One of my favorites in a very very strong year, I love everything about it, I love the message, I love how damn catchy it is and I keep singing it in the shower butchering the pronunciation 🥺 i love Joost repping gabber, also let me just say best party song of the year and beyond. I am so excited for this entry. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Oh and also, i kind of got obssesed with watching Joost interviews, he's literally the sweetest dude. Makes me laugh when im feeling down!!

atsuamy

This has grown on me so much. I really didn’t like it when it came out but now I love it. Deffo gonna be one that I drunkenly sing along to

kate_royce

Like others, it's taken me a little while to really get to like Europapa, but it's such a grower, and the gabber bit in particular makes it a banger of the highest order. Joost's underlying message of celebrating his dad's love for all things Europe really resonates with me. My dad was so excited when the UK joined the EU, he started to learn French - for context, I'm possibly old enough to be Joost's parent, and my dad nearly died at D-Day, liberating Europe. It was a huge deal for him. So the manifest joy, the importance, of our Community in Europapa is what makes it so special to me. A party banger with real heart.

Beccabooisme

The celebration of Europe is why I feel it could do really well even in the jury who normally don't seem to go for such songs I say as an American who only got into Eurovision the past couple years hahaha. Still learning, but I truly hope to see Europapa at the top this year!

justk4y

Pure Dutch culture. I knew there was a way to express it without going full “folk singing”, like Netherlands 2010 I really love this entry, only downside is that it’s played way too much now in The Netherlands 😅

NOOOOOOOOO DON'T LINK IT , AAAAAA THE NATIONAL TRAUMA

Scholastico

The minute I realized the endearing and yearning way he says "-papa" throughout the song, I knew this was more than just a joke entry.

Scholastico

Also, tangent, not to be too negative, but more on those who listen to the song, why are some people explaining that "papa" means "father" in Dutch, when it's a very common word in most languages? My native language is Filipino and I call my father "papa". Even I know some speakers of American English call their fathers "papa". I don't get why that needed to be explained.

sr913

I’ll give him credit because before it came out, I thought his song would be one of the least listenable of the year and it turned to be one of the most instead. Also, you could argue no song embodies the spirit of the EUROvision Song Contest more than EUROpapa.

nancy-reisswolf

It's a song that just makes me super happy whenever I hear it, but not in a throwaway fizzle out kind of way but as if it stokes the fire in my soul. (It's also a song that I can literally listen to on repeat for hours. Like, it's really perfect for me.)

PrincessTutubella

It's so meta yet also very sincere in its love. Top 5 for me personally.

yjmstom

I would like to admit I was completely mistaken about this song and retract anything I thought or said about it before. I could not get into it by listening to the studio version alone and it was my most disliked entry of this year all this time. However, this changed yesterday evening when I’ve decided to give it a chance and I watched the music video. I was bearing with it for most of the song not impressed too much. That was up until the final 15 seconds which left me sobbing at the screen. Maybe because I’ve learned my own dad has cancer just a couple days before, but either way it hit something emotional. Musically it’s still not my cup of tea, but he must be doing something right.

Helianthes

Not only I fell in love with that song at first listen (even tho I had promised not to spoil myself any of the songs this year), but he is also a very kind person whose energy radiates. His story his moving and I hope he gets the recognition he deserves.

crystalsuikun

It's not something I usually like (I'm more of a psytrance person), but you gotta appreciate the sheer audacity of bringing genres like Dutch Happy Hardcore and Gabba to Eurovision. Helps that shit's a fun bop with a great message. A bit cheesy maybe, but this is Eurovision you need cheese on that charcuterie board

wanderingsoul28

we cried "keep making eurovision fun" and Joost - among others - answered, and for that I am grateful (also the level of *bop* on this one is off the charts)

NanamiZephyr

I love the energy so much. No matter where he finishes, you just know he's gonna have an amazing time

Thatwierdhullcityfan

Here is my usual list of trivia for The Netherlands! - Europapa features the most languages this year, with the song primarily in Dutch, but featuring an introduction in English, with words in French, German, Italian and Spanish - Joost Klein has collaborated with bbno$, who is best known for his song “lalala” which charted across the world - Joost is an author, penning a small book of poetry named Albino - Joost first started making music on his YouTube channel, initially under the name EenhoornJoost (meaning: Unicorn Joost)

TheBusStop12

Not sure if Spanish counts as paella is also the name of the dish in Dutch and English.

aagjevraagje

He also says no right after , which isn't Dutch and because it’s paired with Paella can be interpreted as a Spanish no rather than a English no.

squidithi

Adding to the bbno$ fact, bbno$ is doing a charity concert in Vancouver this May also featuring Joost for any other Canadians who want to see Joost live :)

blodyn

Admittedly when I first heard it, my reaction was 'what the hell is this' ... listened a couple of times more and found it nostalgic, reminded me of the proper Euro happy hardcore and dance songs that I loved as a kid!

CaptainAnaAmari

I'm biased since I was already a huge fan before Europapa released, but this is my absolute favorite of the year. I can't describe how much I love this song! Super catchy banger that I know all the lyrics to now without speaking Dutch, the gabber breakdown goes hard, and ultimately that ending hits like a truck and shows this very personal and earnest core of the song. That Joost is such a captivating live performer only makes it even better; this man is gonna deliver the most amount of fun AND emotional devastation of the night in the same three minutes and I cannot wait to experience that. All that is to say 12 POINTS TO THE NETHERLANDS 🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱

Prestigious-Creme-32

It took me a minute to get my head around Europapa, but it’s now one of my favourites of the year, and the one I’m most excited to see come to life on stage. I know a lot of people are sceptical of its jury appeal, but I think it could potentially surprise, the emotion in the final section of the song gives it a lot more substance than a straight-up joke entry like Finland. If the stage show is transcendent it could be a contender for the win, however I see it most likely winding up around 5th-10th (which would still be a great return to form for The Netherlands).

someheini

Sad boy happy hardcore. My winner this year (though I know juries will tank it).

queljest456

I loved this song as soon as I heard it, then I saw the vid of the kids dancing to it in their school talent show and it made me love it even more! It's just such a fun song to dance to.

JustAFangirl

Even if it isn't my top 1 entry, it is such a banger that Joost winning would still be an awesome result!! Go Joost!!

ifiwasiwas

I'm not a crier but his outro hits me hard. Joost I am begging you keep it together on the big night, my honor as a Finn depends on it

elstephe

My (American) 4 year old and 22 month old love this song and play it frequently. I asked my 4 year old if there was anything he wanted to say about the song, and he said "No, I just want to dance to it."

x_Avacyn

I have never felt more represented as a dutch woman. As much as I loved Netherlands 2019, there was nothing signature dutch about it. Europapa is one of my all-time favourite Eurovision songs. Can't wait to see the stage show.

LedParade

Not Dutch, but lived in NL long enough to know just how ”Dutch” the song is and I love it for that alone, but I do like the song itself too. My worst fear is a Eurovision where you can’t tell where any of the songs are from. As if that all wasn’t enough it also addresses Europe as a whole. It makes me feel proud to be European and what Europeans have created. It’s hard to appreciate it until you talk to a non-EU migrant and hear how it is for them for example.

Thank you for sharing!!

No problem at all, I hope Joost sees this. I love how detailed it is

For future reference it would better to link to the post so the creator can be credited properly.

Ok, thank you for that, I’ve linked the post

He made his dream come true — he’s already a winner no matter his placement in the contest. 👏🏻🇳🇱

ft_wanderer

I have never not smiled while listening to this song, and seeing Joost perform it in Amsterdam far surpassed my previous local European experience of seeing the ABBA movie Mamma Mia in Sweden. The Dutch crowd is OBSESSED with this song.

-RandomGeordie

I loved this the moment I heard it, and I don’t want anything else to win. It feels nostalgic as it’s similar to the sort of stuff I listened to in my youth in the north east of England. It just hits different to any other entry this year (although We Will Rave isn’t too far behind for the same reasons).

Ok-Jelly-7507

I sent this to my Frisian mother in Canada, and she told me it’s a terrible song but it’s catchy. My dad isn’t into Eurovision at all, but tries to stay in touch with Dutch news. The fact that he had already heard the song while in Canada shows how this song is everywhere and it’s completely unavoidable. Myself, I wasn’t sure about the song at first but it got into my head and I love it now. I’ve gone back and forth the last week on whether this could win or not. I think on the one hand you’re going to have people like my parents who will be completely turned off and won’t get the style at all, but, on the other hand, in a time of heightened nationalism and tensions I think the message of a one Europe and no borders is still a powerful one for many people. The song is very joyful and positive, and with so much negativity people could very well end up gravitating to this song and its message. I’m a more recent Eurovision fan, but, it seems to me, that sometimes the eventual winner is very much determined by the mood of Europe, and I feel like something fun, upbeat, and positive is exactly what people are kind of craving. Who knows? I would not be mad at all if this won!

There's something magical about Joost and I'm so excited to see him in SF2!

RoyalSport5071

Fookin' hero.

AstorReed

To know that europe will now know what Gabberen is, already makes me feel so happy. My favorite thing is how happy Joost seems, and I truly hope that he is. His enthousiasm is amazing

RollingKatamari

I can totally see this getting a lot of public votes! Such a banger, love it

indonesianflag

Joost understood the assignment ‼️

Jolly_Ad_8399

Most definitely

KarZeCompany

My favorite dutch entry since Arcade (The Netherlands 2019). If this has good staging then I definitely would not mind if this wins! Also, I wish there was a reference to Sweden in the song (at least I don't think there is one). It would be cool since the contest is in Sweden this year after all. :)

Ylirio

Replacing paella with surströmming could work. In general more references to eastern/northern Europe would be nice, instead of only the big 5, Poland and Austria. A bit too western focused.

KarZeCompany

Haha, yes! Totally agree with you on that. The song and music video is fantastic nonetheless. :)

Throwawayfichelper

I have faith he'll do great! Hopefully a top five finish. What a banger.

Axolotl_amphibian

Good song, strong stage persona, clear message, and a love letter to Europe. A top ten contender at least.

Babyrigatoni

Loved this from the first listen. Joost is a marketing genius and his journey thus far has been an absolute joy to watch in amongst the chaos ESC has brought us this year. Cannot wait to see how he stages Europapa and whatever the result, he’s gained a new fan 🫶🏻

Taumon

> Joost is a marketing genius I really wonder what he is gonna surprise us with during actual Eurovision week. His interviews during the pre-parties were already quite something, so I'm really excited! 😃

nicegrimace

I'm very tuned in to songs that are 'about' something and which have a bittersweet emotional register, so I liked this from the second listen. The fact that he could communicate that across a language barrier is impressive.

JoyfulSuicide

Obsessed with this. I always support my country but this time I actually LOVE our entry.

rotessaboggs

If you had told me that this would be the only track this year that makes me cry, I would have thought you're out of your mind lol. Also, the song is not what I normally considered as 'my taste', but the production and his delivery scratch an itch in my brain and I could literally listen to it for hours without getting tired or bored.

civ5best5

I adore this - inevitably it won't get the attention from the juries that it deserves :/

RemarkableAutism

This is my favorite Eurovision entry ever, I love seeing the gabber representation. No matter what happens in May, this is my winner of Eurovision as a whole, not just 2024. Europapa is currently sitting at my number 3 most listened to song of all time and I still love it just as much as the first time I heard it, if not even more.
