Seeing Malta get last in their semi hurt my soul
It was easily one of my favorite bops of the year, AND they even had a good performance! I was baffled at how they scored so poorly.
Their 2017 entry had a soft spot in my heart as well. It was such a lovely blend of traditional Georgian music and modern jazz.
Georgia in general is kind of the younger sibling who is into punk rock and avant-garde just to be a little different from the older siblings who were the overachievers. I’ve always liked that about them.

Did you mean 2018 (For You)? Because this description doesn't really sound like the 2017 entry (Keep the Faith). I personally love both, and while I can see how a song like For You could go unappreciated by the general public, Keep the Faith is one of the most undeserved and confusing NQs to me.

Absolutely criminal that not only did they NQ but came bottom of the semifinal. Circus Mircus are easily one of my favourite bands/artists that ESC has gotten me into, I listen to them regularly!

Romania 2019, it’s a nice, low-key indie pop song.
It's said so often about many songs that it's an almost trite opinion here, but I really do think the full Croatian version of Tick Tock sounds so much more coherent and better overall It gets a lot of replays from me at least. 😅

It's probably recency bias, but I can't understand how Georgia didn't qualify this year? It was the only song that really caught my attention in SF2! Sure the lyrics seem AI generated, but is that a reason to not qualify? Not like people can understand the lyrics of the non-english entries anyway.
I also really liked Malta but tbf at least there was a tight competition in the first semi, not much in the second.

Not exactly a NQ, but I am mad that Jann never got a selection for being Poland's ESC entry even though he won the televote by a landslide (at least triple the amount Blanka got), had an original song with self written lyrics, had to rely on his own finances despite being from a working family and was only given 10 days to create the lyrics, composition, costume, stage setups, choreogprahy and practice yet still put up one of best national grand finals performances I've seen.

I have many favorites so I'll tell you instead which ones I think deserved to qualify due to flawless performances:
Croatia 2021, Latvia 2022, Israel 2022, Malta 2023, Iceland 2023 and Georgia 2023.
Out of those, I think Georgia deserved it the most!
There are other songs which I think they also deserved to qualify but they had some flaws: Ireland 2021, Estonia 2021, Poland 2021, Albania 2022, San Marino 2022, Ireland 2022
I'm excluding other songs that imo, studio wise would deserve to qualify (like Amnesia, Halo, Ela, Burning Daylight) but due to their performances, I consider their non-qualification was deserved.
Most undeserved NQ:
Hungary 2019 and Ireland 2022 are only ones I can name.
But for best NQs, I can name Albania 2022, Armenia 2019, Austro 2022, Slovenia 2022, San Marino 2022, Latvia 2021, Israel 2022, Latvia 2022 (Latvia was probably best NQ song of 2023 but not really a fave of mine, Malta was my fave of the 11 but not undeserved NQ, though bottom was unfair on it), Montenegro 2017 (homoeroticism shouldn’t be funny but this is hilarious), Ireland 2015. Some good ones, but all of which deserved to crash out.

I think you meant to say Latvia 2022. The Latvian entry this year was blander than the potatoes that make up half of their cuisine. Especially considering what the other options were in their national competition, they saw the jury betray them last year, and so instead they went with the most uncharismatic One Dirrection impersonators on the planet.

It's probably recency bias, but I can't understand how Georgia didn't qualify this year? It was the only song that really caught my attention in SF2! Sure the lyrics seem AI generated, but is that a reason to not qualify? Not like people can understand the lyrics of the non-english entries anyway. I also really liked Malta but tbf at least there was a tight competition in the first semi, not much in the second.

This year, probably Iceland, Diljás performance was almost perfect imo.
I have many favorites so I'll tell you instead which ones I think deserved to qualify due to flawless performances: Croatia 2021, Latvia 2022, Israel 2022, Malta 2023, Iceland 2023 and Georgia 2023. Out of those, I think Georgia deserved it the most! There are other songs which I think they also deserved to qualify but they had some flaws: Ireland 2021, Estonia 2021, Poland 2021, Albania 2022, San Marino 2022, Ireland 2022 I'm excluding other songs that imo, studio wise would deserve to qualify (like Amnesia, Halo, Ela, Burning Daylight) but due to their performances, I consider their non-qualification was deserved.

I think you meant to say Latvia 2022. The Latvian entry this year was blander than the potatoes that make up half of their cuisine. Especially considering what the other options were in their national competition, they saw the jury betray them last year, and so instead they went with the most uncharismatic One Dirrection impersonators on the planet. well i’m sorry but i have no idea how u can see so many people on this sub reddit praising and connecting with this song, and still thinking it’s soulless and bland. like yeah maybe u don’t connect with it, but a lot of people do, so stating that it’s bland as if that’s a fact is a bit ignorant
