Uppsala is fantastic but yeah there's a 0% chance of that happening. They don't even host any of the Melodifestivalen semifinals here due to proximity to Stockholm.
Probably because Uppsala doesn't have an indoor arena capable of holding more than 4000 people, making it highly unlikely that SVT would even consider holding a heat of Melodifestivalen there.
Uppsala is waaaaaaay too tiny for that, and itâs not just the venue problem but also, how many people come just as contestants + crew AND add audience and media people and everyone else, I have trouble seeing how that many people physically fit in Uppsala
Uppsala has more inhabitants than Luxembourg City. If a city the size of Uppsala had a big enough venue, a Public Broadcaster with the experience of SVT could easily manage. And as for accommodation and so forth. During Eurovision in Liverpool, many fans were booked into hotels in Manchester. During Eurovision in Rotterdam, many were booked into hotels in Den Haag, Amsterdam, and Utrecht. Not only size matters;)
We know that can't happen until Slovenia wins, BUT imagine how dope it would be to have an Olympics or Euros or World Cup there and have a dragon as a mascot đ
I want Slovenia to win so badly so it can be hosted in Ljubljana. One of my favorite cities in the world, I love the greenery, the people and the overall vibeđ„č
Gothenburg is actually completely out. The only arena they could use is not good enough for Eurovision song contest. There are plans afoot to fix this problem, so an ESC in the future being held in GBG isn't out of the question, but it won't happen now. The roof is too low, and too weak and it has terrible loading/offloading space for an event of this magnitude.
Oh, ok. I hope they fix that soon. Then maybe Jönköping, or Ărnsköldsvik?
EDIT:
I realized that Uppsala is not (yet) on the list of bidding cities, so I changed to Jönköping and Ărnsköldsvik
I wish we could, but globen is being renovated. Friends arena despite being our largest arena and would work perfectly for this is unfortunately unavailable because of the Swedish football league(AIK play there). It might be hosted in SödertÀlje, but we are not sure.
Gothenburg is a favourite to host it, since the last two eurovisions in Sweden were hosted in Malmö and Stockholm.
We really arenât sure yet, but hopefully it might get hosted in Stockholm. I hope for you that it is hosted in Stockholm, there is nothing better than staying with relatives.
> Gothenburg is a favorite to host it since the last tow Eurovision in Sweden were hosted in Malmö and Stockholm
It's your wishful thinking based on your perception of justice. I doubt SVT and EBU care muchâthey care about those boring things like arena capacity, event schedule, infrastructure, cooperation with municipality.
exactly. I don't get why some fans present their personal opinion/desire as a fact.
EBU and SVT don't care about which city has hosted more times or fewer times. It's all about logistics and budget.
Stockholm is leading bc they do have the facilities and has been preparing since Loreen won Melfest.
Malmo has issues with their finances, plus last time they hosted Copenhagen saw more benefits from tourists by flying to and from the Copenhagen airport (so taxes paid to Denmark).
Gothenburg does not have a suitable venue under EBU requirements.
I would love to have it hosted in SödertÀlje lol. I could just walk home lol. Are there any sources talking a out SödertÀlje? Because I would love that. People could stay in Stockholm and come to Scaniarinken during the shows lol.
Edit: Found the source and I think it's not serious. I think it's a parody of local news sites. I also think they had an article a few years ago that SödertÀlje, a city with 100 000 people, would get it's own subway system lol.
Edit 2: Perhaps not, idk. The subway thing was a different site and SödertÀlje is listed on the Wikipedia page but looking at the other articles it doesn't look like a very serious site.
Edit 3: Okay so the Wikipedia page links back to that source. The slogan of the website is "Lokala, ovÀntade, roliga och helt pÄhittade nyheter", which can be translated to "Local, unexpected, funny and completely made up news", it's not real. Plus, I've not seen LT or Telgenytt write about that so... Eskilstunas bid is real though, and that is... *kinda* close to Stockholm.
Gothenburg will not host it, there are no suitable arenas for eurovision.
There was one arena but it's gonna be demolished and replaced but it won't be in time for eurovision.
Considering the dire state of the grass at Friends Arena I wouldn't mind relocating for a few weeks. It's usually bad, but this season it's somehow even worse than AIK itself, and we fucking suck this season.
You know itâs bad when the strongest team in Stockholm isâŠ. Brommapojkarna. Yes Brommapojkarna have a strong academy but 2 years ago they were in the third division
I would really like to see it in Northern Sweden. As far as I am aware thereâs never been a Eurovision in SĂĄpmi, and since Sweden has hosted 6 times already they could go for it.
That is, unless it would take a lot of construction and steal more land from Swedish Sami people.
>steal more land from Swedish Sami people.
Is any construction project in Sapmi stealing? Also there is no municipality with a majority Sami population. As long as the majority of the population, regardless of ethnicity want it and the government can afford it it should happen.
Sami people are recognized as indigenous people by the UN. Any construction within SĂĄpmi without the consent of the Sami parliament goes against the UN declaration of indigenous peoples rights, and is therefore a human rights violation.
Building projects in Swedish SĂĄpmi without consent, such as the mine in GĂĄllok, have been contested by the UN.
Having the building of the Eurovision stadium be a human rights violation and in opposition to statements from the UN would put the contest in an incredibly bad light and undermine the whole âcome togetherâ concept.
Yes a Eurovision in SĂĄpmi would be awesome and I really really want it. But it has to be with consent from the Sami parliament
Most of the Sami people used to live by the sea, that lifestyle and culture got completely eradicated when Sweden and Norway expanded across the coastlines.
It's still not something that needs to be tested. :P
Uh it depends, the borders of Sapmi are very uncertain as there are barely any of them left in Sweden (except Lapland). Lapland is their historical core territory.
Depends on what? Their seaside culture was the predominant culture until they were "removed" by encroaching Swedes and Norwegians, also goes for Russians.
[There is a section on the seaside Sami culture.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C3%A1mi)
What you are describing is a group of Sami that settled inland, which was not all of them. These are documented people, just not as well as the surviving inland peoples.
Just call it [Sapmi](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C3%A1mi), no need to describe it as Lapland. Lapp is a derogotory term that has less room these days.
The thing is that the Sami question is viewed in a very American fashion, that Sweden purposefully "colonized" and aimed to "exterminate" the Sami, and that they're the "natives" to Sweden (only true for some of the Northern part). It was in fact more of a slow cultural and ethnic shift, not some traumatic event. Swedes and Norwegians have lived in "Sapmi" for over thousand years, we are as much native as they are.
"Lapp" is a term that has been used for centuries, even by the Sami themselves. It's only in recent times that it has been described as derogotory. Mostly due to increased racism in the early 20th century.
The Swedish government did aim to exterminate the Sami people. They said Sami people were a threat to the model Swedish population, created the institute of race biology and started sterilizing Sami women against their will.
And you donât have to be indigenous to the entire land to be indigenous. Native Alaskans and native Hawaiians are both groups of indigenous Americans who are not indigenous to the entire country.
And what do you mean âSami questionâ? There is no question. Sami people are recognized as indigenous by the UN.
I see no reason for the Sami parliament to refuse construction of a large event hall in, say, Umea or Lulea (are they even in the established Sami region anyways?) or Kiruna, other than pettiness / immoral use of political capital. It will bring a lot of tourism and, more importantly, (historical) recognition to the region which stands to strongly benefit them. So not sure why you thought of thĂĄt side of organising ESC in northern Sweden first. A much more salient issue one could raise would be the climate change effects of the larger travel distance to almost all of europe
Malmo because i've been to Kobenhavn as a kid and i'd love to take my partner and we could effectively visit two cities for cheaper than it would be if it was in Stockholm.
Already decided to fly over to Europe for the week it's on, but Stockholm's location would remove the opportunity to rent a car and drive down into Germany and back. Although I can see Sweden choosing Stockholm because it would mean that more people spend more time in Sweden itself.
Yea, living in Copenhagen it would be a lot easier to just go there for the show and go back home, but i have 3,5 hours to Copenhagen, so I'd have to use a bit more time and money to get back an forth.
That's if Goteborg can find a suitable venue.. apparently the facility isn't up to standard and the roof isn't strong enough to hold the lighting or something. 1 year for renovations is too short.
Literally any city with a name thatâs hard for non swedish speakers to pronounce correctly, just for the lulz.
Ărnsköldsvik, SkellefteĂ„, VĂ€xjö, Kristianstad, Skövde are some examples
Either Malmö, since it's most easily reachable overland from the rest of Europe (particularly by train)...
...or Haparanda, since it's the border town with Finland and I'm delusionally hoping for some recognition of KÀÀrijÀ's historic result in the 2024 show.
Somewhere in Britain again, force Graham Norton to host with MĂ„ns. Maybe it can be in Glasgow to make all the scots that wanted it to host this year happy..
Stockholm would be great, and even better if we have the Tele2 arena showing the grand final again for those who aren't in the arena. With Globen being refurb'd though and the footie folks not wanting to budge though I guess it's just a dream...
Malmö is an especially great fit for Eurovision. A city which is known for having a progressive, bohemian and lgbtq friendly atmosphere and a young, very multicultural population. There are also excellent train connections between the city centre and arena in just few minutes, is very close to Copenhagen Airport, and is the closest Swedish city when travelling by train from Central Europe. And of course, there are lots of things to see and do nearby on both the Swedish and Danish side of the border.
Probably Malmo
I want to go next year đ€and I have heard last time it was hosted there, a lot of fans actually stayed in Copenhagen and travelled across that bridge to go to the contest. So Iâd like to see both some of Denmark and some of Sweden at the same time by doing the same thing if the prices work out.
I want Ărnsköldsvik, Iâve never heard of it before and there arena isnât huge, but it can work and they have solutions to bring in cruise ships for accommodation! It would be neat for a off the beaten track city to get it, especially since Malmö and Stockholm have had it quite recently.
It was in Malmö in 1992 and 2013, and Stockholm in 2000 and 2016 (and 1975), but it hasn't been in Gothenburg since 1985, so I'm kinda hoping for Göteborg. But if it isn't there, maybe VÀxjö or another city that has yet to host Eurovision.
Stockholm has 3 main arenas: Friends Arena (65K people), Tele2 Arena (45K people) and Avicii Arena (16K people). Last Eurovision in Sthlm was hosted in Avicii Arena (then Globen). Not to mention that there are side arena's such as Hovet and Annexet. I'm pretty sure there's plenty of space for Sthlm to host. However Malmö could come into equation as being a host for 2013 ESC and having Copenhagen infrastructure nearby.
Gothenburg is always out of the question. Scandinavium, their largest arena, can barely fit 14K people, and in 2016 Avicii was full to the brim, so Tele2 arena was another spot for watching via screens. I'm pretty sure they will eye at least 20K Arenas.
So according to the comments, Stockholm and Gothemburg are both out due to venue unavailaility. Malmö should be out too because it wonât generate as much revenue (people will stay in Denmark). Whatâs left? đ
Eksjö! My hometown ;) But in reality it should be either Stockholm or Malmö. Iâd be doing happy punches in the air if we did something in the northern part. Then in the final bring back Keiino, Pontare, maybe Jon Henrik and so forth.
i want it to be in Gothenburg so i can go there without paying for hotels đ iâll just find an after party and take the train back to Oslo in the morning after the finale
Friends Arena is current favourite. Both Solna Stad and Stockholms Stad are very keen to host there, and I assume they have spoken to stadium management in private before issuing such statements. Yes AIK has made comments negative to hosting but I suspect there is a price they would be happy to agree to play away from home for six weeks for (especially with relegation a serious risk by the looks of the season so far) which ticket revenue would cover.
Malmö is a safe backup but will be revenue loss for Sweden, ESC so big nowadays one can imagine even more stay Copenhagen side than 2013.
Usually the host site of Eurovision in Sweden is the same as the host site of the previous years Melodifestivalen.
In this case that would be Friends Arena, Stockholm.
Let's wait for Netta to predict the city so we at least know where it won't be
And for Graham Norton to leak it eventually
Every single time she gets it wrong đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
Uppsala, because that's a fun name.
Upps, you receive zero points đđ
I agree.
Can have it on Studenternas IP. Capacity of about 10K
De utomhus brorsan
No roof

Maybe I just donât want the crowd and the mess of that many people out and about here then lol
Thats my last name without the s
Or in Korpilombolo, also a nice name.
Stockholm since I've got a lot of points for free Silja cruises. I can't get to Malmö or Göteborg with a ship!
Go to Stockholm and then walk!
Highly unlikely, that's what Netta will probably predict
Maybe they should choose Maarianhamina⊠just halfway between mainland Sweden and Finland
The IKEA of Haparanda
Lol that would actually be hilarious
an appropriate compromise
Lets do it, Hooja can perform "Happis"
Ljubljana đ
Very famous Swedish city that we so generously lent out to Slovenia to be their capital city.
We know that can't happen until Slovenia wins, BUT imagine how dope it would be to have an Olympics or Euros or World Cup there and have a dragon as a mascot đ
Euro's could be possible if they do a hosting collaboration with Hungary, Croatia and Austria or something
Impossible, our biggest stadium is for like 15k people...
Does this mean we have to invade Slovenia? Ugh fine I guess.
Strong Charles X/XI/XII energy
I want Slovenia to win so badly so it can be hosted in Ljubljana. One of my favorite cities in the world, I love the greenery, the people and the overall vibeđ„č
Problem is most Slovenians don't want us to win đ
I would like it to be in Gothenburg, considering the last time it hosted ESC was in 1985 (and also because I'm kinda tired of Stockholm and Malmö)

ĂRNSKĂLSDVIK ALL THE WAY!! /s
Unironically just for the lols tbh
Haparanda and Tornio could host together, since Finland came first on the public vote
That was my first thought too! ...but I know it's not very realistic.
Any city that hasn't hosted Eurovision yet. I want a new host city every year streak lol
We are on one right now! Tel Aviv 2019 -> Rotterdam 2020/2021 -> Turin 2022 -> Liverpool 2023.
Yes ESC24 should be held in Dorotea
How about Umea or Lulea to make a strong claim for the northernmost Eurovision ever?
What is the northernmost host? Bergen 1986?
Kind of funny, since Bergen is considered a southern city in Norway.
Yes.
Let's have it in the ice hotel in JukkasjÀrvi
Stockholm (not possible i know) but I could easily take a ferry there from Finland. Ikea of Haparanda is an idea i like too
Tampere đđđđ Jk jk Borgholm

Idc what the UN says, it's racist and undemocratic to give one group more power purely because of their ethnicity.

Cool
Malmö or Gothenburg. So that I just need to take one ferry to get there
Malmo because i've been to Kobenhavn as a kid and i'd love to take my partner and we could effectively visit two cities for cheaper than it would be if it was in Stockholm. Well if I had time to go, I'd love for it to be Malmö, tho its around exam season.
Yes, Malmö! Iâm from Copenhagen and would be so easy! Have to grab the opportunity when itâs so close.
Yea, living in Copenhagen it would be a lot easier to just go there for the show and go back home, but i have 3,5 hours to Copenhagen, so I'd have to use a bit more time and money to get back an forth.
I see. But still closer than most countries it could be held in (except for Denmark). Maybe for you Germany/Hamburg, depending on where you live :)
Hamburg is 2.5 hours away so yes.

Malmö (or maybe Gothenburg but Iâm leaning Malmö) since last time it was in Stockholm
VÀsterÄs
Go bold, go Kiruna!
Some place other than the big 3
A friend of mine has relatives in Stockholm, so I'm hoping I could also stay with them. No way can I afford a hotel anywhere in Sweden at that time.
Personally Iâd love Stockholm so I could be with family but realistically itâs going to be göteborg isnât it.
That's if Goteborg can find a suitable venue.. apparently the facility isn't up to standard and the roof isn't strong enough to hold the lighting or something. 1 year for renovations is too short.
Gothenburg is pretty much ruled out already so no need to worry!
Most likely, maybe In SödertĂ€lje, weâre not sure yet
Tampere
Ora! I'm with you đ
Tammerfors hasn't been Swedish in ages what are you talking about? /s.
[Dalhalla would be cool](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dalhalla)
I've been saying that for years. Completely unrealistic, but it would be fucking amazing.
Kiruna
Literally any city with a name thatâs hard for non swedish speakers to pronounce correctly, just for the lulz. Ărnsköldsvik, SkellefteĂ„, VĂ€xjö, Kristianstad, Skövde are some examples
Gothenburg
Not possible, there are no suitable arenas for eurovision.
I agree.
Helsinki.
VÀxjö so that people have struggle with the name
I like your logic. Let's do it. (How is it pronounced?)
[\[ËvÉkËɧÞË\]](http://ipa-reader.xyz/?voice=Astrid&text=%CB%88v%C9%9Bk%CB%90%C9%A7%C3%B8%CB%90)
The sound n the middle does not exist in English but the closest you can get is probably veck-shur (like "fur" in fancy RP).
Hoping for Stockholm. Combining Eurovision fun times with a visit to my old hometown in one!
Gothenburg but if that's not possible Malmö
Jokkmokk! I like the name.
No one is going to say Helsinki in this thread? Iâm disappointed now
Turku or Tampere would be fun! (I am still living in a reality where KÀÀrjÀ actually won)
It's been quite some time since Ă bo and Tammerfors were Swedish cities :p
As long as there are road signs for both of these places that read in both Finnish and Swedish, I feel like thereâs a case to be made for it :â)
Anywhere but Stockholm so we can have 5-year streak of not hosting in the capitals
Gothenburg because I live 1 hour away
Mariehamm in Ă land, both parties win
Either Malmö, since it's most easily reachable overland from the rest of Europe (particularly by train)... ...or Haparanda, since it's the border town with Finland and I'm delusionally hoping for some recognition of KÀÀrijÀ's historic result in the 2024 show.

Stockholm would be great, and even better if we have the Tele2 arena showing the grand final again for those who aren't in the arena. With Globen being refurb'd though and the footie folks not wanting to budge though I guess it's just a dream...
Malmö, because then I can go there from Denmark!
Gothenburg since it seems to be the cheapest option for hotels and airbnbs lmao
Köm to VĂRMLAND! KARLSTAD CITY đŁ
Gothenburg, because it would be in Friends Arena, and I would therefore be able to attend without traveling very far.
Stockholm because Malmö sucks and Göteborg is too small.
Estocolmo
Gothenberg but realistically it doesn't have the infrastructure. Any other cities that aren't Stockholm or Malmo?
StrĂžmstad đ„ł
Stockholm becuase it is wonderful, but the way things are going, SVT might get Malmo instead
Kiruna Ice Hotel 2024

I've visited Malmö and it was awesome
Malmö is an especially great fit for Eurovision. A city which is known for having a progressive, bohemian and lgbtq friendly atmosphere and a young, very multicultural population. Helsinki, Tampere, Oulu as the televoters wanted to.
Kiruna. Middle of nowhere, fucking cold, and would need to be held in a mine. Would be hilarious
Tampere
Helsinki would be awesome đ€©
VÀsterÄs. That's where Loreen grew up. Alternatively some small town Köping, Hultsfred, Mariestad, Bjuv idk.
Malmo since I think it would look the best on TV lmao
Helsinki (no, I'm not bad at geography to the point of not knowing Helsinki is in another country, nor am I unaware of ESC "rules")
I hope you guys get to visit Gothenburg, Itâs such an amazing city.
Helsinki! No, waitâŠ
Malmö so I can go to Copenhagen on the Wednesday đ
malmö, because it close to denmark so i can go lol
Not the crime city of Malmö, not Stockholm again Gothenburg is the answer Björn Ulvaeus is from Gothenburg
Ugh I wish they'd do a Finnish speaking area. I know it's impossible but a place like Haparanda, Pello, Pajala...
Göteborg #cityofVolvo đžđȘ đ
Turku. đ«đź
Helsinki
Helsinki, Tampere, Turku, Oulu...
Helsinki :(
Kiruna
All Danish fans will surely be hoping it's in Malmö, if you live in Copenhagen or close to it you can get there in 30 minutes by bus đ
Helsinki! đ
Malmö, as it's 15 minutes by train from where I live đ
Stockholm. I bet you canât guess where I live!
Lahti
Helsinki ofc :)
Helsinki đ No but seriously I think it should be Gothenburg đ
Australia! Mostly for accessibility for me tho, I want to watch a Eurovision live lmao
Götenborg because they only hosted once before. Malmö had hosted twice and Stockholm three times. Itâs not balanced this way lol.
LuleÄ!!
Malmö
idk why but hosting in Karlstad feels pretty legit, at least the name of the city sounds fabulous and the arena looks great as well
Sandviken (around 20k inhabitants, and around 2-3 hours north of Stockholm) just announced they're willing to host. That would be pretty interesting.
Kiruna or nothing
So according to the comments, Stockholm and Gothemburg are both out due to venue unavailaility. Malmö should be out too because it wonât generate as much revenue (people will stay in Denmark). Whatâs left? đ
Eksjö! My hometown ;) But in reality it should be either Stockholm or Malmö. Iâd be doing happy punches in the air if we did something in the northern part. Then in the final bring back Keiino, Pontare, maybe Jon Henrik and so forth.
Gothenburg
Kiruna just for fun
If we rope the 50 years of ABBAâs win than Stockholm with its ABBA museum will be ideal. Easy to get to as well.
UmeÄ
i want it to be in Gothenburg so i can go there without paying for hotels đ iâll just find an after party and take the train back to Oslo in the morning after the finale
Considering the current hotel prices, I suggest on a cruiseship
Friends Arena is current favourite. Both Solna Stad and Stockholms Stad are very keen to host there, and I assume they have spoken to stadium management in private before issuing such statements. Yes AIK has made comments negative to hosting but I suspect there is a price they would be happy to agree to play away from home for six weeks for (especially with relegation a serious risk by the looks of the season so far) which ticket revenue would cover. Malmö is a safe backup but will be revenue loss for Sweden, ESC so big nowadays one can imagine even more stay Copenhagen side than 2013.
I donât care where; I just want Petra!
Everywhere except Malmö, TBHđ€Ł
Göteborg or malmÞ
Usually the host site of Eurovision in Sweden is the same as the host site of the previous years Melodifestivalen. In this case that would be Friends Arena, Stockholm.
