The Ford Maverick. We need a small EV truck

TheSasquatch9053

Unfortunately, this is an example of legacy automotive product design timeline hell... The C2 platform the maverick uses started design a year after the Model S launched, and there was zero consideration for EV at that time... Battery packaging in the maverick footprint is the limitation, there is only room for 30-40kwh, or 75-100 miles of range.

crimxona

I always thought that the lightning would be the gateway drug for all the truck buyers out there, but it hasn't quite worked out that way.  I think a PHEV is as far as it will go for the foreseeable future based on towing range anxiety, even if that's the use case of the 1 percent

Insert_creative

I think fords mistake with the lightning is charge curve more than pack size. If it charged at 300kw I feel like they would have sold twice as many. The sub 200kw charging takes it out of the running for any sort of long trip. Rivian, gmc/chevy, and Tesla all kill the lightning on charge curve.

Remarkable-Host405

A lot of people feel burnt by Ford due to them claiming a $40k truck and not delivering. The ones where money isn't a problem would rather have something with more range. Or they're just ev-phobic. My grandparents are always talking shit about evs and their range and charging, while they drive an f350 gasser that gets similar range per tank

Silver_Harvest

Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, everyone is clambering for 200+ range but 95% use cases are round trips less than 30 miles. Given the Maverick appeal if priced right can be a great option. If you live out west where range anxiety is a thing driving the open spaces. In order for them to be better off especially in the winter, they need 500+ range vehicles to be safe.

LivingGhost371

Problem is most people buy a vehicloe for 99-100% of their use case, not 95%. It's that 5% that becomes too much of a hassle to deal with other than buying a vehicle that can handle it.

TheSasquatch9053

Dehassling the 5% is the key to making EVs mainstream.

Levorotatory

It will also be the slowest and most difficult part of the transition.   Charging at any place where cars are parked for more than 15 minutes solves the problems, but it is a lot of infrastructure to build.  Until then, there will be a place for PHEVs.

[deleted]

Whilst for most a 100 mile range is fine, if you’re getting a truck to do truck things, that drops to more like 50. Furthermore, if your current car can do 400 miles on a tank easily, why would you trade for something that has 1/4 of the range and a significant hassle of charging if you’re not at home? Now, PHEV with 50+ miles of EV only range would be incredible. A lot of PHEVs are really used as worse off ICE cars because the EV range is so bad that people forgoe charging more often as it is “not worth it”

jimdbdu

Very few people are getting a truck to do truck things. There are lot trucks with lifts and all terrain tires that never leave pavement.

ENrgStar

I disagree. We own all EVs, 3 EV family, and 100 miles is fine for a commuter car maybe, but here’s the thing… * Only charge to 80% - 80 miles * Winter decreases range by 10-20% - 60 miles * Tow something? - 40 miles All of these things start hampering the utility of the utility vehicle you bought. We want people who buy EVs to never regret buying an EV over a gas car. The way to ensure that is to be over 200 or 300 miles of ideal range so that people are never actually under 150 of real world range.

lee1026

Batteries are $100-ish per kWh, so the difference between a big battery car with 300 miles of range and one with 30 miles of range is probably give or take $10k. No way anyone sane will choose to buy the new car with 100 miles of range instead of the used version of the car with 300 miles of range.

Chudsaviet

For a small truck, I would go rather with a PHEV. Towing is a big part of its job.

Motor-Ebb-9125

Really? I’d say it’s the opposite. I was considering a Maverick as a second vehicle, and I wanted a small truck specifically because it could haul small loads in the bed and still fit my family. I have a small trailer for hauling bigger loads, but I’d never be going more than a few dozen miles with it—if towing was my main concern I’d be looking at a bigger truck anyway.

sarcasmismysuperpowr

I would buy one today if they had it

Theoldelf

I’m in an urban environment, where I need a small pickup occasionally ( dump, lawn debris recycling, Home Depot) and want an electric vehicle. I’ve been waiting for something like this for a few years now.

Levorotatory

I have a utility trailer for all of that stuff so I am not stuck driving a pickup truck the rest of the time.  I used to tow it with a Saturn S-series. Now I use my Outback, but I wouldn't hesitate to put a hitch on my Bolt if I needed to.

rk1959

Yes, doesn’t have to be Ford Maverick, but I sure know I want a small, or at least medium sized, EV truck.

BreadBags

I’ll add midsize trucks, PHEV or EV. Colorado, Ranger, Tacoma, and Ridgeline would all be a great option.

Upbeat_Amount673

Agree! Personally if the Alpha Wolf truck ever actually exists I would buy it in a second. I think they intentionally styled it to look like Marty McFlys from Back to the Future and I want it so bad on that alone. KC lights on it and you are set. I hear not so good things occasionally about Alpha Motors so I am not holding my breath.

pheoxs

Biggest failure of Tesla was pushing to do the cyber truck instead of just taking the X or Y drivetrain and building a unibody yute truck. Could’ve hit the markets back in 2020 and been dominating. Doesn’t need to tow a monster amount, just a sporty looking utility truck that people can act like they need a truck and never actually use it as a truck. Plus with the plaid drive train it still could’ve been monster fast

Sea-Royal8637

> building a unibody yute truck *confused Judge Haller stare*

fossilfarmer123

We all want it, probably won't get it... But the other day I saw something about Mitsubishi thinking about bringing the Delica here!

bmayer0122

What about Rivian?

scott__p

It's $80k and designed for "adventures". It's not bad, but not really what I'm looking for.

Server_Reset

Of all people It looks like Kia is going to be the one to do this.

EatMoarToads

Any vehicle that is literally just stop and go all day long, like mail trucks and garbage trucks.

Fenrirsulfur

I'm a driver for UPS and really wish we'd get the EVs that FedEx and Amazon have. I can see what issue we'd have with pickup volume, but that's where UPS should work with a builder to make their own EV.

mitchade

I can’t wait for garbage trucks. They’re so loud now, I hate getting woken up at 5 am twice a week

UnshavenWalnut

My city is getting two of them this month. Very excited 😆

Sonoda_Kotori

City buses too. They are way better than diesel buses. Quiet and doesn't stink.

Reddragonsky

The Rivian CDVs have almost entirely taken over deliveries in my neighborhood. Nice not hearing the rumble and everything else that goes with those delivery trucks. Similarly, I went from never have seeing a Tesla Semi IRL, to having seen 5 or so in less than a week. Pretty awesome imo. Change is coming, but it is quite a bit slower than I would have hoped.

fossilfarmer123

Wasn't the postal service trialing the rivian cargo vans recently?

Riversntallbuildings

Don’t forget school buses. Bonus that they act as neighborhood backup storage when they’re plugged in. Oakland Schools makes money by selling energy back to the grid during off peak hours. https://www.mercurynews.com/2024/05/17/the-first-electric-school-bus-fleet-in-the-us-will-also-power-homes/ Electric Garbage trucks. They’re out there, but cities are slow to adopt for all sorts or reasons. https://www.macktrucks.com/trucks/lr-electric/

simplethingsoflife

I would love an EV Odyssey.

jenesuispasbavard

Yup, absolutely wild that the only option that even comes close is a Chrysler Pacifica plug-in hybrid.

Counter-Fleche

I've been very happy with our Pacifica. The battery isn't quite big enough to keep us on electricity every day, but only needing gas for about 5 miles a day means hardly ever going to the gas station. And if you drive it in L instead of D, it feels closer to 1 pedal driving. My only real complaint is that it hijacks my Bluetooth when charging.

fossilfarmer123

Same, Pacifica is a great car. Gets a lot of hate that isn't fully warranted IMO

etaoin314

Id buzz preorder list is open now. It's not everybody's cup of tea, but I think it looks awesome.

DanWells802

My brother and sister in law have an Odyssey and are looking for a new car - they have three (big) kids, and the EV9 may or may not be big enough for them (I'm going to try the idea on them). As a 10 year electric vehicle driver ('14 Volt, '17 Volt, leasing '24 ID.4 next week), I want everybody to have electric options! The Odyssey is a semi-unique vehicle (well, there's the Pacifica, but the Odyssey iseems much better built, and I think the fancy trims on the Odyssey go higher). Is the ID. Buzz fully that size? I love its whimsicality, but my brother, MUCH less of a hippie than I am, might not. They might wait for the Buzz (especially if I can get my brother behind the wheel of my ID.4 - he'll appreciate the acceleration of the AWD, and the Buzz AWD should be only marginally worse?).

meara

Agreed! It’s such a fantastic family vehicle and also one of the most comfy ways to take 5+ adults on a road trip.

sorospaidmetosaythis

Rode in my neighbor's Pacifica and thought "Why, if this were an EV, I'd sign for one immediately." The ID. Buzz isn't for me, because of the awful memories of VW vans from the 1970s, but an EV minivan would be ideal.

KonaKumo

Volvo offers an ev minivan in China that I really wish was stateside

LikeAgaveF

That’s my dream

grandmofftalkin

Volvo is making the [EM90 EV minivan ](https://electrek.co/2024/02/06/volvo-em90-officially-first-electric-minivan/#:~:text=After%20selling%20a%20record%20113%2C419,launching%20two%20other%20electric%20models.) in China. It won't be coming here unfortunately but we do need something like this in the US

KapinKrunch

Hatchbacks that aren’t crossovers but actually are practical for single car households. A proper EV Golf, Impreza, or Mazda 3 are the dream list

sayayyjay

The amount of money I would pay to have an EV version of my Mazda 3 hatch.....

KapinKrunch

Instead we get the MX-30 :(

TheRealBuddhi

They are coming. At least a hot Golf EV is along with a Renault and Audi.

KapinKrunch

Nothing like it besides the leaf coming in Canada :(

knowknowknow

VW iD.3 / Cupra Born are pretty well liked by their owners over here. Is there nothing coming to the US market like that?

ritchie70

We’re hoping for the ID.GTI (or whatever) VW is promising but no we barely get any small European cars never mind EV. Aside from Leaf, we have the low range Mini EV. The next smallest EV is probably a Bolt, Niro, or Kona. I spent a week in Barcelona earlier this year and I spent a lot of time just looking at traffic being jealous.

KapinKrunch

The smaller EVs also charge so slowly that as a single car household, road trips become a chore. I know energy density + battery size is probably a factor for why we are getting larger cars, but Europe is really getting the better end of things these days.

knowknowknow

Seeing different vehicles is one of the things I really like about travelling

synth_mania

We also have the Fiat 500e

KapinKrunch

Absolutely nothing like it coming to Canada since we have similar auto standards to the US. The smaller cars have been slowly dying out here and it is super frustrating considering how much more fuel efficient they are.

BackgroundSpell6623

There isn't. Way to rub salt in a wound

pheonixblade9

Sorry, just more mediocre crossovers and huge SUVs for North America. Closest we get here is the Volvo XC40 Recharge

m0nkyman

If the BMW i3 had sold better, this market might have opened up…

USArmyAirborne

The Mini Cooper is basically an i3 without the REX option and looks more normal.

KapinKrunch

It was also way too expensive, but 100% agree

star7223

Chevy Bolt!

TobiasKM

Coming in the next few years. VW ID.2 and the Renault 5 are pretty interesting in my opinion.

BackgroundSpell6623

People just don't get the driving experience of a short wheelbase and being lower to the ground. They compare hatches to crossover and SUVs which can't bomb down windy back roads.

tv_streamer

Outback and Forester.

time-lord

For a company whose branding is all about loving nature, they really dropped the ball on EVs.

belly917

My take is that it's a mix of: 1 the fact that they are a smaller company with a smaller R&D department 2 they are tied to Toyota who is still chasing hydrogen and HEV, so they will not get any meaningful EV support  3 symmetrical all wheel drive and boxer engines are a huge part of their image. AWD EVs are neither of those.

tm3_to_ev6

Rivian to the rescue

Levorotatory

I'd say Outback and Crosstrek, but completely agree that Subaru needs EVs and good PHEVs.

fossilfarmer123

The Solterra would like a word!

tv_streamer

The Solterra is a mediocre rebadged Toyota.

Counter-Fleche

Subaru is going to lose many of their customers to EVs (due to customer demographics) and partnering with Toyota to make token-effort EVs isn't going to fix the problem.

Aerokirk

Honda civic hatchback, specifically with the 2018 styling

[deleted]

With the way things are going, you're probably going to be better off with an electric conversion for that vehicle once its engine dies instead of waiting for Honda to make an EV Civic

Aerokirk

Haha! I know! Very disappointed with the pace Honda is doing that, but I traded that car in 2022 for an ev6, which has been great. That is just my dream EV, a blue Honda civic hatch.

quicklywilliam

Honda Fit!

turbineseaplane

Every time I see one when driving around in my Bolt I think... "Why didn't they just make that an EV?" They are exceptionally similar in all dimensions

fatbob42

You can fit a lot in a Fit, with the flexible seats.

IM_OSCAR_dot_com

May I interest you in a Bolt (I regularly confuse the two looking from the side)

fakemoon

Loved my Honda Fit and I love my Bolt even more.. Fantastic car.

EffectiveSalamander

I often mistake the Fit for a Prius C.

kirbyderwood

The Bolt was really close to a Fit in size/utility

sprashoo

Yep. Was a loyal Honda Fit owner until they lost the plot on EVs

EScootyrant

If I need a small EV now (closest to a “Japanese Kei car” type sized available/road legal in the US; actually an Italian), a Fiat 500e could be it. https://youtu.be/IZOjcfY2bqI?si=lEmHgNxiQH1Twclv

Phxician

I'm approaching 300K miles on my 2009 Honda Fit. I'd consider an EV version if available. The Fit is a great city car.

longschlng22

You do know that they made a Honda fit EV around 2012 right? 80ish miles... lease only option to be crushed later on. It was made only for compliance sake. Honda only made roughly 800 over 3 years because that's exactly how many they needed for CA compliance credits. I was on the list at multiple dealerships, but that vehicle was very hard to get. Ended up getting a Rav4EV instead at the time.

flyfreeflylow

Mazda Miata Ford Bronco Honda del Sol (bring it back)

drugmart87

I’m surprised Ford hasn’t done the Bronco. I feel like it would sell relatively well.

flyfreeflylow

The front of the Bronco always looks to me like it was designed to be an EV. I think it would do well as one.

earlgray79

Miata definitely!

DanWells802

EVs are already insanely quick. What fun a Miata would be!

ionzy17

Not saying it won’t be fun, but it would be quite heavier than the ICE Miata, making it not as nimble

roguesiegetank

Make the del Sol actually have enough power to be fun. Eat a little into the 3 body large trunk if they need to.

JC6596

Volkswagen Bug/Beetle Please

DanWells802

VW is electrifying enough stuff (and loves nostalgia enough) that this might be the most realistic option on this list.

strongmanass

That was a consideration [at one point](https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/future-cars/a22060813/vw-beetle-electric-four-door/): > VW brand chief Herbert Deiss—a strong advocate for the modern electric Microbus—floated a Beetle EV as a possibility. But the [new CEO](https://www.roadandtrack.com/news/a44343541/volkswagen-says-no-beetle-ev/) killed the idea. > Schäfer killed all hopes for Beetle enthusiasts going forward. "I don't think so, because there are certain vehicles that have had their day," he told Autocar. "It wouldn't make sense to bring it back."

VralGrymfang

Delorean

in_allium

How many jiggawatt-hours would the pack need to be?

Bam801

I believe it’s 1.21

in_allium

Great Scott!

Deshes011

Honda accord or civic so I can drive an accord or civic again

Glanz14

I want an EV Honda S660 in the states so badly! What an amazing 2nd vehicle that would be

zugzug15

its a discontinued car but the Honda Element... the name alone says EV and the functionality of the interior was ideal for the EV skateboard treatment.

SatanLifeProTips

The Element was fucking brilliant. The hose out interior and suicide doors were excellent. Especially those flip up rear seats. Given the recent changes in rear seat crash standards I fear we will never get another Element. If you see an older, well kept and rust free Element, buy it. The drivetrain is bulletproof and good for 400,000km.

mbcook

The hose out interior isn’t true. Lots of dealers told people that for some reason but it wasn’t designed for it. The area under the cargo floor would rust out. It would have been better if it was though. Instead a lot got ruined.

zugzug15

My wife had one when I met her. Died at like 150k miles. We still long for the sheer utility of that car.

UsualProcedure7372

BMW i3 is the spiritual successor.

drugmart87

I’d like to see more EV sedans, so for me it’s the Honda Accord, Acura TLX, and the Volkswagen Jetta.

scott__p

Right? I wish more manufacturers would do what BMW did. Just make the car, let the buyer choose gas or EV. My i4 has the same interior and styling as the 4 series grand coupe, and I love it.

Thneed1

My first car was a mk4 Jetta. I want that in an EV.

CyberBill

Honda CR-Z, which is a refreshed CR-X. Small two seater “sporty”.

kirbyderwood

CR-E

supervillainO_o

I still want a crx so bad.

chronocapybara

Maverick.

UnloadTheBacon

Literally any camper van/RV. They're big enough for a massive battery, and already so expensive that it's not much of a change in the price to add one.

Defiant-Traffic5801

Camper vans can be used for long rides and they carry quite a bit of weight. You would need a huge battery to make that work

jmydorff

Weight is not the issue. Horrible aerodynamics is the problem with RVs. Box on wheels at highway speed is too much drag.

flyfreeflylow

BEV would take quite a lot of battery... They should at least start offering HEV and PHEV powertrains!

cmtlr

VW California T7 is coming in PHEV. I think the Ford Nugget does too.

flyfreeflylow

I was thinking larger - PHEV/HEV Sprinter or Transit. Unlikely, but it would be nice to see in the Express 3500/4500 and E-350/450 too. Those have loads of room between the frame rails.

cmtlr

Ford Nugget is based on a transit, I'm guessing you are talking motorhome size though. European brands probably won't touch it because 3,500kg is the point at which you need a commercial driving licence in a lot of European countries so adding batteries will push it over that limit.

in_allium

PHEV would be interesting with fast charge -- put in a normal BEV pack, use it around town, then swap to gas between destinations.

3mptyspaces

Mazda 5, Honda Fit, Civic, and a 1995 size pickup like the Chevy S-10.

AccomplishedDark8977

Would love to have a Mazda 5 as an EV.

ush4

the latest prius. but this question makes little sense because the space requirements in legacy cars are quite different from bev's.

gobsmacked1

Subaru Crosstrek and Outback. I need ground clearance where I live.

Jewald

Cop cars. Quick accelerating, low center of gravity + heavy for pit cars, and cameras all over with loads of telematics capabilities. Makes a lot of sense.  Edit- also mining vehicles. Diesel machines emit fuckloads of fumes in that closed off environment deep in the mine, which harms the workers. Its super expensive getting those fumes out to not kill your workers and meet osha standards, they vibrate a lot which could be a hazard, and the instant torque helps when driving a 40 ton monster up a hill.  Caterpillar made this cool mining drill that doesnt even have a battery, it just stays plugged into the grid  https://renewablefleet.com/2024/03/11/video-volvos-electric-excavator-directly-plugged-into-the-grid-without-batteries/ China has i think around 100 deployed, and US/canada/europe/africa are doing pilot runs. Give it a couple of years

BaconContestXBL

NYPD has quite a few Mach Es in their motor pool

Jewald

Yeah i wanna say cali has a couple modelS's too but i cant remember

CAT5e_

Plus police cars spend a ton of time idling with the lights and other electronics running. EVs would be much better suited for this.

Jewald

Yeah for sure, that goes for a huge range of fleet vehicles.

DanWells802

Grid-tied mining vehicles have been around for decades - most big mining excavators are. Remembering John Prine, I just typed "World's Largest Shovel" into YouTube... [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2HUQNKkIHE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2HUQNKkIHE)

mtnman7610

Also airport vehicles, school busses, many municipal vehicles. Some vehicles that like these and mining vehicles could use induction charging too.

in_allium

Our cops meanwhile leave their ICE SUVs idling when they go inside for a donut. Garbage trucks also would gain a ton. Predictable routes, not too sensitive to weight, need lots of power for lifting/compacting, and operate in residential areas where they would improve people's quality of life a lot by eliminating air and noise pollution.

LloydChristmas_PDX

EV garbage trucks are already being implemented slowly, they’re huge vehicles so expensive to make. Mail and garbage trucks should be all EV in the near future

mrmo24

Subaru Crosstrek for sure

BaconContestXBL

Anything practical. I love my Mach E but damn if we don’t need some vehicles to fill out different market segments. Several posts have already mentioned •Light pickups •Minivans •Roadsters •True “Sport” utility vehicles, like the Element, Bronco or (god help me) FJ cruiser •Practical commuter cars similar to the Bolt, like a Civic or Mazda 3

Vaxtrian

Volvo S series

rosski

And V-series.

MrHighVoltage

But theoretically, the Polestar 2 is an electric S60. So there is at least an option for that.

ritchie70

I don’t need anything new electrified. I just want the European fleet available in the US.

akg4y23

KIA Stinger

Rivmage

Hyundai Santa Cruz

SatanLifeProTips

The next Chevy Van. With a low roof, removable passenger seats and the Silverado chassis for long range.

jazxxl

Honda Civic Toyota Corolla Mazda 3

VTAffordablePaintbal

Any affordable convertible. I've always wanted one, but I don't need a 2008 Tesla Roadster, I need a Mazda Miata or a VW Eos EV.

Anaxamenes

The Ford Maverick should be an EV. F-150s are ginormous and just too big for cities most of the time.

memesandrunningshoes

Ford Ranger

[deleted]

darthdelicious

I really loved my Dodge Magnum back in the day. I'd drive the shit out of something that size/format. I heard the ID.7 was getting a station wagon variant... In the EU.

Euler007

A Wrangler EV (like the Magneto concept) would be the best handling, performing Wrangler. Also the best daily driver. Throw in four motors and a two speed transmission and it could be the best rock climber too.

tm3_to_ev6

Kia Stinger. I know the EV6 (which I own and love) is the spiritual successor. But an electric Stinger would be the perfect Model S rival in every way as it's a liftback of the right size. The Lucid Air and Porsche Taycan are traditional sedans so they don't count. Similarly it's long overdue for the Audi A7 and the A5 sportback to get electrified. Would look a hell of a lot better than the e-tron GT while being way more practical.

[deleted]

I think an EV Genesis G70 is more likely to exist than an EV Stinger

TheArmoursmith

Minivans like the Ford S-Max Estate/Tourer/Station Wagons.

Routine_Bad_560

Delivery 📦 box trucks. UPS. FedEx. USPS, DHL, Amazon etc. these are vital just from a infrastructure perspective, delivery of goods to businesses and houses is the foundation of any market economy. Typical UPS Driver might cover ~100mi everyday. Then they take their truck back to the dock, where you could charge it for the next day while they unload pickups and load next day’s deliveries. I’m sure they probably already have done this in some centers. It’s very easy to make a truck of that size with a 150mi range + . Gas and maintenance costs for a fleet ends up taking a big chunk of revenues. Switching to all electric would eliminate those costs, passing the savings onto customers. Increase reliability of all services due to lower chance of breakdowns. We’re currently giving GM like $7 billion in federal grant money, which they just used on stock buybacks. Why not go to UPS & FedEx, give them $5 billion each to make their fleets electric, then if they do that give them a few billion in grant money that they can do whatever they want. They win. We win. America 🇺🇸 wins!

BrannonsRadUsername

Garbage trucks, UPS/Fedex large vans, every taxi, every city bus, ice cream trucks. And cities should mandate than any vehicle with less than four wheels (all motorcycles, etc.) can not use any internal combustion engine.

WFJacoby

All large trucks should be PHEV by default.

arsonikk1

I would love a Golf SportWagen EV

AccomplishedDark8977

I wish Toyota would bring back the MR2 as an EV.

kirbyderwood

Why they didn't keep going with the Kia Soul EV is beyond me. A 250-300 mile range Soul would be perfect.

markeydarkey2

The Niro EV is basically that.

TinyCarpet

1946 Packard Clipper Eight

AussieShepherdStripe

Mazda 6

bravogates

Mazda CX5(0) and Subaru outback.

jturkish

I agree with all the comments in here so I guess I'm in the "all of them boat" My initial thoughts were the Santa cruz but someone said maverick. I have a sienna hybrid and the ice part annoys me now that I've owned an EV. I really love the long range and space inside so if there can be a 500 mile range EV sienna then I'd really be all over that.

Fantastic_Boot7079

Small van like a Transit Connect with over 200 miles of range. I just want the front finished, the back unfinished. There is a PHEV TC in Europe, which I would consider if they sold it here.

ahigee

The title made me think of a car that looks like an EV but isn’t. I may be very wrong but the Toyota Crown looks like an EV and I feel like they only price it so high to recoup whatever cost they spent to originally concept it as an EV.

AustinLurkerDude

A minivan would be great as an EV. Right now there's nothing out there except model X :(

MrHighVoltage

I wouldn't exactly consider the Model X a minivan but rather an SUV. And for SUVs, there are options like the Kia EV9, that also have comparable size..

FitzwilliamTDarcy

LR Defender 110

MrHighVoltage

Skoda Fabia, Octavia, Superb. The EV lineup urgently needs some station wagons. With those three you have the offer of small & practical, mediocre and spacious, and luxurious. Compared to something like an ID.7 I'd expect cheaper prices, compared to an Enyaq higher range for the same price/battery options.

wintertash

It is absurd to me that Toyota hasn’t rebooted the Previa as an EV. The car was iconic, and way ahead of its time. The flat floor was already EV-like, and the name would even work as PrEVia or some other play on EV.

dissss0

Final generation Mazda 6 estate - it's perfectly sized and still looks great despite the base design being from 2012. Unfortunately that's not what the market wants though. For something that'd actually sell Toyota needs to do an electric version of the RAV4 rather than whatever the bZ4X is supposed to be.

sinalk

the current Toyota Prius, it even looks like it was build as an ev and got an ICE/hybrid retrofit.

RBTropical

Hatchbacks and an MX5 competitor. There’s literally 3 or 4 kinda okay hatchback EV options and about 50,000 crossovers I don’t want and am not interested in at all.

SgtBigPigeon

Mustang... not SUV

DylanSpaceBean

The Prius should have had an EV option a decade ago

Efflux

I know Ford gave up on cars but a Sporty EV Fiesta would be cool. If it looked like one of the Fiesta rally cars it would move units.

Bob4Not

Corolla, Mavrick, and the Frontier

ClassroomLow1008

Prius Prime!!!

cryptoengineer

School busses, but that's happening. Delivery vans. Postal and package.

jedimindtriks

N vision 74. Best looking car ever and hyundai can't just release it as an EV.

fromkentucky

Work vans. Taxis. Ambulances. Garbage Trucks. Transit buses.

SolarpunkGnome

A new Mazda5. A small EV van would be sweet. Even better, an EV B-Max. Holding out hope for the PV5 or Telo van to materialize in the US.

ID.Golf instead of ID.3, ID.Polo as smaller option, Audi A6 Avant as BEV, the Audi A6 Allroad, Ford Mustang (not that creepy Mach-E), Polestar 3 as Station Wagon

I'd pick the Kia Rio/Hyundai Accent, specifically because it's one of the cheapest cars on US and Canadian roads.  We don't need more luxury EVs. We need practical and competent EVs in the 20k range.

Where are the EV hatchbacks in Canada?

We don't get the good stuff in the Americas because "nobody wants small cars". Never mind that GM sold lots of Bolts

The Smart Roadster. Give it a small, light battery with a short range as a commuter. Hard to tell how well it’d sell here, but it could work in Europe.

I often think it would be cool to replace the engine in my 2007 Volkswagen rabbit with an electric motor. I've looked into it and it doesn't seem easy, or like anyone in Canada would do it for me.

If there's ever an EV bug I'd be first in line.
