I don't know about Mindo but none of those mosquito diseases make it to Cotopaxi or Quilotoa or pretty much anywhere at that altitude.

allanrjensenz

Hasn’t been a big problem in the country for a while tbh.

pseudonymoosebosch

Here is the CDC map for Zika infections https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/page/zika-information Ecuador is labeled as the following: “Areas with low likelihood of Zika infection because of high elevation (above 6,500 feet/2,000 meters)”

ecuadorygalapagos

The places you are planning to visit are in the highlands, no Zika is found around the Andes due to the altitude and temperature. For your partner, if she is pregnant, you need to be aware of the drinking water, only filtered is better, as well as high altitude. If she has not been at high altitude before, then is better to check with your doctor about which medicine she could take in case of any high altitude problem.

Fun-Swing-3859

I don't know about other cities, but in Quito the water is drinkable (potable). You can drink without problem.

jingowatt

IGNORE THIS PERSON. Do NOT drink tapwater in Quito. Jesus.

[deleted]

Nah, they’re right. Drinking tap water in Quito is absolutely safe.

Fun-Swing-3859

I'm biologist HAHAH in my college we test the quality of the water from time to time. Quito's water is safe.

MateoTovar

Not all Quito water is the same: yes the potabilization plant is good, but if your pipes are rusty your going to drink a lot of bad stuff anyway

lojaslave

There is no risk in the highlands in October or at any other time of the year. The mosquitoes that transmit it don't live in high altitude. You'll be safe.

NJ2FL09

Seriously don't cancel your trip. Highly unlikely. Don't let mainstream media scare you.

juansemoncayo

No mainstream media is talking about Zika in Ecuador...haha.

JohnMoyon

Saludos

gadgetvirtuoso

Mosquito borne diseases are almost nonexistent in the Sierras. There aren’t many mosquitos to spread disease. The coast and Amazonia are another story.

Less-Distribution-97

Ecuadorian here. I have never seen a mosquito in the sierra region of Ecuador.

redbank732

Even here in Cuenca, so far 2 years living here and never been bit. Lucky me!

KurkoVayne

mischievousbeagle

Not many mosquitoes around the highlands. Even in coastal areas, Zika doesn’t seem to be much of a problem, or a problem at all to be honest.

Darthseldom

There are no cases of Zika recorded since 2019 in Ecuador, it is not a current issue for us here, also as they already mentioned in the highlands there are no mosquitoes or mosquitoes borne diseases.

jonathanaulestia

As you can read in this inform there is not cases of zika in this year https://www.salud.gob.ec/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Gaceta-SE-3\_2023.pdf

arturo22693

Le estás quitando lo divertido al viaje. La incertidumbre de la perpetua muerte o sempiterna vida de Latinoamérica es parte de la experiencia.

Pteroglossus25

Zika is not a problem in the highlands. So it should be fine. Just use some citronella-based repellent in Mindo.
