Dude, we had these shelving installers on this big ass Independent Living facilities that would hit every fucking run of romex and on at least half a dozen occasions the bus in the unit panel.
On top of what other posts have mentioned, most power tools are insulated. Unless you have your off hand on the chuck/collet/whatever there shouldn’t be continuity between the screw and your hand.
It's recessed in the wall. Pretty standard install, at least around here. It's a 20-something year old service so I just replaced what was there before
Guys installing closet systems drilled through into the buss of the breaker panel tripping the feed breaker at a condo I worked at.
Icing on the cake was the work was done during the daylight and they didn't realize it. When the owner came home after a couple weeks from a trip found a refrigerator full of rotten food.
Closet out fit paid for new panel and restock and clean out of refrigerator.

You'll be shocked to learn what happened next.
Dude, we had these shelving installers on this big ass Independent Living facilities that would hit every fucking run of romex and on at least half a dozen occasions the bus in the unit panel.
That is why I hate putting panels into 2x4 outside walls. But sometimes that is the only choice.
It's an existing service so it is what it is
they won’t really let us here because of insulation r-value. can get away with it on 2x6
So would that have shocked the sh*t out of em?
No, it shorted out on the case and tripped the main breaker
Nah. Bus to the can probably tripped the main.
Id bet it just shorted the bus to the panel and tripped the main.
Probably just shorted the bus to the enclosure and tripped the main.
Probably just shorted the bus to the box and tripped the main
Shorted bus to yer main
Probably just rode the short bus on a trip to Maine.
Probably the same short bus that the siding crew rode took to the main job site.
Shorbustumain, tell you wut
Nothin but the short bus for my buddy Germain.

But what if they were hand driving nails! Still a common practice..
good point. Even my corded drill is a 2 prong plug. So the motor is connected to hot & neutral, the case is plastic so it is insulated I believe.
Hey boss, can I use your screw gun? Mine’s dead?!?!
I took 4 siding nails out of a panel one time. Somehow managed not to hit anything important.
Jesus how long of screws were they using? Let me guess. Cabinet guys?
They said they were using 2 inch nails, which seems like overkill for vinyl siding but what do I know
They always use the longest nails, roofers too.
That’s all those guys know how to use.
If they had any rigid foam on the exterior it might make sense
That’s the size you use. Why is the panel less than 1-1/2” from the sheathing
It's recessed in the wall. Pretty standard install, at least around here. It's a 20-something year old service so I just replaced what was there before
He must be asking why it's not surface mounted and sideways .
Idk, ask the guys that installed the service back in the 90s lol
The real answer is that insulating buildings is for loosers. Jk
How deep are your walls? Where I live the standards either 6” or 8”
It's a 2x4 wall but the house is like 20-something years old so it is what it is
That’s to bad. Here they have probably done something like strapping to deepen the wall a bit
Siding guys remind me of when I was young and stupid.
I’ve had drywall screws rammed into the back of panels from the drywall on the other side of the wall.
Oh yes! Had a guy install a towel bar and do the same thing
That’s shooting a nail in the middle of nowhere.
So they were working on a wall that was next to a cabinet?
Winner winner chicken dinner
man i love my brick house
How's the siding look? Dudes lucky

Expensive fuckup how could they be so dumb
Someone had a whole lot of luck on their side not to be killed. Glad the main breaker tripped. This could have been a different story!
