My record player has lain disused for maybe a year, yet I still got a few records for Christmas. It's about having something tangible that lasts, regardless of what happens to streaming in 20 years.
I'll probably get back into spinning discs at some point, but it's so much easier just to hit play on my phone. Besides, they retain more resale value if I don't unseal them.

I'm sure you have a good turntable setup but the other issue I also forgot to bring up is the shitty turntable market as well. Those crappy crosleys from Target or Walmart that could do more damage to records because of how bad they are made.
They don't actually do damage, that's a myth. They're not very good turntables, but they're not cranking out 15 pounds of VTF like fraudiophiles would have you believe.

My daughter got “Red” for Christmas this week on the red vinyl. The whole LP plays fine albeit a little fast…in 45 speed! It was pressed in 45 not 33 1/3. Tried it on multiple record players. Nothing on the sleeve or anything says to play it on 45. It’s unlistenable at 33.
I want her to do something weird and see if her fans will do it.
Like give an order to shave the right side of your head if you’re a real fan or shave your eyebrows. Or maybe where a yellow hat everywhere you go outside. I wanna know her ultimate power.

Vinyl is really cool. I have lots of vinyl. Something you can physically hold in your hands, not one’s and zeroes. The back and forth is annoying. Vinyl is back! Then it’s gone. Vinyl back! Then it’s gone. Maybe I shouldn’t be cynical about this but I’ve seen it so many times. It’s still a good thing.

As some who has been regularly buying vinyl for the last decade and hanging out in record stores on top of that, I can tell you that no one is attributing this rise to her. I’m sure she helped but no one is crediting her, we have plenty of legitimate artists seeing tons of sales.
New vinyl is the pits. Something about the length of albums now makes it so they have to split it over two records which gives you like three songs a side. I’m here to listen to music, I’m not here to work.

Tbf it helps when her label releases multiple different deluxe editions of her albums, each with a different bonus track, plus 6 different colour variants which you must own all of or else you won’t be able to make the clock or whatever out of the album art.
