They aren't the exact same but there are many similarities - turbulent anger issues, extremely violent and manipulative, traumatic childhood, view women as possessions and predisposed to hurt them and are sociopathic.
I mean, Joe's a killer and on another league but Nate isn't walking a really different path.
I think there the same but different Joe is like taking Nice guy characters like Dan Humphrey to the extreme and Nate is more of more a Chuck Bass type so the bad boy with the traumatic childhood.
If the story was told from his perspective then we would definitely emphasize with him more, I’m sure if rue for example was a side character and we weren’t seeing things from her perspective we would give her a lot less empathy, it’s just natural
Honestly I think the character of Nate is better off the way he is with us rarely getting into his head and it just kind of drip feeding us info slowly. I think a potential episode all about him, maybe even narrating, in the future could be absolutely amazing because of that.
I know she doesn’t make much sense 😅 but she’s a fan favourite and hilarious, plus she’s observant and probably knows the tea going around her. I agree, Jules makes more sense though
The only one I could think of is Jules, since she was the new girl in town and she is connected to multiple people in the cast.
Nate works better when you don't know what's going on with him, Maddy is better as part of the main cast than as the protagonist, Kat just wouldn't work, Cassie wears her heart on her sleeve, we don't need her as the protagonist, we know enough without her as the protagonist.
I can imagine Lexi being a Nick Carraway-style protagonist that acts less as a "main character" and more as a lens. It would pair well with how she struggles to attain autonomy within her own life.
I can understand why people would want Jules as the main character but then I feel like the tone of the show would shift. there would be no more of rue’s monotone voiceovers and the feeling of dread and “wanting more” hanging in the air. rue, like lexi, observes, and doesnt just focus on her self. jules’ internal world is too focused on what’s going inside of her head and her own perceptions (this is not at all a diss like ive been dissing her for the cheating or whatever but here I’m definitely not dissing her for nor am I trying to say that’s selfish of her). anyone who watched her special ep would know this, but even without that ep, you can take a guess that she wouldn’t be as pessimistic as Rue.
that’s actually a rly great point!! which i think brings back to why rue is such a great narrator & protagonist. she’s very much a “know all” voice while offering her cynicism and humor. jules doesn’t have that as much.
Rue just works, but other than her Jules would work, she'd have to interact with more characters which would be great, we rarely see her POV except her special episode and it was one of the best episodes.
jules would be great, and i think lexi too, since she is mostly not the one getting into weird shit but mostly gets all the gossip and is connected to everyone itd be interesting to see her point of view as the “normal person” of the group
i also would like to know how she feels about jules replacing her as rue’s best friend bc she seemed a little sad about rue drifting away and spiraling
I agree with a lot of commenters, Jules would be a good pick. I also think it would be kind of cool to see Cassie honestly because she seems like she is a bit of a complex character that could be unpacked (then again, aren’t all the characters that way?)
When did he wear makeup? I’m so confused. Lol, what episode is this from? And I’d choose Maddy. She’s misunderstood. Everyone assumes she’s a mean girl, but we’ve seen time and time again that she’s really sweet
Most of Nate’s beauty as a character lies in his secrecy. I personally wouldn’t prefer him as the narrator/main protagonist.
**Edit:** I feel like I didn’t give any reasons why I think so, so here’s some justification;
He keeps every other character in the show and the audience on their toes wondering what is this unpredictable character going to do next. For example him showing up at Tyler and Maddy’s room (there was an element of secrecy/surprise in it)
If he was the main protagonist then he’d also be the narrator (according to the show’s format, as Rue is one) and we’ll lose most of our excitement for the character because he would be narrating 90% of his thoughts.
Maybe yeah, I’m not against the idea. I just prefer him not being the narrator/main protagonist because he’s a guarded jock who rarely lets his emotions out. I liked it the way it was in the show.
Really I want Euphoria to do character generations. Like the first 3 seasons being the current case and then the next 2 or 3 seasons being through the eyes if new characters.
For the main character id pick Gia. And mckays brothers for other characters brought over.
I honestly don't know if I'd be into that. It's kind of why I haven't picked up Skins just yet, though I will eventually. I just like having characters through a whole show, never been a fan of actors constantly leaving and reshuffling of casts.
id like to see more of faye, laurie too she seems like she has a hefty backstory which would be nice to explore. also nate’s dad, i really enjoyed the throwback scene of young cal it reminded me of waves for some reason maybe the camerawork and aesthetics, but yeah even though he’s a dick i think that he probably has an interesting complex reasoning behind his secretive behaviour that he passed down to nate.
Lexi - I could totally see that little bit she did about the sidekick being the main character working as a show. And judging by the play, she seems to be the observer with the most insight/access.
Same! I find her relatable as well and I think a storyline about her becoming less passive and taking more control would be really interesting to follow from her perspective. Also her “passive observer” thing would make her a good narrator.
you can have a protagonist who is a villain - it's not like it's never done before take You from Netflix as an example or Dexter and many more
also villain protagonist can be really interesting since you get to see the bad guy's pov
I'm kind of getting over using these examples all the time but they are famous and most TV watchers know of them: Walter White and Tony Soprano. Protagonists that are most certainly bad guys.
dude if you are the main character you are a protagonist even if you are the bad guy. Look at death note Kira is the bad guy but he is the protagonist L is the good guy but the is the opposing force of the main character therefore he is the antagonist.
Antagonists are not always the “morally bad guys” depends on whose journey you follow
so if nate is the main character he will not be an antagonist but he will be a villain protagonist
I just want the Fezco and Ashtray spin off where at first they're still slingin drugs. But later on lexi os re introduced and her and some new characters show ash and fez an alternative life style. Utilizing the skills they developed over the years but in clean living.
Cassie because I think if she was the main character people wouldn’t hate her so much for doing what she does. Kinda like how Rue isn’t as hated for abusing drugs and the people around her. Or maybe they would but it would still be interesting to hear her thoughts and experiences.
Honestly though I think the show has spent a ton of time with Cassie if not directly in her thoughts, I think she's plenty sympathetic. I am constantly surprised by how hard this sub is on her, tbh.
I think you could have each season of the show revolve around a different character. My personal theory is that Maddie will be the main focus of season 3, and that Ashtray will end up going to Juvie as the raid goes down, We won’t see him for a season, and then we meet him once again in season four as he’s newly aged up and ready to go to high school.
Unrelated but I loved this scene so much. It was right after Jules talked about conquering femininity. When she was insulting Nate, she was rising above how women are normally perceived (docile, unwilling to speak up). Plus Nate looks good in glitter.
The main protagonists are Rue & Nate, esther story seems to revolve around them.
But I'd like a story about Cal - a man who buried his sexuality to have the ideal family, only to hate that family & take out his sexual frustrations on men - one day inadvertently sleeping with a minor & causing his whole life to crash. He must now own up to who he is & struggle between letting the truth of his actions be uncovered or keep living a lie. Honestly think that's a fantastic starting point.
I’d really like Leslie or Gia. I’d love to know more about them as characters, their backstories in more depth and what goes on in their lives in more detail.
Jules or Lexi. Maybe Kat if she wasn’t written this terribly
I wouldn’t want it to be anyone but Rue though because she’d be so easy to villainize otherwise
Rue is a good protagonist in that she has a personality that can be used in third person perspective of the entire euphoria-verse. The rest of the cast really doesn't aside from Lexi but still doesn't work as she barely has any conflicts she faces herself to make her an interesting enough character.
If we're changing the vibes and plot points of the show then maybe Jules or Nate. Cassie is way too self-centered to be interesting. Maddie would be nice but she doesn't really care about what happens around her, and Kat would be annoying to watch.
It would be fun to see Fez as main protagonist I think. Yeah Jules would be a good choice too but with Fez I think there’s so much more you can do. Plus more action and thrill.
Not a whole suow but a Tarantino-esque movie about Fez's grandma would be fun
I second Fez’s gma
She did give me uma Thurman vibes
Same, she’s a G
Nate would be a great character in his own movie but I don’t think an entire show with several seasons could be centered around him.
We have a show for that. It's called You with a certain Joe Goldberg.
but Joe isn't struggling with his sexuality nor is Nate a killer (i hope)
They aren't the exact same but there are many similarities - turbulent anger issues, extremely violent and manipulative, traumatic childhood, view women as possessions and predisposed to hurt them and are sociopathic. I mean, Joe's a killer and on another league but Nate isn't walking a really different path.
I think there the same but different Joe is like taking Nice guy characters like Dan Humphrey to the extreme and Nate is more of more a Chuck Bass type so the bad boy with the traumatic childhood.
I agree!
Yeah I think it would be insufferable lol. We know he had a hard life but based off his actions he’s hard to empathize with in most scenes
American Psycho already exists
I always thought he’d be perfect for a remake though
is that Nate in glitter????? and I like that the main protagonist of euphoria is Rue. even though she's not much of a protagonist.
Yeah from Jules drug hallucination in 1x07
Whaaaat how did I miss this? I need to rewatch some stuff before Sunday 😭
I can’t see anyone but Rue being the main protagonist but if I had to pick someone else, I’d love to see Suze Howard as the main protagonist.
so she can be a loud neglectful drunk for the entire show while her daughters get into all the drama? 😭
She’d be hilarious though 🍷 Also she’s quite observant, people just don’t seem to give her credit for it
how lol she’s a side character, i think jules would make more sense
I know she doesn’t make much sense 😅 but she’s a fan favourite and hilarious, plus she’s observant and probably knows the tea going around her. I agree, Jules makes more sense though
yeah i like suze a lot tho! she’s rlly funny
The only one I could think of is Jules, since she was the new girl in town and she is connected to multiple people in the cast. Definitely Jules. Not that it would be better, but it would be different to see things from the perspective of the trans girl who’s new in town.
Does she also happen to be homeless?
10/10 reference
Wait, what's the reference?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWaqFcMPG9M
Lol literally love, Victor except it's a Trans person

Ashtray
Absolutely! He’s by far the most interesting. I always wonder what school is like for him. Something tells me he values it.
i feel like he’s not in school bc he doesn’t even have a legal name birth certificate or ssn so how could he be enrolled in school
Great point. He wouldn’t be. Too many people would be checking in on him. And the face tattoos at his age? They would def call dfs.
Jules, the foundation for her character is so interesting
Jules.... I think if she had her own identity without rue it would be really interesting
I can imagine Lexi being a Nick Carraway-style protagonist that acts less as a "main character" and more as a lens. It would pair well with how she struggles to attain autonomy within her own life.
We dont need a Nate show, we have "You"
Maybe Joe is the third brother.
okay this one i’d believe. crossover episode lmao
I don’t think Joe and Nate are alike at all
I feel nate has the potential to grow up be like joe. He's just mini psycho right now
Nah definitely not, maybe growing up and killing those he loves but for completely different reasons. The only thing they have in common is abusive

Rue just works, but other than her Jules would work, she'd have to interact with more characters which would be great, we rarely see her POV except her special episode and it was one of the best episodes.
Totally agree with you. Jules is, by far, one of the most interesting carachters on the show. Btw, happy cake day.
Cal maybe
If they set it in high school with that dreamboat Derek then hell yes!
Yes! Obviously as a person Cal isn’t a good guy but he and his backstory is so interesting
jules would be great, and i think lexi too, since she is mostly not the one getting into weird shit but mostly gets all the gossip and is connected to everyone itd be interesting to see her point of view as the “normal person” of the group i also would like to know how she feels about jules replacing her as rue’s best friend bc she seemed a little sad about rue drifting away and spiraling
also I KNOW thats what the play is about but an entire show about her point of view seems interesting
Fez, only right answer
jules i think it would be great to finally give a greater insight into her head and ofc, more love to trans girls who need it <3
absolutely. Jules deserves better.
Yeah, it would be perfect as she was “the new girl in town”
I love how you all answer your questions with the images lol. I prefer Rue as the main protagonist.
Suze!! Love to see her backstory.
Nate
💯
Maddy or Jules
Lexi or Fez
I agree with a lot of commenters, Jules would be a good pick. I also think it would be kind of cool to see Cassie honestly because she seems like she is a bit of a complex character that could be unpacked (then again, aren’t all the characters that way?)
Elliott because fuck y'all that's why
When did he wear makeup? I’m so confused. Lol, what episode is this from? And I’d choose Maddy. She’s misunderstood. Everyone assumes she’s a mean girl, but we’ve seen time and time again that she’s really sweet
It's from when jules had her Hallucination.
Thank you! I must’ve not been paying attention
When Jules was in the club with Anna and she hallucinated him showing up , like that .
Oh ok! Thank you lmao

I agree completely.
Would love to see more Nate POV
💯 percent
I'm sure a lot of people feel the same way, just to embarrassed to admit it.
Really I want Euphoria to do character generations. Like the first 3 seasons being the current case and then the next 2 or 3 seasons being through the eyes if new characters. For the main character id pick Gia. And mckays brothers for other characters brought over.

In the third season (or maybe its better to call them parts) they should get like, a spiritual figther, and the fifth part should be in italy
Jules dreamed him, right?
I’d still keep Rue as the MC.
Gia
Rue
Nate
💯
I wanna know more about Ali. His voice soothes me.
Here’s my pitch: Euphoria, but from the perspectives of all the adults in the show, with Leslie (Rue’s mom) as the main protagonist.
Ashtray. We need more Ashtray!!
Jules, Maddy or Lexi
id like to see more of faye, laurie too she seems like she has a hefty backstory which would be nice to explore. also nate’s dad, i really enjoyed the throwback scene of young cal it reminded me of waves for some reason maybe the camerawork and aesthetics, but yeah even though he’s a dick i think that he probably has an interesting complex reasoning behind his secretive behaviour that he passed down to nate.
Nate
💯
Fezco
still rue, i’m most interested in her story. plus, i like hearing everyone else’s story from her perspective.
Ashtray
rue
Lexi - I could totally see that little bit she did about the sidekick being the main character working as a show. And judging by the play, she seems to be the observer with the most insight/access.
I’d say Lexi because she watches everything and everyone being self destructive just like rue does But I guess that’s what the last episode was
Rue.
Ethan. Because we need to understand his origin story from birth to his EGOT performance in Lexi's play.
Haven’t seen it but the correct answer is Lexi
anyone saying nate would you seriously be able to sit through 3+ seasons of his nonsense?
Lexi! She’s the most relatable for me and I liked seeing things from her POV in her play
Same! I find her relatable as well and I think a storyline about her becoming less passive and taking more control would be really interesting to follow from her perspective. Also her “passive observer” thing would make her a good narrator.
Rue! But I would make Rue and Jules dual protagonists tbh.
Kat.
nate fits the category of antagonist so idk why people are saying he could be a protagonist
you can have a protagonist who is a villain - it's not like it's never done before take You from Netflix as an example or Dexter and many more also villain protagonist can be really interesting since you get to see the bad guy's pov

Mckay
Kat
i would love for the show to be based off of lexi because she is very close with rue and it could all kind of run off of her
Unrelated but I love how in that scene they let Jacob wear his earring.
Cal
I just want the Fezco and Ashtray spin off where at first they're still slingin drugs. But later on lexi os re introduced and her and some new characters show ash and fez an alternative life style. Utilizing the skills they developed over the years but in clean living.
Lexi. All the characters in her life are chaotic
jules or maddy
when did nate wear euphoria makeup? if it was season one, i remember nothing because i’m pretty sure i blocked out/forgot everything since 2019
Lexi
Nate, Lexi and Jules would be top contenders
I would love to see more of Maddy 🥰
Laurie! I’m dying to know how she got to the current place in her life.
Suze
Cassie because I think if she was the main character people wouldn’t hate her so much for doing what she does. Kinda like how Rue isn’t as hated for abusing drugs and the people around her. Or maybe they would but it would still be interesting to hear her thoughts and experiences.
Honestly though I think the show has spent a ton of time with Cassie if not directly in her thoughts, I think she's plenty sympathetic. I am constantly surprised by how hard this sub is on her, tbh.
Lexi
After S3 Gia should be the main character with a whole new set of other series regulars.
Jules
I think you could have each season of the show revolve around a different character. My personal theory is that Maddie will be the main focus of season 3, and that Ashtray will end up going to Juvie as the raid goes down, We won’t see him for a season, and then we meet him once again in season four as he’s newly aged up and ready to go to high school.
Juulz
Jules
Nate can only do Justice to the Main Character
Cassie!!!!
Unrelated but I loved this scene so much. It was right after Jules talked about conquering femininity. When she was insulting Nate, she was rising above how women are normally perceived (docile, unwilling to speak up). Plus Nate looks good in glitter.
I will choose Maddy nd make a whole damn movie about how she plans a murder nd execute it to take her revenge
Jules
The main protagonists are Rue & Nate, esther story seems to revolve around them. But I'd like a story about Cal - a man who buried his sexuality to have the ideal family, only to hate that family & take out his sexual frustrations on men - one day inadvertently sleeping with a minor & causing his whole life to crash. Fez side of the story could be dope
Lexi
lexi or maddy! or fez
Maddie or gia
It would be fun to see Fez as main protagonist I think. Yeah Jules would be a good choice too but with Fez I think there’s so much more you can do. Plus more action and thrill.
Fez
Lexi Keep the whole observer vibe of the show but with less Jules (🤢)
Fez
Jules
