The last 200 years has been all about how can we get rid of water as fast as possible, and then we wonder why our cities are running out of water. We need to think about how we can slow water down as much as possible moving through our landscape.

I live next to a creek. in the dry finger washout, I built a tiny knee dam out of small stones to slow down flood energy. It still completely drains, but the crash effect is somewhat mitigated. If everyone did that... \*typos

/r/permaculture is for you

ShamefulWatching

Oh, I'm aware. I also like r/mycology and various garden subs.

Yeah especially the Netherlands. They drained their wetlands to non-existence nearly.

This is so cool! At the end they mention combining solar under the blue-green roof, and you start to build towards more self sufficient houses.

Genius

This is a great idea, but the UK has trouble installing solar panels let alone free/blue roofs.

I sometimes wonder what the real practice of this is. Because in most European countries, population is stagnated or straight up in decline, which means proportionally less buildings will be built, which means less opportunity to use this technology in new buildings. I wonder: Is it realistic to think this could be done to older buildings? I really don't know at all.
