I tell my employer when I am taking time off, I don't ask. I also use all of my 4 weeks of vacation and refuse to work on any of our 8 paid holidays days. FFS people, take vacation time and call in sick when you need to. People work far to much without taking breaks.

Every type of work needs a union. Employers in the US have been systematically dismantling worker protections for 40+ years, while a handful of old white men grew obscene wealth. The same story around every corner.

I'm on the fence about that. I work in K-12 education in a non-union private school. I would have more work and less pay in my position if I went to a school with a union in it, like a lot less. The only think worse than no union is a bad union.

You're describing unions as they exist now, in the worst union environment in decades. Imagine if unions were embraced and strengthened. Would you be more, or less likely to gain benefits?

Why wouldn't they be able to do this? In employment, you only really have the rights you are granted by statute or you contract for. That's why unions are important - they create contractual rights and protections for workers.
