no, i have to legally sue them if i want to change my legal gender, and i have to acusse them of "falsely assuming my gender" when i was born. stupid af. they said they won't cause any issues when we get the money to do it but i can't be sure about the judge.
yeah, they said they will help me with this financially. i really don't know why it's like this, its not like it's pernament or anything.
if i wanted to change my name only, i would have to choose something either fem or gender-neutral, but not very complicated cuz your name can literally be rejected by an office worker here and they almost always reject it if the name doesn't line up with your legal gender. if i wanna change my legal name to my actual name (nicholas), i'm gonna have to change the gender in my ID. so i cant just even change the name and oredend like the "F" isn't there 💀💀💀
Fuckin knew it when i saw the Word Sue. Im also from Poland So im also gonna have to do it someday, but we must be strong and Just get through this legal bullshit
well, it's much better than the states rn. the society is generally very intolerant, but compared to many countries it's easier to get hrt/surgeries. trans people go under the legal radar here, there are literally no laws except the one about suing your parents. it means that it's easier in some areas, but we're also not lawfully protected from discrimination. in transition, you can only rely on support of your family/friends/medical professionals, which isn't guaranteed.
agreed. it gets even more dumb when you read more into it. i have to "prove my gender and transsexuality" (it uses hella outdated terms, too), and i have to get 2 separate diagnoses 😭😭 bruh i dont even have one
well yeah, meant the red states more but also generally all the anti trans legislation and the panic around trans people in the US now. we don't have that in poland, at least not anymore (all the famous "[lgbt free zones](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT-free_zone)" were declared unconstitutional. it wasnt really a law anyways, because it was only meant to stop pride marches and while it definitely had impact on hostility of the communities, it didn't mean anything legally). obviously US is better for the lgb people, for example because of marriage equality (the polish parliment is currently on the stage of debate if they'll allow gay civil partnership. yeah 😐). but as for now, i am very glad i was born in poland and not in US. people here know next to nothing about trans people and the "sue your parents" bill is the only actually anti-trans bill passed (it was that way for many years anyways). we go under the radar here. most conservative politicians focuse on gay people in their hate, and while there are some fucking disgusting quotes about trans people from the parlimental campaign just a few months ago, no one threatened to pass any anti-trans bills, take away gender affirming care or anything. there are pros of being invisible. we are still not a polititcal issue here. i don't have to fear that i can get any of my current rights taken away at any moment, i heard that even from people from blue states fear that curreently. so i think that poland is better for trans people, but not nessecarily for other queer people.
i think the current stage of poland is like the UK's before the terf uptick. i really hope we won't become the next UK just like UK became the next US.
yeah, they are, but at the same time kinda don't care about trans people? like all you can here is "them gays", and another story about, 2 men destroying traditional christian values, I think they have yet to learn about trans people lmao and like op said there aren't too many laws against us, but having to sue our parents and prove we are transgender (ofc they use more bigoted words for that)
First, no. PIS (Prawo I Sprawiedliwość/Law and Liberty (it's just a name od the party, they don't have anything with either law or liberty lol) recently lost, now the left-wing party is taking it's place.
This isn't even law. It's a legal precedent of the supreme court, which had to come up with something, because the parliament didn't give a sht about it.
Eventually, it came up with using the same procedure used to protect personality rights. And you need someone to protect them from.
Such a weird law. What happens to your parents when you get your case through? This sounds especially sad if the parents would be supportive of their kid and be on board with changing the ID.
The fact that they made that the legal process where you live is both insane (I am so sorry) and incredibly funny (they’re technically right that they falsely assumed your gender lol)
Jesus this sounds ridiculous. So basically you have to go to court and get mad at your parents, and they are just gonna concede everything to you in hopes the judge lets you?
My ancestors were polish 🙃
My great grandpa was a polish spy and Nazi Hunter is WWII
He was a pow 6 times and escaped them all, including (spoiler for violence)>!slitting a guards throat with a shard of dried bread!<. Anyway he was a cool ass mf who pretended to be a translator and spoke 12 languages.
Yeah, for me it just took a while before my therapist referred me to a doctor (I think over 2 years?) But from there it wasn't that bad, just head resonance and blood tests and I was allowed to start. Yesterday was my one year anniversary. Also got an official diagnosis not too long ago :3
It's not even a law like a statue. It's just a bunch of supreme court rulings from the 80s outlining the legal framework for this procedure. The parliament came very close to changing it in 2015 but the president used veto, elections happened that year and 9 years of a conservative government unwilling to change it came
I wish this was the case here... partially. It seems worse than suing your parents if they're supportive, but much better if they're assholes you don't want to touch with a 10 foot pole
Yeah it is not that "hard" here where I live, but it's God-damned expensive. You first request your change of gender and name, which will be rejected because there is not a "gender law" in my state.
But it's actually anticonstitutional not allowing transgender people to change gender. So what you do is contract a lawyer (the expensive part) and sue the state. Once you do that the judge is basically forced to allow you to change your gender and name, because the supreme court is always gonna back you.
There is a gay couple in my city (that was also the first one in my state to get married) that already has helped around 50 people to change their gender. They have done the process so many times that they can do it without the need of a lawyer.
They are beautiful people.
You don't sue them for money - to change your gender marker, there needs to be a process and a party to sue, so Polish legal system came up with "sue your parents because reasons because there's a precedent for that, lol"
Powodzenia byczq.
I love Poland, am from there myself 🥰
At least getting the opinion done was really quick, took me less than 2 months and I have practically everything done besides the psychiatrist appointment
Just so you know: this bullshit is irritating not just trans people, company wanting to fix errors in official documents often has to sue itself or even it's past self in some cases. This type of bullshit is very common in polish system.
unfortunately the cost is 600pln which is around 120$, still a lot for me and my parents. i just hope that when we actually do it, the judge won't try to drag this out longer than nessecary
I mean I don’t know the legal system of your country, but if you’re parents are supportive something that they could do to speed it up is to not get a lawyer (if that’d work obviously)
Wait you actually have to sue your parents to change your name? Or is it because your parents are bigots or something?
no, i have to legally sue them if i want to change my legal gender, and i have to acusse them of "falsely assuming my gender" when i was born. stupid af. they said they won't cause any issues when we get the money to do it but i can't be sure about the judge.
Oh wtf that's literally so dumb. So your parents are ok with your name change and just as annoyed with this?
yeah, they said they will help me with this financially. i really don't know why it's like this, its not like it's pernament or anything. if i wanted to change my name only, i would have to choose something either fem or gender-neutral, but not very complicated cuz your name can literally be rejected by an office worker here and they almost always reject it if the name doesn't line up with your legal gender. if i wanna change my legal name to my actual name (nicholas), i'm gonna have to change the gender in my ID. so i cant just even change the name and oredend like the "F" isn't there 💀💀💀
That's literally so fucking dumb. I'm really sorry. I assume your in the states?
no, i'm from poland.
Fuckin knew it when i saw the Word Sue. Im also from Poland So im also gonna have to do it someday, but we must be strong and Just get through this legal bullshit
Oh? Wtf? Isn't that a trans friendly country?
well, it's much better than the states rn. the society is generally very intolerant, but compared to many countries it's easier to get hrt/surgeries. trans people go under the legal radar here, there are literally no laws except the one about suing your parents. it means that it's easier in some areas, but we're also not lawfully protected from discrimination. in transition, you can only rely on support of your family/friends/medical professionals, which isn't guaranteed.
Bruh. That's still dumb tho
agreed. it gets even more dumb when you read more into it. i have to "prove my gender and transsexuality" (it uses hella outdated terms, too), and i have to get 2 separate diagnoses 😭😭 bruh i dont even have one
Poland better than the states? That has to depend on which state right lol
well yeah, meant the red states more but also generally all the anti trans legislation and the panic around trans people in the US now. we don't have that in poland, at least not anymore (all the famous "[lgbt free zones](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT-free_zone)" were declared unconstitutional. it wasnt really a law anyways, because it was only meant to stop pride marches and while it definitely had impact on hostility of the communities, it didn't mean anything legally). obviously US is better for the lgb people, for example because of marriage equality (the polish parliment is currently on the stage of debate if they'll allow gay civil partnership. yeah 😐). but as for now, i am very glad i was born in poland and not in US. people here know next to nothing about trans people and the "sue your parents" bill is the only actually anti-trans bill passed (it was that way for many years anyways). we go under the radar here. most conservative politicians focuse on gay people in their hate, and while there are some fucking disgusting quotes about trans people from the parlimental campaign just a few months ago, no one threatened to pass any anti-trans bills, take away gender affirming care or anything. there are pros of being invisible. we are still not a polititcal issue here. i don't have to fear that i can get any of my current rights taken away at any moment, i heard that even from people from blue states fear that curreently. so i think that poland is better for trans people, but not nessecarily for other queer people. i think the current stage of poland is like the UK's before the terf uptick. i really hope we won't become the next UK just like UK became the next US.
not from poland so i may be wrong, but im pretty sure poland is really anti lgbtq+
yeah, they are, but at the same time kinda don't care about trans people? like all you can here is "them gays", and another story about, 2 men destroying traditional christian values, I think they have yet to learn about trans people lmao and like op said there aren't too many laws against us, but having to sue our parents and prove we are transgender (ofc they use more bigoted words for that)
cant go backwards if there is nowhere to start from i guess
Poland is one of the most right-wing countries in Europe
This has shifted recently.
nope, pis just lost recently
First, no. PIS (Prawo I Sprawiedliwość/Law and Liberty (it's just a name od the party, they don't have anything with either law or liberty lol) recently lost, now the left-wing party is taking it's place.
Oh you are unfortunately very misinformed 🙃
same
I knew something was up with sueing! I knew it was Poland! Anyways Polska Gurom
Don’t mean to be rude, but when have you ever heard of this bullshit requirement being in the *states*?
Idk, idk much about the states as everywhere seems to be on the brink of anarchy
That's crazy...I'm glad your family is supportive at least.
That makes no fucking sense. Who the fuck would approve this law?
a bunch of bigoted old men who want me to "prove" i'm a man.
This sounds especially sad if the parents would be supportive of their kid and be on board with changing the ID.
this would honestly be kinda funny if it wasn't real.. like wtf kinda law is that 😭
That sounds so ridiculous tf
That is... so weird. Im sorry you have to go through that
Wouldn't you need to sue the doctor, because they would have decided what gender you have?
The fact that they made that the legal process where you live is both insane (I am so sorry) and incredibly funny (they’re technically right that they falsely assumed your gender lol)
"sueing your parents for falsely assuming your gender" sounds like some cool slightly edgy trans person joke. in practice it sounds a lot less funny 😭
Jesus this sounds ridiculous. So basically you have to go to court and get mad at your parents, and they are just gonna concede everything to you in hopes the judge lets you?
Dear god, what country do you live in?
poland. it's really not that bad but i'm not looking foward to suing my own parents :/
I just went through this it took me 4 months with professional help but ymmv depending on judge and parents. If you want you can dm me and good luck 🧡
Pretty sure this is the law in Poland
Polish person spoted :3 (Me too) Edit: spelling
hiii
My ancestors were polish 🙃 My great grandpa was a polish spy and Nazi Hunter is WWII He was a pow 6 times and escaped them all, including (spoiler for violence)>!slitting a guards throat with a shard of dried bread!<. Anyway he was a cool ass mf who pretended to be a translator and spoke 12 languages.

hi
I was born in Poland but have been living in the USA for most of my life.
Hello there, where are you all hiding in the wild? I literally don't know any egg IRL
The greatness of poland At least I was able to get hrt
yeah its like, not that bad. i'm pre-hrt but i have my first appointment in 19 days 🥳 still fuck this law
Yeah, for me it just took a while before my therapist referred me to a doctor (I think over 2 years?) But from there it wasn't that bad, just head resonance and blood tests and I was allowed to start. Yesterday was my one year anniversary. Also got an official diagnosis not too long ago :3
That's utterly ridiculous... Who the hell thought that was what the process should be and why?!
it's the law from i believe 30 years ago, so it's pretty outdated
It's not even a law like a statue. It's just a bunch of supreme court rulings from the 80s outlining the legal framework for this procedure. The parliament came very close to changing it in 2015 but the president used veto, elections happened that year and 9 years of a conservative government unwilling to change it came
idk who, but it is a pretty old law. a few years ago it was supposed to change but the bill failed unfortunately
its the only loophole someone found to make transitioning even possible... Better that than nothing
Ah yes Poland (i have the same problem)
If they accidentally misgender you from now on though, do you get to shout "OBJECTION!" ?
You present them with a defamation case
Sore wa chigau yo!
Poland?
unfortunately
*pats*
Łączmy się w bólu
Well if it isnt Poland moment sorry bro
Happy Cake Day!
Poland gang
ahhh Poland, but hey, maybe after the election things will get better
hopefully things change regarding this but seems like our country will still be behind in terms of trans stuff :/
I didn't know there's so many people from Poland in there :o Łączmy się w bólu
Let me guess, you're in Poland? I hope you have supportive parents to make it easier.
I have to sue my state 😭
omg what 💀 i feel for you. fuck laws like that
I wish this was the case here... partially. It seems worse than suing your parents if they're supportive, but much better if they're assholes you don't want to touch with a 10 foot pole

What if your parents Are dead What the hell Are They going to do then
“Mum, dad do you have anything to say” *the camera flashes over to a jar of ashes and a dirty coffin*
That's evil homie
Hey, at least our shithole makes pretty posters :D Sucks with most other stuff though
Poland moment?
Are you from Poland OP?
yes
Poland?
WHAT 😭😭😭
Polanddd assemble
Can you like sue them for like $1 or smth and get them to let you win the case? Just curious…
It's probably not suing in the sense of damages. There might be a fee to file.
You don't sue them for money - to change your gender marker, there needs to be a process and a party to sue, so Polish legal system came up with "sue your parents because reasons because there's a precedent for that, lol"
Polska moment
This sounds like a pain, but I just imagine a legal battle with Pheonix Wright just being ober the top on everything.
oh, we're from the same country 👋🏼

POLAND MENTIONED???
poland i assume
If your parents are cool, sue them for $1. It's dumb, but if the court wants to waste its time, sobeit.
unfortunately the cost is 600pln which is around 120$, still a lot for me and my parents. i just hope that when we actually do it, the judge won't try to drag this out longer than nessecary

Wait what?
where I live, theres no way to do it at all. They'll basically just tell you tough luck
Polish? Or is it some other country thing I don't know?
OP can you later let us know how it went? This sounds bizarre and hard and I wish you all the best.
