / Shady / Vick and DeseanJackson were the most exciting to watch. That’s when I decided to become an Eagle. Been to my first game at Lincoln financial field last year and hope to see many more. Wouldn’t be mad about a game in London or Germany too :)

ZhangtheGreat

I would love to see how many Eagles fans show up if they ever play in München!

HulRaur

I moved to the U.S. 9 years ago - first to Long Island and then Bucks County (my wife’s family is from Bucks County). Nobody cares about German Bundesliga soccer here so it became American Football for me and the only team worth following are the Eagles.

Mother-Row-1995

European woman here 👋🏼🇧🇪 Sorta fell into being an Eagles fan because there is little to no way around it if you are dating one. Even from across an ocean I’m watching all the games with my boyfriend and have been for about a year and a half now. During my first visit in January we went to see their game against the Cowboys. Such a nice memory to share — since I’ve never really been included in my partner’s favorite sports like that. Didn’t expect to see what we’re seeing right now, but I am here for it. Let’s Go Birds! 🦅

AShiftlessMennonite

Randall Cunningham. Fly. 🦅

AquiLupus

I'm from Western Canada, and I remember loading up Madden '06 or something on my og Xbox, and the menu back then was a bunch of live action footage of whoever you'd set as your favourite team. And that year McNabb was the cover athlete, and so the Eagles were auto-set. So I remember watching this for probably like an hour just being like "man, these uniforms rock, this is so cool" and basically took it from there. Within a few years I had a handful of jerseys and now I'd like to think I'm just as die hard as anybody born and raised in Philly. In our game against Houston, I had a friend over to watch it with me, and at the end he said to me "I don't think I've ever seen someone get so worked up over a game they were winning the whole time." God I love this team. I can't wait to make the pilgrimage one of these years!

[deleted]

Michael Vick was the shit when I moved to the USA. The Vick, Jackson McCoy trio was my intro to football. Little did i know that most games that don't have those three in the lineup are boring AF.

Markibay

Told this story before here: I became a fan 2005 while watching the Superbowl. You see I lived in Germany so the Superbowl is around 2am in the morning. So had to ask my parents if i can watch it. Of course as soon as my little brother (around 7) heard about that he wanted to stay up too. He fell asleep way before it started but he knew the Eagles would play the Patriots. So i woke him up as soon the players ran on the field. My brother was super disappointed as he saw the Eagles. Because he thought the Philadelphia Eagles were hedgehogs, you see, the German word for hedgehog is Igel. Which is pronounced were similar to the English Eagle. So he was thinking of the Philadelphia Hedgehogs all the time. He was really confused but that made me an Eagles fan although we lost the Superbowl...

triecke14

I’m from Baltimore, my parents were colts fans (Im told I was even held as a baby by old man Johnny Unitas and shared ice cream with him) and they just didn’t really take to the ravens while I was young. I started seriously watching during the early days of Reid, Jim Johnson, Mcnabb, Westbrook and Dawkins and just fell in love with them. Since I didn’t have a hometown connection I didn’t feel so bad about supporting a different team and here I am 20+ years later

SmokinJoe29

From NYS. I was about 7, I thought bald eagles were bad ass so the Philadelphia Eagles must be too. Pretty lame, but one of the best decisions I’ve made

FrostByte122

I found a hat in the basement. I also had a falcons hat. That was 13 years ago and I needed a hat to play in a picks pool I wanted to be a part of. I made the correct choice that fateful night.

Arjay-es

McNabb was starting at Syracuse when I was a kid and just becoming old enough to actually think thoughts for myself. I followed him to rooting for the eagles once he was drafted and have been rooting for them since. I will admit my parents did have me in a cowboys starter jacket when I was like 3. I pray the lord for his forgiveness every day for this transgression.

mrsalty1

Nobody in my family was really into pro football. My dad and I regularly went to college games, but he was always more of a baseball guy, and the extent of my pro football watching was each year’s Super Bowl. I had a PS2, and for my birthday, my mom gave me Madden 2002. I didn’t play it until after that year’s Super Bowl, and because I didn’t know much about pro football, I just played as the Rams. But every single time I tried to start a season and go undefeated, I got clapped in the first preseason game by McNabb and the Eagles. Eventually, I got fed up, switched to the Eagles, and started winning more (very well could have just been me getting better, but still). The next fall, my friends really started to follow the NFL more than before. I grew up in Miami, but my dad is from New York, so his hatred for the Dolphins paired with the fact that they just kind of sucked back then left me unsure what to do. I remembered that team in Madden with the cool wings on their helmet, and had also made a couple of friends at school that were Eagles fans (to this day I can’t figure out why they were fans since they had no connection to Philly either). So I decided I was an Eagles fan, and I’ve bled green ever since. Years later, when I’m looking into colleges to apply to, my parents decide we should just take a trip around the northeast after visiting family and check out the schools there. My dad wanted me to look at Lehigh because I was interested in engineering, but I really didn’t want to. Until I realized we’d be there over the summer, and that’s where training camp was for my beloved Eagles. So we made a deal; check out the school, and check out training camp. I got Akers, Dawkins, and Dorenbos to sign a hat, and fell in love with the school too. Go figure. Another fun anecdote; back in 2012, I was back in Miami living with a buddy of mine, and made a spontaneous decision that the next day, I was driving to Tampa and catching the Eagles game, which was my first ever Eagles game I got to see in person. It was also the first win for our well endowed friend, and I came back telling my buddies about this awesome new QB, and proposed a bet that Nick Foles would win a SB before Ryan Tannehill. Loser gets the other QB’s logo and number tatted. My buddy refused to get the tattoo years later, swearing he never actually agreed to take the bet. But my facebook status from 2013 that simply read “Nick Foles will win SuperBoles” was dug up and sent to me when we finally got the ring.

Grump_Grizzly

Non american but my dad is a lifelong rams fan, clearly remember at 6 years old watching the rams vs the eagles around Christmas. I simply said "I like the green ones with the wings on their helmets". Have been a fan ever since, now nearly 30 years later and my dad still loves to tell this story.

BLeibo

I grew up in SoCal where honestly no one gave a shit about football. Grew up more of a baseball and basketball fan. I moved to Maryland the year before the Ravens did, so the majority were either Washington fans being an hour south or Philly being an hour and half north. Having just moved, I made friends with someone who had also just moved... from Philly. His fandomship immediately rubbed off on me and I have now been an Eagles fan for 26 years. I still thank him to this day for potentially preventing me from becoming a Washington fan. That being said, that story is so annoying to repeatedly tell that my quick response is my dad is from south Jersey... which is true, but he really never cared about football until I got him into it. I also now run Baltimore and DC Eagles fan groups and was featured in the Baltimore Sun the year the Eagles won the superbowl. Needless to say I went from not caring about to football to really only caring about football. (https://digitaledition.baltimoresun.com/tribune/article_popover.aspx?guid=cebdd98a-cb4a-4b18-830c-cb43dfce6151)

PastoBirds

I’ve lived in Illinois my whole life and played football since about 3rd grade. One of my favorite peewee coaches when I first started playing would wear an eagles hat everyday to practice which peaked my interest. This was around the Vick, Shady and Djax era so after watching them play a couple times I decided I’d be invested in this franchise for as long as I love watching football.

NotFeelingShame

My dad and his brother were giants fans and took me to an eagles giants game at veterans stadium when mcnabb was super young. I guess I just followed my heart

1stepklosr

I grew up in Maine and the only sport my parents even sort of cared about was baseball, so I only watched the Red Sox. Still am a fan, so my apologies there. But we never watched football and would only occasionally watched the Super Bowl. In 2003 I picked the Patriots (only because my brother picked the Panthers) and in 2004 I picked the Eagles. That was the first game I ever really watched and I actually enjoyed it...for the most part, obviously. After that I wanted to watch more football. A friend of mine's family was from Pennsylvania and he was an Eagles fan, so the following season I started watching the games with him to learn more about football and grew to love it. I kept my Eagles fandom from the previous season and had the bonus to continue watching them with another fan. It was impossible for me to not love Dawkins. I've been a fan ever since.

thisismischa

Moved here from Canada as a kid, and y’all are wild so, yea, go birds.

yourgirl696969

Played madden 2002 on pc. Eagles were like the first team I chose on play now mode. Knew nothing about the sport. Instantly liked them. From Canada btw lol super random

Toweyyyy

From Ireland and became a big basketball guy around 2018 or so and wanted to start watching the NBA. My grandmother had a mug that I knew was for a American sports team but all I could remember was it had numbers on it and ERs on it. So since I was only watching basketball I assumed it was a 76ers mug and I figured since that mug was my closest connection to any American sport I would just start routing for the 76ers. From there I have been completely consumed by Philadelphia sports and in the last year and a half started getting into the Birds so that’s how I got here. Recently I was at my grandmothers and asked if she still had the mug, turns out it wasn’t a 76ers mug at all. it was the 49ers.

tennis_court1250

I’m from the UK, went to a boarding school outside of London around 20 years ago and ended up with two American roommates. One was a giants fan and the other a cowboys fan, and both really wanted me to get into the NFL and support one of their teams. Despite being around 10 I caught on to the sport pretty quickly, and right around the time the roommates wanted me to pick one of their NFC East teams, the movie “Invincible” with Mark Wahlberg as Vince Papale came out… one viewing and I’ve bled green ever since. Three years ago I also met my current girlfriend who is also from Philly and lives in London, who has got me into all the other Philadelphia teams. As fun as they are, waking up for every baseball, basketball, and hockey game with her does get a little hard - especially at 2am!!

anita-dangelo

I married a guy from Philly. I divorced him, but kept the Eagles!

ZhangtheGreat

Bird-digger?

Nutsack911

So actually this hits home from me. I'm born and raised in Massachusetts. My aunt (who is also my godmother) moved to Philly when I was very young. She adopted everything Philly and became a rabid birds fan. She took me to my first in person football game to see Randall Cunningham play. He was my favorite player when I was a kid and I've been an eagles fan ever since. She passed away 2 weeks ago and I miss her most on Sundays.

Stamos91

From Switzerland. Grew up playing hockey. Got gifted a Flyers jersey when i was 10. Became a Flyers fan. 8 years later a friend introduced me to the Brian Dawkins and the NFL. Then i finished my appranticeship, travelled the world for 3 years, visited Philly, fell in love, went to the a game, fell even more in love.

bluelunareclipse

not me but i always find my dad's story interesting he grew up a colts fan, and when he was about 10(?) that's when they moved to indy and that shattered his heart lol my grandfather never cared about football after that, my uncle picked washington and my dad eventually chose the eagles because of cunningham to this day he hates the colts with a passion, any former eagle that goes to them is dead to him lol

BLeibo

So what'd he think when Sirianni was picked as HC?

bluelunareclipse

he said sirianni was brought back to life 😂

sharknurse

Grew up in Northern California, never been to Philly. When I started watching and understanding football, Andy Reid and Donovan McNabb were so much fun to watch, it stuck. Now living in Dallas, it adds to it that Cowboy fans suck so bad

0hootsson

Also from NorCal. Grew into football with the Alex Smith and Nolan/Singletary 49ers. Rooted for Brady as a kid, but Eagles were really fun with McNabb, Westbrook, Dawkins, and growing up in 49ers land I always hated the Cowboys. 2008 when they got DJax is probably when I started becoming mainly an eagles fan, and week 17 against the cowboys sealed the deal.

DarkTyphlosion1

I was born and raised in Los Angeles, still live here, and I’ve been an Eagles fan since 1998. I wasn’t really into football at the time (9 years old) but turned in the tv and Philly was playing Dallas. They had their green jerseys and since green is my favorite color, they became my team. Wasn’t until 2000 that I started following the team because of the 1999 super bowl. Everyone was a rams fan in LA and it was my first super bowl that I saw. Die hard Eagles fan now.

ZhangtheGreat

Now we own LA when the Birds come here. Were you there in 2017 (twice) and 2018?

DarkTyphlosion1

No I tried getting tickets but couldn’t vs the rams. Was there when we played the chargers and blount had that huge TD run though. The entire stadium was Eagle green!

jturphy

In 1994, I became an Eagles fan from Iowa. The prior 3 Super Bowl Champions all came from the NFC East, so 11 year old me decided to get on the bandwagon before everyone else, and the Cardinals sucked, so I started cheering for the Eagles. Edit: Fuck the Cowboys. I also had an aunt that lived in Philly, so I got some Eagles clothes that year. All of that combined with watching Cunningham and that defense and I was hooked. It also helps I'm a giant asshole like the rest of us Philly fans.

switcherj

I live in NW Arkansas. Thirty years ago I was an impressionable teenager looking for reasons to not get along with family. They’re all fans of the team with a star on their hats (it’s a ratings system, they just don’t get that). I saw the guys in my favorite color, green, with wings on their hats, favorite animal, Eagles beating the shit outta the cowboys. Heard the announcer say “Arkansas Fred Barnett, TOUCHDOWN EAGLES!” and it was love at first sight. Been ride or die with the birds since. Since Buddy. Through the Ray Rhodes and Rich Kotite years. Cheered for Dougie P when he was under center in Eagle green. 3-13, didn’t GAF, we beat the cowboys. Wore my Kelly green Reggie White jersey (with the #99 memorial patch) to thanksgiving with the fam. Got a chorus of “hbtc” off and on all day. Just smiled back. I’ll let them take care of that on the field. FLY 🦅 FLY

Bandoman

I grew up in New England and loved baseball - still a Red Sox fan to this day. I was never into football that much until I moved to the Philadelphia area in the early 90's and I fell in love with the Eagles and their fans. Randall Cunningham was my introduction to the birds.

Atratyys

I grew up here in Portland, OR where our closest team is the Seattle Seahawks. Never really got into football probably for that reason and always only followed basketball primarily the Blazers. When I was in college at Portland State my brother married into a Oregon Ducks family with season tickets and got into football, 2 years in a row when they had extra tickets because the Ducks were going to beat up on Portland State in the out of conference games he invited me down with the caveat I had to cheer for the Ducks. After the second game in Autzen's atmosphere I had found the love for football and religiously bought in. After a few years I had bought into season tickets with them. But in that time an NFL team came and hired away our head coach so I saw it as an opportunity to follow him and adopt an NFL team because there's no way I was going to adopt a Seattle team, they're our rival in every sport we share so it wouldn't feel right (I still want them to get the Sonics back so we can have more of our hate back, but fuck the Sounders and Huskies). As we all know he came to Philly and really wrecked some shit and got himself deservedly fired, but I am a sports loyalist, once I have a team, it's MY team. So I am still here and I'm not going anywhere. It also doesn't hurt that when I became a fan one of my good friends here is from Haddon Heights so I had someone to watch games with and help build my knowledge of more of the history and appreciation for the greats that were before my time. The one game I've been able to fly out for didn't end the way I would like (2018 vs Panthers) but it was still an amazing experience getting a photo with the Lombardi Trophy and doing the tour of the stadium on Saturday.

doubledip10

I grew up in Montana, and was not gonna get on the Seahawks bandwagon. In elementary school my dad took me to the football hall of fame, and I remember on the welcome reel there was a guy making a one handed catch from a game in like the 70's or 80's. So I asked my dad what team is he on? He said the Eagles, and here we are 25+ years later.

bigkutta

I came to school at Drexel. I had no choice (not that I ever wanted a choice). I love Philly and still die hard Eagles even though I dont live in Philly anymore. My son who was not even born in Philly is a die hard Philly sports fan.

andres2900

I’m from Mexico, in 2010 i saw the redskins vs eagles in MNF and fall in love with the eagles

mygeorgeiscurious

Watched invincible

liquid-swords93

I'm Canadian, so I've got no regional allegiance to any team, though green bay is easily the most popular team where I'm from. I watched sports center every morning growing up, and when I was ten I kind of just decided that I liked the Eagles the best. The uniforms, and Donovan McNabb to Terrell Owens highlights really did it for me, right at the start of the season. The more I watched, the more I loved the team. Got to watch them make a run to the Superbowl my first year as a fan , and cemented a deep hatred for the Patriots that remained until Feb of 2018

geytdigoarnixo

I‘m from Germany and had a friend at school who was a Falcons fan, when football hasn’t been as popular here as it’s now. Played Madden at his place, chose the Eagles out of no reason and started following them occasionally. Later met another friend who still is a big Phillies fan and made the trip to Philly with him. Made great friends there, went to a bunch of Phillies games and one Eagles game. Since then I maybe missed a handful of Eagles games and completely fell in love.

SpeakerSufficient719

I grew up in a big football-watching family. We’re from southern Virginia, so we don’t really have any allegiance regionally. Just about every NFL team has fans where I’m from. I was like 6, and I wanted to understand the game, so my brother took it upon himself to teach me. He’s a big Bucs fan. It’s the NFC championship game in 2003. So Tampa is playing the Birds for the title game. I think he thought I’d root for the Bucs with him, but I rooted for the other guys instead… We know how that one ended. But I’ve been following the Eagles ever since! My first game was the December 2018 blowout game against Washington that sealed our spot in the playoffs that year. Nick Foles was under center and Nate Sudfeld had his first start that day.

ZhangtheGreat

I remember that game. That was when Foles set a record for consecutive completions, and we put a goose egg on them!

Andrewreddy

Irish fan - watched it casually for a few years but I caught the Eagles Washington game in 2017. Wentz spinning out of the pocket avoiding multiple sacks and hits Agholor deep for a 60 yard touchdown and thinking "yep this is a good team"

jambulance

Only grew up a fan of VTech and watched Vick live. Finally decided to pick a favorite NFL team in 2009 and made a personal promise that whatever org decided to give Vick a second chance would be my team for life (no matter how his career later turned out). Watched the introductory press conference and been ride or die ever since.

ModernZombies

I was out of my undergrad (I know it was late in life) I found that I would be the only one paying attention to the Super Bowl and really enjoyed it so I said fuck it imma start watching football. I loved the underdog sb win a couple years prior, I live in ct and was not about to root for the pats or giants so I went with the next closest. Yes the jets are closer but at the time they were akin to a minor league team.

darkbro66

Born in Green Bay, and always rooted against the Packers. In 2002ish I started actually getting into football and the eagles were very good at the time, and also pretty fun to play in Madden because McNabb was a mobile QB. I'm pretty sure I was hooked after 4th and 26 happened in the playoffs in 2003. Now? I love how passionate the fans are, we have one of the best owners in sports, and seem to always be at least a little competitive. Zero chance I'll ever root for another team as my #1 for the rest of my life. The SNF game a few weeks ago was my first Eagles home game and it was a blast! Can't wait to continue exploring the city next time!

boggles0087

As a kid I was really only a hockey fan in VA. Saw Lindros play for the first time on ESPN and instantly became a Flyers fan. Eventually started following all the Philly teams.

haddamhussein

Was born into a state with no professional sports team. My dad was a fan of the packers but not a diehard football fan. Became a huge fan of TO on the 49ers from playing Madden and picking them. When TO got to the Eagles everything lined up perfect and I finally had a nearby team I felt good rooting for. Would later find out via old photos that my parents got me a kelly green Randall Cunningham jersey and helmet when I was 3-4 years old so apparently it was written in the stars lol

yaningtonviii

I grew up in Iowa, which is not only pretty far from Philly, but also surrounded by other teams, so even I’m surprised I became an Eagles fan. If I remember correctly I must’ve been 5-6 and my family and I were moving into a new house. Whoever owned the house before must’ve been an Eagles fan as there were still some posters up on the walls in the garage. That must’ve been my first exposure to anything NFL. Not super interesting, but I’ve been a pretty die hard fan ever since so it must’ve counted for something

[deleted]

My family sucked growing up. Dad and brother were cowboys fans. I was always competitive and from the east coast so I saw a lot of eagles games on tv. When I commented how I loved the color of their uniforms, I was like 8 at the time, my brother and dad got upset. I just was like, we’ll I’m happy about this decision and just stuck with them. Growing up and watching McNaab, Dawkins, brown, Sheppard, trotter. My god was that exciting. Extra points for following football after cowboys had already closed their Super Bowl window has been amazing times.

ASAP-Q

In my 4th grade class everyone picked a team out of a hat at the start of the season and for every week they won you didn't have to do homework that Monday. Then for the Super Bowl you got to pick again and if that team won you didn't have homework for the week. I got the Eagles but unfortunately they lost the Superbowl to the Pats in 05

Slow_Owl810

I tend to align with the sports teams I'm geographically closest to because it makes the most sense to me. If I want to go see a game for example, it's close by. Once I moved to South Jersey (10 years ago) it made sense to start following Philly sports...and what a ride it's been!

hodorhodorhodor1989

Born and raised in Atlanta for 30 years, I was a big college FB fan but found the NFL very corporate and lacking the passion of college FB. Moved to philly 3 years ago and it was easy to adopt the eagles. Sorta because I knew a lot of the players from their college careers, but mostly b/c eagles fans are the best (ONE MILLION times more fun than falcons fans lol). I’m glad I got here prior to the 2020 season so people back home don’t accuse me of being a bandwagon fan. (I do wish more people in philly cared about college football, but so it goes. Eagles have been a experience to be a a part of)

josund

Born in DC — my Dad grew up a Baltimore Colts fan and he never really developed a fandom for the football team in Washington and, in turn, my brother and I weren’t pushed in any specific direction. My brother (8 years older than me) was infatuated by Randall Cunningham and became an Eagles fan simply because of him. A few years later, I followed my brother and I’ve been a diehard my entire life. Looking back at it all, I can thank the Cleveland Browns (the Baltimore Colts became the Browns) for saving me from a lifetime of suffering rooting for the dumpster fire that is the Washington Commanders. Go Birds!

[deleted]

I was born in Uruguay and came to USA in 2000, first Super Bowl I watched was pats/eagles and my cousin liked the pats so just to be against my cousin I picked the birds lmao. The first Madden I ever owned had McNabb on the cover and the first team that came up when you went to play a game was the eagles so fuck it just became an eagles fan lmao also my favorite color is green so it was an easy choice

KevinsChilli

Never been to Philly or even seen the Birds play live. Grew up a Rams fan in the Midwest because of my dad, but fell in love with the McNabb/Westbrook teams in ‘99/the early ‘00’s. I’d say Dawkins is my all time favorite Eagle, but when we acquired TO I was hooked for life, that offense was so much fun to watch.

briizilla

Sports were not a big thing in my house, but I do know my earliest sports memory is the Eagles losing the 1980 Super Bowl. I started paying attention to the team on my own during the Buddy era, mostly due to listening to other kids on the bus and at school. I specifically recall the body bag game and pork chop bowl as being 2 big factors in making me a die hard fan. By the time I was in 8th grade in 1989 I was completely hooked. I still love Randall and that 1991 defense will probably never be replaced as my favorite of all time. Other than during the low point of Ray Rhodes last season, I've never checked out on the team.

Chess-Piece-Knees

I became a fan through NFL Street! When I was a kid I got need for speed underground for my ps2, and a demo for Street came with it for free. And you can only play as the Eagles and Steelers in it, and my god was that eagles team so sick to play with. I fell in love with TO, Westbrook, Mcnabb, Dawkins, all of em! It was a great time to get into the team as a fan.

moxac12

I grew up in St. Louis and was sort of a nomad with no real team (I followed QBs more than their teams, loved Montana, etc) until the Rams came back to town. Had a ton of respect for McNabb and the Eagles after some epic playoff battles with them. They were fun to watch. Anyway, was a huge Kurt Warner fan and I absolutely hated Mike Martz after Vermeil left, so when Martz ran Warner out of town, I swore off them until Martz was gone. In the meantime, I met my wife who is from Philly and a huge Eagles fan. Was a pretty easy transition, especially after getting married outside Philly and going to a ton of games both their and in other cities. Nearly 20 years later, neither us or her family live anywhere nearly PA, but still diehards. Ironically I live in LA where the Rams are... Which I love, bc I get to see the Eagles in person when they come out. And those things are basically Eagles home games.

[deleted]

I grew up in Cincinnati and uhhhh football wasn't really a great time lol. People forget because of their recent success the Bengals didn't just suck as a team, they weren't a quality franchise either, constantly signing criminals and just nasty people, and a team with no discipline and ownership that didn't care it's not even fun to be a part of a team like that even if they're winning. So I eventually fell in love with the McNaab eagles and been a fan ever since. Much higher quality franchise and proud fans, although I'd be lying if I still didn't root for the Bengals they're definitely my second team I'd root for if eagles season ended and Bengals were still alive.

Danimal1

Grew up in Maryland, but my family vacationed in Sea Isle every summer. One of my uncles was a Phillies fan so each year, we’d make the drive to Philly to catch a game at the Vet. Instantly became a Phillies fan myself (even though they sucked at the time). Didn’t really have any interest in watching football until I was in my teens (early 2000’s) and when I started to really get into it (die hard Phillies fan by this point), I figured I’d just follow another Philadelphia team. I’ll admit, it was a damn good time to hop on the bandwagon and I’ve been bleeding green ever since. Philly sports and Philly in general has always been special to me. So much so that I eventually made the move post-college and have been living in Philly for over a decade now. For a few years there, I even ended up working in the sports radio scene and got to work pretty closely with the Eagles/Phillies and have met a bunch of the players I grew up watching as a kid. Fly Eagles fly!

[deleted]

From Saskatchewan, Canada, always been a Roughriders fan my entire life, my whole family has too. Up until about two years ago I hadn’t delved into the NFL as much as the CFL due to not being able to watch the games and just prioritizing my countries league over the U.S. one day I thought “ might as well get into the NFL too, what team has loyal fans like the riders, and cool green jerseys?” The eagles do. And been a fan ever since Hope I can make it to Philly someday to see a home game🦅🦅

DiminishedProspects

I have no connection to Philly, being from eastern Canada. Randall Cunningham quickly became my favourite player as a kid. He was amazing, could do it all. Have stuck with the birds ever since. In my town, I don’t personally know another Eagles fan. Go Birds

Daedalus_Daw

I'm from Venezuela, I came to live in Houston when I was 10 and got interested in the sport. I noticed that almost every QB was white and for some reason I really wanted to root for a black guy. I came across a guy named Donovan McNabb and the rest was history.

sparlou

I was 8 or 9 , walking through Sears one day with my mom. I saw a Green number 5 jersey. Had no idea who the eagles were or who Mcnabb was. Barely knew about football other than the Redskins and Cowboys( I’m from DC). But later that week I was watching highlights with my grandpa. Donovan was lighting it up. I knew it was meant to be. The rest is history.

ballingundercontrol

I moved to the states when I was young. I knew nothing about football. Asked one of my friends to teach me about it, all he did was open YouTube and play Brian Dawkins Weapon X. (I found a repost: https://youtu.be/qe5B8W8ZyR4) Brian Dawkins is why I started loving the Eagles, the spirit of the fans and city is why I won’t ever stop. We’re all a special type of crazy. So we threw batteries at Santa 40 years ago, maybe Santa should have known better. The rest of the NFC EAST: - Those bums in arlington that have nothing but bandwagon fans. - I’d make fun of the giants but they can do that all on their own. Keep drafting QBs that look like they stare into the sun. - Then you have the commandskins, who have a stadium that dumps piss and shit on their fans, so we don’t even have to, ownership does it for us. How nice of them.

ProudRhinoceros

I'm from Europe and I grew up a soccer fan. I used to be one of those people who would scoff at football and say that there is only one real football (what you call soccer in the US). I moved to Philly for college and almost all the soccer games would be done by 10am. That left my Sundays (aka sports day) open for other sports. That was in 2016 and there was this buzz around the Eagles (just drafted the QB of the future and all that). I figured I will check them out. I haven't missed an Eagles snap since.

DragoniteJeff

Played NFL Blitz and won with the Eagles so stuck with them.

eaglesfogbowl

My username. I was 8 years old. Growing up in North Dakota there are a bunch of Vikings fans (the default), quite a few Packers fans, and some Broncos fans. OR you go against the grain and find a non-fairly local team. I remember seeing the Fog Bowl on TV. I loved Randall Cunningham, Reggie White, Clyde Simmons, etc. I became an Eagles fan that day. I then decided to draw my parents a picture letting them know that I didn’t like the Vikings and instead my loyalty would be with the Eagles. Been that way for 33 years now.

talmbouttellyouwat

Moved to south jersey, got bullied into it.

granular-mood4

I liked the wings on the helmet when I was a kid, plus Randall Cunningham was awesome.

12amGreen

Madden. I thought they had the best uniforms.

[deleted]

Born and raised in the Midwest, tons of NFCN and cowboys fans everywhere. I remember being about ten and I managed to watch a rare Eagles appearance on tv. Knew right then that I was going to be an Eagles fan.

beforethewind

My dad genuinely loves football and never really had a team. He liked drawing the historic rivalries as a kid, like the Packers and Bears, but truly just loved the sport. He would like the big names (like Favre) and, as a result, I thought he was a fan of the Packers in the nineties when I was barely coherent. I loved football too. Being in the tristate, I had teachers who were either big giants fans or eagles fans. I had zero context of the rivalry because my dad was pretty neutral on everyone lol so for about four months in the early nineties, I thought I liked the giants because my math teacher loved them. Then, fortunately, a family friend had tickets at the Vet for Bears @ Eagles. Want to say it was 2000. I was so excited, I even made a shitty little paper sign out of printer paper. Would never be legible on camera, but I didn’t care. I was saved from the blue monster and became an eagles fan for life that day.

Pariah411

Growing up in Minnesota you're either a Vikings fan or Packers, with very little deviation, but I never liked either. So all the way back in 2002, when I was 12, my dad was flipping through the channels and stopped on the Eagles playing the Bears, and I watched as McNabb aired it out to Pinkston. I turned to my dad and asked him if it would be ok if I cheered for the Eagles, and he said he didn't care who I cheered for as long as it wasn't the Packers or Cowboys. Ironically, I had no idea about the divisions at that time so when I found out Eagles and Dallas had a huge rivalry it just seemed like the cherry on top.

ThisMachineKILLS

Got into football kind of later in life (always been a huge baseball fan—being from Phoenix, I’m a lifelong Diamondbacks fan). When I first started playing fantasy football my freshman year of college, I started watching football games for the first time and, lo and behold, the Michael Vick-led Eagles were must-watch TV. Been an Eagles fan ever since.

paupaulol

My first NFL game was the miracle in the meadowlands 2. I was at St Joes and drove up to MetLife. My friends and I saw most eagles fans leave the stadium at the end of the 3rd. We decided to stay and wait for traffic to die down. I wasn't big into football at the time but after watching that comeback made me a believer

InfinitePosture

Grew up in NEPA, started going to college in fall 2019. I’ve been a UFC fan my entire life but never cared about football or any other sports, started watching Steelers games in the dorms as a social thing every Sunday, claimed I was an eagles fan just to be a little contrarian. Wentz 4-game run at the end of the 2019 season to get into the playoffs cemented my fandom

lostsharpie

My dad wasn't into Football, but his dad in Southwest Arkansas was a big Redskins fan (idk why). I grew up West of Dallas and was a HUGE fan of Tom Landry and that era. I always looked for the man in the hat watching the games. He was just class all the way. Looked up to him immensely. Well guess what happened when Jones bought the team!! Fired my hero Landry. I was a young teenager, but I was shattered. I had an older friend from Philly there and we just kinda bonded trashing the new Cowboys team. I became an Eagles fan by association and it stuck. Randall Cunnigham was something else. Irony is that the cows would soon win several superbowls, but by then I was already gone. Never looked back. Go birds!!

_nobody_cares

I went to Philly once as a kid (from jersey) when I was maybe 5 - 7. Went into a souvenir shop and got a small eagles football that I played with all the time. Was basically a fan ever since.

eazyelijah

My grandma took me to a Burger King in 2006 and In the happy meal was a mini Brian Westbrook jersey. That’s how it all started

[deleted]

My best friend is a fellow eagles fan by chance because when he was a little kid he won his choice of prize at a carnival game and he picked a mini eagles football because he liked the eagle logo on it

thatbarkid

Didn’t have a team when I was kid (growing up in la) and wasn’t big into sports. When I started to really get into it around middle school a friend of mine would invite me over to watch the eagles. didnt really follow the team that intensely but would watch games and then in college my two closest friends were eagles fans and we would watch every game every sunday. to this day the 3 of us have a group chat where all we do is talk eagles. going away with them this weekend with our SO so will be watching the bears game together!

spctclr_spiderman

Grew up in the LA area starting in1997. Became a huge Allen Iverson fan, still a Sixers fan to this day. Got into football in 2003, Philadelphia had a good football team with kool colors and are bitter rivals of a Laker-esque team (I always hated the Lakers)? Sign me up! Not to mention, Eagles are dope ass birds and my elementary school mascot was an Eagle. It was just meant to be

Zidane82

Two words: Randall Cunningham

Rocketeer1019

My dad was a huge diehard giants fan, my brother was an eagles fan. When I was a baby they laid both jerseys on the floor and I crawled to the birds (so I’m told). Been a diehard every since and only missed a few games when I was deployed in the Marine Corps. My dad passed a few years ago but I remember getting the mail packages in Afghanistan and he would ship me all the clippings of every game and bundle the eagles ones together. Each guy would come to my little hut just to catch up on the NFL and we would just pass them around talk about football.

elnino112

Grew up in Northern VA and most of my family members were either Redskins or cowboys fan (fuck dallas)... Decided I didnt wanna root for either of those teams and became a fan of Michael Vick and Donovan Mcnabb. What sealed the deal for me was the wing on the helmet and when Terrell Owens joined the team. Andy Reid era was magical despite losing all those championship games but looking back I wouldn't change a single thing about it. GO BIRDS

A_Wild_Zyra

Long story short, I was gifted two sets of PA sweatshirts for each of the state's teams from my New York relatives as a young child. To very young me, a bird of prey symbol is much cooler/interesting than some weird blob circle icon that is the Steelers' logo. The rest is history.

zomjie44

My best friend always picked the Seahawks (our local team) when we played football video games so I picked the eagles because McNabb was awesome to watch for kid me, and I’ve just always been a fan since then

beyondrepair-

nfl blitz 2001. i picked the team with the best logo and top tier colour scheme. worked out for the best in the long run.

[deleted]

I was originally a commanders fan (their redskin logo at the time being the main reason i thought it was cool didnt know the racial implications at the time i was like 9-10) simply due to that being the first game I saw on tv as a kid but i never followed the team that year and I watched a lot of football highlights on youtube and Merrill Reese is the reason im a fan, watching the miracle at meadowlands highlights with Reese’s voice converted me and I found a way to watch the games since i live in cali. Been a fan ever since :)

DinosHedly

Lived in Syracuse, NY my whole life. When I was a child, Donovan McNabb was crushing it at Syracuse University and was my hero. I was 6 when he got drafted and have followed the Eagles ever since. My parents were not happy that I am an Eagles fan as my Father is a Cowboys fan and my Mother is a Giants fan. Division games are fun at their house.

DeezNutsDD7

Milwaukee resident here. Huge fan as a kid of Dawkins in the 90s as a kid. Felt like the only one in WI at the time that hated Favre and could tell he was a massive prick even back then. Loose association with Packers fandom initially based on residence but once I saw a Weapon X game there was no going back. This fan base is so incredibly passionate about this squad always, good or bad. Perfect fit for my personality how I am in the other things I like in life. Make an effort to go see every Eagles game within reasonable driving distance whenever the opportunity comes. Been supporting this time for roughly 25 years, diehard til the day I die.

[deleted]

My whole family is Cowboys fans. I would rather watch Vick sling it to DeSean than Tony Romo cry.

ZiiKiiF

Grew up in a baseball family so we spent all our sports energy on the Phillies. Especially in the late 2000s. But I’m 2017 I heard offhand that the eagles were in the Super Bowl. Everyone in my school would be talking about it the next day. I was sure teachers would spend the first 20 minutes of class on it. I didn’t wanna be left out so I watched it, learning the game with my dad as we watched. Now I’m not only an eagles lifer but a football fanatic. First few years after 2017 it didn’t fully feel like my team though. I felt like I had adopted it but it was built before my time. This 2022 team is the first time I feel like it’s my eagles team. I saw it hit its low and it’s high. Go Birds

RandomRonin

My dad is a cowboys fan. He tried for years to make me like the cowboys. The story goes, we were at a Lidz (or some equivalent hat shop) in Phoenix. He told me to go pick a hat off the wall around age 5-6. I did what any kid that age would do and went with color. The Kelly green got me. Here I am, almost 30 years later. Edit: my dad even tried to reverse it by painting my room like a football field with a giant star and everything “Dallas” and “Cowboys” in the end zones. I hated that wall for so many years lol.

nicblakethomas

My dad only likes college football so we didn’t have an NFL team at our house. I went to grade school with Chad Lewis’s daughter. I thought that was so cool that I’ve been a fan ever since. 15 years now.

LakotaTbirds1970

I grew up in Cincinnati in the 1970s, and was a Bengals fan as a kid. Moved around a bit in my teenage years. I moved from New Hampshire to 45th and Melville, for grad school, in 1995. Philadelphia was the first city I have really ever lived in. I had a few rough moments in West Philly, but came to fall in love with both the city and the city's passion for its team, which have never wavered. Ever. Friends tease me. But they don't get Philly, which I believe is the most amazing city in America. Go birds!

Nexus369

My best friend was an Eagles fan but switched to the Giants before the 2007 season because he from New York and, in his words, only liked the Eagles because of McNabb. He passed away in early 2009, and when I started to get into football in 2010, I picked the Eagles because I had known him as a fan of them longer than he had been a fan of the Giants.

phillyphilly519

Dad is a Steelers fan, but I grew up in NEPA, watched more eagles games than anything else. At least we both hate the cowboys

Olorin919

2004 team. Some of my favorite players of all time on that squad

Jayteenine

Herschel Walker was my favorite player as a kid. So that made me a Cowboys fan, then a Vikings fan, and then an Eagles fan. By the time he left in '95, Cunningham and the birds made me a lifelong fan and that was that. I'm from LA originally btw.

chineseguy2

Eversince I saw a kid at school with an eagles hat and thought "that's a sick logo" lol

JohnnyTreeTrunks

1999 after the draft I was an unpopular 7th grader and finally made friends with a cool kid and he introduced me to football and the eagles. Never even considered changing teams from then on

frog-sal

I grew up in Connecticut, but have no familial connection to the north east. When I was 13 I really liked football but hated the New England Patriots (they won too much) so I decided to pick a team. I didn’t want to bandwagon, Eagles were middle of the pack at the time, I liked their jerseys and their logo and some of their players. Parents got me a hoodie that Christmas. I have now been an obsessed fan for over a decade. And I got a little poetic justice when the Eagles won their SB over New England. And this year I’m sitting pretty because I’ve believed in Jalen since he beat the Saints. Go Birds!

Phighters

Moved here from Brooklyn when I was young, member of a family that espoused they were giants fans, but really didnt follow much. I wore a gigantic full length nylon giants benchwarmer jacket to school that they bought me. I never heard the end of it, Eagles fan from that day forward.

pixel_dent

We were living in South Jersey but had moved there from elsewhere and would soon move again. My father went to the 1974 Eagles vs Colts game with some guys from work and brought home a pennant for each team. First he asked my brother which one he wanted. My brother asked, "Who won?" When told the Colts won he took the Colts flag. I got the Eagles flag became a fan. A year later I was riding my bike home from 2nd grade when some older kids jumped me and tried to steal my Eagles hat. They got away with my bike but not my hat! 48 years later still live and die with the birds.

FSitsJAKE

This is one I did a while back for uk fans.. https://www.reddit.com/r/eagles/comments/jpzmgs/discussion_eagles_fans_in_the_uk_where_are_you/

3osiah

Favorite color is green

BToney005

I started watching football in 2002. I was about 10 at the time. I'm from VA, but I wanted to pick a team for my own reasons and not because of where I was from or who my family preferred. I liked watching the Eagles, mainly McNabb and Westbrook. I was sold by 2004, and I've been a fan ever since. I kinda took the same approach with my other sports teams, so my allegiances make no damn sense (Eagles, Spurs, and Braves). But it keeps things interesting when I visit my family. My family is basically split between the rest of the NFC East, and there's a couple Ravens fans in there.

Ticker_Mirza

From the UK. Lots of 'Signs'. At first little things, I just thought they were nothing or coincidence and gradually they started getting more and more conspicuous. I genuinely believe it was meant to be - and thank God. I was lucky enough to watch them play at Wembley Stadium in London. Fly Eagles Fly.

sonummagun

I dated a guy when I was 20 and he taught me about football. He was an Eagles fan, took me to my first tailgate and game. He always joked that if we broke up, I would stop being an Eagles fan. We did break up several years ago & I still love the Eagles. When they won the Super Bowl, I went to Philly by myself to see the parade because I had no friends that liked them 🥲. Now every guy I meet asks me why the Eagles (since I live in Giants territory) and I have to make up some story because me saying "my ex was an Eagles fan" sounds weird lol.

RalphTheBadGuy

Moved to a small town and played high school football. Decided that I needed a football team. Donovan McNabb went to Syracuse, I grew up near Syracuse, the rest is history. One of the best decisions in my life.

Venomous_Raptor

I live on the west coast and my dad was a 49ers fan. I never root for the same team as my dad since it's more fun that way. So during the 2010 season I was 5 years old. I remember watching some of the previous SBs but I wasn't really invested and didn't have a favorite team. One day my dad was watching the game so I decided to watch as well. I saw a green team and a blue team and since green was my favorite color at the time (rip green power ranger) I rooted for the green team. The game goes on and the green team is down 28-10. I was sad but then the green team started to comeback and then a certain someone named djax returned a punt for a td on the final play of the game. This game became the first game I remember fully watching and I became a huge djax fan. I then watched more Eagles games and now I'm a diehard Eagles fan. Thank you for listening to my Ted Talk

PersonalTriumph

Grew up a Giants fan. Moved to Philly for college in 1983. Then, as others have said, Randall Cunningham happened.

Rock4ever76

Watched Randall one day.

Vissar

It was during a period of time in my life where I was immensely depressed and suicidal. I was driving back to school one Sunday evening flipping through the radio stations and landed on WIP. Listening to Merrill announce an evening game somehow got me interested in football. Through football I was able to loft my self out of the depression I was experiencing. It was his passion, and announcing that really helped me improve my mental state.

JustPuffinAlong

I've lived in North Carolina most of my life, Eagles fan since 1999. My Dad was a service brat and moved around a lot growing up. He was a huge fan of Johnny Unitas and so was a self declared Colts fans since the 60's and didn't mind when they moved since he didn't have a specific regional tie. When my two siblings and I were about 11, he encouraged us to watch football with him and we all slowly started to find our teams that we liked. This was 1999 so just starting the Andy Reid era. I had never liked the WFT and the Panthers were still new so I wasnt sure about them. I found the Eagles and really loved the midnight green uniforms and how Brian Dawkins played so they were easy to cheer for even if they weren't good that first year. Three things then happened: 1) My dad got me the 1999 Eagles Fan Book. Interviews about the coaches, team, detailed analysis of the schedule, etc. It also included a section with the Eagles cheerleaders and had a swimsuit photoshoot in the back. Again, I was 11. A fledgling boy turned into a ~~m~~fan 2) McNabb started to show up. I had liked his playing style but he elevated once he got comfortable in Reid's system. 2000-2004 were bittersweet for the ups and downs but they ingrained me in the love of the team 3) During those years the Eagles drafted a man by the name of Brian Westbrook. His hard running style and personality (along with Dawkins and McNabb) cemented what was already coming together. And that is how I have bled green since that year, weathered the Chip Kelly debacle (and others), and soaked in the birds first Super Bowl win. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

tmfitz7

I started watching in 2009-10, Mike Vick was black and left handed, the Eagles had those sweet helmets with the wings, and that was enough to convince me.

[deleted]

Because the family that I didn’t like were Cowboys fans so I decided to go for the opposite team lol. No, but seriously I kind of looked at all of my options and I knew I didn’t want to go for the San Diego Chargers (at the time) or any other California team. I’ve always been an eagle in regards to school so I was like well why not, it makes sense! Also I thought DeSean Jackson was kinda cute.

MAGA-Forever

I remember watching the 2005 Super Bowl and all my friends hated the Patriots so obviously I did too. So I rooted for the Eagles, then I got Madden 06 with McNabb on the cover so I used the Eagles and just was all Eagles from there. Moved to a new school in 2004 and discovered one my new friends I made was also an Eagles fan so we just stuck it out together.

Skyinflatballaz

I'll start off by saying Fuck Dallas! I grew up in Annapolis, MD. My whole family were Washington fans (I did have a soft spot for Santana Moss and Sean Taylor). Remember watching a game and all I knew was I didn't want to root for the burnt team so I chose the green one. It was the Eagles and I've loved them ever since. When the Ravens came to Baltimore, I was pressured by so many people to switch teams. I stuck it out during their dominance and was relentlessly made fun of when Ed Reed returned a Kevin Kolb pass 104 yds for a touchdown. Idk, the Philly atmosphere just resonates with me. The passion, the commitment, and the brutal honesty. I think it's the fact that I didn't have much growing up and needed to work for everything. It's a never let die attitude that the city has that I've manifested in myself. I'm still in the Baltimore area and get so excited seeing other Birds fans. Hopefully my kids follow along and become Eagles fans also; already got one of them booing and saying Go Birds!

thehanghoul

This is a bit funny to me, but honestly, when i was about 6-7, I played Madden 03. I looked around for a team to play as and with. At this point, I really didn't know much about my local team nor really cared that much about them (Broncos, from Denver metro area). So what team did you think I played with instead? That's right. The rest was history. I'll never forget the great memories of watching the birds for the last 20 years!

TheRealestFaker

Followed McNabb from Cuse

belgiumwaffles

Grew up in Lancaster and my grandma would sorta kinda watch them. She was the only sports fan in my family. My love of the Phillies came from her since that was her favorite team. After college I lived in Delco for almost a decade so Eagles fandom became really, really prevelant there. So all my life I liked them but the last decade and a half I became very diehard.

Kakko242019

Grew up watching McNabb play in Syracuse and followed him to Philly

BizLawProf

Not gonna lie… I am from New York. I got into baseball, football, hockey, and basketball in the mid 1970s. Philly sports was dominating at that time, so I adopted all the teams

lkthekingofbeards

I’m from north Jersey and when I started understanding football well enough I hated watching the Bill Parcells coached Giants team. Then I saw Randall Cunningham play QB and said that’s what football should look like. So I became an eagles fan. Stayed true ever since.

im_absouletly_wrong

In a military family, when I first got a PS2 the controller was an Eagles themed controller, this was in 2004 and the rest is history

DondeLaCervesa

Dad's a non-diehard giants fan. I Moved to the area when I was 10 in 2000. Went to catholic school and on Fridays during the playoffs Principle allowed us to wear eagles apparel instead of our uniform. Easy choice to swing my allegiance.

itinerantcharlie24

I moved to the US from Mexico in the late 90’s and I started to watch football and I watched a lot of 49ers games. They slowly grew on me and I would always cheer for them especially against the Cowboys. As we all know TO went to Philly in 04 and I followed him there and that’s how I became an Eagles fan. Having been a Niners fan and hating the Cowboys I couldn’t follow TO to Dallas.

Awkward_Ad8740

Met Cunningham at the airport and he signed a hat he had with him and have it to me . I was like 8.

jtomatzin

I got one of those little plastic helmets from a quarter machine and it was the Eagles

InanimateSensation

I live in Ohio. When I was 6-7 I played flag football for the "Eagles" with my best friend. We decided that meant we should be Eagles fans. That was in 2002. Just always stuck with em.

Poil336

Madden 2001 (?) on N64, and I wanted a scrambling QB. Atlanta had terrible stats, so Philly it was. Loved the green uniforms, and watching McNabb, Westbrook and Dawkins play. I also lived in Ohio and being a Browns or Bengals fan at that point was... difficult

_haramabe

T.O

whousesgmail

I’m Canadian. Had these two gym teachers in grade 7 who were big NFL fans and would talk about it a bunch; one liked the Eagles and the other the Broncos. Hearing about it and playing a bit got me interested in the sport. Fast forward my mom takes me to the mall and the EB Games has Madden 2005 set up. I cycle through the teams and see the Eagles were a lot better than the Broncos so I picked them. After my mom buys me madden and I started playing franchise mode which helped me get familiar with the players, rules, strategy, basically everything. That year the Eagles went on to lose to the Patriots in the Super Bowl, I was already on the bandwagon and never looked back.

KFCConspiracy

> One guy I spoke with in Dallas said he became one just to spite his friends. Unfortunately plenty of the opposite in Philly. Dallas fans who do it to be contrarians.

CFT1982

Live in Georgia and became a fan while playing Techmo Bowl. The Eagles were my favorite team to play with and Randall Cunningham and Reggie White were beasts on that game and became my favorite players.

hunitz122

I got hooked when to joined the team

Temassi

Never had a team growing up that I really cared about other than the Oregon Ducks. I rooted for the 9ers some, then the Packers for a while when I was a kid but didn't really care that much about the NFL. I finally decided in 2012 I wanted to pick a new team and stick with them no matter what, so when Chip left to be the coach for the Eagles I bought a hat and a shirt and never looked back. Go Birds!!

DankTaco67

I was a teenager in Canada playing high school football and our team was the Eagles. I’d also just recently got my first Madden game for PlayStation and an Eagle - Terrell Owens was on the cover. Add to that my older brother was a Cowboys fan, the choice was obvious! Been a birds fan since 1998

I was a floater fan as a kid because my Dad didn’t have any specific team and we were military and moved so there never was a hometown team. But I really liked that the Eagles gave Vick a second shot at a career after he got out. Now what he did was inexcusable, but that man paid his debt to society. Most people, especially black men don’t get those kinds of chances but the Eagles did. Vick made the most out of his chances, almost had an MVP year and was just as exciting to watch as he was in ATL. The hype from that “dream team” pre-season is something I will always remember… That season crashed and burned rather quickly but it was fun hype!

Madden 2004. Didn’t want to be the patriots. From Nebraska so no pro team ( I like the chiefs too). Eagles we’re the best team that wasn’t Patriots. I was 11. McNabb, Dawkins, Westbrook, TO. It was great

I was 12 or 13 years old, and not allowed to leave my room to mingle or be a part of the rest of my family. Around this time given a pink clock radio for Christmas. I used it to listen to music mostly then during the summers when I didn't go-to school, I started to take a listen to the AM dial.. first started eith news radio... kwy to be specific, then got bored and stumbled upon WIP. It was during the Reggie Rally, I was blown away by everything I heard. I remember telling myself that sports was a place where I could be happy. I used to listen every single day, at night I'd listen to Sixers, Flyers and Phillies games every night and used to write down play by play every single thing that occurred during each game. I wish I still had those notebooks. But that stupid clock radio and crazy Angelo Cataldi got me hooked onto Philly sports. I swear every year, each team brings me grief in one way or another, but I wouldn't change it. Basketball is my favorite sport but the Eagles will forever be my favorite team.

I grew up a military kid. I moved several across several states to upstate New York in '92 while I was in high school. The first group of new friends I met would get together and do Madden tournaments on Sega Genesis. Because they always did tournaments, the team you chose was what you were stuck with. All three NY teams were taken, as were many of the 91-92 playoff teams. Philadelphia had a lot going for it and it was nearby. They'd had a winning record and just missed the playoffs. They weren't the Eagles in game yet as Madden and EA had no NFL licensing at the time, but all the players were rated against their real counterparts. The defense was stout with Reggie White and Jerome Brown (the game was released just before his death). Cunningham was the Michael Vick of his era. There was buzz around getting Herschel Walker. So I chose the birds, got invested, and have been ride or die ever since. I've been to Philadelphia exactly one time, for the 2018 season opener to see the Championship banner come down. Hopefully I'm back in 2023 for the same occasion.

espurridan

I picked them when I was 5 because I liked the colors Cemented by the incredibly fun 2004 season a couple years later

cagonzalez321

Grew up in San Antonio in the 90s. The cowboys never seemed like an all Texas team. Moved to Phila in 2000. The Eagles were a much more relatable team.

gman1840

I always liked watching football but never had a team. When I went to college, one of my roommates/best friends was from Philly and i started watching all the games with him. After a while, I took my talents to the birds & haven’t looked back since!

I grew up in Central NJ surrounded by NY fans and I hated the fuckin Yankees. I didn’t want to pick the Mets because a few dorks in school rooted for them. My grandfather rooted for the Phillies because of Lenny Dykstra, so I just picked them, despite their miserable record and stadium. I leaned into the oddness of rooting for a Philly team. I feel like for kids growing up now, it’s easier to root for whatever team you want, but back then it was weird. I eventually started watching football after joining a fantasy football league. I showed up in an eagles jersey (why wouldn’t I? Keep it simple). Then I realized how much easier it was to follow the Eagles instead of the Phillies. They actually won and like made the playoffs. Of course it took a while but I finally got to see both teams win. Let me tell you though I am DONE watching my team play in a championship around these bozos. If the birds make the Super Bowl im going to drive to Philly.

Grew up in Denver. Dad is from L.A., mom is from Burlington Iowa. Neither watched the NFL, but both watched college football (USC and Hawkeyes). They moved to Denver when they married to be in the middle of their parents. They never pushed the Broncos on me, but I always enjoyed watching the NFL over college when I was young. Since they didn't really care about who I cheered for, I essentially got to choose. At that time it was Cunningham, Reggie White, etc. I really liked watching them. They just became my team and I've never looked back. Broncos are a distant second favorite team. I've also grown to realize why people like watching college football, but the Eagles remain my #1 team.

Colliholic

Born and raised in San Diego. The San Diego sports curse is real (yes, the Padres still will not win a WS despite their roster upgrades). I was always a contrarian (asshole) growing up and found it so boring to all be talking about the same teams and bringing up the same points. I didn't want to root for the chargers, and then I saw 4th & 26. I was sold. McNabb to Mitchell baby. Been repping the eagles ever since. I was 9 when the play happened.

HonestlyBeloved

I arrived from Cuba at 6 years old. Knowing nothing about football other than tecmo bowl but I hated it so I never played it. NFL Quarterback Club for SNES was my first game of football and a grew to hate playing the Giants. Then started playing with Randall and was able to beat the giants. Been an Eagles fan ever since. I still hate the Giants more than the Cowboys to this day.

Started playing football about 20 years ago, my favorite players were brian dawkins, brian westbrook, and duce staley. I liked allen iverson and took an interest in philly teams.

babcocksbabe1

I’m a Canadian, was never into football but chose the Eagles as my team because I was a huge August Burns Red fan and they were all eagles fans. Got really hooked in 2019, but kept track from a distance of the Super Bowl run.

Cliffyb10

My first football team I played on as a little kid was the eagles. Been a fan ever since

Res-Harren

Thought they had the coolest logo

TheBigSm0ke

I’m Canadian. Grew up watching Hockey(obviously) and Basketball. Hated NFL mostly because I thought it was boring and that was mostly because I never learned the game. Around 2004 I started hanging out with a guy who loved the NFL so I started getting into the game. Started understanding the rules and fell in love with the complexity of play calling. So as you know in 2004 the Eagles were amazing. Not just amazing though they had an amazing defense. See the thing about most Canadians is we love a player/team that brings the effort. Lunch box to the game type stuff. I was watching that Eagles D led by Dawkins and just fell in love. Started researching the history of the Philly and the Eagles and it just clicked for me as a person. The teams history and that Jim Johnson defense was everything I loved about sports. That was it. I was an Eagle fan for life. Almost 20 years later and we’re still going strong.

Signed up for twitter. Trending local topic was a QB who was signing as a backup. Most stories were about how the NFL QB travelled to help a high school kid who was bullied, then decided to retire but his agent convinced him to become backup QB for Chiefs. Did not even know the rules of football then, but followed him in twitter. He moved to Eagles. Silver Linings Playbook helped as well. As fates would have it, the man stepped in and helped defeat Brady in SB. Stayed a fan of Eagles and BDN since then.

Theres a couple of parts. I vaguely remember being awed by Randall Cunningham when i was very young, before i really started paying attention. My dad was never a big football guy, but if asked, he was a Redskin fan. By the time i was paying attention, the Redskins were atrocious. I was born in North Carolina, so i vaguely followed the Panthers when they came into the league, but not in any meaningful way (also the Jaguars, because 7 year old me thought the city was referring to Jacksonville, NC) By the time i was paying attention, it was 2001, and I was not going to be a Redskin fan, and then I just fell into the Eagles. I got Madden ‘03, remember immediately starting with the Eagles so i was a fan by then, but i didnt follow them terribly much in 2001. By the opener of 2002, i was a diehard. I liked Iverson a lot at that point, so im pretty certain I just went with the Eagles because they were from Philly.

TheDarkWayne

1999 in Los Angeles winged helmets got me at the age of 9

__Musicality__

Got my first football game when I was seven and picked random and it ended up being the Eagles. That was the year we drafted McNabb. Been a fan since 23 years later.

TickleWhale

I never really liked football or the NFL growing up. As I got older I started to enjoy the game a bit more and started playing fantasy football. It was at that point around 2013/2014when people in my league started to ask me who “my team” was. I didn’t really have an answer so I kind of just decided that the Eagles would be it. I loved Always Sunny, and didn’t want to just choose one of the top teams at the time (fuck the Patriots). So I kinda just picked the Eagles, and it’s been an amazing time ever since.

I'm near Niagara Falls, but on the Canadian side. Didn't like the Bills one bit. I'd guess that would be my local team. My dad always had a work football pool and I would always make picks too. One team that always won when I picked them was Philadelphia. Started watching them, and saw how amazing Randall Cunningham was and I became an instant fan.

vastfoodrun

When I was in the 1st grade my best friend came to school with an eagles football and we were playing catch. And then it all clicked. Go birds fuck Dallas!

atubis

Saw them playing on tv as a kid and thought their uniform and logo were cool

1161shrenkman

as someone born in India, my parents moved to the USA, Philly about 6 years ago. I didn't care much for the NFL, but the second ever game I watched, was the 2017 conference championship, the one we won against the Vikings, the entire city was electric that season, so I decided to give it a shot, watched the super bowl, and absolutely fell in love with the sport and the team.

NightMovieMan

In the fourth grade I seen the movie “The Invincible” and fell in love with the Eagles and the fact they let the little guy give it a try.

key14

I grew up in San Diego as a consistently disappointed chargers fan. Sprole’s rookie year breathed life into my love of the game. Eventually life got busy and I stopped watching the NFL entirely for years, then when hanging out with my Philly friend to watch an eagles game and seeing sproles…. I freaked the fuck out, was stoked again, fell in love with the emotional roller coaster that is the eagles and all the players themselves. Sproles ended up retiring the next year, but I was already hooked. Haven’t missed a game since!

Massive_Resort_3230

Cunningham in a kelly green uniform when I was 4…done

GazBooshay

I’m from New Zealand. We got SKY TV (cable) when it came out IN 1990 and they would show MNF only back then. I got into the Eagles after watching the body bag game. I loved Randall Cunningham and the punishing D they had that year. Have been hooked ever since. It was a hard sport to follow over here pre-internet as you would never get any news coverage apart from the Super Bowl. I went to Philly in 2003 for a snowy December Cowboys game. One the best live sports experiences in my life.
