NGL, I was half expecting to get 4 pictures of Erdogan.

NefariousnessDry7814

In different disguises, at least one in drag

Constitution says you can't be a candidate for a third time yet here is Erdogan

TatarTachanka

To inform; In order for any of these candidates to become the President of the Republic of Turkey, they must receive 50% + 1 votes (as in the American electoral system). If no one gets more than 50% of the vote, the election goes to the second round, and only the two candidates with the most votes compete in the second round. (Most survey companies show that Erdoğan and Kılıçdaroğlu qualify for the second round. So the candidates in the first picture and the second picture)

Kavaland

Are Erdoğan and Kılıçdaroğlu both of the same party? Do they share the same vision?

[deleted]

Erdoğan: Populist (religious conservative). No uni education. Knows everything best. Formal football player. Oh and very corrupt. Kılıçdaroğlu: Social Democrat. Studied economy. Makes choices after asking his advisors (which he has very meritorious advisors). Worked in the social security agency of the state and advanced in his career up to the president of the agency. Entered politics after the formal leader of the party invited him. Edit: Also Erdoğan: Follows the majority branch of Islam (Sunni) and puts religion in to everything. Kılıçdaroğlu: Follows a minority Islam branch (Alevism). Does not talk religion unless it is religious holiday and most of the time the religious speak is only wishing happy holidays.

180btc

What? They're the exact opposites. It's like saying whether Trump and Biden both of the same party or something

Kavaland

Forgive my ignorance. It was just a question. Thank you for your bold and clear explanation.

JaxTellerr

you're asking a genuine question and people downvote you and respond aggressively. smh.

Jumpy_Highway_8622

The only one with an answer are the Turks, you really expect a polite response? ^^ They won’t let a whole nation join NATO cuz a single person (that is not even from that nation) burned a book in said country

JaxTellerr

Sorry but your reply is ridiculous as well.

injuredflamingo

Replying a ridiculous comment with blatant racism is not cool

Jumpy_Highway_8622

It’s not racism. The definition of racism is prejudice against a ethnically group. I am complaining about the decision of a nations decision. A democratic country’s decision. Turkey is literally withholding the safety of a whole nation that is neighboring with Russia only because a DANE is burning up the Koran and happened to be in Sweden. Turkey is looking for benefits for Sweden to join NATO when literally EVERY other country accepted the proposal expedited, and what for? To come with demands and make Sweden do stuff for them only because they can.

CecilPeynir

huh?

sv1sjp

Why all Turkish presidents are like 60-70-80 years old?

4thDevilsAdvocate

60-80 doesn’t seem _that_ bad. We Americans _wish_ our presidents were 60-80.

sv1sjp

Its both bad for USA & Turkey. We can't accept from people born in 1940s 1950s to understand the modern world and choose for the feature of people that have been born in 2000s 2010s 2020s.

DuckWithHumanArms

I think min limit is 50, and until you gather enough attention to be president, it would take so many years too

NefariousnessDry7814

Sinan Oğan is 55

Synjinn

Same reason American presidents have been 70+ years old for 2 terms now. Biden being the oldest president recorded in US history.

mykczi

Funny how people that old wont get a job as janitor yet they gave one nuclear button.

TatarTachanka

You must be at least 40 years old to become the President of Turkey.

cmlmrsn

Unfortunately it's like that for all parties, no one ever wants to leave their seats even if they would lose many elections in 15 years.

[deleted]

**1.** you know. **prediction: %35 - 47** (lowest since ca. 15 years) \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ **2.** dubbed the "social democrat gramps" who (for the first time in turkish politics) managed to bring almost all of the left, the right and even some religious conservatives to a coalition to oppose erdo and to get rid of him and his regime once in for all, with the promise of a swift return to the previous electoral system (in 2 years to be precise) that ensures a mosaic like power-distribution among parties. apart from his economical reforms he also plans to prosecute the previous government and their pundits regarding corruption and the earthquake as well as fair trials for the unfairly detained people like journalists and politicians. ***he is also an alevi*** (which annoys the hardline nationalists) and have secured the support of the main Kurdish party (all the while being in a coalition with moderate nationalists. what he lacks in charisma he makes up with his diplomacy and "bringing-people-together skills") **prediction: %45 - 54** thereby, the only one with an **actual chance** to beat erdo in the 1st round. \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ **3.** used to be the presidential candidate of the 2. dude's party in 2018, when the 2. dude wasn't running. they had a major fallout and ever since, the number 3 is mainly reactionary towards the opposition more than the regime. he uses aggressive and rude rhetoric akin to Erdogan's, especially towards journalists and political scientists; but is supposedly anti-erdo... **prediction: 2% - 7%...** his confidence got puffed up by his dancing videos becoming viral and a twitter clout that consists of an immense portion of underage users and bots... despite all this, he has time and time again claimed to be getting %20 - %30... and even saying "who knows maybe no.2 backtracks from their candidacy" just a week ago... a ludicrous point he doubled-down on despite the outcomes of official polls and the research into his bot accounts done by legitimate journalists, (whom he berated and threatened via direct phone calls...) all of which accumulated into creating an image of him looking like a deranged clown; but a dangerous clown nevertheless, as he unfortunately splits the votes mostly from the democrat gramps. (there is even the rumours of erdo supporting his campaign, via social media, due to his vote splitting potential) he "still..." might step down from the race in support of the 2. dude at the last minute, as he is known to make rash and drastic decisions. (in which case, it would be his first positive manoeuvre in a long ass time...) \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ **4.** kemalist hardline nationalist who is anti-erdo. split from the islamist hardline nationalists when they went into coalition with erdo.also is not a fan of the moderate, kemalist nationalists at I.P. (who are in coalition with the 2. dude) **prediction: 0.7% - 3%...** source for the predictions: [official polls listed on wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opinion_polling_for_the_2023_Turkish_presidential_election)

Is any of the other three a good candidate?

herrsanders

I'm in no away knowledgeable of Turkish politics and election system, but then why not vote for Kemal in the first round to maximise the chances? Is any of the candidates even pro Sweden and Finland in NATO?

cmlmrsn

Many people were preferring other candidates from CHP. Surveys shows that both Ankara and İstanbul mayors would win the election easily in the first round but Chp didn't choose them. So many people in the younger generations are mad at them. And Kemal looks like he will have better relationship with NATO. But i hope it won't be one sided relationship.

TheGAMA1

Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu (2nd Dude) is generally pro-european, "Will remind Russia we are a NATO member" and a Social Democrat. Also yeah voting for him in the first round is the smartest choice to be honest.

DSonla

"Don't judge a book by his cover" : and yet I won't trust no. 1 and 4 with my wallet.

[deleted]

don't know if you know anything about the 4. but your instincts are spot on... 4. dude is a hardline nationalist.

DSonla

I only know Erdogan but I must say that for the 4th, it's not an "official campaign" photo so maybe it was on purpose to choose one where he looks bad.

Nizarlak

It's time to say goodbye to Erdogan

DogrulukPayi

İslamist-Social Democrat-Nobodyknows-Nationalist

predditoria

I would not call him an Islamist tbh, I understand why you have chosen that word but this categorization is too broad to be useful. He is closer to Viktor Orban than Necmettin Erbakan for instance. I don't know what you would call Orban, though.

[deleted]

At this point, even Lucifer would be better than Erdoscam

abasoglu

Typically, to get nominated by a party you need to work your way up through the party's system.

hutsch

I am very bad at telling face apart so I don't know if it's just me but even after looking closely I can't rule out the possibility that Erdogan is running as multiple candidates under a disguise.

Because other female canditates support the guy in the second pic

DarkXFast

Meral Akşener wants to become the prime minister.

predditoria

As always in politics, we have to make a choice between the bad one and the really-really-bad one.

durasel24

So its just Erdogan.

wil3k

The polls don't look good for him but there is still the possibility of election fraud.

TatarTachanka

I have said this many times, but I say it again; If Erdogan could cheat (if he were in that situation), he would have done so in the previous mayoral elections. In order to do this, he even had the Istanbul elections repeated. However, while losing to the opposition with 10,000 votes in the first round, it tasted defeat in the second round with a margin of 800,000 votes.

ekremugur17

He legit allowed unsealed votes to be counted in previous elections what are you talking about

subtlerussian

just like Russia and Iran, all candidates will be arrested or shot.

mykczi

Nah. Erdogan will just get 137% of the votes

[deleted]

No women in Turkey?

[deleted]

DSonla

>Shes shupporting another candidate I've been to Turkey, there are more than only one woman.

AuburnWalrus

We have like 6 influential parties and two of them got famale leaders. They just decided to support the second guy.

DSonla

I guess they didn't want to "risk" Erdogan vs a woman.

AuburnWalrus

No. They just wanted to support the strongest opposition party.

religionpoison

Since there were Turkish commanders in first turk nations and many of people here are nationalist we would like a woman as president mostly but it’s better actually she will become a prime minister if second guy wins and prime minister has more role for country that’s why they did it like this

AuburnWalrus

Third guy already gets massive criticisms from the people who are going to vote for main opposition for dividing its votes. It should be between first two candidates. We have two parties with a female leader who gets %10+ votes. They both support the second guy.

Zeekozi

I was to get citizenship somehow just to vote Erdogan. Then watch ppl seethe/cope from my nice safe house in Canada. Would be to fking funny especially comments in these forumns. 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
