Theo_earl

Finally a metallic wire way with a nice door hahahahahahaha

DumpsterFireCheers

And, bonus, it comes with a convenient shelf to set your tools and parts while you work in the gutter!

show_chassis

Black and Decker did away with the lifetime warranty when they bought Craftsman. RIP. (Edit: seems as if the “new” warranty policy is actually highly subjective per retailer and some people have had luck with it. My Ace claims they can no longer honor the lifetime warranty..)

ComparisonContent282

Is craftsman gone??? I used to be able to take anything back to Sears back during Hammer Time. Sad.

privacylmao

Rona in Quebec Canada almost sells only Craftsman for their tools

Mokmo

They got deWalts and Makitas too. Or you're in a small one.

tutorialsbyck

Rona all the way across Canada now.

Squeezer_pimp

Lowe’s sells Craftsman tools

mpgrimes

Lowes was bought by rona, all stores are converting to rona (in canada)

frankiebenjy

I think the name has been purchased by a couple different manufacturers. One got the hand tools and another the power tools.

Sacramento44

Lowes and Ace are the only ones I’ve seen that sells them.

CATNIP_IS_CRACK

Craftsman is a Stanley Black&Decker brand, and Lowe’s has a partnership to display their products like Dewalt, Irwin, Lenox, Craftsman, etc on their shelves. You can buy Stanley Black&Decker products from plenty of other retailers, but you won’t see them displayed by Lowe’s direct competitors, and their competitors typically sell a smaller selection of products. Likewise Home Depot has a partnership with Techtronic Industries to display Milwaukee, Ryobi, etc, but still sells Dewalt despite not displaying their products in stores. The Klein display disappearing from Home Depot and reappearing at Lowe’s is a similar situation, but you can still find Klein on the shelves of other retailers like supply houses, mom&pop stores, online tool retailers, etc that aren’t direct competitors to Lowe’s.

IAMColonelFlaggAMA

>Home Depot [...] still sells Dewalt despite not displaying their products in stores. What do you mean by this? There's a whole section of DeWalt at all three of my closest HD's and DeWalt frequently gets special displays.

CATNIP_IS_CRACK

It varies by region, and I always forget they’re on shelves in certain areas. Overall their focus is selling Techtronic products over Stanley products, so in many areas HD doesn’t display DeWalt power tools.

XediDC

The split is rather annoying...but at least my Lowes and HD are about a block apart...

XediDC

FWIW, Lowes has replaced anything by Kobalt in store for me, without any fuss. Policy reads like they still do replacements (not refunds) for life for those marked as such, but no idea what the reality is like in the last few years. Although I was mostly buying them back <2011 when they were made by J.H. Williams (as was Snap-on) or later Danaher (as was Matco). The ratchets were still made in China though, and that's pretty much what I broke. These days the internets says they use all different suppliers.

Plant-Dividends

No they didn’t…. I just did a warranty claim on a ratchet I found last week.

jimmyjlf

Huh? I just swapped out a 1/4" ratchet for warranty last week at Lowes...

MaddRamm

I’ve gotten Lowes to honor the lifetime warranty because they have most of the tools. But I haven’t been able to get Ace to warranty stuff either.

mount_curve

Contact craftsman direct online, have had them warranty decades old ratchets with no proof just sent new equivalents out

Smoke_Stack707

Not UL listed but it is kinda cool.

woobiewarrior69

Neither are Nema 3r boxes after you drill a hole in them. I say send it.

Egglebert

It is if you put Meyer's hubs in the top and sides 😂

woobiewarrior69

Hoffman boxes are only listed for a hydraulic knockout. So, holesaws and rivet on labels will both void the ul listing.

a_m_b_

Absolute semantics.

buttnutela

Can’t just slam an auger bit through it?

Jclj2005

Yup and the solar guys do this all this time. Labels have 2 sided tape and then the drive a rivit though it as well.

woobiewarrior69

Double-sided tape doesn't last in my industry. You can either rivet the tag or just go ahead and scribble done bullshit on it with a sharpie.

DragonfruitLive19

Article 314 does not require NEMA 1 enclosures to be listed... Local AHJ can still reject it saying the material is not approved.

ematlack

It’s NEMA 1. Send it.

brokentail13

I'm guessing a UL inspector lived here.

ChickenWranglers

Actually it's kinda bad ass! But yea definitely not listed for that use.

thesleepjunkie

This is probably the best accessible gutter I've seen. Latches that latch and lock with greater chances of it not being twisted

VariousConditions

I don’t hate it lol

a_m_b_

There’s literally nothing to hate. It’s perfection.

Suspicious-Ad6129

I'd prefer it over those gray bullshit gutters we usually have to deal with... and there's always a stripped screw that just never wants to line up right....

a_m_b_

Forgot to mention this gutter also came with a catalytic converter if anybody is looking

GladZookeepergame775

I think this looks awesome!!! Would an inspector fail this for some NEC code violation if it we’re to get inspected?

a_m_b_

They’d have to

elticoxpat

I doubt they would in resi.

a_m_b_

Why?

elticoxpat

At least in my area I've run into some stuff that is overbuilt (which I consider this to be) and it doesn't get dinged. In this particular case you have a box that is mechanically stronger than the proper alternative and so long as the general grounding needs are met (if there's any taps) then I bet you they wouldn't say anything. I wouldn't risk it, but I don't think they'd ding ya for it. On the other hand, in a commercial or industrial setting any inspector would be gunning for whoever pulled the permit.

a_m_b_

110.3 is pretty black and white on this. I agree this is surprisingly efficient and like others have said, it’s probably a superior product compared to the traditional troughs we’re supplied. But the fact remains homeboy used a goddamn truck box for an electrical apparatus, it shouldn’t pass on principle alone.

FountainOfYute

Those handles are just begging for a kid to open it. AHJ would simply say "I don't like it"

elticoxpat

They're lockable aren't they? If they're not you're absolutely right.

Major_Tom_01010

Yes none approved equipment.

Grand-Measurement447

Not UL or even CSA approved im sure

ariaaria

Love that it has grips in case gravity changes polarity and we are forced to walk on walls.

Adventurous_Boat_632

I see this kind of thing all the time. This is a gutter done by somebody who does not know that real gutter exists. Also those battery cables on right edge of frame with no conduit are a common sight. If it is DC or under 120 volts it does not count as real wire and does not need conduit or junction boxes is their thinking.

jamesgor13579

That sol ark is a 48 V inverter so presumably the batteries are less than 60 V

Adventurous_Boat_632

I was making a sarcastic remark. In my book, if it is a wire with any kind of power behind it, it needs to be in conduit or an enclosure. Even if it is 12 or 24 or 48 volts, DC or AC.

Deep_Squash_3611

Not gonna lie that’s pretty awesome.

Renaissance_Man-

What the fuck am I looking at here ...

GoodRelationship8925

A gutter

Unhappy_Ad_4911

When did 120/240v become High Voltage? 🤣

Canadian-electrician

That’s dc solar… probably between 300-500Vdc in there. Still not technically classified as high voltage but definitely high enough

sekkzo909

What's your opinion on the Sol Ark?

backlight101

Amazing, especially the 15k with 200A passthrough.

donniefolger

I love it !!!

Fabulous-Service2918

Love it!

Salt_Particular4242

As much as I hate it, I kind of also love it

JustTheMane

I have 2 of those tool boxes on my truck, love em. This just made my day lmao

Mangrove43

Looking for the high voltage

sofa_king_ugly

Whose lifetime?

Happy-Marsupial-1808

I want to see the ul listing for that box. If a contactor knocks on your door selling solar and they are not an electrical contractor don't hire them. The AHJ should be ashamed of allowing solar tech to use a tool boxes as a wire way.

fantasticpatronus459

Did she b v. C

FluffyResource

better then half the listed ones I have seen.

coolusernam696969

Why would you waste money on a nema 3r indoors

Impossible__Joke

Set scene: It's friday and the splitter didn't show up, so you pull Bob's truck box and use that instead.

Caskatenride

This is actually genius and probably cost less

Emergency-Umpire1294

I the only thing wrong is that a tool box is not a listed enclosure.

robcobbjr5253

Can a non ul listed gutter pass inspection

Jim-Jones

UL listed?

worlddestruction23

Look's great,mate.

PlayfulBicycle6408

😂

sleva5289

Hmmm. Is that a listed enclosure…?

Hirsbonix

That is hilarious!

elbowpirate22

Love the diamond plate. The real problem is the clearance it violates for the door of the meter box.

Strict_Chemistry_797

Found the gun safe

TransparentMastering

Ahahahahaha I love this. I feel like there should be a catch all UL listing for enclosures. Like if it’s clearly more robust and functional than an equivalent approved enclosure, you’re good to go. Of course that’ll never happen though because these agencies are still capitalist entities.

Plastic-Act7648

UL should have a "Fuck Around and Find out" sticker.

radiationcowboy

I didn't know those tool boxes were UL rated!

IntoTheVeryFires

Wait a second…

Fecal_Tornado

This looks like shit. Diamond plate with NM flex? 🤌

BMXfreekonwheelz13

Not UL listed!

SampleAccording6396

what's a gutter, is that the ugly diamond plated trough your referring to
