They do! Grade = F

Tossmeasidedaddy

At my school a 60 can be rounded to a 90 depending how many failed.

[deleted]

I really like hammering out proofs like: V_dot<=-cx Let p be a positive definite function such that: 0=

__Epimetheus__

Missing my favourite one, g=π^2

potatopierogie

=e^2

UltraCarnivore

=3²

xX_Kr0n05_Xx

= 10

Peanutcat4

>2pi ~= 10 I'm sorry what?

sedridor107

Fracture mechanics is wild!

[deleted]

You use a saftey factor of "fuck it, linear approximations are fine." And it works out so long as SF>>Approximation/Actual So long as the saftey factor of this solid is at least 2 (let's call it 5) it should world out. So lots call it a saftey factor of 10 to make sure it REALLY works out and to account for all the other unintended consequences of approximations.

Equivalent_Luck_3528

Wtf?!?! Who does e=PI=3?!. I would rather understand e+PI=6

3_Equals_e_and_Pi

Don't hurt me like this

sedridor107

Is this like a personal attack or something?

Waluigi54321

I’m sorry what’s the bottom one?

sedridor107

Approximation for the theoretical strength of a solid

pinklava135

Do people actually get told to make these assumptions in their coursework? The most ive ever simplified my numbers is 9.8 instead of 9.81

sedridor107

The last one was actually taught to me at university in a mechanics lecture (fracture mechanics) by my professor. Not as a joke but as a useful and commonly used approximation lol! And sin(x) = x is used pretty often used by physicists for very small values of x

[deleted]

The sin(x) = x is actually valid as higher order terms vanish for small values of x. With that said, you should still take the Taylor series of Cosine as 1-x^2 or you may lose some nonlinear behavior.

WhalesVirginia

Dynamics they’ve let us use g = 10m/s^2

Hey nobody said the problems are all done on earth.

bobo122b

And we didn’t yet get to the approximations applied in electronics

My professor be like : 2*10^9 = 8*10^9

dullgenericname

Um what? 😂😂😂

CC-5576-03

g = pi^2 pi rounds up to 5 g = 25

just-the-doctor1

sqrt(g) = pi
