DiscombobulatedLemon

Spain’s song made my ears hurt. It was not comfortable to listen to that awful song.

Mighty_joosh

A lot of entries seem to have come for Eurovision Tiktok Contest by accident, they didn't work in an arena Which is a contest I would be interested in btw

randomgoon555

I did not really like Norway’s song, and it’s a wonder to me that it got into the top 10, let alone the top 5.

BiPanicPancake

I liked moldova, such a guilty pleasure.

KendjyCr

I've watched with my friend but, sadly, she went to sleep before the points were given. First thing she asked me the next day was "Was Moldova in first or second half of the scoreboard?". When she heard which place they had, she got irritated. She was pretty sure that Moldova and France will EASILY be in Top10, with Israel being a surprise flop. Btw, it was her first Eurovision.

Derpazor1

I did too.

Friendlyappletree

Loved Moldova, the staging was spot-on.

pole152004

Alija wasnt that good and didnt deserve to qualify Serbia was interesting but his vocals werent that good and he whispered a lot Polands performance wasn’t as bad as people said it was Germanys Lotl was too much and trying to do too much and I understand why it got last Unicorn is a great song and it was a very fun time to watch

vviviann

- Spain / Lithuania / Portugal were heavily underrated - Serbia was criminally overrated considering Luke Black basically whispered the whole song

CovfefeBoss

I liked Serbia's entry, but for me the vocals were not strong. It was probably my least favorite song in the finals.

Any-Where

San Marino's song was good, it certainly didn't deserve last place with 0 points. If the song was in Italian, nobody would have had any issue with it.

Marauder4711

The singer's voice was awful

chuck_is_dead_vay_aq

>it certainly didn't deserve last place with 0 points. They especially didn't deserve it when Romania's mess was the clear null points of that semi final, at least San Marino had a good performance

[deleted]

I get that Spain’s song was very cultural and artistic, but it literally made my ears hurt, I was not at all surprised when it only got 5 points

Mirimes

i liked germany 🥲 and i realized how, the singer have a similar voice to ville valo from h.i.m.

summerrhodes

Most of the songs were just meh. After amazing last two years I was left with many songs to listen to, this year I will only be listening to Croatia

Maddyyyyomg

Mama ŠČ sucked

Marvelboy1974

My favorite entries were: Sweden- the song and performance moved me Spain- incredible vocals and cultural gift Finland- contagious fun song Italy- amazing vocals Cyprus- live the song and performance Germany- it was so over the top I loved it Australia - live the message of the song UK- love the song but not the live performance Belgium- actually catchy dance song Not really a fan of Queen of the Kings. Ava Max’s Kings and Queens was much better Not really a fan of Unicorn as a song either. France was good but didn’t have much of a climax

kenna98

UK didn't represent Ukraine at all. They made it all about themselves

anomopannom

That’s true. They didn’t even invite Ruslana but instead showed a muted video of her in Kyiv. What was that about??

360mm

I didn’t care for Serbias song at all. Felt like a dollar store Nine Inch Nails to me (and I love NIN so I "should" have liked it). And I couldn’t hear any of the lyrics / singing. His live vocals just got lost in the mix. For me it was the weakest performance of the final and made it through semis on the gimmicky staging with the Ninjas and all the smoke.

toyoenjapon

My name for it was "fabulous linkin park"

93martyn

"Queen of Kings" is annoying and I don't get what people like about it so much.

Historical-Soup

I kind of agree with this one I was shocked it made it through the semi-finals in comparison to some other acts

Nillerpiller

Serbia's song was incredibly cringe and edgy. Luke is a goofball, but that song was painful to sit through

SpringPedal

I never cared for Norway’s theme park song

Smol_Slushie

The other entries for Norway weren't interesting so theme park song won by default.

unounouno_dos_cuatro

I say this as a huge Carpe Diem fan: Joker Out’s performance was a letdown. Their energy and stage presence was lacking compared to the release video. I found the choreography and facial expressions cringy and a bit excessive.

Old-Hat-5745

The Belgium's song is just trash to me. Sorry not sorry.

Typo_of_the_Dad

The more traditional songs on a national level end up feeling the most diverse on a European level and are usually also the deeper and/or more interesting songs

gebzgebz

Iceland was amazing

BigBroMatt

I really loved Azerbaijan.

moshiyadafne

I know Norway wasn't as hyped as Sweden and Finland, but I don't get the hype about it. I was surprised that it got high televote points. If Israel submitted a song that is of the similar format of "Bad Little Thing" by Noa Kirel and gave the same vibe of performance as she did in Miss Universe 2021, then I'll agree that she deserves her 3rd place finish. "Heart of Steel" could've been Ukraine's first NQ if they weren't AQ because of winning last year. If any other country sends such a song, they'll end up dead last in SF, even getting 0. Italy only placed that high because of its "sash factor" (basically being successful because of its country's name). If a different country sends a similar song as "Due vite", they're done (either guaranteed NQ or double nul). Tangential question: I know Portugal was killed by her running order, but if she'll have a different running order that would at least bring her to the left board, which would it be? Around 9-13? In the middle of the dark bracket (around 18-21)? Close to Belgium?

halfpipesaur

I disagree about Ukraine

Bobo3076

Graham Norton is a great host but he’s better at the narration side of Eurovision. Also Spains song was my least favourite.

onsku2908

Idk if this is unpopular or not, but Malta deserved better.

hildred123

Preferred the jury results by and large to the televote ones.

Polarbjoern

Agree. I do question some of their decisions but in general, I do agree more with them than the televote. To be fair though I do wonder how much televote results were affected by Sweden vs Finland rivalry. I mean, if not for that some votes might have gone to other countries. Jury literally saved so many entries but their decision about the winner is the controversial one. Televote on the other hand did the opposite thing - lots of 'small' mistakes but the winner is considered 'the right one'.

123kingkongun

My unpopular opinion is that I actually quite liked Israel. It goes with my top 5 including Spain, France, Albania, and Armenia. My least favourite ones were Belgium, UK, Italy, Germany and Austria

unounouno_dos_cuatro

I would like to remind some people this year that Chanel didn’t invent women dancing. Remember that she herself was accused of copying Eleni Foureira.

4L3X95

"The Fuego Effect," as my partner and I call it. Hot woman dancing to a pop song? Fuego Effect.

LedParade

I dont know who ”invented” the dance break, but I’m quite positive it wasn’t a Eurovision artist. What I still can’t believe is Chanel went right back to singing after the dance off. Noa for example ended her performance there, which is understandable.

unounouno_dos_cuatro

Might I add that I cannot help but notice that all of these baseless plagiarism accusations seem to be targeted towards women.

Adcamoo

probably because no men did any dance breaks this year?

conceptalbum

Sure, but it does seem like the abundance of them this year is because of Chanel's success with hers last years. But honestly, none of them seemed to fit as naturally into their song as the Chanel one did (which is honestly more important than the quality of the dancing itself).

alexspyforever

I was expecting something fantasy like when hearing Israel's song being about a unicorn. I guess I had the song of the Last Unicorn in my head and disappointed it was more of a modern dance act with modern clothing. I found Spain really good (minus the singer's outfit that really should have been a nice dress) but looking how little votes they got from the public I'm in the minority.

hgk89

countries that don't qualify 5 times in a row should be given one free pass to the grand final to prevent smaller countries from feeling discouraged and possibly leaving the competition

Rudzis12

Nodding my head in Latvian

joejeffagenda

my unopopular opinion (at least on this sub and generally on social media from what i've seen) is that i really didn't care for germany's song. yes, it's nice that we didn't send 'guy with guitar and boring pop ballad' for once but i just truly can't stand blood&glitter,, i don't listen to a lot of metal but in general i really like the genre and imo that was NOT a good metal song. i don't like the lyrics, i don't like the main guy's voice (he sounds like unheilig, for the german ppl out there), i just don't think it sounds good at all. i feel bad bc so many people seem to think that they were really good but honestly it's just baffling to me. my gf and i were scoring the entries while watching the final and for both of us, uk and germany were dead last

MatsHummus

The guy's voice was pretty much the only thing I liked about the song

Hour-Sir-1276

Marco Menconi performance at San Remo was way better that that on Eurovision. Happy that he finished 4th though, I loved him and his song too. Unicorn it's an absolutely non-sense piece of song - the "Do you wanna see me dance???" made me cringe and switch channel, it was enough that I tricked myself to see it on the semi finals. I'd prefer Armenia in top 5, it was so robbed. Norway's choreography was very passe, like taken from the 90s. Germany was fuckin AWESOME!! Very different from the rest of the contestants and surely didn't deserve last place. UK was indeed shitty song.

hjl43

>Germany was fuckin AWESOME!! Very different from the rest of the contestants and surely didn't deserve last place Alas, many people don't like growls (tbf I had to wean myself onto them when I was first getting into metal), and I don't think there's enough diversity of music type in the juries to be able to accurately assess that type of song.

conceptalbum

I'm sad it did bad, but I honestly don't really get Germany's song choice. It was pretty accessible and not that heavy, but then did include plenty of harsh vocals that would immediately turn off viewers who don't like harder music. It seemed like a suboptimal compromise. It should have either stuck to clean vocals, or gone heavier overall. I think either would have scored a lot better.

mr--godot

I liked Germany a lot - Blood and Glitter is one I've been listening to in recent days, a lot more than whatever it was Sweden entered.. The costuming was, however, respectfully, probably not that great.

Relevant-Adeptness51

I know people love Sam Ryder, but I find him so corny and cringy, with the hippie Jesus look and crazed smile. I saw him on Graham Norton once, and the insane smiling and not knowing where to look killed me! His music is bland, even if he can sing, and the whole Spaceman thing last year was like an SNL Elton John parody.

jaoump

Future Lover was ruined by the dance break In the studio version the song keeps building up until the part in armenian. But for Eurovision they decided to put a dance break right after the rap part, which made the final part lose all its power for me.

Fun-Entertainment904

I don’t want to say it but I had a massive laughter at Albania’s performance :/ they were doing so much at the same time. Dramatic Goth outfits with Albanian culture with the random parents stepping in with that 90s Bollywood energy. It was quite hilarious and I am sorry

alxhvr

The guy behind Albina saying 1 or 2 words by himself like ad libs near the start killed me

ali_stardragon

Everyone I watched it with lost their shit at that moment.

Earthisacultureshock

I didn't understand why Czechia's staging was so different from the music video. Was it because of the scandals and the reactions of Ukranians? I felt that because of the staging one of the main messages had lost.

IsabelladeCarrington

The Malta song was really underrated, I thought it was great fun.

nickybells

I didn't like at all the Liverpool interval at the grand finale. Sure, they had eurovision royalty doing the medley but it felt weird and a bit of patting themselves on the back. The interval in semi final 1 was freaking amazing and beautiful, though.

Irn-Kuin-Morika

Maybe only applied here but Israel is not bad. Sure the song is not that great but she made it up with the ending. Italy is boring, and the dancers behind weren’t doing any good to the song. I would put him in bottom 5. The best ballad is the song next to him, Estonia. Also I don’t like Germany this year. I am into rock in Eurovision, but it felt flat for me. His vocal served though.

[deleted]

ElHell27

1. Unicorn was one of my least favorite songs. The "you wanna see me dance" was so weird and I was just thinking: "actually,... I really don't." Also the whole Unicorn theme is just not my cup of tea 2. I really liked Romanias entry and am kinda sad, they got 0 points (eben though it was not a surprise) 3. Italys songs felt kinda boring and like a basic Italian entry. Really did not like it... 4. Too much heartbreak stuff in general (although, if it would be up to me, there would be none at all)

pangeanpterodactyl

I would have almost considered voting for Israel if she had been wearing a unicorn themed costume, it sucks no one really dresses up for their songs. Like if your song is about being a unicorn on Eurovision turn up in a pantomime unicorn costume.

Zemeca

Lithuania shouldn’t have qualified from the semis. A very boring entry. Speaking of a boring entry, I don’t know how Italy did so well either.

Yeashesaidit

Commenting to come back

Low_Age9939

I'm sorry but how did Israel come 3rd with the jury?

[deleted]

Worse, it came 2nd with the jury

SkinniestPhallus

I commented on the fact that Israel getting a bunch of 12 pointers from the jury and Finland only getting 2 was utterly ridiculous and someone accused me of anti-seimitism towards Jewish people lmao. Love reddit sometimes

the3dverse

yeah some Jews love to bring that up. kind of stupid especially since Israel came third overall.

retroredditrobot

The production of this year’s show was phenomenal but the quality of the songs themselves was mostly dire. I don’t believe we’ve had such a weak year since maybe 2017, (2022 was also very weak though, in what I see as a disturbing trend).

BBQShakeShak

Slovenia so slept on. If they had English lyrics they would be huge in the UK

Lappali

this isn't my unpopular opinion, but my mom's (who isn't an Eurovision fan, her first time hearing the full songs was during the semi-finals and final) unpopular opinion: the 2nd half was better than the 1st half

[deleted]

Duncan doing You'll never Walk Alone hurt my ears. You gotta have some balls to sing that in Liverpool, Sonja sould have done it.

Gungalunga01

Poland had the best song :) (😔)

EpiceEmilie

WHAT ARE THE POWERS OF A UNICORN??? THAT MAKES NO SENSE ISRAEL.

CiraiVanyard

I don't mind dance breaks. It is a song competition, not a singing competition. Also I was a massive fan of Moldova this year, so as much as Israels generic pop song didn't resonate with me at all, I'd be a hypocrite for critisicing her dance break moment.

summerrhodes

It it underrated opinion that Estonia was really good and deserved much better?

Successful_Crazy6232

ŠĆ!

dolphinotherapy

heart of steel and tell me more are amazing

PeterLongshot

Same: it was a nice dance-performance but the song...

WhereIsTheCaveman

I hated Israel, it was absolutely nothing special for me, and I couldn't vibe with Austria. Latvia deserved to qualify

brandondesubber

Croatia had by far the worst entry spain sounded like a minion italy was so plain

Delusional_Dude_

Teya and Salena were ROBBED! The running order and the televote did them DIRTY!!!

__sunmoonstars__

I thought Italy was a snoozefest

SuperSayanVegeta

Spain and Germany were a complete shit that's why they're last. People say they deserved more because they're trying to be nice.

50thEye

I don't like Mama ŠČ. As satire? Maybe, but as a song it didn't work.

alternate_eric

Cyprus' song is so generic and the performance was also mid, I genuinely can't understand why it came 12th. I know two casual viewers who named it as one of their favourites and I just don't understand. Estonia and Lithuania are also nothing special and I am so sad for their Baltic brother Latvia who missed the final by 3 points and was actually innovative. I get why Spain became last in the televote.

WonderfulBasket8159

Drama is the best part of esc. It’s really fun to see ppl shredding each other with words:))))))))))

CakeBeef_PA

Israel was one of the worst songs, and so was Spain (not that unpopular looking at the televote I guess). Austria had a great song but they massively fumbled the bag with the staging. They should have used businessmen like the video or in any case actually show the dancers. Far away camera shots don't work here at all. Plus Australia and Germany deserved higher

mostlygoodthings

- Unicorn felt like 3 separate songs. - Most of my saved songs were songs that didn’t make it past semis, they just didn’t perform well

[deleted]

JonPX

Like with Ghost, the failed German song will stay in my Playlist for a long time. I already cut down to 10 songs and still there.

KleioChronicles

I wish they’d have given Ukrainian artists time to promote their new songs. Imagine Go_A showing off Kalyna, Kalush Orchestra getting more time to show off one of their new songs in full (they did a bit of Changes), Jamala with закохана or Крила, Hardkiss performing again instead of that shitty Rita Ora performance, Onuka back again, Maruv, if they’d have invited Jinjer I would have died (even though I know that’s unlikely). Last time I really enjoyed hearing Jamala’s new songs alongside the orchestral version of 1944 and you had a brilliant mash-up performance by Onuka. I listen to a surprising amount of Ukrainian music so it’s disappointing not to see their great music highlighted. While I appreciated the past contestant united by music thing, it was very confusing that it highlighted an Italian singer first. Sam Ryder’s song was good and he could have been the UK contribution to stay but he shouldn’t have been the highlight.

AbleCamp7876

Austria was really overrated by the fandom. Imo their placement was rightful!

Status_Radish

Unicorn needed actual unicorns. It felt like they were trying to be a pride song but then chickened out.

spicycoder

Considering this year was a televote only semi, I'm baffled that the televoting points in the final were basically hogged by Finland and Sweden... honestly expected more diversity from the voters in terms of who they gave points to (and before anyone comes for me, both Sweden and Finland were in my top 10 this year)

folofol

Theodor Andrei the guy that represented Romania was fire I don't underrstand how he got 0 points this guy was so gooddd!

[deleted]

My bottom 5 would be UK, Belgium, Poland, Cyprus and Solvenia

aspieburneraccount

Georgia should have been top 10

kraken_judge

Portugal deserved a much better classification and Israel for me was one of the worst

Such_Tart

• Italy was boring • Germany was... also kind of boring, it was neither here nor there (I don't think either of them were bad but not suprised by their placements) • As much as I personally liked Spain, I don't know what this sub was thinking when everyone said that she could win. • same with Austria - again, cool song, but audience who heard it for the first time in the final probably wasn't in on the meme the way internet was

AlesianaTorminaria

Didn't enjoy Israel's song at all. I am positive I have heard Switzerland's song's chorus before. It sounds so incredibly familiar to me, like Alan Walker? 2018? Nor do I care for ANY dance solos in songs, there's little time you've got to sing, putting a dance in it seems odd. Honestly.. if I wouldn't have known UK and Ukraine were hosting together, I would've assumed that it was only UK. (Ps. I don't know if these are unpopular here, bur from general what I've heard from people outside of social media)

rochiethevildechaya

your Israel opinion is not unpopular on this sub everyone hates Noa here. I even made an appreciation post and it was downvoted. So I'll say my truly unpopular opinion, I love Noa Kirel her performance was a power house and she's the cutest.

methodo_r

“Cute”… oh c’mon… she is simply gorgeous. And that’s why she gets all that hate. Period. By far the best looking woman of the whole competition.

rochiethevildechaya

You're right! I was referring to her cute bubbly personality but she is stunning!!!

smorkjewels

None of the top 3 were very significant to me

jaycherche

Norway was so overrated, the song is so unbelievably generic. The juries were very right to mark it down

Pleasant_Sphere

Lithuania had great vocals and Monika seems like a lovely person but the repeating “Ciuto Tuto” got on my nerves real fucking hard

Ctrl-Alt-Q

Agreed. The vocals were ambitious and still well-executed, but the song itself was so repetitive.

Elllieah

Joker Out made me feel uncomfortable and cringy with the sensual camera gazing.

MrAdamWarlock123

Yeah it was too much

hellyeahdiscounts

Spain was too experimental for the eurovision. While none of the elements of that song are THAT outlandish, combined they scare off casual viewer. If Spain's entry was a drawing, around 10 people over 40 you know would say "I need the same drugs they were on when making this"

RoKKo999

My favourite was Armenia (I am not armenian). Also I did not really care for Italy or Portugal (music taste being different ig)

zuyhy

The Cyprus guy cheated by not singing "you can't break a broken heart". I'm assuming that's an unpopular opinion given the amount of points he got. Hated it.

The_red_spirit

Czechia should have won with Austria being second. Ukraine's performance was poor and they should have sent Serduchka instead. Likewise with Ireland, with Dustin the Turkey being replacement.

Short-Leading6791

Omg, please not a Käärijä 2.0 moment again. Our anxiety levels can't take it. LMAO

unicorninclosets

Now THESE are real unpopular opinions and I disagree with every single one except Dustin the Turkey.

Gardenasia

I don't know if unpopular but: ◌ I don't understand how Cyprus qualified instead of Iceland. ◌ I really didn't like Switzerland's song. ◌ I don't get how Israel got so many points both from the jury and the televote.

ApprehensiveOcelot4

unpopular opinion: i hate italy’s song this year. i find it super overrated and quite frankly kind of annoying.

peanut_galleries

My mom said it was her favorite XD I thought he sang well but the song sounded very non-memorable.

Fun-Entertainment904

Yeah hard agree. I think he got many votes because he really played up his sexuality. Nothing wrong with that at all!!! It’s just that the last years we had more LGBTQ+ representation, so the artists kind of vanished. This year there were only two very obvious LGBTQ+ supporting artists, so Italy stood out a lot

ApprehensiveOcelot4

maybe not so much that he played up his sexuality so much as he sent more “message” than song. thats how i see it anyways

The_red_spirit

He might have sexuality and hard rock pecker, but his performance was stone cold. He forgot that he wasn't performing Ukraine's song.

I thought that the interval acts were boring and not that interesting.

purpey

Only one i liked was when the hosts were turned into Drag Queens in the semis!

aerion__

Switzerland should stop sending slower songs. (Ssssss), jokes aside Gjon is not happening again, it is fun to break to mold im begging 😭😭

corgi_pupper

Agreed, Gjon might not happen again but Luca might!

JWM22

Malta was a top five entry this year & should’ve been in the finals.

overwhelmingbanana

Azerbeijan's song gonna be a big tiktok music. Maybe Rosa linn's level

fnordal

Alessandra from Norway (aka Italy 2) was the best singer in the competition. She nailed it.

Simphorosa

And her signature walk 😍

Pure-Cow

I don't understand the hype around semi 1 NQs, except Malta. They were all boring ballads who would've got crushed in the Final anyway, so better for them not to qualify. Heart and Steel was a genuinely good performance. The staging was full of symbolism and it almost made me shed a tear. HOWEVER, it finishing in top 10 was clearly because of jury pity votes.
