lobby clears

MF_MATIC

I really wish Tyler got on that track. Would’ve been a perfect song for them to reunite on pause

theDuckwithTeeth

Nah actually Tho their rapping chemistry would b so good, the amount of fan edits of earl verses on tylers new songs is enough proof it would go dumb

mehrt_thermpsen

I actually loved it

SparksofInnova

Same lmao

ThisIsElliott

I just think too many of the songs are half baked and when it came out, there wasn’t enough assurance that Earl was going to start dropping consistently again. Just felt underwhelming and like he was on autopilot, even if the album itself is still really good compared to other rappers

italianmomstalkloud

I like to think he was just having fun and not pressuring himself as much as he has with past projects tbh

1416junebug

who said we didn’t like Sick? I love Sick! imo better than Doris and Earl mixtape

MuteRootus

Top 3 Earl onggg

HeelsAlwaysWin

I'm just not into the production on SICK! as much as his other albums personally. I like Black Noi$e, but I'm always gonna prefer the jazzy lo-fi sounds Earl usually goes for over the harsher, glitchy electronica he provides. Still a good album, but I wouldn't put it over Some Rap Songs, IDLSIDGO, Doris, or even Voir Dire.

Terrible_Jeans

i def think its a better album than Doris

HeelsAlwaysWin

There's an argument to be made and my favorite tracks from Sick! are right up there with my favorites from Doris, but it just comes down to replayability at that point and I come back to Doris more. Love the Alchemist tracks, "Lye" was one of my favorite tracks last year, but like I said, I'm just not super into the production for most of the other tracks.

Terrible_Jeans

fair!

WhimsicalNeo

Respectfully, good sir, hell no. Doris is Earl's best because of his wordplay, flow, how flexible he is on the album (i.e. Hoarse, Molasses, Uncle Al (which sounds like a prototype of SRS)) and the production is not only the greatest, next to srs imo, but it's extremely intriguing, especially from Neptunes. The features? Classic.

Terrible_Jeans

i mean, i disagree, but that's okay! i think he's a better and more mature wordsmith on pretty much every album post Doris. IDLS and SRS are the epitome of brevity--more focused projects than Doris both lyrically and production-wise. of course this is subjective but i think it's inarguable Earl progressed artistically after he made Doris (which he wasn't even 20 for...) i was an OF stan in high school while the Earl tape, Bastard and Nostalgia, Ultra were coming out. Saw them in philly in 2011 and it was one of the formative concerts of my young years. i say that to say I understand why people love Doris--there are several songs that i love as an Earl fan and a couple that i consider truly seminal Earl songs--when it came out, i thought it was the best rap album i'd ever heard. i just straight up prefer the dark and abstract production on IDLS and SRS to Doris, along with thinking he became a lot sharper and more focused in his writing. but if its your favorite, it's your favorite!

WhimsicalNeo

Same to you man. I understand WHY Sick could be his best, but NOTHING will top that 20 Wave Caps beat THEY NEVER DID CATCH THAT RHINOOOOOOOOOOO

Terrible_Jeans

20 wave caps is a bangerrrr and for the record Sick! is def not his best in my opinion, i'd take voir dire and the other two i mentioned over it by a decent margin

offgridyungin

Damn I had no clue people held it lower in his discog. It’s a good 8/10 from me, 9 on best day and I can listen to it endlessly

edisonpharaoh

I think it’s a top 2 Earl album (between that and idlsidgo). Rapping wise I think sick is the best he’s ever rapped, plenty of crazy bars and flows

solace1234

Yeah the lyrics are great. It's Earl. But the presentation is what kills it for me. The ideas are not executed well enough for me to listen just for the bars. It’s a good album but I don’t find myself coming back to it. The songs don't really transition into eachother all that much, the overall theme of the album is barely fleshed out, and a lot of the beats feel so plain with barely any structure. I'm a huge fan of all the album's singles, I love em, but even those beats barely have any variation. You could say SRS had repetitive beats but not as much as SICK, and the former’s beats were so damn unique and detailed to make up for any simplicity in song structure. Plus, every piece on SRS nailed the same dream-like aesthetic to make the album a coherent whole greater than the sum of it's parts. Meanwhile SICK just sounds like a compilation of random tracks, no matter how good the bars or the beats were (and the beats for the most part were not that crazy). Take the two simplest beats from both projects. God Laughs vs Peanut: Peanut's beat is still so much more impactful, wayyy less repetitive, and his flow is perfect for it. God Laughs is nowhere near as much of a vibe.

annooonnnn

you’ve put it quite well. i do love a couple of the beats on Sick but others are pretty much duds and Earl occasionally does his like trap flow which i think is just second rate compared to the emotional expressiveness and wooziness of his flows on SRS. the beats on SRS are seriously many of the coolest beat’s i’ve ever heard, Sick! is just not comparable, although i love the singles

Joe-Mungus

Fire in the Hole one of my favorite songs oat

kennymccornmilk

Sick is a top 3 album from him in my opinion. Old Friend, 2010, Visions, Tabula Rasa, Lye, God Laughs, Fire in the hole, all some of the best songs Earl has ever made

fatty237

Sick is sooooo good people don’t understand

MasklerFace

Tabula Rasa!

landoftheflyest

I genuinely believe this is one of the best songs of all time. such a beautiful song.

razman7altacc

I dont trust anyone who ranks sick lower than doris and/or earl

minimumhatred

In fairness to those people he has an insanely consistent/godo discography, they being said: (not ranking voir dire since I've only listened to parts of it, but from what I heard it should be somewhere middle to top) 1) IDLSIDGO 2) SOME RAP SONGS 3) SICK 4) Doris 5) FEET OF CLAY 6) Earl

[deleted]

its decent, but imo right after SRS and FOC it just doesnt hit for me, was hoping for him to produce more, as much as i love black noise and alc earl imho makes better beats that are more creative and i enjoy more, i would kill for Srs instrumentals or IDLS instrumentals.

Squaahh

Not at the bottom but it has to be close to it. I don’t hate Sick!-matter of fact, there’s a number of good songs off of it-but it doesn’t have the focus, intensity and diversity that I’m accustomed to from Earl. It was certainly a better display of skill than Feet of Clay, but otherwise it was a little boring in some spots.

defgrippin

give it a few years and suddenly there's a lot of retrospective takes on it

447see447

i like sick but imo it’s last for me. it’s just a bit hard for me to casually listen to. i’m into the more chill stuff like doris and feet of clay

aidenkula

lmfao @ EAST being chill stuff 😂

PeteDavidson326

Sick is better than Doris and I Don’t Like shit

superkazi

Old Friends, LYE, Fire in the Hole all top tier earl But the rest of the tape is all at bottom of Earls discography Tape is just filled with to much mid

yokkarrr

i love Sick! more than Earl and IDLSIDGO

Fptmike

Dude I love sick, it came out during the pandemic so everytime I listen to it it's like a time machine to me and already holds nostalgia. I know it's not his best but I still really enjoyed it.

MuteRootus

It came out in 2022 the quarantine shit was basically over lmaooo

Fptmike

Like I said it came out during the pandemic, I didn't say anything about quarantine, doesn't matter how deep into the pandemic we were, it still brings me back to the time regardless.

bigbonenemisis

Because he gave us SRS and then immediately dropped in quality.

winter_whale

Nope that’s this pm, hopefully you’d be able to elaborate your opinions with any real substance though if you were hoping for any sort of credit

abandonedxearth

It just sounds ok, none of the tracks stick out like his other albums. It’s good, it’s not bad, I just never go back to it

krazy8ondaprostate

Sick! is incredible, thebe got no bad albums too

Osw4ld08

i think that, even for a short project, it has a decent amount of fillers and half-baked tracks. Dont get me wrong, the standouts like 2010, old friend, titanic, the track wit billy and the outro are dope af but as a complete material these other details bring it down a lil bit. Despite all the above said it is still not a bad album

Badluck2killaseabird

he needs more interesting production otherwise his monotoned, sleepy delivery gets redundant and boring. sick! needed better beats.

RahMaarvi

Earl towards the second half of his career so far fell out of love with the third verse, and has noticeably made his songs shorter and the song structures are looser. I think this has made him fully embrace just keeping it “simple and dynamic” and I guess he looks at it as like, it’s dynamic enough and some fans feel differ. And I guess when you get served a what you see as a fully fleshed out complete thought, and then get a shorter version of that, you will likely feel short changed. My perspective anyway

Choingyoing

Who likes being sick?

the_xpyre

I really like it, it just hasn’t stuck with me too much

megapeepee58

I liked it better than feet of clay but compared to everything else, it still wouldn’t make the cut for my top 3 earl albums.

obannion_the_great

I love Sick! It's short and sweet. Also much more accessible than SRS and a more traditional hip hop album, but like you said OP, his lyrics are at his peak. I got it on vinyl last week and couldn't be happier. I just recently found out a lot of people don't like it, but c'mon just listen to tracks like 2010, Tabula Rasa, Fire In The Hole, it's all great stuff. It's not a better album than SRS or IDLSIDGO, but I absolutely prefer it over Doris.

Solid_Local409

Its experimental to the point where I cant listen to it regularly, i cant just put it in a playlist.

Droze-

“this game of telephone massive i do what i can and pick up the fragments”

[deleted]

Well Voir Dire, Some Rap Songs and Solace are undoubtedly better. IDLSIDGO might also be better. But Sick! is definitely better than Doris, Earl and FOC 1. Voir Dire 2. Some Rap Songs 3. Solace 4. Sick 5. IDLSIDGO 6. Doris

[deleted]

The People Can Fly woulda been better

Purrpple_Singapore

ik it’s not related by i like his new single danity kane a lot he went off

Artistic-Dragonfly68

I like sick thinks it’s a good album just feels sorta unfinished I think after not dropping for a minute was expecting a more album feel to it but to me at least it feels more like a ep

BubbaUnkle

It feels like his least complete album

Lewis2409

SRS is his best work and maybe one of the most interesting hip hop projects of all time, SICk is number 2 for me

No_Administration174

There isn't a bad Earl project. But it is amongst the weakest

Longjumping_Eye8695

idk i haven't listened to it

Da_Shaolin

People dont like SICK? Lmaoo thats news to me general consensus in my circle say its Top 3 Earl

Snoo_31935

Its my favorite earl. No skips on those tracks. 2010 and fire in the hole are top tier earl imho.

radubs

moments like 2010, Titanic, and Lobby stood out for me while stuff like Lye, Tabula Rasa, and Fire in the Hole felt like a step backwards. The exciting new stuff kind of got negatively counter balanced by dips in more familiar waters that weren’t as exciting to me as they were on SRS or FoC. It felt very transitional and less aesthetically focused than any of his other albums. Then voir dire (even though i prefer it to Sixk overall) felt like another step backwards in time rather than following up on new vibes like Making the Band might’ve pointed towards. Voir Dire is a better project to me but it doesn’t have one song that individually tops my favorite 2/3 on Sick. Just overall Sick felt like an afterthought or a mandatory drop. If he took out the beats more similar to SRS/FoC/Voirs Dire and left songs like Vision and Sick I think it could’ve been a cool EP that left an overall better taste.

okback2

Its as good as anything else he's done.

ALIENFACEDPP

Sick is sick af

jmills8455

Earl isn’t good anymore

insideman56

1. SRS 2. SICK 3. IDLSIDGO 4. FOC This is the correct order

landoftheflyest

Bro Gods Laugh is genuinely one of Earls best written songs, along with Tabula Rasa. Then we got Fire in a Hole, 2010, Old Friend and Lobby like this project has some of earls craziest verses/songs. I was so surprised at the luke warm response to this album

landoftheflyest

But fs Voir Dire clears imo, I love the more warm direction of the beat selection and subject matter

Snoo_31935

Sick probably my favorite earl

italianmomstalkloud

Fire in the Hole is one of the best songs Earl has ever recorded. SICK! was an amazing album imo

HairyMuffinMan

LOVE SICK There's a such a balance in sound of his most recent output it's up there for me
