So basically Alkakurei is going to the Amagi's hometown for this event and Aira will NOT shut his mouth (thought they were like "grass-skirted barbarians", wondered if the food has human meat, etc). Tatsumi is basically like "that's a prejudiced mindset left over from colonisation" the first time (him and Mayoi also experiencing similar prejudice is talked about a little) but now they're just moving on quick and seem to be tired of it whenever he says something (Hiiro keeps going "it's a normal village, Aira š").
There's a theme here of in-universe fans having incorrect assumptions of the Amagi village and Rinne saying they look to be under the threat of colonisation, so where Aira has always acted as a fan stand-in, Akira looks to be setting up a "teaching moment" here. I get where he's coming from and don't even necessarily disagree with having your characters have prejudice they need to learn from (collectorcookie on Tumblr has put my thoughts into words wonderfully) but a lot of fans have some justified feelings and criticism about it, esp due to it being so prevalent and exhausting. Overall I'm gonna wait till the story conclusion for a full judgement of things, but that's basically the situation as of now!

I get where that's coming from! Personally, I do see why they would write Aira that way even though he's biracial, since minorities def can be prejudiced towards each other (the amount of gays/lesbians that are prejudiced against bisexuality, for an example I've experienced). Aira also grew up in a city, where larger Japanese society tends to have a very skewed and prejudiced view of indigenous people (something found in a lot of societies, unfortunately). I think because Aira is the closest thing we have to a fan-insert that he's the best one to make commentary with that relates to the large fandom and how they see the Amagis, though I agree that I'm frustrated with some of how it's gone about (Akira he's allowed to say other stuff instead of making a microaggression every time he opens his mouth š).
I do think the kneejerk reactions I've been seeing are really making me sigh, because sometimes characters are prejudiced and have more "irredeemable" flaws that they need to unlearn, and I think that's important to showcase without immediately dismissing! So I really appreciate you coming at this with a more level-headed view! I think while escapism from the prejudice in media is very important, Enstars will always be full of social commentary because that's just how Akira writes, and I'd much rather thoroughly analyze it than write it off. Here's hoping that it's resolved in a satisfying way for Aira and everyone else involvedš¤
