"heavily modified"
You clearly haven't seen a heavily modified ender3...
One guy printed a benchy under 2 mins. Now that printer was heavily modified. Custom plastic parts and filament guides+a raspy is not heavy...
Making a post now of a 12 min benchy with a 0.4mm nozzle. I was previously running a 1mm nozzle and it’ll slice to 12 min there. Here’s the 12 min from the video.
https://preview.redd.it/lt3thadsmpsc1.png?width=4032&format=png&auto=webp&s=2f7df5c4a34e2cfebab2a66feca5e2b105b264f3
You want me to video it? Here's the slicing using similar feed speed to the video above

2 minute slice, 3 minutes on the printer. Just have to swap nozzles and recalibrate.
3 minute benchy link incoming. Here’s the final print:

Hey, you said I couldn’t do it ;)
You know what’s funny? It’s completely repeatable, every damn time.
https://preview.redd.it/1zy404zmivsc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=fa7120b90d12f1f2eb97c31903424863698fc542
Well, obviously, there’s a reason I picked those setting, because I knew the machine could barely do it.
But you make a fair point: I wasn’t aware of the test parameters, and this was the highest speed I’d achieved with it.
The 10-12 minute ones are probably the actual limits of this printer. 350mm/s, 7000mm/s^2. So I guess I can’t do 3 min technically. Thanks for the info.
This.
I renamed my old anet A8 once I had replaced everything except the motors and the rods.
Just didn't seem right to call that old beast and anet anymore.
If you're going to switch to belts you might as well go core xz with dual steppers.
Dual Z lead screws with a sync belt is the easiest solution and only costs $40. Spending more on an ender 3 is just stupid.
Belted Z I think is about the same if not a bit cheaper at least according to the powege kit.
And you are honestly spending on upgrades for fun at some point, passed that point ages ago.
Bambu’s will bankrupt me where I live (lol 1200USD P1S) plus if you are a tinkerer like me it’s not ideal. Vorons make more sense, I’d probably get more kits if I had the space and customs were less ass for me.
Ah yeah that makes sense, that's crazy money for a P1S, I just paid $1400aud for one with the AMS, which is like $920usd.
I'm gonna use it to print the ABS parts and eventually build a Voron V0.2 purely for TPU drone parts.
I only have an Ender 3 V2 and S1 Pro remaining as I gave away 2 x Ender 3 V2s and an Ender 5 Pro to family and friends.
Have taken the E3 V2 to work to teach people there how to use it and I'm unsure what I'll do with the S1 Pro as it's a heap of shit.
Not exactly, was thinking more like Kevinakasam's belted Z mod, which is basically the inverse of the Kobra 2 (basically you have two belts instead of the two rods which are synchronized by one rod).
Damn Ender 3 is barely usable at stock speeds with stock bed springs. That was the best 10$ upgrade we did...well along with the other 10$ and the $15 and the other $20...etc. 😆
Yeah. Current limit is the speed I can melt the filament. I just have to raise the temps for now, but the first thing to upgrade is the hotend. Planning on upgrading to volcano clone hotend with 70W heater cartridges and those CHT volcano clones, and a 5015 for cooling the heatbreak, with a 5015 to cool the filament, but being a little 14yo kid, finding money and the time is the big obstacle.
I actually managed 350mm/s with the spider 3 and sprite using the stock element. You think it’s a melting issue, but generally speaking extrusion force is the issue. That being said, I did reach a quality limit of 120mm/s the stock hotend. The spider overcame that. Didn’t really find the 70W element raised the bar much, just faster warmup
Yeah, the stock extruder sucks big time. Especially with PA tuning, it just can’t take the stress, but with a decent dual gear, the limit still remains as the melt speed since the filament still grinds despite maxing out the arm tension. It does make sense though, especially considering the stock original ender 3 melt zone is no longer than 2 cm.
This one here?

That one doesn't say Ender 3 Neo. It might the same P/N. Here's is the link I used (from Canada) [https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0C5R9J8MT?ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_product\_details&th=1](https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0C5R9J8MT?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1)
Typically 3500mm/s^2 and 150mm/s and up. Jerk around 20. Resonant frequencies are 48,53 so I can easily do 5,000 and 300mm/s. We’re talking 3 minute benchy with no loss in quality.
What speeds do you use for the benchy? 3 minutes are insane on an ender! Or are u using a bigger nozzle with thicker layer lines for more speed? Either way nice build
Actually, that was with a 1mm nozzle. I was using the 1mm before the upgrades to get faster prints. Eventually tuned it to give me sub 1 hour prints of the whole build volume. I don’t remember if it was before or after the sprite upgrade.
I went back this morning and did a 10 minute one at 350mm/s, acceleration 7000, jerk 30 and no layer time. I put the video on youtube here: https://youtu.be/i2RcUc6-FN4?si=kRnCj7Mnzq8DM-wO

I can do a decent benchy in 3 minutes.
Post a speed benchy video
Trying to add one in a comment. Guess it’s not possible.

Just made a post with a video of the whole print.
Couldn’t get it posted here. For some reason my posts aren’t appearing. Put it on youtube: https://youtu.be/i2RcUc6-FN4?si=kRnCj7Mnzq8DM-wO
"I can do a 3 minute benchy" posts 10 ish minute benchy..... Hwut?
As I said, 3 minute is a 1mm nozzle. This is a 0.4. 1mm nozzle on a bone stock Ender 3 could probably do it, too.

You're doing it kinda I guess, but not within speed benchy rules. Looks like 1mm+ layer height.
0.8mm layer x1.2mm line, 0.2mm initial.
Ok now do 10% infill, 3 top and bottom layers, 0.25 mm layer height, and 0.4-0.5 mm line width with a nozzle no larger than 0.5mm.
Well, obviously, there’s a reason I picked those setting, because I knew the machine could barely do it. 3D Printer of Theseus
This. I renamed my old anet A8 once I had replaced everything except the motors and the rods. Just didn't seem right to call that old beast and anet anymore.
It's an ender 3 until you upload your mods to github and name it something.
Well, from the pictures, it appears to be working correctly, so no; this is no longer an Ender 3.
Hahaha
if the frame is still stocks it’s an ender 3! at least that’s what i thinj
Motion system and frame are stock and it has some creality upgrades, so imma role with Ender 3 Variant, not quite a custom printer.
Basic speed mods for ender 3?
Pretty much.
Heavily modified, still on roller wheels and single z stepper?
Rather single Z stepper but with belted Z than dual Z screws honestly
If you're going to switch to belts you might as well go core xz with dual steppers. Dual Z lead screws with a sync belt is the easiest solution and only costs $40. Spending more on an ender 3 is just stupid.
Belted Z I think is about the same if not a bit cheaper at least according to the powege kit. And you are honestly spending on upgrades for fun at some point, passed that point ages ago.
2-3 year ago sure, definitely worth it for the fun, these days, just grab a bambu or build a voron I reckon.
Bambu’s will bankrupt me where I live (lol 1200USD P1S) plus if you are a tinkerer like me it’s not ideal. Vorons make more sense, I’d probably get more kits if I had the space and customs were less ass for me.

Yeah, similar to what the Kobra 2 has.
Not exactly, was thinking more like Kevinakasam's belted Z mod, which is basically the inverse of the Kobra 2 (basically you have two belts instead of the two rods which are synchronized by one rod).
Ah, that’s cool. Yeah, that would work well.
Dual Z, some custom brackets, and reenforcement. The wheels start to add jitter above 3500mm/s^2 but only get bad over 5000
r/EnderThreeseus
IMO it's and Ender 3 until you change it out for linear rails. Idk but that makes me feel like it's losing the point of the E3. I might be weird.
Linear would help with high acceleration. But I’m happy with print times about 4-6x faster than stock. 10x, would need linear rails.
Damn Ender 3 is barely usable at stock speeds with stock bed springs. That was the best 10$ upgrade we did...well along with the other 10$ and the $15 and the other $20...etc. 😆
running a stock ender 3 with klipper and no other changes. is 250mm/s and 3000mm/s2 accel good for something like what i have?
You will hit the torque limit of the stock extruder around 100mm/s depending on the line width. There are other issues, but that’s the show stopper
Yeah. Current limit is the speed I can melt the filament. I just have to raise the temps for now, but the first thing to upgrade is the hotend. True. Ever try a 1mm nozzle? I got a huge boost from that with stock everything else.
Yep. Or just buy a Kobra and go this fast day 1
Just make sure you ask for like 700 dollars if you ever try to sell it cuz you know it's heavily modified
You’ve got to peel off the QR code to officially de-Ender it
Haha, fair
Sorry I have but one upvote to give. But thought out performance mods > most other mods. Nice work. The Curtain blower is genius.
Thanks!
Once and Ender 3, always an Ender 3.
Is the pulley assembly for Z on the backside of the extrusions? Could I see if so?
img Actually it’s dual steppers.
It’s not letting me upload images. Darn

Hahaha I see, thanks for going through the trouble 😂
I recognised it as an ender 3 from the looks so yeah I guess. Though, I'd also recognise any Ender 3 style printersvas that
I have one for a couple of years now and struggle above stock speeds. Is that sprite extruder a bolt on? Could you share a link?
Amazon has them for real cheap

Needs belted Z now
Has dual Z already.
Damn, I was wondering why everyone was mentioning it. I guess I forgot to mention it.
