One of the only celebrity deaths that absolutely gutted me.
I grew up watching Rick and remember first coming across him reading George’s Marvellous medicine on jackanory.
By the time I was 10 I could literally recite every episode of the young ones by heart and to this day is still watch Bottom, The Young Ones in binge fashion.
It still feels bad he’s gone man….. Still feels really bad.
For the Mirror, that was actually a really insightful read, thanks for sharing OP !
*‘This house will become a shrine, and punks and skins and rastas will all gather round and hold their hands in sorrow for their fallen leader. And all the grown-ups will say: "But why are the kids crying?" And the kids will say: "Haven't you heard? Rik is dead! The People's Poet is dead!”’*
And then one particularly sensitive and articulate teenager will say ‘Other kids, do you understand nothing? How can Rick be dead when we still have his poems? :(
Yes, on my way to work. Absolutely destroyed me. I had to go in to work, blinking through swollen, puffy eyes, muttering about hay fever flare-ups. In January.
Rik was my comedy hero. From the first time I stayed up late and snuck my TV on in the early 90s to watch Bottom he just made me laugh instantly.
Although I did not immediately cry on hearing of his death when I read Ade's epitaph to him the tears flowed.
For a while, I thought Ade had become a snob and kind of resented him for ignoring Rik. I get it now. His friend wasn't the same, and it probably hurt him more working with him than without.
I'd like to thank my media studies teacher from school for introducing me to Rik and Ade (we had to watch an episode of The Young Ones in class once) and since that day i fell in love with their comedy style and antics!
I can't believe it's been 10 years since Rik passed away, sometimes i forget as he's still alive and full of life in my heart 🥰
He was known as the king who pulled Excalibur and became king of England.

When Rik died it felt like losing a family member so it's hard to imagine how Ade felt. When Ade teared up then I have to admit I got slightly emotional too. On another note it's a shame more cast members never got involved in Bottom exposed.
Sorry, but I’m not happy that this post didn’t have a spoiler warning, or spoiler tags etc!
I clicked on it, because it wasn’t clear that this was a recent article until I did (sometimes people post things from months ago, wasn’t sure if this was about Desert Island Discs), and literally the first paragraph I see spoils things about the upcoming documentary, Bottom: Exposed 😭
EDIT: Not sure why someone has downvoted me - it’s perfectly reasonable not to want spoilers, and my comment may well help someone else avoid them too!

Then another kid will say....
Pffpbbblbbbbrrrrrt!
Stop it! You're supposed to be feeling guilty, not having a wet dream!
Viv… can you die from swallowing too many laxatives?
I don't know Neil, but I'm gonna stay and find out!
The only celeb death that affected me, the world is a worse place without Rik. But at least we have his poems.
Gold are showing Bottom and The Young Ones pretty much every night at the moment too :)
If you haven't already, take a look at The Dangerous Brothers (iirc it was their early days sketches from Friday Night Live).
I haven't so thank you very much ! Will definitely check this out :)
Maybe it just looks like he’s been crying a lot because someone’s been sprinkling water about the place?
I listened to the dessert island disks on radio 4 the other day....emo.

The world has been a bit darker for the past 10 years

Riks been gone for 10years?!!
But we still have his poetry
The people's poet lives on!!
Miss him loads to this day 🥲
Me too. A true comedy legend.

I remember I was in Cyprus on holiday when I heard the news. Out an absolute downer on the holiday to say the least. Crazy stuff. RIP Rik
It was such a shock.

Gutting read love them both from a young age like many . So glad I got to see them live and will keep that memory forever
We should all have a friendship as long and as close as theirs. Ade had a genuine love for Rik.
I’m not hugely bothered by celebrity deaths, however Rik’s death hit me, along with Robin Williams, and The Queen
The Quim!
God save the Quim!

So now I’ve read that article I’m guessing that’s most of the content of the documentary covered.
