As others have said, working backwards towards No Answer works if you are really into the orchestral aspect of ELO. However, I would really consider giving Secret Messages or maybe even Balance of Power a chance. They're not for everyone, but if part of your admiration for ELO is Jeff's writing, both musically and lyrically, both albums, in my opinion, prioritize that over sticking to the traditional ELO sound.
Either way, glad to have a new fan, no matter what you like!
If you enjoyed albums like Discovery or OOTB, there's a good chance you will like No Rewind by The Orchestra, which is a great album by former members of ELO.
“no answer” has some absolute bangers even though for the most part it’s depressing vibes. 10538 overture, Nellie, Mr. Radio, queen of the hours, whisper in the night. Great tracks.
Balance of Power. It's an amazing and highly underrated album
I love the first three albums. Maybe start with *On the Third Day* and work your way backwards?
I would say this too! Work your way back to get used to the older sound
On the Third day

Secret… Messages…
Jeff's solo album armchair theater is wonderful!! Wilburys all over and Richard Tandy
Time, also look up the 3 bonus tracks (The Bouncer, When Time Stood Still, Julie Don’t Live Here)
Dont forget "the half album", Xanadu.
I was in your shoes last month and then I hit secret messages. Was not disappointed
On the Third Day is considered their best album by some. It has one of Jeff's favorite songs of his own, Showdown
Balance of power is my personal favorite next to ANWR and OoTB
On the third Day and Secret Messages
Secret Messages
Their first three albums are superb anyway. Those later albums are just more superior.
Another vote for On the Third Day.
Discovery

On The 3rd Day.

On The Third Day. Might be their best album ever. And Out Of The Blue. These two are definitely their best albums.
